You seem to always have something positive to say about a negative day. That is so awesome. Keep your your great attitude and you will make it all the way to katahdin! God bless and keep on stepping 😀🤩🤩🚶🏼♀️
Loving your videos! My group the Backpacking Babes spent the night at Shelton Graves in summer 2020. It was a beautiful site and it came up a rain and I didn’t have my tent up. The other ladies held a tarp over my tent as set it up but I still had water in it. I hung my bear bag in the rain. In my tent that night as I was wiping out water, I thought I still love backpacking! But I was there in the summer and only on a two night trip. We canceled a three night trip this week because of the incoming rain and snow. I wish I was as tough as you! You are such an inspiration! Your positive attitude makes it seem easy but I know it is not!! I worry about you getting wet, especially your shoes. I know it takes a long time for your clothes and shoes to dry and you will be putting them on wet in the morning. Praying g for your safety and comfort ! I’ve only ‘slept’ in a shelter once and kept my shirt over my head the whole time I was so afraid of the mice. I understand, didn’t sleep either. 🙏🏕🌲🥾
Really nice video of a really tough day! LOL! So glad to see your wonderful smile at the end of the day. Still a tough lady! As always, thanks for sharing.
You just keep on trucking 👍As Dixie said to you, one step followed by another will get you to Maine! My wife is interested to see more of what you are eating at night/lunch/breakfast? Keep being positive ❤️👍
You were correct, that was lichen, along with the moss. :-) Lichen is so cool because it’s actually two organisms living together, algae and fungi, The fungi offers a vital structure for the algae that is feeding the fungi. It’s so awful when you can’t sleep and are seeing every hour. I completely understand the desire to repel the mice right now more than to not attract the bears. Still impressed with how beautifully you are weathering the weather… and that you’re already doing such big miles while also making it into camp early! You’re a beast!!! Nobody mess with Keena!
The biggest gifts are often on those rainy, dreary days when most hikers have retreated to town. You are experiencing the trail in all its forms, and you will be grateful that you did. Well done Throttle! 🤘🕓
It probably makes you appreciate the dry sunny days that much more! Days like the way this one started off have to test you mentally. Can't imagine waking up a bit tired, sore, and chilly to know your embarking out into the rain for hours. Way to stay tough Throttle. Much respect to you!
Keep going chick! You got this! It is a major thing you are doing here girl and it has to be super hard! You are doing awesome! Keep putting one foot in front of the other all the way to Maine! You got this! Keep rocking!! #throttleon
That scarecrow type thing near the graveyard would not have funny at all if you walked by it at night 🤣 Out of the 20 something hikers I’m keeping up with. You are the furtherest north. Jay Wanders Out in the next one behind you that I’m watching… Hopefully you will have sunny ☀️ days ahead… Happy hiking 🥾
Really enjoying your videos. thanks for sharing. I've spent a lot a nights in shelters. The first time I didn't sleep at all waiting for a mouse to run across my face. LOL I've found the ear plugs help filter out those little night noises. Once at the Bryant Ridge shelter I woke with mice running all over my bag. The only time that's happened. You finally get to the realization that things are what they are and just go back to sleep. I hope your shelter experiences improve - Evo
First off , I absolutely love following your journey, you are kicking trail ! I’m a AT 2021 thru hiker and one thing I learned pretty quick was to avoid sleeping in shelters. Not only because of the critters but I wasn’t getting enough sleep. Even though it’s convenient to plop down in a shelter instead of setting up your tent , i recommend you avoid shelters and do more stealth camping. You will NOT have to worry about critters and you’ll sleep much better. Just a suggestion, hike your hike lady. You are rocking it ! Smiles for miles !!!! 😎👊🏼
I also wore waterproof midtop boots until Uncle Johnny's hostel. I threw them in the trash and have never worn waterproof again. When it's time to change shoes, or even before it's time, go to non waterproof shoes. It will change your hike. 🤘🕓
Sounds like you might be a bit dehydrated. I know that sounds silly hiking in the rain, but your symptoms point to that. Double up on water and consider electrolyte supplements if you aren’t using them. Good luck and THROTTLE ON!
I really like all your videos but especially loved this one. I really liked all the extra information and just the thoughts that, you shared when you got to the shelter. I plan to hike it in 2023 and I’m just soaking up everything I can. Know that we are out there and routing for you every step of the way!
That widow maker you walked under was awesome, your rambling was awesome. Those dear looked so mystical, wonder if they were ghosts of the graves??? If you want an interesting conversation you have no choice but to talk to yourself🤪. We call eating like you do during the day grazing. David has been a Type 1 Diabetic since he was 6(1963) and to maintain his blood sugar he grazes all day…lol. Imagine coming up on that thing while night hiking 😱. If it were easy anyone could do it!!! You are amazing Throttle, and we enjoy your video’s. BTW…Waterproof is a lie😱. They say the critters are more afraid of you than you are of them…we seriously doubt that🤪…sorry that I rambled but we really enjoyed this video. David likes rainy weather hiking and riding motorcycles 🌧☔️. Stay warm & dry.
I literally spewed on my phone when you said “If he ( voodoo creature) starts talking I’m outta here .” You just never know what you will happen up on. Love your videos and how positive you are . Stay safe .
Like the quote your mom gave you from Rocky there is a Buddhist saying that goes "Fall down seven times, get back up eight." This is your journey, may you enjoy every moment because you are creating your stories of The Trail each day. I thank you for sharing your thoughts with us the hard and the good. I enjoy hearing people giggle and laugh and the things you find that amuse you amuses us all. You are doing great.
My SO is an Ironman racer. She assures me that every time she competes, there will be half a dozen moments when she is ready to say "screw this, I quit", and even starts inventing a story in her head which explains why she just couldn't keep going and dropping out was a good decision. She has never given up. You are going to have moments like that - maybe a lot of them - on the trail. By all means, gripe, pout, and feel sorry for yourself as necessary when things are not going well. Then put one foot in front of the other. You got this.
Following your journey on youtube..helps me virtually hike the A.T. ...since I don't have the opportunity or resources to hike it at the present time..enjoyed all the videos so far..good luck, enjoy your hike!!!
Loved the vlog, loved your humor all mixed in with you being real and honest. It is hard and not all sunshine for sure. Your a trooper! Happy trails even if they are rainy and windy
You had a very challenging day, yet you continued to put one foot in front of the other one, and smile! Your soothing positive attitude is soooo inspirational! Even though the weather was not good, the forest, fog, clouds, leaves look so beautiful and like a dream. Sometimes it just didn’t look real to me! Even in that challenging weather, nature is so beautiful! Thank you for taking us along with you! I hope you are feeling better, and I am praying for your continued good health & safety. Oh, the deer were BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!
You Go Rocket ! (girl rocky). The Sheltons were probably scared of you, Crazy Lady with umbrella talking to nobody. Those Ghost probably ran away. Lovely fog deer shot, beautiful. The green grassy like stuff is moss. The beard in the branches, grey / Orange / black / thin rough patchy stuff is lichen (on trees and rocks).
I noticed on the trail map that when you visited the Shelton Graves that you walked west from TN to NC. Kind of a geographical oddity. I love your spirit and positive attitude and enjoy following your hike.
As others have stated, this is an excellent video. The comments you made on your struggles and thoughts of being on the trail on such a challenging day were very meaningful. A stream of consciousness on the day.
Bless your heart, you sure have been hitting a lot of rain and cold, but you sure are a trooper! There will be Greater days ahead of you so keep pressing forward and I'm always praying for you. Happy Trails!!
300 calorie protein bar isn't much, considering that you are probably expending at least 3000 calories a day. You need to eat better at lunch, plus the snacks and make sure you are getting enough hydration.
Wow you've so got this. I only realized in this video that they are behind so hopefully you are in better weather now and the week is sunny. Happy trails. I am so enjoying following your journey. You've got this.
You are one tough lady. Thanks for the reality check for me. I heard rodents do not come around Irish Spring soap. Hope you stay dry and warm tomorrow. May you have blessed nights throughout the AT.
I am so encouraged by your posts - even as you obviously are feeling the rigors and stress of the trail. Thanks for being “real” in the midst. I’ve read that leaving in March means a crowd, but you seem to be solo-hiking, and you spend the evenings alone (for the most part) in the shelters. Are you seeing people on the trail? Oh! And you answered my question from yesterday, you DO have micro spikes. Throttle on!
I recommend the Super Cookie Crunch Metrx 32-gram protein meal replacement bar. One of those and some trail mix will keep you going, and you won't be thinking about how hungry you are.
Regarding your difficulty sleeping: would you consider a hammock? There is a bit of a learning curve to it and, of course different gear but, it’s very comfortable once you get the “hang”of it. Seriously, I never worry about rodents or nasty shelters and sleep like a baby through the night.
You’ve had such a wet and hard day but you have stayed positive! 😊😊 Love the little angel and the ladder. 😇 Gee finding that grave yard on the trail and that spooky face. 🤯😱 Things will be so much better when you see your family and that hotel with a warm bed!! You will be in heaven. 😊😊 One step at a time!! You are doing great! Hang in there! 😊❤️🙏
you have some nice sections just ahead. I guess where I think you'll end up in next video and it's hard to guess. better calorie up for these cold long days
You are rocking it!!!! Sunny days make it all so much easier! It’s so hard when you are wet and cold to the bone. I hope the weather turns around for you soon. It’s 70 here in southern missouri today 3/1
Often times when you're cold it's due to dehydration or a lack of calories. I've found that chocolate warms me up when I'm cold. I always carry it with me skiing and/or climbing.
Warm thoughts Coming your way. You are much braver than I would be for sure. Be safe and love the videos. You need a hotel rest for a couple of days, take your vitiamin C

Keep going! We're all watching you reach your goals everyday! Stay strong and shine (even in the fog!) Your rockin it!

I finally caught up with you. It is great to see you are having so much success!
You are right. It is so hard to get everything into balance but just keep on rebalancing as needed
You have a very good attitude. Your not alone all of us I hiking with you.

My thoughts exactly. Dehydrated.
You share a birthday with my son! It's also Canada day!
If I watch enough of these videos throughout the years,.......can I consider it a thru hike for myself???
I’ve watched so many I think yeah!! 👊🏻

Garmin user here - when under tree cover, give Garmin time to find signal; it will eventually send/receive anything queued.

Those little orange salamanders always looked like gummy candy when I got hungry out there 🤫
I didn’t hear that as negative…I laughed. Sometimes you have to embrace the suck…it is what it is.
PS…80’s is warm…not 50’s. 🤣🤣
How did you say “big butt and maybe little butt” with a straight face 😂…you’re doing so great pressing on through that weather. Very cool scenery too
You got this!! You are doing it girl! Every breath, every step counts…especially the soggy cold steps!!! Keep your head up! We are cheering you on!!!
I’m really enjoying your vlogs. You stop and look at the same kinds of things that fascinate me on the trail. Thank you for sharing and good luck!

That trail looks magical in the fog. I love the moss, rocks and cool trees. The deer in the fog. Really beautiful. I hope you feel much better by now.

As thru hikers we deal with 2 things!!! Rainy days and the days before rainy days 🤣. Keep on truckin!!
Hoping for better weather. You are amazing. I hope you enjoyed your night off of the trail.
Good video with some good views, nice water fall, 2 deers 🦌, so let's keep on hiking
Your positive outlook is amazing. Be safe and God Bless.
Good job so far! A tent is warmer to sleep inside than a shelter[3-sided], and there are no mice/bugs to worry about.
Hang in there, girl!!! We are all behind you! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. :-)
Beautiful hiking. Hope you feel better. Keep a moving.

I actually have a hammock.. just wasn’t sure how hard it would be on trail.
@@KNAOutdoors2022 Dixie has done some vlogs about hammocks vs tents.
