  • www.bulkreefsup... In our first episode of the coral propagation series we going to show how to propagate the RBTA rose bubbletip anemone rather than an actual coral. This can not only be a profitable endeavor but you can also help reduce reliance on wild caught anemones and reduction of clownfish habitat. It is possible to use your saltwater reef aquarium to do this at home.

    I did this on accident while trying to thin out pulsating xenias! I accidentally cut a rose bubble tip and it turned into 2, at the time I thought I killed it. I now have 4 beautiful rose bubble tips in my small reef tank, and now that I know how to propagate, you can bet I will be giving it a try. I love the idea of creating a sustainable supply of these critters so we can all continue to enjoy this hobby without the destruction of reefs... I also like having my tank pay for itself!

    Nice explanation, and a great advert for sustainability. I'm an Aquatic Zoologist living in the UK and quite new to RUclips and really enjoying some of your videos, well planned and to the point. This threw up a couple of slightly off topic questions though, if we're doing this as a sustainable hobby, which I think is great, why don't we use more man-made, simple biological filtration than liverock? The technology exists to replicate dead coral skeletons and their function, and we all know the benefits of live and dead-rock, made live. But it seems everything is about aesthetics. While there are some great companies out there selling eco friendly alternatives, and man made liverock. With sumps, refugiums and biomedia becoming more and more advanced, and our understanding of biological functions increasing every day, Why harvest liverock from the ocean at all? You've just shown how that simple media block with a huge surface area is perfectly adequate. (in this setup). But why not use a mass of this/similar in our sumps, canisters and other filter components. Use alternative bio friendly decor for display and abandon harvesting rock from the ocean all together? As reefers, we more often take more than we give back in our hobby, and more than we know. I'd love to see you guys attempt an "All sustainable reef" with various products on the market and show how hobbyists can do their best to be low impact, help our reefs recover, and keep our hobby alive for generations to come. Keep up the good work guys. Subscribed.

    But good video explanation. I wish I had this the first time I did this.

    Great video. I have 2 75 gallons sharing a large sump refugium. I figure it would not be a good idea to use one of the tanks as anemone propagation tank due to the chance an anemone death could spike the tank. Right? When one dies or is healing do they give off any toxic material? Thanks

Just not closing around or moving at all. I'm assuming they are just taking longer cuz of the bad cut. what's your advice here? I have photos I can send

    Great video! I'm looking to get a bubble tip before getting my pair of clowns. I was wondering how large you would want an anemone to be before splitting it? I would love to get one then spit it upon getting it home so I can start with 2. You said you can do this once per month, is there any way to tell how long it has been since it was last split?

    Can you get water from an established tank to start the tank immediately or should you cycle the tank for 3 months prior?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 года назад +1

      You're still going to need to cycle. The good bacteria will live on surfaces like rock and sand, so if you fill your tank from another tank, you're just starting your tank with dirty water

  • @wifeofnerd1
    @wifeofnerd1 12 лет назад

    You should probably mention that fragging anemones only works with E. quadricolors (BTA's) and H. magnificas (magnificas or ritteris). Any other clown anemone - including S. haddoni, S. gigantea, M. doreensis, H. crispa, and the others... you will kill the anemone. The difference is pretty basic - E. quad and H. magnifica reproduce in the wild by splitting, so they are more prepared to withstand the stress caused by fragging.
