War game suggests Chinese invasion of Taiwan would fail at huge cost to US, China, Taiwan militaries

- A Chinese invasion of Taiwan in 2026 would result in thousands of casualties among Chinese, United States, Taiwanese and Japanese forces, and it would be unlikely to result in a victory for Beijing, according to a prominent independent Washington think tank, which conducted war game simulations of a possible conflict that is preoccupying military and political leaders in Asia and Washington. #CNN #News

This is why China must trend cautiously. They never fought super power vs super power like USA. Usa has two times already fought modern super powers. In wwII usa fought 2 super powers at once as well. China keeps losing border wars with India, which is the closest it gets to fighting a "land" super power. So China has only loss to learn from, a lot to learn, but no winning tactic yet as proven by modern chinese military capabilities and indeed their operational effectiveness on the current active chinese combat zones. You are right, the war games really don't account for human judgement and error, especially on Chinese end, for what I explained before, a supreme lack of winning strategy. If the war game suggests a usa win, then the reality is a nation ending catastrophe for China. Even if you think you can win, is it worth gambling your nation ? We will find out.

A part of me hopes that in the case of an invasion, China’s military capability is proved to be overestimated. At the very least, they can’t just drive over the border in a huge tank column like the Russians tried in Ukraine, since the whole thing’s on an island.
Russia is dealing with a country being paid, armed and supplied by the richest countries in the world as a proxy and they have occupied 20%of said countries territory and is degraded the hell out of their Nazi battalions.
We will never know if it's overestimated unless something happens. China has a big military that's very capable. They have a lot of technology and a lot of people. Difference between Ukraine and Taiwan is that Taiwan is an island while Ukraine is border on friendly or neutral nations so foreign resupply has easier access but unlike Taiwan foreign resupply are either delivered by ship or air and is easier to engage with commerce raider like WW2 but to more effectiveness with slbm, guided torpedoes, and satellite. So if foreign nation like JP, AUS, US want to enter unnotice, that’s near impossible due to satellite surveillance and active radar and awacs. Unlike WW2 direct sight engagement
Sure an armed escort fleet would help but like how the Ukrainian engage is skip the tanks and hit the supply transport, same scenario but very big and limited maneuvering target on 2d combat area with near to no covers
That benefits china, the far stronger power at sea and in air. Any direct engagement favors china much more. It's the same as thinking taiwan can fight USA head on, since that's what china is ready for. Only china can do it. Taiwan is not that strong.

They got nearly 100 people to think, all the scenario. You by your self. Cant out think 50. That spend decade, study wars for a living. Ready books and movies. Wont cover, that secret information, they have. I get, what you mean. But, trust me. They got human and machine for it. Me and you. Cant out smart them.
Everyone needs to chill out and worry about themselves. If we all lived by the Golden Rule the world would be a much better place
Yeah unfortunately the world doesn’t work that way. I wish it did. That hippie nonsense didn’t work during Vietnam and especially won’t work now. Sorry, but it’s the truth.
What are you, a kindergartner?
Open your eyes, the world will never live by such rules
Keep in mind, this is the same company that said, "Ukraine would be completely over run by Russia in less then 5 days".
How would that damage US standing?
I think the war game may need to include the part that Russia, Iran and Nth Korea would play. No not directly at China/Taiwan borders, but elsewhere, which would require USA to defend in more than one place.
Russia has enough fires to put out and their relationship has been strained due to political issues and tech theft, China unapologetically stole alot Russian military equipment designs including the jet engine Russia was supposed trade them with but they copied for their fighter plane. Basically they are too busy and have nothing to gain because China shafted them already.
Iran really does not want a Cassius belli on them, especially by the US. At best they will sell drones, but they might not because they probably know that China will steal their designs and make and or sell them cheaper.
N. Korea might help China, because their next door and thus can be supported more easily, but I just think that they just want to rattle sabers and maintain buffer state status because it works both ways. The only reason North Korea is not invaded by the South and the US is the same reason China is not invading it.
This is where NATO plays its part.
@@michaeleasterwood6558 and that's where everyone loses in the end.
Because this will definitely escalate completely out of control.
This is also assuming china invades Taiwan now.
China knows it is not ready yet.
China knows it is likely to suffer economically, and militarily if it invaded Taiwan in its current state.
Hence why they set the date for at least 2027.
According to the pentagon, china is aiming for 2027 to invade Taiwan.
This is because they wanna prepare militarily and economically for any potential outcomes.
They will expand and build more foreign military bases before 2027, (nobody knows how many) they will also rapidly modernize their military capabilities for a successful invasion.
By then, china would have a nuclear powered aircraft carrier.
China would have a Stealth bomber (which is able to reach the United States territory) and it's military would have far more reach, and way more capabilities than it currently does now.
This will determine the outcome.
I wish they would have added these in the equation and done the war games.
It certainly would have had a significant difference.
But regardless, a real war will always be different.
@@michaeleasterwood6558 not to mention, the sink road near South East Asia, etc , which some of them are meant to bypass blockages in case china invades Taiwan and prevent isolation.

Seems like the US needs to spend on military in this particular juncture. There’s too much instability and deterrence with some preparation is required.
But it seems that’s about to get harder in the house after McCarty gave up power to the rebels in the right.
Really?
Yea, just the right touch the military industrials need.
why does the US need to pay for the defense of the world? why do US soldiers have to die for israel?
Strange game. The only winning move is not to play
Depends on how much excess young men a country has. China has a lot. OTOH, they might just find out why the US hasn't shipped any of its cluster munitions to Ukraine, yet. It may have plans to use them on the beaches of Taiwan, already. ;-)
Like what happened in vietnam war?
What happened? Vietnam began as a third world country and is still a third world country. The US began as the leading superpower and is still the leading superpower. :-)

A large portion of China's navy is smaller ships incapable of sustained combat. Numbers are very deceiving
Yeah, I noticed that was misleading as well.
There can be NO win without sacrifice
20 combat ships only have 3000 casualty??? An aircraft carrier have at least 5000 people to kept it operational at sea, losing 2 carrier means at least 10k soldiers. These guys does not know math.
3000 troops KIA refer to troops killed on ground. Also, the max. capacity of a carrier is 6000, but there is typically less than that actually on service
Taking into account China’s military having absolutely no experience I’d say they have zero chance of taking Taiwan.
@Maxxxie Lorenzo apples to oranges
You know nothing about china and Taiwan
Thank you Bush for invading Iraq to give us experience. Am I right?
Three Communiqués-
The United States formally acknowledged that "all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China".
Did you not even watch the video? Chances were not 0. The U.S. has committed many resources to Ukraine. Facing a country with a larger navy and an air force almost as large would be an issue. I'll take the opinion of military analysts over Dunning-Kreuger keyboard warriors.
All of these numbers are way underestimated.
That’s also what it said when US decided to fight with Chinese Army in Korean War.
That was funny how China lost 60k soldiers frozen to death from cold because they have no experience with what's required
@@ms3862 How come North Korea is still there then if China lost?
China helped North Korea invade South Korea. China suffered 400,000 dead to US only 37,000 dead. China lost as South Korea still exists, and the border was even moved further north. North Korea lost territory in the Korean war, so it was a total defeat for China and North Korea.
You're delusional...plus the geography was different. North Korea borders China so it was easy to get their troops to the battlefield. China wants to do an amphibious assault on Taiwan that's like a 100 miles away. China's navy would be decimated by US air force crossing the ocean.
@@SelfProclaimedEmperor not true. China entered the war after US army reached the boarder of China and North Korea. Considering the huge military gap between China and US, it was not a bad result.

China has spent 70 years of education telling its people that the loss of Taiwan is a shame for all Chinese, and it is clear that neither one failure nor one success will stop the reunification of China.
What's more, I don't think the US has the courage to lose its two aircraft carrier fleets.
You can have a try.
Because it is a loss for China? The west will put hypersonic nuclear missiles if they had the chance.
China hasn't had an opponent who can shoot back in over 43 years. They only shoot unarmed college students and fish.
Reunification? You can't reunify what was never unified
@@lattrelbia2527 the unarmed students started to burn and decapitate Chinese servicemen. They got what they asked for. If you killed an American servicemen in DC you’ll get a volley of bullets in return.
Why does this look like they are all getting ready? like this was planed all along
Something is afoot in China - something that the Chinese themselves don’t seem to know - or can control. In such dangerously ambivalent situations it’s better to error on the side of readiness - and we’re not ready. Whatever is brewing in China will likely start in Taiwan, so it’s prudent that we help them prepare. How and to what extent, we don’t fully know. But we’d better do more than just think about it - which might be all Gen. Mike Minihan is saying.
2:46 - That doesn't always seem to be true.
I mean clearly recently (like the Ukraine - Russia war) we've seen if a nation state sees a risk to its survival and it weighs those two options. That being war vs no war, it will sometimes risk going to war.
Deterrence will only get you so far, until it runs into that calculus -> Either our nation disintegrates due to lack of action or also if we do take action. Sometimes they take the latter if the risk seems to have a greater chance at survival.
That is why that saying "If you want peace, prepare for war" is so fickle, because if you also want war, you prepare for war. The Cuban missile crisis was the greatest example of doing compromises to achieve and favorable outcome.
trying to bail out the financial problem with military spending.
Thank you Walmart and Corporate America for helping the enemies!
One thing I didn’t hear mentioned was the involvement of other nations. Both Japan and Australia have capable militaries and they both would also come to the aid of Taiwan.
Yes, but that will drag Japan into total war with China, which will very quickly drag South Korea as well, reigniting the Korean War. The toll will be catasthropic on Seoul, as the PLA army will fight a land war with South Korea.
If a Taiwanese war breaks out, most likely they will prevent dragging Japan and Korea, to prevent WW3.
Australia and NZ would be wiped out without China breaking a sweat. No one has gone to War with China for clear and obvious reasons.
Japan would not stand down if Taiwan is attacked. They'd already said as much. So the whole Pacific will be at war. Thanks CCP!
Just like NATO, west needs all it's allies to fight 1 country.
@@itsthenewlifeofsomeone1 thats the point of having allies and defense alliances. You wanker
A war game is designed to take numbers and balance them with strategy. The issue here is that it puts the opposing forces on a level playing field which is far from real life war.
If there is one thing I love about the US, it’s when it comes to military might, despite our strong experiences, we DO NOT underestimate our enemies…
Same cannot be said for China as they really think they can win a war against the US. If you ever watch their 3D war renderings with the US, you’ll see that they’re alway easily overwhelm American ships and fighters jets who seem to be barely fighting back.
That’s why they’re so brazen.
America on the other end has fought enough wars to know that you don’t talk you’re way into victory
propaganda vs experience.
Is that why we've lost EVERY War and Military Situation (all to inferiorly numbered and equipped armies) since WW2? Because we underestimate our enemies and Military Intelligence? If you've taken college level psychology courses you can see our Military is the posterchild on the dangers of groupthink. Considering how bad recruiting levels are and the last disaster in Afghanistan, this one is not going to end well.
@@lzc561 I am not going to insult your intelligence the same way you seem to do mine…. Ironically, it’s something I learned from psychology classes in college.
You’re right, the US was unable to get any significant victory in its wars abroad. We fought a few wars after after WWII in Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Add some small ones in Somalia, Yemen, and Libya. Except for the Gulf War in 1991, America most lost those other wars.
But your missing my point, those losts are why we don’t underestimate our enemies.
These battles all served to teach the our military important lessons that are used to great effect in later battles.
Take Russia for example, it experienced a string of successive victories in Chechnya, Georgia and Crimea.
What does it do? It led them to believe they could take over Ukraine in a matter of days and thus went there I’ll prepared.
Those Ukrainians fighters that relieved Russia of its delusion?? They’ve been trained by Americans military personnel who apply knowledges from previous wars to teach them how to defend their country…
@@harleydan6211 That doesn't make any sense, did you see the recent humiliation in Afghanistan? What lessons were learned after blowing over 2 Trillion Dollars, giving the Taliban over 10 Billion in US weapons and equipment then surrendering and running away again? Gulf War doesn't even count as that was six countries against one and lasted a month. And our backwards Military has not learned a damn thing. You don't even need to serve, look at the comments from serving members. Most of them think completely backwards and STILL think a better weapon will win a battle or war when we literally just got humiliated again in Afghanistan to another numerically, technologically inferior army. If General MacArthur and probably the most intelligent Military the US ever had plus the UN and South Korea couldn't beat Mao and the Red Army this will be another major catastrophe as we'll be led by Milley and the lowest IQ Military on record in US History.
@@lzc561 Were all those losses military defeats, or political fuckups?
“Deterance”
How are we this unprepared or is this just another illusion?!
It's a war game it's just a possibility of what could happen. They don't use top secret weapons in war games and you know everybody gots them so more than likely the outcome will be drastically different
I would say the war is not taking into account F-35 hitting Chinese bases on the Mainland to stop the Invasion. The War games seems kind light as to amount damage the US will inflict on China.
Ya that's probably the only thing that one can be sure of the fact that the outcome will be different. Not saying that China would win but i mean that the losses would probably be very different and imo much larger.
We can probably assume that nobody possesses a secret strategic trump card- simply because everyone is still treating the war like a grim calculus and working with expectations of experiencing considerable consequences if it begins.
If the US had a secret Golden Gun project capable of obliterating any strategic opposition, it would likely actively goad china into invading to display said capability and gain the long-term geopolitical benefits of once again appearing as the wielder of the Biggest Stick on the world stage.
If China had one and was confident in using it, the current wariness about potential US retaliation would cease to be a pressing concern. The war would likely have already begun, and Taiwan would likely already be under their control.
@@Badabiiiing Also, we have friends in very high places in Russia and China that are feeding us information. There many Russians and Chinese do not believe in invasion of other countries.

Fun fact: largest airforce in the world is the US airforce. Send largest airforce in the world is the US Navy. Not a joke just the facts.
These simulations are cool but it just doesn't take enough into account.. Allies on both sides would most likely get involved (which the US have way more allies). China isn't exactly battle tested and most of their servicemen are conscripts and many are from the one child policy.. I don't think that would sit well with most citizens not prepared to lose their family tree to a war. China may have more ships in their navy. But they really stand the "biggest" or "best." And the biggest thing this don't take into account is that China is thee biggest importers of energy and food... Looking at there importers. They are very vulnerable!
