Omg. Where has this channel been all my life? I just discovered you this morning and your reviews are the best I've seen yet! Subscribed! :D
Thanks for joining the channel :) we have lots more great content for your viewing pleasure!
xBriskyx I know, right? It's a travesty this channel isn't larger than it is.
Shows you how far we have come these days when the only real complaint is that it doesn't have an LED.
Casual Alien Being picky...
Casual Alien I've sealed my case up so Apple-infected idiots can't look at it. It is about performance - not appearance. Who wants to look at cheap chinese plastic and pot metal anyway?? It is a fucking GPU!!
***** yup the windforce coolers look great but cant beat a waterblock /:
Great review Dimitri. I actually purchased the Hybrid kit as a standalone for installation on my reference full-size 970 about a month ago. Great little unit!
Just a headsup on a small mistake that I'm sure you know but might have let slip, your case is the M1, not M3 :P probably a V3 M1. Agree though, fits wonderfully in an M1 (mines a V2).
Keep up the great work!
What is the hardware configuration you are using with this setup? I like the cube case you are using.
hey, picked this up couple weeks ago, loving it. I did put an extra fan on it for a push/pull. going to building another pc (mini itx with Fractal S) to get ready for Virtual reality) due to Occulous Rifts minimum specs that were just revealed recently
What memory was that ? loving the gold lights;.
Would this fit in a full tower case? More specifically either the noctis 450 or the phantom 530?
hey dimitri, can you confirm if this will fit inside the ncase if i will be using an AIO for CPU also say H80i? that would be awesome for ncase. thanks
How long are the tubes? I was wondering if they are long enough to reach the front on a Define S.
@ 4:22 Is this a BIOS modded card? I thought it is only possible to reach a power target of 110% (max TDP = 275 Watts)
.. Will it fit in the Silverstone RVZ01? Many cards dont, I had to modify my asus GTX970 Strix OC to fit :P
Dimitri, please do a video, installing this cooler in a titan X. and of course, do some benchmarks showing the inprovement.
What is the white case again? It looks like the NCASE M1 but he said "M3-N case" or something...
What about pump noise? Is it noticeable? I just bought a h100i GTX and under load the pump is certainly noticeable.
whats provides better cooling with radiators, push or pull
How is it using 2 6pin connectors when my evga gtx970 ssc is using an 8pin and a 6pin
Are these style of GPUs necessary? I have 2 windforce 980 that are over clocked as far as I can get them. And it's not the thermal limit that's my ceiling. They to out in the midst 80s .
can you run this on sli with both radiators in the front of an enthoo luxe?
the question i have is would i be able to sli it in my corsair 900D Case?
Would this card work in a Silverstone RVZ01
Can you change the fan on the radiator?
Will it void the warranty if I were to over clock this higher?
I have always enjoyed water cooling GPUs. It really helps them perform well. Thank you for sharing your experience with this card.
where to buy the kit for 980ti reference in europe?
I have had 2 SG05's with hybrid cooled EVGA 560ti's running trouble free for 3.5 years now. One of them has now moved to a 970 ACX running stock and its just as quiet as the 560ti was under water but somewhat hotter. Interestingly, the CPU now runs cooler due to no rad blowing hot air into the case.
I want this card so bad, but I can't justify getting it. My only wish is that they released a form of the cooler that is compatible with the GTX 970 (especially ones they made like the one I have).
QuestionmarkX3 Its probably not economical to try and fit this cooler on a gtx970, they are typically not cards that are thermally limited anyway so its unlikely you'd gain much performance (FPS or acoustic) over just using the ACX cooler and having a 120mm fan exhausting the hot air from the case. On the other hand if you add the the cost of this AIO cooler to you've probably already paid for the gtx970 and stock cooling solution your probably getting close to some of the less brand refernce gtx980's in price.
But if none of that deters you, then you can get a simlar setup for NZXT in the form of the kraken G10 adatper bracket, which allows you to mount any Asetch OEM AIO unit (which is about half the AIO's on the market, including the Corsair H90, NZXT Kraken X31 & X61 and so on). One caveat of mounting thus adapter on the gtx970 compared to the gtx7xx series that was around when it launched is that the VRMs are on the opposite side of the card, so you'll need to source your own VRM heatsinks (like a couple of dollars of ebay) and mount them. Alternately you could always buy a open loop water-block and mount the pump
es somewhere else in your case (I've even seen the Antec Kuhler AIO opened for this purpose, as its a rad\pump combo), which will offer even better temperatures again, but I return to the point of you possibly being better off to just sell your gtx970 to upgrade to the gtx980 or SLI instead, as it'll offer much higher performance gains per dollar.
QuestionmarkX3 Honestly for an EVGA product that looks so good and works so well, $649.99 USD is worth it.
Dolan dolan plz
Well they do make water blocks for he gtx 970 but it is for custom water loops
+QuestionmarkX3 considering a lot of VIrtual Reality stuff is gonna come out next year.. i've decided to allow myself this card :
Which case is the small white one?
anyone know more about this M3N case? I cant find a website on it.
Wanting to buy it since it got shown off at CES early this year and still not available here in Germany...
Looks great. if there's ever a sizable price drop i'm most likely getting it.
Camoon I wanted to see the actual block inside the shroud :(
@ 4:22 Golden Sample? I have never seen a 980 Ti above 1600 MHz.
If I had the money to buy a 980, I would surely buy this one. Although I'm waiting for the R9 300 series and Nvidia's reaction to them.
ast5515 Yeah the 300 series are just rehashes of existing cards, it is getting sad for AMD.
The_HBK_23 only up to the 380/380x the 390/390x are all new.
ast5515 phahahah will be their reaction
Please don't get hype cuz every time a new series of cards come out ppl are like "dood the new Gpus guna blow nvidia/amd cards out da water" *the cards come out* well these new cards use less power so like it's better and I gain about 2-5 fps more
Only the 370X and below. The 380 and above feature the new Fiji XT chip with HBM memory that is five times faster than the 980's.
I wonder if this would fit into a Corsair 250D?
Quick question:
Radeon r7 250x
or
gt 740 sc
and why
can u attach a different radiator?
I bought a GTX 980 last year. It's the reference model from PNY and after watching this review, I will be purchasing the Hybrid kit for the 980. Hopefully they come in stock soon as Amazon has a 1-2 month shipping period and EVGA's direct store doesn't even see it yet since they are sold out.
This in sli or hydro copper sli?
Damn.. I want one. I hope that they will keep creating more "Hybrid" cards.
Im stuck on the hardest decision this GPU or the PNY GeForce GTX 980
I'm definitely interested in one of these, but the price premium over here in the UK is so large that it's just not worth it.
Now I haven't been interested in watercooling long enough, nor have enough knowledge of the layout of videocards to understand this, so I'll ask here: why have the tubes come out from the 'top' of the card? Why not in 'front', facing the front of most cases and make it easy to mount the radiator in front or bottom? It would make the case look cleaner and less tubing would be required. I'm quite sure there is a technical reason for this, just wondering what it is. Cheers in advance
(and yes, I know that in the case of this hybrid, this would be impossible)
***** ha, now that you mention it, I do remember that. Point taken
Shangori Because SLI.
Can anyone answer me this... how come a simple 120/140mm radiator is enough to cool monster GPUs like R9 295X2 with 400W+ of power consumption, yet an overclocked CPU at ~200W or higher of power usually needs a 240/280mm rad?
In your opinion, this or EVGA GTX 980 Classified?
Still using it, so good, can still play LOL, CS Go, even medium setting on Naraka!
Same
Will there be 980 Ti version?
I think that the Hybrid looks WAY better than the reference. It's so slick and cool. I love it!
Great video guys, really considering getting this for my H440 upgrade soon. Either this or something 300 series from AMD in the upcoming months if AMD can deliver that is.
Yeah was thinking of going high end, i'm only running a 970 strix now so hopefully i can retire it into my HTPC rig and get something like a 390x because the TITAN X is way out of my budget.
GHOSTY BAUX A 970 is a sick card. For an HTPC its amazing, I'm interested in what you are thinking of in terms of specs
believe a Hybrid is the way to go in Future Video Card more so since you open the Idea to install in a Small Case which make easier to Travel and Enjoy your Multi Player Games with a Few Friends - Good Job on your review - Like the Ideas you gave - Derf
Where can I buy this card if I'm in Europe? Does NCIXUS ship to EU?
other thing:
Do you think this spec will be compatible with this card?
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
CPU: AMD FX 6350 3,9 GHZ
RAM: 8 GB 1600 MHZ Kingston (will upgrade to 16 GB 1866 mhz later)
Power supply: FSP 600W (or 650W im not 100% sure)
thanks for the help!
Somewhere near the first guys... Great review as always.
would love one of these for the titan x
What about VRM temps?
Guys I'm confused. Suggest me one of these
Evga gtx980ti hybrid
OR
Asus gtx980ti Strix
Which one is more powerful and will perform better if one is living in a relatively hotter area.
Wow, I would buy it if I was in the market for a card. Maybe next year when my 670 OC will start being underpowered. Very attractive card, and even price.
Yea I would have gotten 2 of these, but Evga released it too late in the 980 lifecycle. Hopefully the 980ti has a watercooled version around launch and they got a customer.
I wish the Titan X came with a similar cooling solution.
Curious Tinkering People have gotten the 980 hybrid kit to fit on a titan X and it works. forums.evga.com/Titan-X-and-980-hybrid-cooler-official-thread-m2327117-p7.aspx
GreasyBacon288 wow that is interesting. I didn't realize they sell the kit as well. thanks.
+Curious Tinkering will it also fit in 980 ti?
+Chris Ryan Intos yes
been waiting for the release of the corsair water cooling bracket forever.. got over waiting so its prob out now.
But this is much cheaper than buying the bracket radiator and card all separate.
I hope they can make the card to be easier putting our OWN choice of custom GPU fan and water cooling.
Why do people insist LED lights be added to any piece of hardware?
Need this to happen with the 980ti
OH MAH GAW DIS IS AWESOME
Just pulled the trigger on a Ti Hybrid over at Newegg. Be eatn ramen for awhile.
What is the difference between the two GPU's at 01:11, and why do they look so different from most other 980's? I think the ones at 01:11 looks extremely neat and powerful, probably because they don't have all the fans as the others. All help is appreciated! :)
Alpha Chinoz The GPU on the left is EVGA GTX 980 Hybrid that is a hybrid air/liquid cooled and the one on the right is a reference model (the most basic GTX 980 model there is).
My gtx980 performs exactly like this water cooled 980 when over clocked which is what I expected really because when I push my 980 too hard it crashes long before it even gets too hot so it's not a thermal issue that's holding my card back and more to do with the architecture. Of course my 980 is a lot louder than this one when I over clock it to it's limits but that doesn't effect me as I have a nice 5.1 surround sound headset so am good to go.
that memory offset could definitely come up a good bit ;-)
Can this card be able to compare with gtx 980 kingpin?
I would choose this over the Kingpin any day
Very cool damb good job evga
This made me realize how strong the 980 Hybrid is...no idea it was that cool n quiet
I want a EVGA 980 Ti Hybrid!!!
Ive been using kraken based AiO cooling on graphics cards for years now (since their release) and the performance on nvidia cards is amazing. AMD cards suffer due to the lack of efficiency for memory nands and the vrm mosfets, where a nvidia card only requires air flow across these components to stay under 65C; AMD cards require heatsinks to even try to keep them cool.
The AiO solution gives negligible performance decrease over custom water cooling but eliminates the two most painful aspect of water cooling- water chemistry maintenance and servicing the entire loop after a casualty (which affects the whole system).
Still would buy this over a reference 980 Ti(gaming at an Asus ROG GSync 1440p monitor)
1st :D Nice card, bought 2 for my girlfriends new x99 rig.
daaaaaaaammmm.. we need more hybrid..
does this work on dell optiplex 990 sff?
+TheModdingMiner // TeamGamingModders no, too big. Even if it did fit, the PC does not have PCIE slots, so you couldn't connect it.
Christopher Prats k thx for the reply :)
i use the NZXT Kraken with a Corsair H90 on my 780gtx and it works awesome, same kinda setup as this
Sleepy .Time Yeah, I got the same setup on a 970. If I had the option of getting something like this though for like 100 dollars more, I definitely would of done it. The convenience would have been worth it. Setting it up was a massive pain and a massive worry that I would screw it up. In the end, my card was sagging so hard I had to do a little "modding" with some zip ties lol. I haven't even tested the temps yet and I've been running it for about half a year. My computer hasn't exploded though, so I guess it's working.
TopRameen
yeah removing the reference cooler is no fun, my card is a evga with their ACX cooler and it was pretty simple to remove
i do notice my card is sagging a bit on the back outside corner but not enough to worry about
Well actually, I also had the EVGA with ACX cooler. Removing it was easy for sure, setting up the cooler is what I found most difficult. It was my first build, and that card was the most expensive thing I had bought, so I was nervous as hell. It's not like I could have just afforded another if I had screwed up this one.
Yeah, you must of done a better job than me cause the sag I had was awful. The zip ties have actually made it so now my card has a little anti-sag haha - it bends upwards a little bit. I decided to just leave it.
They should make more of these Hybrid GPUs, needs to be reliable though !
Is it better than asus gold 980 20th aniversary?
Hell yes.
Really hope EVGA could do the same thing on Titan X.
The cooler shroud is compatible with Titan X ;)
HardwareCanucks That's a great news! Any chance that I can replace the included 120mm rad to a 140mm one?
Thank you for the company reference how about you real life it.
They should have done this with the Titan X.
Why would I want another light to make more heat inside a small form factor case? I'm glad it doesn't have one!
I'll probably be buying a 980 Ti Hybrid this summer.
Lol leds give off 0 heat not like its a old 70 watg bulb💡
beautiful card
Nice
They need to do a Hybrid Titan X
Trusting anything made by EVGA? Not very likely.
EVGA Mobos are expensive and full of problems, glitches and very often terminal ailments. EVGA GPUs same quality control and build quality as their mobos, generally a bit less problematic but often suffer from very poor build quality and numerous RMA worthy problem. I have read the specs on their recently released Power Supplies which, to be honest, seem very good.
The only product which interested me was the one sponsoring your review... Those cables are awesome at a reasonable price. Personally, I always have all colors in stock.
This channel has grown into something very special... You, my friend, have done a wonderful job!
As a fellow Canuck whose Germanic family hails from Estonia, I salute you with a shot of Saaga 1763 (shame teleportation isn't a reality yet)... На здоровье!
Cheers.
NorthWolfe I don't touch anything evga anymore. Complete trash now.
NorthWolfe I can speak to their power supplies performing very well and being very reliable. In fact, I put EVGA before any other brand when considering a new PSU. That said, I haven't tried any of their mobos and I've only ever had one video card by them (it works great), so I don't have a qualified opinion on the rest of their products.
Skeletor Jopko The 1500w supernova killed 3 of my titans, when I called them they said "That sucks, better luck next time"
Skeletor Jopko I know for a fact it is not just an EVGA problem, but a industry philosophy problem (with very few exceptions). Somehow, they convinced some people (what I call RUclips third-party vendors disguised as reviewers) that it is acceptable for a £1000 part to be subjected to the infamous "silicon lottery"... Well it isn't acceptable.
Some manufactures have started using this as an excuse for very poor quality control, resulting in the much more infamous "we can't directly control the manufacturing process, it's out of our hands." BS!!!
EVGA has recently just become one of the major offenders, but not the only one (Asus is also a piece of work). The only warning I would give on EVGA Power Supplies is for one to make sure the batch he is buying was made by Silverstone (not Fortron Source Power, which make some of the SuperNova series, not Enhance, nor Etasis). And this is the reason why the consumer should be so careful when buying from these glorified snake-oil selling companies.
To conclude, I would strongly advise anyone buying hardware to only purchase it from Amazon using Amazon Prime (and only Amazon). Not only do you get excellent service and immediate refund/replacements on faulty parts, you also get the "30 days no-questions-asked" return policy (very useful after your eyes refuse to work with the horrid Asus Swift Panel and you want to exchange it for something better).
I'm sorry to have to say that most companies have become fraudulent entities... They will have a diamond or two in the lineup but the rest... Dog Shit smells better.
Cheers.
NorthWolfe I think you mean Seasonic (who make the good PSUs for EVGA, not Silverstone).
Hmm...two of these vs one 980 Ti hybrid
The former would be more expensive, but would it be worth the money? Thoughts and dreams!
when is the 980 ti comes out?
Pirate Hat I'd expect it around the same time as AMD's r9 3xx series in mid-late June, but this is just a educated guess based on logical decisions and rumors rather than being based on offical publications from AMD. Sadly if AMD does tell you anything before a public release your not allowed to distribute that information, so HardwareCanucks can't actually give you an answer better than speculation since they either don't know, or otherwise they can't say.
Hamish McGregor I wish that it could be out mid june otherwise i have to wait next month :(
Just got delayed to 2016 for production problems.

I think they are going to sell a total of like 3 of these
That's what you think. You're wrong.
***** Cause they only made 3
***** it was a joke
5 i want to sli
i use this card
I just dont see the reason to watercool a 980... I have two in SLI with good airflow and it never goes above 80 under heavy load. These cards run very cool.
the price is very good, i expected much more to be honest.
I really hope AMD will come up with some price competitive GPUs or they are in big trouble
just as info i have had a lot of trouble with evga gpus (4) more specific with their fans that they put on the coolers
A BACK PLATE HOLY SHEIT THIS IS EVGA?
kind makes me think of the posiden...
I will buy this one when the 980TI is out, so this one can drop its price, if i can get this for 550$ that would be amazing, my GTX780 cost me 500$ now it's like dirt cheap thanks to the 970.
its not quiet, all gpu coolers can have a custom fan profile, and aio coolers dont come near air coolers, just adjust the fan. undervolt at pump can be a problem and the radiator make turbulent noise as well.
20db is quiet pc btw, 30+ is just not good enough ...
Couldn't it be much shorter since it's partially water cooled?
WeAreMovieMakers No because they still have to fit everything on the board. This is a 980 just with water on the GPU. You still have all the ram and powercontrol.
You can still fit it all on there with a few less inches.
WeAreMovieMakers it can't since it uses the same PCB and blower fan\mounts as the reference card EVGA sells. This is a bonus in that you can still change to a water-block for open loop later on if you choose, but honestly with those sorts of temperatures I don't see you wanting too unless your AIO pump goes bad.
It's using a reference PCB but a shorter card would have been better.
Could use passive heat sink instead of a blower.
Perhaps a must have for our desert dwelling cousins?
I think alot of manufacturer will come up with their own ''hybrid'' model too for the next generation of video card. I mean cmon, look at these temps and clock, Its pretty much like real water cooling.
P.S I wonder if EVGA send golden sample to reviewer or if the chips used for the hybrid are top bin... it seems like everybody can easily achieve 1600mhz+ with their hybrid (really hard to do better than that, even with a real WC block).
Benoit Levesque I doubt that EVGA did a separate run of high binned cards for reviewers, but that doesn't mean HardwareCanucks didn't get randomly lucky this time. Its also worth noting that the cooler the GPU, the lower the voltage leakage and thus the faster you can clock for a given voltage AND the higher the voltage you can get before reaching instability. This is why on liquid nitrogen you often see clock-speeds & voltages that would be impossible on a air cooled card, even though many modern non-reference coolers like the Gigabyte G1 gaming (>450w) are rated for a higher wattage than you'll be able to push through the card before you'll get instability, and thus the chips temperature limits arn't actually the binding restriction for overclocking, the voltage leakage is.
Benoit Levesque It does seem like a high o/c sample. In reality the card does not o/c well.
Ivan Gantchev LTT and Jayz review's sample were also able to clock @ 1600mhz
Benoit Levesque It runs that on benchmark apps for me as well. Games like Project Cars and GTA5 will crash. Real world use is what matters. I know you'll say each card is different but when reviewers get max o/c and every single actual users on the forums can't reach that, you have to think something is up.
Ivan Gantchev Well im sure these reviewer does extended stability test, I really doubt they are not stable under gaming load at that clock. Plus, Benchmark are usually more demanding.
Hence why im saying that EVGA send golden sample.
R9 295x2 or this?
The 295x2 get's more fps but uses 3x more power
And they are both 650 if i'm correct
If you can afford any of those you should have a good psu too, so get the 295x2.
Arya35 I have the 295x2, just wondering what people think . Thanks for your opinion.
domepop It would be a downgrade imo.
best card ever.
