A Place for Pins. How to Make a Pinwheel for Your Hussif

- I decided that I should update the accessories that I have inside my hussif. I need a place for pins and so the Pinwheel is the first to be remade. The lovely little silk bee one has been used for a long time but just doesn't seem to fit in now and so is going to retire to the sewing box along with the scissors case and needle book too.
In this video I'll show you how to embroider the long and short stitch dog rose and then turn it into the lovely pinwheel. It just uses simple techniques, all stitching and no glue.
I hope you'll make a pinwheel for yourself. Happy stitching!

Well, quite frankly Marion, I don’t think it is fair for one person to have so much talent!😮😮😮. Just kidding. You are so awesome, i am going to repeat myself and say i am in awe. The pin cushion is lovely, and the sweater you are knitting is just stunning. ❤❤👏👏👏👏
😅 thanks a lot. For watching, for enjoying... Everything ☺️🪡🧵💐
Well, you’ve done it now! Everyone will be making pinwheels for their huswifs, myself included. It’s just the perfect size for a needle book or roll. Thank you for such clear instructions on this and on the thread painted rose. I am always so inspired by your videos and happy to see a new one pop up in my feed. ❤
I didn't expect so much interest in my hussif. Not so many people used to know what one was.
I agree whole hardily. I've got so many projects in my head.
Marion you take the fear out of trying something new. This pin wheel is so beautiful
💐
I am a slow stitcher and quilter and never been interested in embroidery, but you are an amazing teacher Marion and have convinced me to make one of these pinwheels.. thank you 😘
Hurrah ☺️
That's the cutest way to store pins I've ever seen - I just love it. Thank you for the clear tutorial, Marion, and all the tips about long and short shading and that lovely needle lace❤
I love your description of a pistol stitch, "a french knot on a stick". ♥
👍
What a pretty little pin wheel. I love to make useful items, will certainly have to attempt to make my own. Marion you explain the how and why of the stitching process so well, in terms we all can understand, every time I watch you I learn something new.
💐
The pinwheel is so gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.
Thank U! I will be making pinwheels for ever! You are so dear to my heart, I am so very grateful and blessed to be a part of your world!❤😊
☺️🧵🪡
You are such a wonderful teacher. Thank you you so much you are joy.❤😊
Everything you make is so beautiful and well done. I love watching you. You explain what you’re doing so well. Thank you Marion. Happy Mother’s Day!
Thank you ☺️
Thank you so much for your beautiful instructions! I can’t wait to make one of these cute pin wheels for my hussif! Now I can’t wait for the scissors case video! You teach beautifully and as I am left-handed, your teaching helps me greatly!
Hurrah for lefties 😅
I had never seen a pin wheel before. That is very clever. Thank you for posting.
I’ve never heard of or seen one before either - & I’m pretty old. I kept thinking - “Open it up, Marion - show us all what it’s like on the inside,”, but she didn’t, so I’ll have to skip to the end of the video to see how the pins are stored inside it, & if it’s something that is more practical for me than pin cushions (which are what I have all my pins in at present). 📍
37:49 Good Lord! It’s like a little biscuit, with the pins going in the cream part! Well, that’s a surprise. Another surprise is that Marion did what looks a bit like crochet, but with a sewing needle - quite astonishing! No wonder she didn’t open up the first one, but it would have been nice to see where the pins were in the old one, at the very start.
😂
❤What?! and ruin the surprise!!! 😆 😊
This pin wheel is a beautiful little treasure! Congratulations Marion!
Yout results speak for themselves. No-one can say your technique doesn't work. Thank-you.
I am completely bowled over with this project! It is so beautiful and practical. I must absolutely do it. Your explanations are so helpful. Thank you so much.
Hi Marion, I enjoy your videos so much. You have inspired me beyond expectation. Thank you for taking the fear out of embroidery.
I'm so happy that's how you feel about it. Embroidery and stitching should be joyful!
I love the needle weaving around the edge! This pinwheel will definitely be on my list of little pretty things to make.
It's so simple too ☺️
Thanks for your demo of making the pin wheel an of long and short stitch. I have long struggled with this but your demonstration has helped a lot
👍
Thank you. You explained the placement of the embroidery stitches so well it was the best tutorial I have ever watched. I will definitely be embroidering more flowers. X
Thank you so much 💐
You do exquisite work! I enjoy your channel so much. Thank you.
Really pretty pinwheel and enjoyed watching you make it. Great tutorial on long and short stitch. I love how you just use different threads together and then produce a pretty rose. You are always so practical with your approach to anything you make. Enjoy your trip to the show with your sister. Look forward to seeing what goodies you come back with.
☺️💐
So beautiful! I feel like I can be free & creative with my ideas! 🎉 Thank you!
😊
So sweet. Looks good enough to eat. Yummy. You are so clever, Marion! 🪡🧵🌸❤️
Thank you so much for the fabulous tutorial! Beautiful pinwheel!
So now I’m watching the whole thing all over again simply because it’s so delicious to watch you make it and listen to your tutorial. ❤
☺️👍
Ohhhhh well I have definitely got to make one of these pinwheels, how lovely, they would make great little presents too. Thank you for sharing this Marion, great tutorial, you make everything look so achievable
I really try to...
I never thought this would be cute, but now that I see you doing it, I love it.
😊
Wonderful video and gorgeous needle holder. Thank you for your clear and calm instructions and the inspiration.
I need to pack sewing for my upcoming holiday…and now I know what I’m going to be making!
Excellent!
Oooo! I "need" to make one of these pinwheels. Thank you for a wonderful tutorial.
Hello Marion, thank you for yet another wonderful video. Full of good tips and encouragement - fantastic! Your rose pin wheel is really lovely and you should be very proud of it. The way your husif is developing makes it, not only a practical piece of equipment, but a work of art. As always, I am looking forward to the next project you share with us. Take care, and happy crafting.
Thanks Angela 💐
I have learned so much watching thank you xx
Just wanted to say thank you with all my heart for sharing your projects. I have half done projects and stopped because I felt they had to be finished and produced to a standard I feel is hard for me to achieve.
You've given me the reassurance that my work doesn't have to conform to industrial standards.
You've helped me to see that I CAN create beautiful things.
I don't want to use the word "perfect" because hand made IS perfect, even if a certain stitch isn't within a millimetre.
I hope you know what I mean ❤
Your work is awesome.
I think I can finish some projects and just make them work, hopefully they'll be appreciated for being handmade xxx
I know exactly what you mean.
I really hope you feel you can go back to finish them eventually, but also.. just move forward with a new project seen to completion. That then may help you to see the others with a fresh perspective.
I used to feel everything had to be just so... And I absolutely love to know that I've done the best I can, but equally.... I'm doing all this stuff because it's supposed to be giving me pleasure 😊
So just enjoy your making....and be proud of what you achieve. Happy stitching 💐💕
Your wheel for pins is very clever. I think I'll give it a try! Thank you.
I was thinking of a pincushion but the pin wheel will be perfect for my project. Thank you for your great instructions
Wow. How neat. Now I need to make a sewing book.
Hi Marion, Thank you for sharing your tips and trips with the beautiful painted thread rose. You make things so simple and break them down so they are very do able. Really does inspire us to try. I also love your colourwork knitting which has also inspired me to do some of my own as I am a knitter but have never tried the colourwork before. I am having trouble as to how to turn after my neck its a bit confusing but hopefully can work it out soon to carry on with it. Your colourwork jumper is so beautiful! Hope you enjoy the show and your time away, yes I really do also have more fun buying thrifted fabric also and agree it really does make you more creative. Thank you for sharing and have fun at the show cannot wait to see what you bring back. Enjoy.
Thanks Tracy. I hope you manage with your knitting. It's very uplifting when you can work through a problem and you get that lightbulb moment and manage to move forward. Good luck with it all 🤞☺️🧶
Thanks so much Marion yes totally agree@@marionsworld24
Thank you for a fun and informative tutorial one thing I might add is that wool for the stuffing is perfect synthetic stuffing or fabric bits with sizing can rust the pins which would be a shame after all the effort put in to embroider. And assemble this lovely pinwheel addition to our sewing accessories thanx again 🥰
If I hadn't had the wool I'd have used a bit from my thread jar instead...
Wow ❤
I love your pinwheel. I'll be giving one a try. Such a great way to keep pins , without the worry of getting your fingers stabbed. X
Absolutely loved learning about this little accessory.
It's a lovely one 😊
Thank you for the pin holder tutorial. It is a great way to travel with pins
So delightful! and Useful. Thank you for sharing your talent so generously. Beautiful rose! 🌺xo
Beautiful flower embroidery, the colours are so realistic. Perfect addition for a travel project.
Cardigan is just gorgeous.
Have a great time at the stitching show. Xx
Thank you.. :)
Just looked up the book you got the pin wheel from and there are 2 listed both over $130.00. So thank you very much for sharing the pattern. I can’t wait to make one
Oh I've had that book since it came out many years ago. I didn't realise that it would be so expensive!
Marion thank you so much for sharing your ideas, skills and day to day experiences. You recently mentioned adding music for the times when you are being quiet while working and I wanted to add my 2 cents worth on that idea - namely a big NO for me, I enjoy the quiet in between your engaging dialogue. I wouldn’t change a thing about how you are sharing on your RUclips channel. I am a core viewer (recently subscribed). ❤
There were quite a few who said no to music...😊 I was pleased really as I just thought that was what people expected at the time. So there'll not be music coming any time soon ☺️
Love your pinwheel Marion . Beautiful ❤
I imagined it as an oreo cookie 😊
😂
Pin wheel is very lovely. I have that on my to do list. Great video. Thank you.
This is so helpful, I have never seen someone explain it so easily, thank you so much. Learning so much from you, love your videos 🥰
💐
Never seen one of these pin wheels...nice. thx 💜🇺🇸
I love this pin wheel. Thank you for breaking it down to such simple steps such that even I think it is a possibility for my hussif! I feel so encouraged. There are so many ideas for hussifs spinning round in my head with fabric ranging from recycled denim with a bold interior made of a beautiful, bright turquoise insect design fabric to vintage embroidered table runners with lacey interior. I will be making quite a few hussif at this rate. Thanks again for the inspiration.
They all sound lovely 🪡🧵😊
Love this little needs holder
I love your pin case and you knitting is beautiful.
You are so inspiring.❤️
Marion, you are an inspiration and your teaching method is so easy to understand and follow. I'm in my late 70s, not embroidered since primary school here in Australia and I'm now inclined to add some to my slow stitching work. I am making a Hussif from bits and pieces at home and will have a go at the pin wheel also. Thank you so much.
Oh I hope you're enjoying your new stitching journey Denise 🤞🪡🧵
I’m baaack… just found you yesterday (May 8, ‘24) a left handed beginner. I’m very inspired… you’ve given me ‘permission’ to work my stitches in an imperfect way - especially as a newbie… know that better control & precision comes with practice… will be binge watching your videos to immerse myself. Than you for sharing your knowledge & talent so effortlessly! 🧡
Wow.. great message and I'm so happy you enjoyed watching..
Hurrah for lefties I always say.. ☺️
When I first saw myself stitching on camera I kept thinking it looked odd somehow.. then I realised it was because I never saw anyone stitching left handed 😅
Love this !
Another fabulous video. I've put this project onto my (ever growing) list to do.
That's just cute and flippin nifty, thanks you for sharing. 💜
😊
Oh Marion,
So lovely to find you here, on RUclips. This is such a lovely project.
I am from Canada and teach sewing to young children, and I think this would be a lovely project for each of them to do. Thank you so much for your inspiration🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
That's such a good thing to do. It's a shame that more people don't learn as children anymore.
Thank U❤you give wonderful instructions!
You are so welcome!
Very beautiful!!! I feel silly, I only thought pinwheels were a toy I played with as a child- not a slim storage for sewing pins!!! 😂❤
☺️💐🪡🧵
Marion I have been binge watching your videos and I am so amazed at your talent in so many things. You are such a good teacher and i love the way you take time to thoroughly explain what you are doing so we can understand and try the techniques. This pinwheel is so beautiful and so creative. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely talent!
Thank you Rachel..
Marion it,s wonderful! Thank you! x

Love it, thank you for sharing with us ❤😊
I didn’t need one but now I want one and I’m certainly going to make one. I think the needle laced edge is brilliant 👌Thank you for showing us how to make one. Will make for a lovely gift ❤
👍
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Took a while to watch because i had to get up & down quite a bit but I enjoyed every second. Your voice is so soft & pretty, perfect for talking & teaching. Ty for the visial tutorial on the placement of the rose petal stitches, that would definitely come in handy.. Your pinwheel turned out beautifully & I absolutely loved your 🏹 24 idea .. I'll be keeping that for future reference as well ☺️ hope you have a happy week 💝
The bow and arrow is a reference to Maid Marion. I've signed my work like that since I was 8 years old.
I love this-thanks for showing the whole thing-I want to do one so much!!
Cute little pinwheel and wonderful instruction on how to make our own. Your tutorials are so clear and backed up with the reasons why you do each step. You continue to “WOW” us with each video. Thank you! 😊
💐🧵🪡
You are one talented lady can’t wait to see the scissor case. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. I have learned a lot. I also go to the thrift store and find beautiful fabric from clothes and also lace from clothes especially little girls dresses.
👍☺️
Enjoying your work ,makes me want to get sewing too ,thank you for sharing your sewing ,watching from USA, We are having a cool spring,
We had snow flurries yesterday!
Thank you so much! It is a delightful video! I learn so much from your wonderful way of explaining each step of your process. You brighten my day!
💐
The pinwheel is lovely 🌹 ❤All my craft is done with thrifty materials
so much to use mens shirts are a good one thank you ❤
Thank you Marion for another wonderful project and very clear instructions. This will be so useful and pretty at the same time. Pins are the one problematic item really if you want to travel light with a project I find. You either carry a couple pinned in the needle book or a separate packet of them. Cardigan is looking beautiful. Enjoy the show have a wonderful time and I hope you find something nice to get which does not break the bank😂😂
🤞🤞🤞
That was neat!! I never knew about a pin wheel!! ❤
Love that so cute…pretty…your good girl..
This is so beautiful.
What an amazing thing your pin wheel is, Marion! I don’t get surprised by much any more, but your pin wheel is something that I’ve never seen before, but which is very practical & looks wonderful! Thank you so much for showing us all this really gorgeous little safe, soft & pretty container! As a side note - I love the color & the preliminary look of your beautiful coat project. 💐
I must get back to sewing it... 🤔
Another brilliant one! ❤
This turned out so nice. Love the idea!
I’ve been doing handwork for many years, but I learn something every time I watch one of your videos! Your explanation of how to direct the long and short stitches is a game changer! And working with the fine wool makes it so delicate. Thanks🎉love you💞
Thanks so much Patti 💐
I have a project waiting that would look lovely with the long and short stitches. You explain it so well, and I always look forward to your videos.
I also love your little pin wheel with the needle lace edge ❤. You are so clever. You make everything look so easy.
It's just taking things step by step...☺️

That is adorable, from start to finish it was fun to watch. I will give it a go. I'm going to Florida soon, I'll make one to put in my needle book. You are the most talented person with a needle I know Marion!
😂
