I would say that anemones are extremely hardy. You're definitely right about them disliking change, but in my experience they tolerate a lot. Will they look happy when there are big fluctuations? Probably not. But the absolute abuse I have seen them handle is something else. I've seen an anemone survive as the last inhabitant in a fully neglected tank after my dad and stepmom divorced and he left the tank behind. The anemone had no tentacles, no color, and was a fraction of the former size, but it survived in a tank with off the chart nitrates, zero lighting and heat, minimal to no flow, and very dramatic fluctuations in salinity (she would only refill it when the water was so low that the display tank waterline went below the overflow and the sump started running dry and making noise, and she would fill it back up to the max fill line). I moved the anemone into my tank when I was house sitting for her, and it was recovering nicely I lost power during hurricane Idalia and the tank temperature got to high and I lost most of my lifestock. Even then, my personal anemone survived that.
@Ceres4S2D1 No, it never reproduced. It died during hurricane Idalia before it was able to fully recover. But it was nothing special. Just a clone of a standard green bubble tip.
@@zakarymcleod1850 But just a bit ago, you described it of remarkable capabilities of not dying in the extreme. I mean, I guess it's hard to think of its strengths when it died in the end, anyways, but imagine all of the revenue you could have drew in from it, if it hadn't.
@Ceres4S2D1 Nothing survived the hurricane except my other anemone and two clownfish. Zoas, leathers, xenia, the sick anemone, damselfish, 6 lined wrasse, snails, hermit crabs, emerald crabs, duncans, a skunk cleaner shrimp, and even my aiptasia and coraline algae didn't survive. It got over 90 degrees F in the tank with no light or flow and just an airstone for oxygen. I'd say that doesn't take away from the one individual's strength, especially since one of the only survivors was also an anemone.
I just set up the same 14g peninsula to be a euphy / clown pair tank and my 1st, 2nd and 3rd thought was wow, the return pump is really powerful for this tank. So much so that even on the lowest pump setting the water level in the main display is very near the overflow level and the adjustable riser is unusable beyond the lowest setting. Not a deal breaker though and I still really like this AIO. I have an RFG kit coming from Vivid Creative Aquatics and may look into a ball valve as well. Your AI Prime light settings were really helpful for me as a starting point. I searched far and wide for some guidance on intensity for this size tank. This video was really well done, as all your videos usually are, and a huge help to me. You’ve been an inspiration to me. Thanks a bunch!
This is an example of a high maintenance, high supplement, high cost nano tank. There are definitely more natural and cost effective ways to get into the saltwater aquarium hobby. I understand linking as many products as possible for sales. With all that said there is still a good amount of substance and information to take in. Thank you for sharing. I cant complaim too much seeing that i dont have any videos posted at all.
Damn I remember when you started your 52 weeks and called you out for being similar to BRS’s…now you’re killin it sponsored by them with tanks coming out of your ears lol 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
A great Tip to help your clown understand nems is to have a ipad show a video of a clown hosting a nem. I had a clown that didnt understand it and after showing him a vid during the evening(taped a ipad woth vid on repeat to the glass) he started the symbiosis ans never left the nem anymore!
I believe if you add the “directly to the anemone “ they could get stung as they haven’t had a chance to get the anemone get the mucus of the nem on their bodies
I got an RBT Anenome less than an inch big over a year ago...it split about 20 times now and is big and happy...I agree with everything else but not with not getting a small Anenome
I would recommend staying away from silversides and anemones because anemones do have the tendency to regurgitate them/spit them out as it can be too big for them so I always recommend shrimp
Question? So you finally able to keep anemone given that you have had problems before keeping anemone. If I’m not mistaken I think more than 10 anemones have died in your care?
I got an ADA 45P (9 ish gallons) with a rainbow bubbletip and two clowns. Its been about 4 weeks and they have not interacted with it. I was wondering what would be some cool ornamental inverts other then sexy shrimp which i could have and also i was thinking about adding another fish and wasn’t sure on what one
The info here is really great, thank you. A bit of feedback: the lingo is a bit much. "nems", "scape"? I was happy that you stopped being so hip after a bit.

Once question. I know that this set up is for this video but don't you think that considering that an anemone can grow up to 6.5 feet the set up is a bit small? I just wondering because I think this is the next project I want to build and maybe a bigger tank is way better.
Honestly almost all my clownfish went into an anemone on their own. Few months back i got a new black storm and the moment i put it in the tank, it swam right into the nem lol. I also got a wyoming white and it too swam right into the nem. My previous clowns also went into the nems on their own quite fast. 2 hours from introduction into the tank and they’re in the nem already. The only time i had a clown not go into a nem on its own, i just put my hand into the tank and it scared the fish and then it went right into the nem.
2:38 no one mentions this, but the common clownfish in the hobby is VERY inbred. I would buy form a breeder that outcrosses their strains to ensure that the fish are genetically diverse and healthy. Even fish recently bred from wild caught clowns, or a mix between a wild clown and a strain would be good options.
Hi I am planning to set up a nano tank I really want to keep shrimps (cleaner shrimp, camel shrimp and sexy shrimp) I am just afraid that the clownfish will eat them May i know what your opinion on this thx (I am planning to get a common clown)
Curious I've seen people using these fake rubber sea anemone are those safe to your clownfish, angelfish or tangs would they pluck the tentacles off and get choked?
Hi I have a interesting question can I put two pairs of clownfish in the same tank? My first pair is original ocellaris orange white and second pair are ocellaris snowflake black and white I want to put them in a biocube 32 thanks
I see you put them in an acclimation box on side of your tank.Is this the better way to introduce the bta to a new tank. How long do you keep them in the box before you relaese them in your tank. The box is high in the tank what abouth the light?
Mine recovered from bleeching because it was hiding under a rock. Ather it looked so good. Now it does not. Look darker and brown. Can this be from to much light. My other bta looks great but he is closer to the bottom of the tank. Less light
Hi Matthew, quick question I want to get a reef tank and set it up as best I can to hit the ground running, is it OK to fit a skimmer and roller system on a fresh system? Sounds like maturing the system is key to sustaining stable level parameters so would you advise a dosing unit from the get go or after a few months of set up? 👍
get it all buddy, go nuts! you might not need to run it on 100% out of the gate but having it now is much better then trying to fit it into a wet tank. take your time for everything else Fish, corals, water par but getting all the equipment you need will be useful near your end game.
“We recommend captive bred fish because they come disease free” Well this is not even close to true. Ideally, yes, but not always the case. Great video nonetheless
I wish that my 20yr old clown pair would take to my rainbow bta's ,but instead they violently defend their sinularia home. It's like buying an expensive dog water dish and the dog prefers the toilet instead.
What kind of cleanup crew i can put in an anemone tank?Do they sting or kill snails. This would be nice vid because dont find any information abouth this
Snails and anemones can usually coexist peacefully. Trochus snails are one of our favorites because they can multiply in an aquarium environment and will flip themselves upright if they fall on their backs.
You know, we can't remember, but I bet it was starting with the AB+ schedule. Matthew also doesn't like his tanks super blue, so something around 12,000 Kelvin.
Light is the biggest factor, but some types of anemones can benefit from spot feedings too. If you do end up spot feeding, just use small foods as anemones have a very simple digestive system. They don't do a good job of digesting huge chunks and will usually end up spitting them out.
If you have a local reef club, it's worth checking with the members there too. So many reefers have them split and then try to find them new homes for the sake of room in their aquarium.
I tried this in our 75 gal Our 2 clownfish we got died of ich 3 days after we added them Then we got our green bta Rough ride It kept moving and rolling around not being happy We got 2 more clowns They died of idk what And then of corse while we're cleaning our anenomie guards on our powerheads the thangs decides to release Then go to the front and get sucked up into the current and get SrEdEd!!!!! lol you didn’t listen to a thing he said huh? He used live rock, water and sand from another healthy aquarium. If you set up a new aquarium this way, you do not need to cycle it.
@@Spazz2sick First of all, water carries very little beneficial bacteria so it's pointless to use water from another tank. Hi Matthew. What light color does BTA's thrive to? Blue or white? Make white higher than blue intensity?
Generally speaking, anemones tend to thrive in the same environment as corals, so blue light around 450-460 nm is the focus.
