“Some times in life you do what you think you’re supposed to do and not perhaps what you want to do” this statement spoke to me so damn true! Great vid.

I look forward to following your current pilgrimage in Spain. God bless you sir. The world is a better place with you in it. Best, Shuttle.
After having thru-hiked the trail myself and having watched hundreds of hikers’ RUclips videos and documentaries, I didn’t think that there was much left to move and inspire me but I was wrong. Well done! Also, churches used to be open all the time when I was a child growing up in the ‘60s. They did in fact start to get overrun with vandalism and homeless people and now they’re closed when not in use. It’s sad but that’s the unfortunate reality.
This is such an insightful and touching documentary -- THE best AT journey I've watched (a bunch!) Such great trail depiction and sharing your vulnerability. I am also Scotts-Irish (Ulster). My ancestors came across to the northeast, migrated to NC, then again to southern Indiana where we remain. I could listen to you talk alllll day! I was heartbroken for you but what an experience 💔
Thank you! I watched your documentary in one sitting. I’m dreaming with a big heart to make my own little trek with nature to the top of a local mountain. Returning to the beauty of the place and movement up the path, once I’m recovered from an injury and well.
Derek, what a magical journey and such a beautifully put together video. It was so serendipitous that today, in the midst of one of my saddest days in the last 10 years, your videos popped across my feed, to make me smile with your memories and be comforted with the wisdom of your words. God bless you, Derek and, thank you.
This video has to be hands down the best video of the AT experience. It's powerful! Emotional! Is full of inspiration. I cried happy tears. I cried sad tears. The bond between hikers is so satisfying. The sadest part of this video was when it was over and you didn't make it to Katahdin. I knew deep down inside I wanted to hike to AT. Now I'm making it mandatory! This video will show others how important this trail is. HYOH! " The long way is the right way!"
