Nice PC for the business users. Camera and mics are good. Display is good. Port selection is good although they should have put one of the USB-C ports on the other side. Battery life is good for the business user traveling on planes etc. Great review as always.

I am struggling to decide between Dell XPS 15 and X1 Carbon (Gen 11). I would be primarily using for casual and learning purpose (cyber security, so running multiple Virtual machines, netork security, pen testing and for those stuff). and I would like to use for really long time like 5 Years. which laptop would you segest out of the two. Also, is easy to get used to the ctrl key as its differently placed from my work laptop. Thank you.

Just got my X1 Gen10 with Intel i7 1260p and 32GB of RAM.
What a delicious machine… It works so well.
I used to think Apple laptops where the “greatest” to the touch… well, they are great for sure, but the X1 is even better! I feel like touching a U2 Dragon Lady or a Lockheed SR71 XD
It’s super light , but at the same time, it feels VERY premium, durable and robust.
The keyboard is outstanding. We all know that.
It never gets hot, no matter how many hours (not on heavy work) I use it. It stays mildly warm and that’s it.
AMAZING machine… Just gotta keep it up to date and it will run like a fine Swiss watch.
Thank you , Andrew..! You helped me to make the right choice (at least for my needs). I’m totally satisfied with this buy!
    Greetings from Chile, friend!

@@marvij200 Hi José! I friend of mine that works for Lenovo bought it for me. Please consider that we live in Chile… probably different market, different stock. When I decided to get my X1, the website said they had one or two in stock. Mine has a 1920x1200 (touch) IPS screen and I love it... It’s not “wow!” but it surely enough. I believe it’s going to take a few more months for us to see the Gen11 available to the public.

I agree! This laptop has the best feel in the hands. I have a gen 10 i5 with the 2.8k. Had a MacBook Pro 14 m1, also a very premium feel, but I think I prefer the soft touch of the Thinkpad. The Mac still has sharp edges when resting your wrist.

Another excellent laptop review from the one and only AMD! There is a lot to like regarding the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11 for 2023, however not without it's negatives. What stands out for me is the great battery life, decent port selection, the crisp 1080p webcam and very clear internal mics. For a Windows laptop, the audio quality of the built-in speakers is pretty good but no comparison to the MacBook Pro. Aside from the negatives, this is a worthy product for the business professional which will get the job done at the end of the day. Brilliant review Andrew!! 👍😁

Excellent review Andrew, I really share your enthisiasm for this laptop series.
Writing this on an X1C Gen 11, i7 1355U 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and 2.8K OLED. I must say I am getting nowhere near the battery life numbers you were getting in the test it is approaching I'd say half of what you acheieved.
Do you think this difference is all mediated by the difference in our screen options alone? It must be as that is the only sig. difference between our units. I also find the top left hand corner of the laptop does run hot tith loud fans typically when plugged in and under load (I often switch to best energy effiency to stop this happen).

I have a gen 7. Some issues I had was the known "battery not detected" issue Lenovos have. I had to unplug the battery and plug it back in. Also the trackpad suddenly stopped working, and I had to press it down to solve the issue (also known lenovo issue). The laptop does run hot when plugged in (like most thin and light laptops).
I like the lightweight, battery life, keyboard, and durability. I do not like the price for what you get (got mine from Costco for $1299 when lenovo had it $1600+), the built quality can be better, newer models are pretty much the same as the 7 gen. I do recommend this laptop if you can buy it at a good price. Don't think of it much as a "business" laptop. It is a laptop like the Dell xps and other thin and light laptops. It is not a workstation like the P series.

This seems a good portable portion of a more powerful desktop solution. With external monitors, blue-toothed peripherals (Logitech MX keys keyboard and MX Master 3 mouse) and a CalDigit TS3 thunderbolt dock, I am wondering if an eGPU might make this a viable option for occasional desktop video editing and multiplexing. Does this sound like a rational approach - and if so, do you have a suggested eGPU?

    • @matthewjchung
      @matthewjchung Год назад +16

I’d agree that it’s expensive, but I wouldn’t consider it overpriced when compared to other premium built thin-and-lights. As someone who uses both MacBooks and Thinkpads, I’m in the market for a 14”-15”, sub-1.5kg laptop.
I’ve specced my X1 Carbon with an i7, 32gb ram, 1400p IPS, 5-year warranty, and 5G WWAN. With the current promotion Lenovo is running, it’s $200 cheaper than the new MacBook Air 15 while being comparable in performance, and you get double the ram, 2 more years of warranty, and 5G. And if I wait for a sale or a coupon to drop, I could widen that price gap even further.
Again, not cheap. It’s a premium laptop. But I wouldn’t call it crazy expensive, considering what you get. There’s nothing else with the same build quality, keyboard quality, and weight-to-performance ratio at that price.
The only other competition in the PC space that comes close are the LG Gram, Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro and HP Elite series, but those are even more expensive than the X1 when you spec them with 13th gen i7 and 32gb ram. And all of them have worse keyboards and no 5G options.

I have heard that the max ram for x1 nano gen 3 is only 16 gb instead of gen 2s 32 gb ,
I don't know why Lenovo did this but this is not enough in 2023

They are always tinkering on what could possibly be better or even be the best....either they doing all this on purpose or they are seriously fools...
Fooling us with their innovations but bad build quality inside like thermal issues, etc ..then again its all about business, making money quickly but never even bothering to understand the customers complaints seriously...
      Truly sad..

I had a gen 7, and it has the same flaws as this one. The headphone jack has to be on the other side, otherwise is a struggle when you an external mouse. The fan exhaust/intake cannot be on the bottom, because you cannot keep the laptop on your legs otherwise. The mousepad is still atrocious, with the two buttons, which make it so outdated. The support for Linux has to be verified, but probably sucks. Two things used to be, and still are, great: keyboard and weight. Overall build construction is very good, but I won't buy it.

Using Thinkpad gen 9 and they looking the same nothing changed only the cpu, i have the most premium model 32gb ram with carbon fiber on the back, and i have to say this laptop is very expensive and not worth it, very poor battery life and the trackpad is just a horrible, and get hot so easy, i really regret selling my Huawei matebook x pro fantastic battery almost triple what i get now and the trackpad was very much better and bigger even the build quality was premium than Thinkpad, a honest advice don't buy this laptop look for other options much cheaper.

What a shame. Everything is soldered, keyboard has smaller travelling distance. Remove trackpoint and ports, and you'll get a generic laptop with Thinkpad shield.
    Lenovo killed the brand literally.

I have gen 5 with max 16gb at that time and its still going good five years on. Whats disappointing is that nothing has changed in 5 years from levovo innovation perspective. You get the cpu and audio etc from oem components buy otherwise not much change. I was hoping at the least they do away with audio jack and add another usbc and bring the weight down by a notch.

Lenovo sticking with Intel for these thin and mobile machines is borderline idiotic. As a Lenovo aficionado, I realize time and time again how retrograde this company is.

This guy is a lier or he is not doing his review well. This keyboard is not the typical X1, it reminds me a lot to the ugly mac keyboard which was released and discontinued a few years ago. Not a pleasure typing on it.
