My wife is a badass! You dreamed of hiking the AT for several years now. You trained hard for it, you prepared for the weather, and you were physically ready to hit the ground with 15+ mile days. You knew the separation would be tough, but you gave it your best shot. At the end of the day the reality of an AT thru-hike didn’t live up to that dream. Although I’ll miss seeing your videos from the AT, I am so thankful that I can now join you on several of your section hikes. I’m thankful for the many hikes we’ll do this Spring as well as the 20+ miles we’ve already hiked since you’ve been home. You’re an amazing wife and an amazing mother. I’m so happy that our girls have such a strong and beautiful example for what a woman can achieve and when it’s time to let go of something that’s not making you happy. We love you and are proud beyond words. Now on to the next adventures….
I called your wife a badass before I saw that you also consider her a badass, lol! I guess we are all on the same page :) Wishing you so many wonderful adventures together.
Going to miss your videos. Your the only person I was following. I tried to follow another person but I enjoyed your sweet spirit and positive attitude. God bless you! Keep on trekking on!!
my husband and I have been enjoying watching your videos. You have courage to attempt and courage to no its time to step away. Your so positive... enjoyed and look forward to seeing future endevours. Thanks
You are nothing short of awesome! You truly have inspired. Good for you for every mile you put in. So many adventures ahead with your family. What a wonderful human being you are!
Thank you for taking us on your journey . I enjoyed your videos and you have inspired me to plan my own hike . I admire you so much for your strength especially when you were hiking in all that rain . You are amazing rain walker. I hope you realized how much joy you have brought to all of us following you . Take Care and all the best to you and your family .
You made the right decision for you and that doesn’t negate all the inspiration you’ve given. It’s been great to follow your journey. 400 miles is still a HUGE hike! I will definitely keep watching your videos!
You got what you wanted out of this trail sweet lady. A new appreciation for family and life. I pray you will not beat yourself up. If you had not tried it you would’ve never known and you would’ve always wondered. Best of luck to you and we’ll follow whatever journey you take. Prayers 🙏
We will like you no matter what u decide to do! You r a very kind person yourself. And you r very lucky that you have such a wonderful family to go back too. You r so right that many people do not have what you have!!! Bless you and go home and enjoy your life with your precious family!!!
Thanks for taking us on the ride Throttle. It was fun while it lasted. There are times I find myself dreaming of being on the trail, but not sure I'd be able to make the entire journey. At the end of the day maybe it's not about finishing, but enjoying the journey while you are out there. Getting what we need from the adventure, then moving on to what's next in our lives. Best of luck to you in whatever you do!
I had to settle for LASHing the trail and completed it in 2020, after 7 years of chipping away at it. The experience was amazing and taught me that the trail experience is about so much more than thru hiking. I was able to enjoy the stoke and excitement anew each year. I had a new “tramily” each year and got to be a part of several years worth of thru hiking “classes.” I was able to provide trail magic to hikers here in NC, then see them farther up the trail. The list goes on and on. The trail is not going anywhere. You will get to continue to enjoy your engagement with it in new and surprising ways.
I have so enjoyed your journey till now. Thank you for sharing. I want to wish you the very best that life has to offer you. I totally understand missing your family and loved ones . It took a lot of courage for you to keep coming back trying to make it work when you’re heart was not in it. God bless you. By the way congratulations on over 400 miles.
It has been an honor to get to know you and share your journey. You have hiked your hike and it is more than most every have the opportunity to do. So I hope you look back and smile when you think of the AT. Sending hugs and smiles.
Girl you are awesome! Good for you for doing what is best for YOU! I have so enjoyed watching your videos thus far and reliving the trail. You kicked butt out there and I’m sure have learned so much from the experience and at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about! Can’t wait to keep following your channel and seeing other hikes. Thank you for sharing your journey❤️🔥
From your first video I was hooked on your journey. I felt like your personality messed well with mine and it made watching your videos that much better. Congrats on how far you went and can't wait to see what's next for you.
You and your videos will be greatly missed! But you accomplished more adventure in 27 days than some do in a lifetime! You should be super proud of hiking 420 miles! You mentioned hiking most of the Mountains to Sea trail so you probably are already familiar with Stone Mountain State Park in NC (not GA) The MST runs through the park. If you and your family haven’t already, camp and hike at Stone Mountain NC! I used to live in NC so it’s one of my favorite spots. The backcountry trail follows a creek most of the way and you can take a junction off that onto the MST and hike up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. And the top of Stone Mountain is super cool. 👍 Well anyway, I hope you have lots more hiking adventures. If you feel like sharing those on RUclips we would love to see ya again! If not, best of luck in everything you do; throttle on! ❤️
I trained there and Doughton Park daily leading up to this thru-hike. It’s home to me. Thank you so much for the encouragement! I’ll keep posting and adventuring!!👊🏻🥾🥾
I hate to see you leave the trail but I totally understand. I don't think I could do it alone. I just knew you would be first to Katahdin you started very strong! I love your videos keep hiking. There are many wonderful places to see that you can enjoy with your husband and family!
Thank you so much for allowing me into your hiking experience. It is refreshing to see the honesty you shown in the videos. And yes you should enjoy it. Thanks. Now perhaps you and your husband or a friend will Section hike.
I’m a 2021 AT thru-hiker and I felt just as you that the trail refilled my faith in humanity. The hiker community is FULL of kindness & compassion and I truly feel blessed to have experienced this amazing group of human beings. It’s not about how far you go, you walk your walk and when you feel done you stop. I applaud you for listening to your inner voice and I wish you many more adventures in the future. No matter what you have a story to add to your life. Smiles for miles All love Edge ✌🏼
Thank you for sharing your authentic self. We were not built for isolation. We were built for community - in person community. You are brave to go home and honor your truth. Good for you!!! LASH on or SASH on or day hike on. "Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Live tomorrow and the next day and the next, welcoming each new day the same as you did on the trial, anticipating the each day's life adventures.
Like I told you in the beginning of your thru hike, thanks for making us look so good. Its not throwing in the towel, its just going home. Thinking of you.
“I think I’ll go home now.” Indeed. I understand well you have much to go back home to, and nothing that you have to prove to yourself, or us. It sounds like you got much from your journey. Perhaps all that you needed to gain and achieve, you have gained and achieved. (Self wisdom, strength, perspective, appreciation.) All the things we all hope to gain when we go out there. And you didn’t have to finish the whole trail to gain these things. You impressed us all with your resilience. I know we don’t know each other very well at all but I’m so proud of you! You made it far! As far as what to do after this... You could always come LASHing with me. :-) I go out every early summer, would be a lot of fun to knock out a couple of weeks together and then go back to our families. It’s a good life! :-)
The through hiker life isn't for everybody. I accepted that a long time ago and now I'm a perfectly happy section hiker doing the Colorado Trail in bits and pieces, and if you feel "incomplete" because you didn't go all the way, you can always break it down into manageable pieces. Eat that elephant one bite at a time. That said, if you feel that enough is enough and you never want to be on the AT again, who cares? You've already accomplished something most people would find impossible. You have most definitely NOT "failed". I admire and respect your guts and stamina, both mental and physical. I've enjoyed following your journey, and wish I had half the strength and courage you've shown. Good luck and happy trails!
...Who knew ,, you found what Santa does in his off season ... lol......... the decision to take on a long trek and then make the decision to stop is Not throwing in the towel,, it's just "enough" ... before you spoke of Forest Gump ,, that's just what entered my thoughts "I think I'll go home now" ... I followed you because I saw an interesting woman ,, an interesting hiker pursuing a vision ... .... There are many trails to trek and not disrupt to foundation of your life and as hiking gives you a way to be part of your psyche,,, You are a strong beautiful spirit as the morning Owls had come to visit and bring a light to your day ,, an important day ,, to go home .. Much Respect to you .......God Bless .....
Hey throttle.. been kinda sneaky watching you since before you started the AT. I decided to give you a follow, because I know your not done . No pressure, but please continue to show us your local hikes. I love to see the world Thu your eyes.. you see such beauty in the little things and the people you meet. You remind me to be positive and be honest with everyday emotions. Your truth has inspired me. We cant be bad asses everyday! I’m planning to challenge myself for the first time, on the foothills trail. I’d love to be your hiking buddy, but I think your too fast for me. keep throttling.
Great job nevertheless! You passed me twice. That's like you were toying with me. I hope you and your husband head back out for some of landmark spots someday. Tell your parents Hi for me!
Thank you so much! Yeah, I plan on doing another lash. Will probably finish it that way. The parents will be thrilled! Lol. Blessings on your journey!!🥾🥾
Hello Jay! Love your vlogs. So creative! Look forward every evening. Since my daughter left the trail for now, your the One. We’ll be watching and pulling for you all the way to Katahdin. I’ve ventured into some of your other vlogs of other trails and the one you talked about Liza and I cried my eyes out. One can tell she was a very special spirit and loved you so very much. Blessings to you on the trail and Much trail magic.
@@susanbarker3485 Thanks, Susan. I can definitely say if she was alive I would never leave her for even a couple of weeks so I can understand Throttle leaving the trail. Some may say I was too attached to her.
This just bummed me out so much. I so wish you had hiked last year because me and my crew of 4 and eventually 6 would have grabbed you into our group so freaking fast. The AT is tough and it is a change of life style especially when you have a great life at home. We were a bag of misfit toys hiking together. You would have fit in perfect... Not that you're a misfit toy lol. We were all mostly introverts that seemed to fit together. I'm honestly not sure I could have finished it it weren't for my new friends. We all said the same thing. I have so many amazing memories that I would never have had. You have awesome support back home. I stumbled through the first 4 months after the trail. ... I had to laugh when you said you've never been so emotional in you life...I was a blubbering mess crying in a grocery store check out in Maine for some reason. All the endorphins following can wreak havoc on your system. Ahhh the life of a hiker. Anyway I wish you the best always. ❤️👣 ~ Mad Rat
That's too bad. I was sensing a few video's ago you seemed like you were checking out. I do 10 day sections hikes at AT a couple times a year, so it never wears me down. That second to last still of you, that was Grandfather Mt right? Happy trails where ever it takes you.
You are such a beautiful soul! Thank you for this video and for showing us yourself, your emotions. This is also a real part of the AT. Not everyone continues their journey all the way to Katahdin, but after seeing so many AT vlogs I think that everyone, however long their AT journey, takes something away with them. It has been a pleasure following along with you. I wish you the very best in all your future adventures. You have a wonderful family! God bless!
Come down for the storm, go back up in sun. Don't think so much. Just breathe: rocks, path, sun, green, blue, day, night, Ah! The World of Ten Thousand Things is of a Single Suchness! Up, down, here, there, On It or Off It, whatever you decide is just Wonderful.
I liked that your took the time to do a deep dive into your feelings. Most hikers that leave the trail don't open up about their feelings. The AT seems very hard both physically and mentality. I salute your passive and your achievement. What you accomplished is amazing. The longest I ever hiked was about 20 miles. I think you're amazing .
KNA, in this world you must do what is right for you and maybe a thru hike is not it but you did all that you did and thats the adventure. Heard you had stopped while I was on the AT heading into NC this wk. Maybe section hiking is the thing for you. Thats what im about. So Peace and love. Happy trails. Peach
You can't go wrong when you follow your heart. I'm so glad you have the friends and family that you have. You are truly so blessed! I can't hike like you any more, so thank you for letting me see the world through your beautiful eyes. You notice and appreciate a lot of the same things in the woods that I do! I look forward to more adventures if you have the chance to make more videos.
Sounds like the trail gave you exactly what you needed. The best part is that you can always come back if you want to. Thank you for sharing your journey. Would love to see you vlog your final 40 miles to Klingman’s with your hubby!
There is great wisdom in knowing that you found what is most/more important to you! Now just have peace in accepting what you have learned and love that family of yours. We have enjoyed your journey and greatly enjoyed the perspective. Thank you!
Their are so many benefits to hiking, but I think one of the best ones is to just live in the moment and challenge ourselves. We can learn so much about ourselves even our purpose and what we miss and where our happy place is and sometimes that is on the trail and for those of us with families sometimes its with them. For you to know what you want and to have the courage to do it is awesome to watch! It's been fun watching you, good luck and God Bless.
Enjoyed your journey so much, will miss you. Great shout-out to Highlander58, he we one of the first hikers I ever followed. I start my thru-hike in 25 days, I’ll be looking out for some of the things that you’ve shown us, like the ‘smiling tree’ 😂 Is returning to the trail in a few weeks an option? It will be a totally different experience very soon with plenty of other hikers around, you’ll at least be able to see if the alternative environment is more to your liking? All the best from the UK ‘Flags’
I really appreciate you sharing this. I started March 4 and made it 3 days with extreme anxiety. It was hard to enjoy anything in that state of being. I came home but plan to give it a 2nd try April 20. If you change you mind or feel ready in May, I'm happy to have a hiking friend out there. I am also an introvert, but found the kindess of other hikers life saving out there. I met a young lady who was trying her 3rd time. A man in his 70's at Amacalola said to be "there is no right way to finish"...whether it's at once, over years, or here and there.
Thank you for taking us along with you. you have learned so much about yourself and that is all part of the journey. Learning what you enjoy, learning how great your family is - that is so important! You may find some others in the future to through hike with you. You never know what great adventures are ahead! Thank you again for sharing yourself and your journey. You have been a true inspiration to me!!
Whatever you decide is best for you and your family. We all have enjoyed your ray of sunshine, honesty and the beautiful scenery you have shared will forever be in my thoughts. You have my full respect in your choice, I do hope to hike with you again. Prayers are still with you and family.
I am so proud of you for setting out and hiking 400 miles. No small feat. Your bravery is inspiring for your decision to BOTH start AND stop when you realized it wasn't what you wanted anymore. You are amazing and I can't wait to see what you do next
I’d like to say, your AT TH journey ended but you didn’t quit…. So proud of you 👏 Happy hiking 🥾 Go enjoy a diet Coke 😀 You don’t need the trail calories now 🤣
The world needs more Throttles. Your personality just shines through. You should give talks. I'm a Viet Vet with PTSD and was homeless when I was in the midst of my struggle. Hearing someone like you would have been so good for me. Peace and love back at you and your family. Thanks for sharing this wonderful adventure.
When they pick you up you should still drive to Damascus for lunch!! I have enjoyed your videos and your determination. Hiking with family elsewhere is about the hardest thing.
My husband and I have enjoyed experiencing your AT hiking journey. Your peaceful, loving spirit, love of life, and family have shined through. We so admire your strength in honoring that your journey on the AT was complete. It's not always about going from point A to Point B. We both hope you CONTINUE to VLOG your hiking journeys. Peace and Blessing to you and your family as you travel the Journey of Life.
I am so happy to see you honor your own deepest feelings. You are not caving in to social expectations. You are acting with courage and integrity. Beautiful.
You've had a great hike and shared it with us. Don't beat yourself up. The trail will always be there. In the future, you can always pick a season and pick up where you left off, and section hike to the next trailhead. The next season, repeat. I've sectioned hiked, now over half of the trail, over about 20 years. Five years ago, I had a triple bypass and now I have a hard time convincing my family to let me go day hiking. I guess, I'll just have to go and not tell them. My thoughts are, everyone gets to die once, but the few days you have left to live, ought to be enjoyed to the fullest. Thanks for sharing and we'll see you somewhere out on the trail. Trail name used to be Missouri Boy, but since the operation, I've changed it to Mended Heart! Happy Trails!
Thank- you for sharing your adventure for the past few weeks. I've enjoyed your videos. There are as many reasons to get off the trail as there are to get on! It's YOURA journey!!! Good Luck and enjoy your family!
Hey, no regrets. Or to say it with W.H.Henley: ...YOU are the master of your fate, YOU are the captain of your soul. Thanx for the videos and all the best wishes from Germany.
I loved watching you. You showed some of the most beautiful and unseen parts of the trail that many vloggers miss or do not show much of. You had a grateful, kind, attitude and you persevered. 400 miles is insanely impressive. Sometimes the trail life for 5-6 months isn’t as romantic as it seems. I’m thru hiking next March 2023 and I’m extremely excited, but I’m also worried that I won’t love it. We will see. Thank you for sharing your journey
It has been an absolute treat to follow along with you. The scenery, views and sunrises were amazing. All the best to you on your next adventure Throttle!!! Sending best wishes from Cape Town, South Africa.
My wife and I truly believed we would be with you for 6 months but we understand and you have become one of our favorite person. Thank you giving me the courage to try the foothills next year (I had quadruple bypass 2 years ago and feel i need something different and I thank you for that. Throttle On!
We loved watching you, you are a bad @ss! Watched all of your AT videos and the Foothills Trail. You have helped keep us inspired for our AT hike. Could not imagine being out there alone, Mule and I keep each other mentally strong. The Foothills Trail was my most challenging hike and the AT will be beyond anything I could ever dream of, whether it's a 1, 10, 100, 1000 or so miles or Katadin it's all a new accomplishment. Love you girl! You are amazing.

And she has one BADASS husband. She is amazing and touched many of us. God Bless you both and your Family.
Your wife AND you are badass!
I called your wife a badass before I saw that you also consider her a badass, lol!
I guess we are all on the same page :)
Wishing you so many wonderful adventures together.

Among the vlogs we watched for this Class of '22 -- yours had something very special in it -- YOU
Thank you
Good Luck! You gotta be happy!!! Best to you and your family!!
Job well done, thanks for letting us join you…
Thank you for your honesty. I am going to do a thru hike for 2-3 weeks and dread missing my family for that time.
You made the right decision for you and that doesn’t negate all the inspiration you’ve given. It’s been great to follow your journey. 400 miles is still a HUGE hike! I will definitely keep watching your videos!

Awesome job. Best of luck to you! You definitely put in some amazing miles!!! Enjoyed watching!!

Going to miss you! You do you, hike your own hike, all those things. You take care of yourself first!
If you found what you needed to find, then you are successful. Much love and best wishes to you!
You did good! This is jus a chapter in your adventures through life!Seymour Trails
So enjoying following your adventures! Thanks for sharing.
You gotta do what's right for you, girl. I hope one day I see you on trails! Hugs...
You are champion!
@@JayWandersOut No way. A love like that some never find and can never understand.
Thank you so much for this!! Yeah, it would’ve made a big difference. 👊🏻
Thanks for the walk! Blessings.
This hits close and is so very well said. Glad you’re able to end on a positive note and feel happy with your decision.
Good luck to you. I am following you on RUclips. Please tell me what’s it’s really like! #ATClassof2023
Best of luck to you!! You are doing awesome!!👊🏻🥾🥾
Thank you so much for your encouragement! It is tough and I hope to see more of it soon. 👊🏻
Nice 400+. It’s been nice watching.
Thanks for sharing. You will be missed! You got what you needed. Time to go home.. and that’s OK!!
Thank you!
Thanks and throttle up. !!!!!
I really enjoyed following your hike Throttle! Have a great year and maybe we’ll see you on future hikes. Yeah Buddy! Be happy!
If you based you journey on miles, you failed!
If you journey is about experience, joy and love, you left the trail, but not the journey.
You are genuine best of luck and enjoy your future journeys
Their are so many benefits to hiking, but I think one of the best ones is to just live in the moment and challenge ourselves. We can learn so much about ourselves even our purpose and what we miss and where our happy place is and sometimes that is on the trail and for those of us with families sometimes its with them. For you to know what you want and to have the courage to do it is awesome to watch! It's been fun watching you, good luck and God Bless.
Enjoyed your journey so much, will miss you.
Great shout-out to Highlander58, he we one of the first hikers I ever followed.
I start my thru-hike in 25 days, I’ll be looking out for some of the things that you’ve shown us, like the ‘smiling tree’ 😂
Is returning to the trail in a few weeks an option? It will be a totally different experience very soon with plenty of other hikers around, you’ll at least be able to see if the alternative environment is more to your liking?
All the best from the UK

I really appreciate you sharing this. I started March 4 and made it 3 days with extreme anxiety. It was hard to enjoy anything in that state of being. I came home but plan to give it a 2nd try April 20. If you change you mind or feel ready in May, I'm happy to have a hiking friend out there. I am also an introvert, but found the kindess of other hikers life saving out there. I met a young lady who was trying her 3rd time. A man in his 70's at Amacalola said to be "there is no right way to finish"...whether it's at once, over years, or here and there.
After some time passes if you find you miss the thru hiking, come join the 5 of us as we depart Harpers Ferry northbound on April 20.
Thanks for sharing your hike with us. 💕
Thank you for sharing your adventure. I wish you the best.
You can come for a weekend in the forest when your heart calls for it. Enjoy your family d life.
Whatever you decide is best for you and your family. We all have enjoyed your ray of sunshine, honesty and the beautiful scenery you have shared will forever be in my thoughts. You have my full respect in your choice, I do hope to hike with you again. Prayers are still with you and family.
It was nice to meet you. Thanks for sharing this adventure. All the best on your next adventure!
Everyone likes your "good morning" smile. Don't be down on yourself.
I am so proud of you for setting out and hiking 400 miles. No small feat. Your bravery is inspiring for your decision to BOTH start AND stop when you realized it wasn't what you wanted anymore. You are amazing and I can't wait to see what you do next
CHECK OUT WALKING TAPEWORM 🚶
Thank you so much for taking us on your journey! Be well!!
Thank you for sharing your journey! I wish you all the best in your future adventures.
Beautiful.
You are the first hiker I’ve followed. I looked forward to your daily blog.
Thanks for the 28 days you gave us,
You've had a great hike and shared it with us.
Or to say it with W.H.Henley: ...YOU
are the master of your fate, YOU are the captain of your soul.
