- Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) has been trying to avoid having a personal moment with young patient Isla (guest star Isla Rose Hall), as connections with strangers can be uncomfortable for him. But Isla's disarming honesty prompts Shaun to open up as well, and the two share a tender moment -- but then tragedy strikes. From 'The Good Doctor' season 5, episode 11, 'The Family.' Watch 'The Good Doctor' MONDAYS 10/9c on ABC. Stream on Hulu.
That little girl has a bright future if she is already pulling off this level of acting.

Shaun bonding with her was so sweet especially the way he willingly hugged her. 🥲

There’s something about Shaun bonding with a child patient that get me all the time ☺️

I would say brother and sister, but yes.

He bonds with kids so well because he is honest to a fault. Kids can typically see through most non related adults white lies. and would find his blatent honsety. Very trustworthy.
It’s depressing because adults are the exact opposite. They distrust you the more honest you are, and even get mad about it.

That's exactly why she trusted him
It takes a lot for him to bond...that was special.

I remember when Freddie was a child actor being so impressed with the way he could hold his own with Johnny Depp. Watching this I was so impressed with how that young lady was able to hold her own with him.
I agree
I feel like most of the child actors were pretty good
Shaun bonding with her so, sweet and especially when he was willing to hug the little girl, near the end of the episode
Seeing Shaun and Isla bond is so touching that I almost cry when they talk 🥲
It made me cry on the inside.
I love that he doesn’t lie. One of my kids I believe has Asperger’s. I noticed when my granddaughter was diagnosed with autism. He doesn’t lie either.
Yeah. I thought that adults lie. Even my parents lie to me.😢
And I send love and care to your grandchild❤
This message in this scene is so good and so profound!!! It is an " eye" opener when you realize.... Sometimes both people are at fault.....
Sometimes the victim gets unlucky doing something stupid and they didn't get a second chance to learn that lesson. It's not victim blaming to acknowledge when that happens, it's collective learning.
Also, that good things happen as well.
@jamescheddar4896 your blaming the victim for defending?
@@tylerdavis1862do you think they're talking about rape? I'm pretty sure no one meant that

This scene brought a lot of tears for me. Thank You. I try to be honest like him sometimes and often times people do not really appreciate it.
This series is one of the finest series ever to be made. The acting and directing is superb. This clip is an excellent illustration of these points
"I've had a lot of good things happen, too."
I bet the real actress wanted to hug Freddie. He told her that his parents didn't like him. If only we got more of that. Many other autistics had this
My mom pretends that certain aspects of my childhood never happened, because it would "paint her in a really bad light." She doesn't like to admit that she didn't like me when I was growing up. My sister, who was even worse to me than anybody, realized her son was "taking after me," and she got support to understand and help her son. Our relationships is even more awkward now, because unlike my mom, she feels genuine regret.
@@dihydrogenmonoxide7056I'm glad your sister at least learnt from her mistakes

1:50 this is why Shaun would actually make a really good father. Kids need to hear the truth
He could’ve told her it wasn’t her fault and gave a bs reason but he told her the truth.
He does in later seasons. He & Lea have a baby boy that they name Steve
They also need to be listened to.

What a emotional touching scene! Impressive acting by both!
Wow. Powerfully written scene
Great acting career awaits her
I was so sure that Isla's parents are gonna die so Shaun & Lea could adopt her.
Same here man same here. It would have made an interesting development in the show

what a good doctor
In this video Shaun bonds with a young patient and I remember years ago when I was talking to my sister who is a RN,and she said to me that people who are in the medical field do bond with their patients and the sad part is when they die,she my sister had a nervous break down and it was hard to recover from such a tragedy but as the doctor explained to my sister is that you did the best you could do for the patient as no one wants to die but that's part of life,as my father told me and even though he is gone over 30 years ago there is not a day that I don't think about him and I believe that he,my mother, my grandparents don't look over me as ANGELS,to protect me from evil,as I do talk to God, when I need him and he always hears me and helps me as I am a CATHOLIC.
Nurses and pastors have a very different attitude towards death than most people
That actress is absolutely beautiful
You are correct in your assessment but the character of Shaun at this point is more childlike and than adult and I think the writers believed a child would take what he said differently because he was recalling his feelings as a child as a sort of support. Now maybe the addition of mentioning his parents was a bit much. I would think that the writers tried this script out with numerous kids her age before they signed off on it. It usually goes through up to 10 revisions. Your point is very valid. I was a kid during the 1950's. I remember having whooping cough at age 10 and the nurse told my mother that I would probably die. I had almost died once so death did not scare me but my poor Mother was a wreck.. she was like Shaun. Some people just have no idea as to how yo deliver bad news gently.
im not crying your crying
I cant stop laughing with the drawing of the dog looks like a horse 😂😂😂
wow the little actress was pretty good.
If I need to have surgery I’d trust him to do it and be there before to assure me everything will be okay .
I would trust him too. I’m autistic and can understand from his movements and how he feels to know that he knows what he’s doing

If you liked this series, I highly recommend you to watch the South Korean version.
I AM A SURGEON!
I like this series all taking good care All the patient
"Commenting publicly", intriguing yet foreboding, I digress. The lead character Dr. Shaun Murphy...has the cool and emotional naivete of Vinny Barbarino , a brain two levels more captivating then Sheldon, both traits filtered through the innocent eyes of Mark Mcain, presented with the clinical precision of Dr. Spock. Does not get any better then that.!
that was beautiful.
Hell nah, the caption is wild🗿💀
Son gonna grow up, yes this is my mom and my dr Shaun Murphy
I like this program
isla rose is my friend what am i watching😭
Still the Dad's fault he never should have taken his eyes off the road.
It's sad the way that he speaks😭😭😭😭
In this part of the video Shaun tells the patient that he tried to talk his brother not to do what he wanted to and as a result his brother died and his parents blamed Shaun but I remember years ago when I got tired,my eyes would cross, and my father asked me if I wanted eye surgery and I said no,and he asked me why and I told him that I don't want to be blind, and I don't regret that answer but at 69 my eyes are failing me so I just had eye surgery on my right eye, then my left eye,and I asked the eye doctor what was my vision before the surgery and he said 20/200,and I said what is it now and he said 20/40,which didn't surprise me because he is the doctor not me as I am a Chef by trade.
I'm autistic and I want to clear up the misconception that autistic people are not empathetic. They are probably more so that neurotypical in some cases. I certainly feel sad when others are in pain and even feel it sometimes.
Little girl: I'm sorry about your brother. And your parents. And your baby...
Me: Baby? What baby?
Also me: I must watch for the babyyy!
It's so weird seeing a former child actor performing next to a current child actor idk why. Like I'm watching Charlie from the chocolate factory relating to her like "Ah yes, I too was a child once..."
Shaun reminds me of baymax
Fun fact: The television distributor that owns the network rights for The Good Doctor is the same company that made Big Hero 6.

I... Actually... It may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't like when an adult does this... At the end of his talking, she's sorry for him, and I don't think she should be sorry for someone else at that moment. I don't know. 2:46
I understand you, but I don't think that was his intent to get attention from her. I think he simply was trying to deliver a message that it all wasn't (the entire accident) wasn't her fault.
And his story was just something apart from herself and her story to have to compare to. Just my opinion

Homeless people and incels are angry at the world. They could attack our fellow citizens today. We need to help them be happier with the Universal Basic Income. So they don’t attack us.

These medicin tv shows are literally so unrealistic. In real medicine it takes a lot of time to do a proper patient history and not just ask them questions in like 30 seconds like these shows (I'm not talking about this specific video but medicine shows in general)
Shows are made to be entertaining not realistic bud

YES IT WAS YOUR FAULT IF HE DIES YOU DID IT TO HIM.....
How
Pure example of why you whoop your kids.
I'm going to be the one who points out that, regardless of how sweet that scene looked, he was essentially trauma-dumping on a child.
While they did bond over shared feelings of blame, the addition of his parents not loving him could very well scare her right back to square one.
Not to mention that, in my experience, trauma-dumping puts the listener in an awkward, 'on-the-spot' position. It was more his trauma by the end, than it was about hers.
Shaun didn't see it that way and he was trying to comfort her in the way he best knew how. And it worked, she wanted to go and see her dad after they spoke.
As a little kid in a coma from polio I woke up 10 days later paralyzed from my eyes down. My GP was like Dr House.... really. He never told me I would ever walk or talk or ever do anything again . I was 6 but there were no lies. He said everyone would help but rehab would be long and hard but it was up to me. After 6 months i could walk a bit. Everything else even swallowing took much longer but after 2 years I was much better but never the same. Kids are better knowing the truth no matter how brutal.
@bonniestar4707
Yes, I know that. However, in my experience, that doesn't work in real life.
Do you have an example of this sort of thing working? (I'm not trying to be mean, I'm genuinely curious)
@@heatherloffelmann3547
I do not believe that's the same case. In your case, the doctor was telling you cold, hard facts. In this, the conversation seemed more about him. Due to that, my fear was that he would psych her out. For you, you were being told it was a hard road ahead, just straight-up.
Yes, it would be important for the girl in the clip to know that things may not go well, but that doesn't mean telling your own trauma story, potentially causing fear that she will meet the same fate.
@@petalpielily6740 I don't know, because I don't have experience in that sector with kids. But I'm sure that kid would have been upset if Shaun lied and said that everything would be fine, when there was a chance that things would not be fine. I got upset when I got lied to over things as a kid (like my Dad promising to take me to a play area and then not doing so) , so maybe Shaun's approach would have worked better than making false promises.
That little girl was some of the worst acting I have ever seen from younger cast members in any show.
Can you do any better? If you can’t, you have absolutely no right to say she’s a bad actress. She is on this show because she’s good at acting. Imagine having nothing better to do then hate on a child. Grow up.
I really don't think young children should be judged on their acting, they literally have no experience with it.
Should I sue you? I think I damaged my eyeballs from rolling them too hard at this comment.
I have a feeling this little girl is going to be around for a while
This is one of the best episodes of the show in a while.
