Only if I couldn't afford a new light all together. Having a pre-set streaming area is very nice especially when you are new and are bumbling through so many unexpected technical problems.
No, I'd still prefer a large studio light and another on-the-go light. The elgato software control is an awesome plus for these, but I really like the Pixel G1S lights for on-the-go at nearly half the price and they have full RGB spectrum (not quite as diffused out-the-box as this though).
100% yes. I'm tired of unplugging everything under my desk, move it somewhere else while also changing heights of my ring lights and redo the settings 😅
I make origami tutorials and do origami streams with varying sizes of paper. So this use case actually fits perfect for me to move my cameras and lights around to different parts of my studio
This might just be when I pull the trigger on a key light. Never cared for the larger size ones because I didn’t need too much light! But the smaller form factor seems right up my alley
I was looking at the Ulanzi cube lights, small enough that you can put them anywhere you need an accent light, waterproof and rechargeable via USB C, for like $30 on Amazon.
5:00 One possible use at the desk (and what i am personally ordering this for) is for green screen setups. Sometimes for reasons, I need to use the green screen. However, it can difficult to get even lighting on the green screen when it is too close to my back. A light like that can be secured to the back of your chair and used to illuminate the green screen in the areas your primary lights may not be able to reach.
exactly what i'd use these for (light greenscreen better) just be carful with how close it is to your greenscreen because you'll create a hotspot making it not key properly
That's the size of the Neewer "off brand" key lights I use now, $35 for the pair and I've had them for 4 years, they work perfectly. Depending on the price, I may grab a couple of these for the Stream Deck control...
The neewer are actually brighter but don't have the temp control. It would be nice to have a portable rechargeable light but I think I'd go aputure rather than this. This doesn't look very heavy duty.
Im trying to reduce the clutter on my desk, if these new keylight minis are as bright as you say they are, i may add a couple and remove my big keylight. This year is a good year for simplicity what with beacn products as well, I'm liking the direction this is all going in.
Quick PSA: if you're interested in Elgato clamps and mounts, please check out Smallrig accessories. They are far more versatile and you'll be futureproofing for a filming rig in case you decide to go that route. Not that there's anything wrong with Elgato, but Smallrig is pretty much the golden standard when it comes to these.
The smaller one will be great for when i travel since it's small enough and battery powered so I don't have to mess with as many cords when i try to setup at hotels
I mean elgato makes excellent products, but there are lights out there that do exactly the same and MORE for Less cash. Apurture MC has full color range, with multiple different scene settings, an app to control the light, magnets on the back to mount it to (virtually) anywhere, it's smaller, comes with a light diffuser, can link up with multiple other Apurture MC lights and is able to wirelessly charge in a case if you have multiple lights. This is light is nice, but it's just a smaller, portable Elgato Keylight. *shrugs* Love the channel.
People pretty much pay more just to be able to connect them to their stream decks. To the extent that even people without stream decks get them since their favorite content creators all use them.
They are out of their MINDS charging that much for this. I bought TWO neewer photography lights, with stands, and they have a dimmer for less than the price for one of these. I use them for my green screen. Also bought 2 neewer "video conference" lights that are about the same price as this and they came with articulating stands, and they dim, they cost 48 bucks for TWO of them. Elgato is charging way too much for their lights and people are falling for it. This is coming from someone who bought and uses the wave3 and stream deck.
It’s because people will just buy Elgato because it’s Elgato at this point. $100 is ridiculous and I’m sure we will see a similar product for less money
Whoa, This Key light (air) mini is very well thought out. It adds all of the features I felt were lacking from the Key light and Key light air. I would have loved to have atleast hardware control on the regular ones too, atleast to adjust brightness. Had they released this earlier I may have bought this over the Air if i'm honest
I see a great use case for this, lighting my greenscreen better. I have proper lighting but i also use colored lights that bounce off the greenscreen and (very minimally) there are times it has an issue with the chromakeying, i bought some $40 usb amazon lights to light the greenscreen more and it solved my issue, only prob is they aren't wireless/cant be controlled from an app or pc. Having these in the elgato ecosystem i already have built would be an awesome addition (i know my use case is unique and not the norm) Just wish these were released before I got the amazon ones xD
This seems perfect for my home setup. I have an Elgato Keylight as my Key and was debating on the Air as my fill but the footprint is too large for a fill light. This is the perfect solution with streamdeck control.

The only way this makes sense to me as a "keylight" is on top of a camera for vlogging. For a studio setup as secondary light to weaken some shadows maybe.
It would be great for my stand setup I'm working on. I already own the flex arm so just slapping that on instead of getting the key light like I wanted would be nice. Price could be a bit cheaper so I'll likely pick it up on sale BUT it's a better option than my neewer. Maybe I got the shitty neewer light but it runs out of battery quick, even tho I always use it on low setting, and the battery barely holds a charge. It's so pointless. Not sure where everyone is getting the idea that getting a neewer light is worth it, but y'all do you. I'm sticking with Elgato.
Anything this small, convenient, powerful, and battery powered is something I need for my camera kit. I'll probably be buying two of these in the near future.

Otherwise if you are just an up and coming streamer/content creator, you're looking at spending a TON of money to get in to the Elgato ecosystem. Money that up and comers usually don't have.
I would actually disagree with one thing. Those who are looking for the key light air but needing to save money where they can this option is currently $50 cheaper and if you start with this and grow forward you can later have a secondary light that syncs well with the rest
Can you use it while its USB powered? Used to have a battery powered one that ended up running out of power mid meetings. Having a portable one is super useful for being able to get good lighting for photos, so that’s a plus side to this.
I can say I think I would EASILY grab the Key Light mini for my stream, as one key light air isn't enough, but two might be too much for my current setup. But an air and a mini? Might be perfect.
Thanks for this, yes like these shorter videos too. I think the key light mini could find a good use case particularly using the cold shoe on top of a camera. - Is there are release date for the extra accessories showcased towards the end of the video?
Not for me. It’s too close in price to the Boling P1 that I use almost daily. P1 is really bright and does RGB as well and has a great built in 360 arm for easy adjustment.

This looks really great to use as a backlight.. So like you can put it on the floor behind you pointing up. Or maybe even on a piece of furniture pointing up.. It will light up your green screen or whatever is behind you.. I don't notice anywhere to connect it to a stand or something? This could replace the original Key Light or Key Light Air as I have two OG Key Lights and they are SO BRIGHT that I literally have to turn it down to like 20-40% brightness to effectively not blow my face out. Pewdiepie mentioned the Key Light on his setup tour video and said that Pokimane had said to put it facing the back wall, which I guess if it's white it will diffuse the light and make it a bit better but if you can just turn the brightness down that works just as well IMO. However, having the light face away from you vs. shining bright ass light in your face ... I've noticed having lights in your face is not the best thing for gaming and it really is not great for eyes either so .. that might be cool. So it does have it a 1/4 inch screw hole. Easy to unscrew and then charge it when you need to. Honestly the big one is way too big for most setups IMO and WAY too bright.
