    Thanks for watching! P.S: If you wanna game at 1080p instead of 720p. You’ll need to set it up for each game by going to each ones ‘properties’ menu and setting the resolution from ‘default’ to native or to whatever you like.

  • @lTheRealDealGamingl
    @lTheRealDealGamingl Год назад +68

    You can increase the maximum resolution for playing games on external displays by going to the properties for each individual game and changing the resolution setting from "default" to your selected resolution.

      Is this why I still see the black bars on my TV? I was playing hades last night and it was as if the black bars just transfered to the TV rather than scaling correctly.

    • @lTheRealDealGamingl
      @lTheRealDealGamingl Год назад +1

      @ChaseLancaster that may be a display/ ratio setting on your TV. Even if you leave it at "default" most TVs will automatically upscale the 720p signal to fill the screen

      @@lTheRealDealGamingl Total PC noob here. If I get the official Docking Station and play, for example, Hollow Knight (I don't have high graphical standards) and change the resolution settings for my 1920 x 1080 monitor, it's gonna run smoothly anyway with the upscaled resolution?
      It's just a 22 inch monitor, but I've noticed some games don't look that great when I connect the Steam Deck to the monitor with just the HDMI cable (as the resolution doesn't change from the native 1280 x 800).

    • @lTheRealDealGamingl
      @lTheRealDealGamingl Год назад

      @@reval8515 It depends on the game but a game like hollow night which isn't very demanding should run great at 1080p with the steam deck.
      Btw you shouldn't need the official dock to change the resolution of the connected external monitor. Those same steps in my original post should work with a hdmi cable (granted that it's a quality cable that supports 1080p). I did this myself before I bought the dock.

    • @reval8515
      @reval8515 Год назад

      @@lTheRealDealGamingl I've tried my HDMI cable and wow it works much better than I anticipated. I was able to run Nier Automata at 60 fps with low quality settings and Ori and the Will of the Wisps with medium (and this game is listed as "not compatible" with the Steam Deck lmao). Hollow Knight unsurprisingly runs at maximum settings without problems. I'm probably buying a docking station anyway so I can play while charging the Deck and also use the keyboard and mouse. I'm astounded by the power of the Deck and by how miserable my PC is (I couldn't even play Hollow Knight without stuttering in certain areas with medium settings at windowed 1280 x 720p).

    I went to a holiday house last weekend, and took a USB-c to HDMI dongle and an HDMI lead. I was able to just plug the deck in and play with the controllers, but on the big screen only. It was certainly the easiest way to play on the tv and worked with my phone and tablet also for streaming video.

    Did you mention the price for the Valve's Dock includes an extra charger? I wish Valve would have an option purchase without the charger. In addition, I wish Valve would include upgrade options at purchase for things like the no drift joysticks. I don't have a Steam Deck yet. I have to wait until I transition into my computer career.

    Good video. One thing. While it is true the dock doesn't boost gaming performance by itself. Due to the deck being tethered to the charger you are no longer restricted by its battery and can boost the steam decks visuals and frame rate without worrying about a dead battery. This is essentially what the switch does by downclocking itself in handheld by 60% for battery life but removing that limitation in docked mode. You just do it yourself with the deck.
    Try it out. Instead of playing a game at 720/30fps set it to 1080p with a un capped frame rate and higher graphical settings. the little device will surprise you.

    • @midasgamespace

    With the power, 45w is enough power to charge the battery and run the deck on the charger alone. Once the battery is charged. You will run the deck off the 45w charger alone. So you dont beat up your battery.

    • @MRguywithlazereyes
      @MRguywithlazereyes 9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, I agree. The dock is designed to be used with 45w. Valve prolly added it for the user's sake and simplicity. Otherwise, people would use their phone charger and complain if it doesn't work. Why complain for getting an extra charger? Smh

    I've got the official docking station and I really like it. I like extra power pack. I set it up on my desk with the extra power pack always plugged in so it's always good to go. I leave the original power pack in my travel bag so I always have that handy too. So it's great IMO.
    I have a technical question. If I hook up a USB thumbstick drive can I access it from game mode or do I need to use desktop mode?
    I'd like to have the ability to have installed games on a USB thumb drive - not to play from but to use to help me move games back and forth between different microSDs and also between the SSD too. So for example if I want to copy from one microSD to another I would first move the game files from the 1st microSD to the USB drive and then swap the microSDs and then move the game files from the USB drive to the 2nd microSD.

    The only thing I wish the Steam Deck had support for was the external GPU's, that would allow the performance to sky rocket exponentially, but... Beggers can't be choosers. The aggressive pricing of the Steam Deck and soldering it or modifying the pcb probably wasn't seen as worth the hassle.

    • @OGkush69x
      @OGkush69x Год назад +1

      That would of been crazy. Plugged in you can have it as your full size gaming rig plugged into a 4k tv full power with a 3070,3080,4090 etc. Then unplugged it can still run those games on medium settings 800p screen.🔥 what a missed opportunity.

    I prefer it come with the power brick because if it doesn't, you know the price is barely going to change if at all.
    Same thing happened with the Surface Pro line, reviewers kept asking for MS to sell the pen separately. Well, now they do, Surface is the same price as it was and the pen is $130 separately.
    Better to get the extra cable in case you want to use it when traveling or if it one of the cables break
