As an ispiration for the Iron mining mountain you can have a look at the Erzberg(which translates to Ore Mountain in English) which is located in Styria Austria. It looks amazing!
There is something so comforting about the Pad sound and "well hello people".... one of my top 3 favorite subscriptions, feels like I'm right at home every time I hear this sound come over the speakers.. Love the network content, it is not boring.. really helpful actually.... its one of my biggest nightmares to do in my own cities
Having a nature reserve around the rural towns on the new land could be a nice touch. Some of the area is rather hilly and could fit quite well for this idea. With all the rivers open I actually think a small ferry system along the waterways could be very fun. I dunno how well the ferries work on small rivers though....
Hey Egg, train driver here! Tighter curves are perfectly acceptable in yards and at junctions. Trains can navigate smaller curves, it's just that the game is crap at making them go slow enough to look feasible.
Your gradients are very very good too. Trains can handle steeper grades than that if they need to, but with that much space it's best to give them the smooth gradients that you created.
25:53 The bike gang can easily be please by creating a proper bike path **OFF** the six lane road! (Would you personally like to cycle on the six lane road?) You have more than enough space to build bike infrastructure. Just make sure it is as interconnected as your roads.
Eggs detailing skills are on a whole different level. I get constantly stuck in the trap of seeing blank space and thinking "Gee, better fill that with some complex/capacity" without letting landscape come into the conversation. Good job!
I don't feel the network stuff is boring at all. It is an important part of a city that allows it to flow, and function as one big unit if done right. I'm still here. Enjoying every episode. Sadly I missed last Livestream, but I won't miss the next :P
It’ll be great to see you use all the new content! Going for a bold choice but maybe a satellite campus to the current one could go in the big chunk of land. Maybe with the justification that it’s there to help train up the ore workers
39:25 hey egg great episode. Fence police here. These giant sweeps in fence here seem a bit unrealistic. Straight lines and angles probably to reflect the parcel of land it’s on. PS can fence police an hq too thanks
That's some really nice networking, I enjoy such stuff every once in a while. It's actually quite nice that the rail interchange does not provide interconnectivity into all directions, but really only those that make sense where outside trains will run. Can't wait to see how you're going to use the new industry assets in orchid bay.
Dude, I love your videos. And with minimal effort you could do so much more. For example you completely cut off your industrial area from pedestrian, bike and public transport access. How do you expect your workers to get to work? Flying? Your train network facilitates cargo exchange with the "outside world", but not _within_ the city. This forces more trucks on the road. Just make your tracks bi-directional. Ore is best transported by train. Build the ore industry area with a cargo train hub in mind, where the ore from the mines (inside or outside the map) will arrive. I really hope you contribute to the effort of showing that car dependency is not inevitable. Anyway, consider my subscribed. Your videos rock!
not sure if this gets fixed in a later episode, but as far as i could tell, there was no way for cargo trains to enter the one-way network from the downtown direction. they could only come from the airport and out-of-map directions. you would need a big sweeping 180 degree curve cutting straight through the ore mining facility to allow that connection
Once you get way out and up, how about a mountain community with hunting and camping getaways? Mountain towns that service outdoor activities (think Adirondack towns in Upstate NY) 😊
Not sure when this was recorded so you might know this already but the dead bodies arent being collected from warehouses set to ‘empty’, I think its being fixed in the upcoming patch
just watched reviews from various youtubers of the new DLCs. With the expansion to 25 tiles, three ideas spring to mind, it may seem a waste but a lot of tha forest and river front is asking to be turned into giant wild life park, lots of gravel tracks, cabins and outdoor hotels but left pristine. The sub communities in Orchid Bay have gotten along and have integrated together very well so far. But, with Orchid Bay's expansion it's going to run into some Mortal Engines style encroachment into other established towns. Combining the new industrial and Brooklyn and Queens DLCs an old industrial town can be created, one with wierd choices which made sense at the time, such as the only public transport options are either trains or trolley buses, with a heritage line using a vintage bus, and whilst Orchid Bay has been all about vistas, open spaces, walkability and livability, the old industrial city is about rigid grids, repeated patterns in the placement of services. There's a hard edge the town is a square has built out to the limits of their city charter; and becausr they refuse to change their trolley bus system, and they refuse to allow outside bus companies to run buses into their town, there are transport plazas where everyone gets of their trolleybus and onto another form of transport to go elsewhere in the greater bay area. The reason why Orchid Bay's original Amusement Park is so run down is because it is competing against a Megacorporation who have finagled themselves a town charter, basically EPCOT as originally envisioned.
So many cool things coming for Orchid Bay. And yes, I think some play on Ore-Kid's Bay is in ore-der. I've heard the Ore Kid is the mafia boss on that side of the tracks.
The open space could be a retail park like what you find here in the UK. Not a posh shopping centre, something with a massive supermarket (not sure if you can do it in vanilla), and like furniture shops and a B&M bargains etc. All the shops surround a mass car park. Usually fits in well with industrial zones
Another great episode Egg! Networking is very interesting to watch in action TBH, I've learned quite a lot just from watching you work on networks alone, not to mention the rest of your builds. Thanks again for the great content! Keep it up! City is looking great!!
I find it very enjoyable to see how Egg thinks out his networking. I think this industrial area is going to look splendid, especially with the gorgeous new CCP assets.
I think its very valuable for you to take the time to make a great interchange (tedious it may be) without mods. Your trumpet was beautiful and an example to all the console players (PC here) that it can and should be done. Just takes practice.
Wow this video has probably set off a chain reaction of videos (cannot wait!) For that empty space between the train and new highway. Maybe put in a nuclear complex or a unique factory as you were saying. Thinking of the soft paper factory in noob yolk! As for a cargo airport im not sure under the flight path of the regional is the best option! Perhaps expand the regional or do it out by the green cites rural suburb. God that was a long time ago! Great video cannot wait for trolley bus shenanigans!
You really need to pay more attention to your service building zoning coverage, that can cause all kinds of issues with game-play, as you saw during the recent live stream when you adjusted the sliders. That is also part of the reason your residential demand is sky high. As for the warehouses, try adjusting to balanced or full and see if that effects the dead bodies being picked up. The placement of the fire helicopter depot is not very effective as it is nowhere near a body of water, which is required to fill the buckets. This will really increase response time and allow fires to spread more aggressively. I realize that you are going more for aesthetics, but you still need to keep game-play mechanics in mind for your city to function properly!
25 tiles are here! Great build, as always. :) Great train and road infrastructure building. I was wondering regarding the warehouses with the death care problems that maybe the game reads some connection problem? Maybe redrawing the roads? Or it reads some as one way that it shouldn't? Or a node is somehow causing problems there? Is there other traffic going through those roads to and from the warehouses at all? And, sorry, if this breaks the lore. :)
I love watching your build and your layout is amazing. I'd love to have your city just to sit there and watching it live. One thing I feel many Skyline builders do though is the overuse of fences and bushes for dividing everything off. I don't understand the appeal. Oh, and those big boulders. LOL Way overused.
EGG OMG THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING THE TRAIN BACKUP FIX. I have been building a long with you at a much slower pace, I'm only on episode 18, but I keep having to clear train traffic because it kept backing up to the very first train station we made but I was not sure if it was being caused by the station itself or not. It's been driving me crazy! I will attempt to fix this tonight and see what happens. Edit: You mentioned a link to see the train backup fix, but I do not see it. Could you please add it? Thank you! Edit 2: I figured it out and my trains are flowing!!!!!!!!!
Egg, could you please use another texturepack or light filter. your city could be so much prettier than this vanilla style. love the series! greatings from the Netherlands.
might be nice to have some low income housing near the trumpet interchange- right by the airport/industry might not be the nicest place to live but it is realistic
I wasn’t going to watch the stream (because it’s usually just doing one little park area) but the amusement park looks nice so I’m gonna check it out now lol
Hello. Thanks OE for another amazing series that I'm dying to try.I haven't played Cities Skyline in ages. When I have now started again, something must have happened to the game. I have everything in my library on Steam but when I play I can't find what I want. So my question is how can I re-download what is in my library again. Hope there is someone who can help an old lady of 62 years. lol.
When in your library right click the game you want to install and click install. It will ask what storage drive you want to install the game onto. I suggest the Solid State drive if you have one. Steam will then promt you through several "next" steps and the game will begin to install. Hope that helps!
A thousand ❤ thanks for the reply. When I look at the page where you can buy various. packs and games for Cities Skyline. Then it says that they are fine in libraries. But I don't see any link to my library where the games are located. What happens if I delete all folders from steam that I have on my computer and reinstall it again? Now I'm done with the first episode. What is the name of the next one? Ambjørg Therese

it's episodes like these that really remind me of how beautiful the Orchid Bay map is. Those foothills under the mountains? gorgeous!
True! Sidai did a wonderful job!
At some point, you should make a big container port on the outskirts of the city. OR a big central train station for the city
Eggs detailing skills are on a whole different level. I get constantly stuck in the trap of seeing blank space and thinking "Gee, better fill that with some complex/capacity" without letting landscape come into the conversation. Good job!
Same! That combination of overgrowth + large tree + a couple (small trees + rocks) is just good. Yes, please.

@44:00 A full car factory would be kool, with all accompanying resources.
The open space should be a micro brewery. Perhaps a cider brewery "Orchid's Orchard's Orginal"
Maybe toss a new hotel next to it as well and an apple you pick?
There’s a cider brand here in the US called “Angry Orchard.” So how about “Angry Orchid?”
Lovely terrain work, super smooth!
It’ll be great to see you use all the new content! Going for a bold choice but maybe a satellite campus to the current one could go in the big chunk of land. Maybe with the justification that it’s there to help train up the ore workers
You should set up a lot of ferries around the map now that you have all the space + the downtown is built out a bit

Putting maga tansit hubs at or near the edge of the city would be interesting.
More transit hubs will come with the towns that lay there :)
A big shopping mall in between the interchange and the train line in the big green empy area would be nice and quite realistic in my opinion.
not sure if this gets fixed in a later episode, but as far as i could tell, there was no way for cargo trains to enter the one-way network from the downtown direction. they could only come from the airport and out-of-map directions. you would need a big sweeping 180 degree curve cutting straight through the ore mining facility to allow that connection
I do love me some network egg. Looking great. Can't wait for the new industrial work next episode, too
Once you get way out and up, how about a mountain community with hunting and camping getaways? Mountain towns that service outdoor activities (think Adirondack towns in Upstate NY) 😊
Sounds good! One of the new hotels will work nicely there :)
So excited to see the mining industry continue to develop
if I could make a suggestion, maybe a rural town coming into Orchard Bay
Man that backdrop with the mountains is 🔥.
Always get excited when I get an Eggification. Instead of notification..... 🤣
Another great episode again sir! Maybe in the large empty space you could do a sports park using one the newer assets that you haven't used yet?
Not sure when this was recorded so you might know this already but the dead bodies arent being collected from warehouses set to ‘empty’, I think its being fixed in the upcoming patch
