To be fair to Tale of a Cruel World, I don’t think it was really aiming for an adventurous feel. The bells are the signature instrument of Calamity OST. The Leviathan Trilogy has a third song inbetween called "siren's warcry" which isnt on youtube for some reason.
Some things about the lyrics of both Stained Brutal Calamity and Roar of the Jungle Dragon: In Stained Brutal Calamity, each phase's lyrics represented a different point of view of the battle between you and Surpreme Calamitas. In Grief, it's Supreme Calamitas's point of view. In Lament, it's the Player's point of view, in Epiphany, it's the bystanders and watchers points of view, and in Acceptance, while it doesn't have lyrics, it's used in the end when you have finally defeated Supreme Calamitas and she forfeits from the battle. In Roar of the Jungle Dragon, the lyrics are from the perspective of the Jungle Dragon himself, Yharon. It's him pleading to his master, Yharim, that the player is becoming overwhelmingly powerful, and that he may die if he chooses to continue fighting, but that he is prepared for such a fate.
NO WAY these are actually so deep 😭 I think it is so cool and creative in Stained, Brutal Calamity to have different stages of perspectives for different sections, it tells a story there so unbelievably well, especially in acceptance. Roar of the Jungle Dragon I gathered it was from Yharon’s perspective but didn’t realise how emotional that is! DM DOKURO and this mod mod as a whole is truly something special

I like how you said how dm dokuro catches you off guard in many parts, but its even MORE fun and cool when you know its coming and thats why the songs get better the more you listen to them, and also i really like Toxic Wisdom because the trumpet is actually out of tune, and it uses microtones which makes it sound surreal and even beautiful.
Amazing video man! 2 things, the leviathan theme, the first part is about an unknown creature you encounter in the ocean (the siren), that is likely trying to catch your attention. And the three themes of "Hadopelagic Pressure, R'lyeh and Void" are themes of a scary underwater biome, called "The Abyss", that biome is almost all world depth, and its a very dangerous biome, with horrific creatures amd very reduced vision, literally getting pitch black at the bottom of the abyss, i think is the best biome of the whole mod, it's interesting, with nice progression, incredible ambience, and great enemies
Thank you mate! And also thanks for letting me know about the tracks. I can’t imagine how epic it would be to experience this in game! I also heard from another comment that all 3 of these themes share the same melody which is a really nice touch and just adds to the biome
@@_CJS Yeah bro, you should give terraria calamity a chance, it is very fun and it has variety of difficulties for new people, if you need an calamity's enthusiast, thats me B)

Q&A: What history do you have in music? (Also the end of stained brutal calamity kind of sounds like a cliffhanger because there is still another boss planned to be added after Calamitas called Yharim, which hasn’t been added to Calamity yet)
Q&A Questions/suggestions: Will you ever do a playthrough of terraria/calamity on the channel? Listen to the album currents by Tame Impala Opinion on Dinosaurs?
I’m so glad that they have threats of the ocean floor in here, it’s super underrated (btw Stained,Brutal,Calamity is the theme of the current final boss not the actual final boss)
listening to the tale of a cruel world after beating the final boss literally made my cry for the first time in YEARS, by itself it’s already amazing, but with context… perfect.
yeah I definitely think I put it too low in the ranking, I’m sure if I knew the context and beat the game like you have it would have the same effect on me!
I’m gonna give a bit of a lore rundown for roar of the jungle dragon: Basically this dragon is calling out to his master (yharim) to warn him about the impending doom that is the player, but begins to think that his master might be intentionally causing all of this but quickly casts those thoughts away so he can continue to fight (and die) in his master’s name, and this dragon is the dragon of rebirth meaning that after everything happens, after his master and you are long dead he’ll come back with absolutely nothing except memories
Hello! A question for your upcoming Q&A: I discovered your channel from your last Calamity OST ranking, and was wondering if you're going to do any more? (I would love to see you rank the Touhou OST, there are a whopping 19 mainline games so you have a lot to choose from!)
I could be wrong, because honestly i was too focused on the fights to pay attention to the music, but i think the servants of the scourge starts at a different part depending on which of the three sentinels youre fighting which is really cool, but again i honestly don’t remember if thats the case, also, anytime you hear bells, it GENERALLY signifies that youre going up against a very very powerful entity, usually godlike
If that is true about Servant of the Scourge, that would be really cool! Yeah the bells do definitely signify that, I absolutely love the… BELLS 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
I would love to see a calamity play through! Also, you are right that DM DOKURO is awesome! He makes flawless work. The only thing he sucks at is making bad music. And congrats on 1k! Your first part gave you like 3/4 of your subs! Excited for more videos! I would like to see a Valheim ost ranking, because it would be good.
I couldn't agree more! Thank you bro, yeah the 1st party went crazy I'm so happy! Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
About servants of the scourge: in preparation for the devourer of gods boss fight, there are 3 smaller bosses. Each has their own part of the servants of the scourge song. That’s why different things were popping up during the song, and why it changed so much
one of if not my favorite Calamity track that's composed by HPU is "hesitation"(Theme of The Sulphuric Depths), it combines the best parts of "wasteland" and adds spine-chilling serenity to the piece, bringing a feeling that cannot be described. I am a bit sad that it was not on the tierlist, but it is understandable. I'd love it if you did decide to listen and rank it amongst the other great songs. "master baiter- wait..." made me laugh so hard, and so did the intro, you have a lot of potential.
I would love to react to that one day, is it part of another Calamity mod? Glad you loved the intro and the unintentional joke and thank you for the compliment ❤️
You missed the interludes: Calm Before the Storms Storms Before the Catastrophe Catastrophe Before the Calamity Recommendation for Calamity's addon soundtracks; Catastrophic Fabrication Goozma's theme HeartPlusUp Calamity soundtrack WayFair soundtrack (vanilla replacement) Twisted Garden (listen to this last)
Dammit guys! Why did you spoil that Roar of the Jungle Dragon has lyrics!? The best part of the reaction is the realization of the air getting warmer around you!
supreme calamitas isn't the final boss, its yharim, but at the current moment, the boss isnt done yet😅 so supreme calamitas is the current final boss of terraria
20:59 idk id give this a higher rank because it really fits the theme well. Like you're fighting while theres corpse infested rain is going on. The old duke was turned into abomination due to yharim throwing dead bodies on the ocean. Old duke creating fogs everywhere like sailing the sea with a pirate ship
There are 4 really awesome geometry dash levels based on this OST, in case you play that. 3 of them are easier demons and one is the hardest level in the game.
No way I never know Geometry Dash actually based some of their music of this, I just thought they sounded similar by coincidence! I have played the game a bit a few years ago but never was that good at it 😭
@@_CJS What I meant to say is players can make custom levels with custom songs, so people used these songs in them. The levels themselves are based on the mod too and have bossfights from the game.
that’s a good idea! I will be revisiting this list in the future and re-ranking everything so that after playing Calamity I’m sure that will change some of my rankings!
the reason why I don't put The Tale of a Cruel World in C tier isn't simply because i don't like it or something, it's simply because i never played this game. Got this video in my recommendations for some reason. Keep up with the good content!
(QnA) Would you be willing to listen to more famous video game music? There is some absolutely INCREDIBLE stuff especially in the SNES era of gaming that I think you'd enjoy.
The entire OST is so good that I have every single one in a fantasy worldbuilding playlist. Every single one is great in my personal opinion. If I were to rank my favorite songs from this OST, this would have been my ranking 1. Stained, Brutal Calamity 2. Roar of the Jungle Dragon 3. Trial of Insane 4. Return to Slime 5. Threats on the Ocean Floor (Taikos and trumpet go SO HARD) 6. Universal Collapse 7. Hadopelagic Pressure (make you feel like you’re underwater as surface pressure falls on you, also brilliantly conveys a sense of mystery) 8. Tyranny’s Showdown (fan made Yharim boss fight (Requiem)) 8. (Vanilla terraria mod): Leviathan Trilogy (acid jazz ending is really good) 9. Onslaught of Beasts 10. Void
I don't know if this has been mention yet but DM Dokuro heavily utilizes leitmotifs in his works, many connected tracks will use them, for example the Abyss tracks Hadopelagic Pressure, Void and Threats of The Ocean Floor share leitmotifs which also serve to connect them to Terraria's OST Ocean. Because that's where the Abyss is located. However I think the best example of DM Dokuro's excellent use of leitmotifs is in one of my personal favorite tracks, "Raw, Unfiltered Calamity" Theme of Calamitas, which features a massive 7 leitmotifs (maybe even more)! From many of the previous major bosses masterfully blended together into an entirely new experience so well to the point where you might not even notice them on your first listen, really excellent stuff. I totally recommend anyone who hasn't recognized it yet go back and listen to Raw, Unfiltered Calamity again and try to listen for them, it's really a magical experience. Then to top it all of when the leitmotifs are removed from her theme, what you are left with is a melody that can only be seen as completely unique to Calamitas and not only is it banger, but it serves as a leitmotif itself in Stained, Brutal Calamity, an absolute masterpiece of a final song. (Final Note, some people theorize that the use of bells is symbolic and the moments where the bells chime are connected, impactful and important to calamity.)
Wow I did not realise all those theme’s are connected to the terraria OST Ocean, I did think a couple of them were but not all of them! I also did notice a couple of leitmotif’s in the Raw, Unfiltered Calamity these but not 7!! I will have to listen to it again soon to see if i can try and spot more. I do absolutely agree with Raw, Unfiltered Calamity having a unique melody to it unique with it only being amplified with grand and full-filling it was! That final theory is really interesting I hope that is true
Also, with Leviathan trilogy, the song plays before a boss even spawns, and the female entity named ??? shows up. Given the calming and alluring music that plays, it's easy to assume it's a siren's song meant to lure you to your underwater demise. That video you chose did skip the second theme, the one for the boss alongside Leviathan named Anahita, but that is common with most of the song compilations for Leviathan sadly.
If you do end up playing Calamity, you are both going to absolutely despise the final boss and at the same time love it, it’s brutally difficult and chaotic and you will die a LOT, but its so epic, it fits perfectly as the final fight, the music is incredible and really gets you immersed in the fight
@@_CJS yeah its a journey for sure, it only gets harder as you go as well, with maybe a few bosses along the way that will be unnecessarily difficult, but generally the endgame bosses are the hardest, i was doing a master deathmode mage playthrough and the final boss was so hard that after 40 attempts with my best one getting the boss down to like 30% i gave up (i recommend playing expert mode revengeance btw, its challenging but is the intended calamity experience, but of course play however you like! if you want an “easy” time you can always just do normal)
god I love the calamity ost, I highly recommend listening to the theme of the Exo mechs, its from the calamity ost but not made by DM, though I think it carries his spirit perfectly
A slight issue, I think the sound of the songs themselves are a little bit too quite I love scourge of the universe and universal collapse for the feeling like you are fighting some sort of giant cosmic being that literally does not care about you and and remains absolutely calm until the end when this being pisses off... Yep, this is exactly how the fight goes P. S. I can write explanation for the lyrics in both roar of the jungle dragon and stained brutal calamity, but this will be pretty long, so tell me if you want it
the leviathan trilogy's beginning is the theme of "???" (a singing creature) which spawns at the ocean floor which you need to kill to spawn the real boss who's theme is different

I like how you said how dm dokuro catches you off guard in many parts, but its even MORE fun and cool when you know its coming and thats why the songs get better the more you listen to them, and also i really like Toxic Wisdom because the trumpet is actually out of tune, and it uses microtones which makes it sound surreal and even beautiful.
wow, great spot with the trumpet! DM DOKURO has done such a great job and I’ve even been listening to some of these tracks outside of the video!
@@_CJS Yeah bro, you should give terraria calamity a chance, it is very fun and it has variety of difficulties for new people, if you need an calamity's enthusiast, thats me B)
not sure if you’ve seen my Q&A but I announced I’ll be playing it on the channel soon!
Now you gotta listen to the soundtracks from the calamity addons, like infernum mode mod and the wrath of the gods mod as well, there are lots of other calamity addon mods that very well may have very good music/soundtracks
Can we just talk about how in Terraria, a mod has their own mods?
Edit: for context, a bug happened and the comment was sent 4 or 3 times
(i think the other guy wants to talk about how the mod has its own mods.)
@@ShinyRIS oops, just a bug
infernum mod music kinda sucks but yeah i agree
thanks for the suggestions! I think you will be pleased with my next ranking then! I will also consider the other one for after!
Finally Part 2. great Video man, you deserve more subs. May i also suggest you check out the Ultrakill OST? I'd say it is of a similar caliber to the calamity OST, and would make for a great video.
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
Q&A: What history do you have in music? (Also the end of stained brutal calamity kind of sounds like a cliffhanger because there is still another boss planned to be added after Calamitas called Yharim, which hasn’t been added to Calamity yet)
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
Hey I strongly suggest you listen to the outer wilds ost for a video, its got some great music! (Loved this video btw)
Thank you mate, appreciate it. Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
Part 2 YEAAAAHH!!!
Huge Kudos to you for listening to the three Devourer of Gods' Themes separately AND the Nonstop Mix
thanks mate, I wanted to make sure everyone was happy!

Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video! Also I love Dinosaurs!
I have wait for this
hope you enjoyed!
Question for the Q&A: Can you play calamity mod?
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
QNA: Do you plan on doing a terraria/calamity playthrough on the channel eventually?
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
I’m gonna give a bit of a lore rundown for roar of the jungle dragon:
Basically this dragon is calling out to his master (yharim) to warn him about the impending doom that is the player, but begins to think that his master might be intentionally causing all of this but quickly casts those thoughts away so he can continue to fight (and die) in his master’s name, and this dragon is the dragon of rebirth meaning that after everything happens, after his master and you are long dead he’ll come back with absolutely nothing except memories
Wow that is really emotional, thank you for sharing that!
@@_CJS yeah sorry, I explained it super messily but I hope I got the point across

Would you consider doing a Calamity playthrough on the channel?
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
Hello! A question for your upcoming Q&A: I discovered your channel from your last Calamity OST ranking, and was wondering if you're going to do any more? (I would love to see you rank the Touhou OST, there are a whopping 19 mainline games so you have a lot to choose from!)
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
Yeah the bells do definitely signify that, I absolutely love the…
BELLS 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
I would love to see a calamity play through! Also, you are right that DM DOKURO is awesome! He makes flawless work. The only thing he sucks at is making bad music. And congrats on 1k! Your first part gave you like 3/4 of your subs! Excited for more videos! I would like to see a Valheim ost ranking, because it would be good.
I couldn't agree more! Thank you bro, yeah the 1st party went crazy I'm so happy! Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
by the way, theres MORE coming, the mod STILL isnt done, theres EVENTUALLY another final boss coming, and some tracks were missed unfortunately
when that comes out you best believe I will be reacting to that!
33:19 "and for the final time BELLS!"
About servants of the scourge: in preparation for the devourer of gods boss fight, there are 3 smaller bosses. Each has their own part of the servants of the scourge song. That’s why different things were popping up during the song, and why it changed so much
Oh that makes sense now! Thanks for letting me know and teaching me something new!
My question is: i found your channel for the first time with the part 1 of this video. Play calamity please i beg you im on my knees
Yessss
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
@@_CJS yea mate i saw it nice video!
Its always the bells, if a song has bells then I instantly love it
FACTS
one of if not my favorite Calamity track that's composed by HPU is "hesitation"(Theme of The Sulphuric Depths), it combines the best parts of "wasteland" and adds spine-chilling serenity to the piece, bringing a feeling that cannot be described.
You missed the interludes:
Calm Before the Storms
Storms Before the Catastrophe
Catastrophe Before the Calamity
Recommendation for Calamity's addon soundtracks;
Catastrophic Fabrication
Goozma's theme
HeartPlusUp Calamity soundtrack
WayFair soundtrack (vanilla replacement)
Twisted Garden (listen to this last)
Yeah sorry about this, I didn't realise this when using the list. I will react to the tracks I missed at some point in the future!
Dammit guys! Why did you spoil that Roar of the Jungle Dragon has lyrics!? The best part of the reaction is the realization of the air getting warmer around you!
Oh well 😭
I can confirm the air did still got warmer around me!
I like the wasteland song and how he aimed for a calm and being free vibe.
I completely understand that, I did love the relaxing vibe but personally I think it was a little forgettable. However I fully respect your opinion!
Questions:
1 - how are you doing today?
2 - do you plan to rank other game OSTs such as Lobotomy Corporation/Ultrakill
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
The true goat tier is him.
Ooh Les goooo!
Now he just needs to react to the wrath of the gods twisted garden...
glad im not the only one who thought that
REAL
thanks for the suggestion! I know what I’m going to rank next but I will consider these for after!
About the old duke song, its unique because it was his last song before he left the team due to the death threats he received from the fandom sadly
no way that’s so sad, I never realised he was receiving death threats. That is so poor for people to treat him like that 😢
I completed the calamity mod and wow i somehow completely forgot everything and your video just made me remember ❤😢
this comment actually makes me so happy! so glad this mini series bought those feelings back to you ❤️
@@_CJS it absolutely did ❤️
Q&A: will you do the popular calamity add-on songs? (Hunt of the Old God, Catalyst, and Wrath of Gods)
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
Nice you did the devourer remix its perfect ^^
no worries, I am glad I listened to it as it was so incredible!
Tale of a cruel world solos no cap its the best track
Although I put it a bit too low, I do disagree with it being the best but I respect your opinion!
supreme calamitas isn't the final boss, its yharim, but at the current moment, the boss isnt done yet😅 so supreme calamitas is the current final boss of terraria
My favorite is Stained, Brutal Calamity because I learned all the choir lyrics and it's kinda scary how much there is
Wow that is dedication! I completely understand why that’s your favourite!
@@_CJS Roar of the Jungle Dragon is still completely valid too, it is hard to choose lol
@@_CJS I just gotta wait until soon™ when they release Yharim as the true final boss
If you ever play calamity make sure to come back to this list after hearing how each theme was used alongside the gameplay 😁
that’s a good idea!
Keep up with the good content!
thanks mate, glad you are liking the content!
Q&A: If stained brutal calamity was a food what would it be?
Nails with hot sauce with a side of milk which has hot sauce in it
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
@@_CJS my first q&a apearence :3 (also late responce)
(QnA) Would you be willing to listen to more famous video game music? There is some absolutely INCREDIBLE stuff especially in the SNES era of gaming that I think you'd enjoy.
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
The entire OST is so good that I have every single one in a fantasy worldbuilding playlist. Every single one is great in my personal opinion. If I were to rank my favorite songs from this OST, this would have been my ranking
1. Stained, Brutal Calamity
2. Roar of the Jungle Dragon
3. Trial of Insane
4. Return to Slime
5. Threats on the Ocean Floor (Taikos and trumpet go SO HARD)
6. Universal Collapse
7. Hadopelagic Pressure (make you feel like you’re underwater as surface pressure falls on you, also brilliantly conveys a sense of mystery)
8. Tyranny’s Showdown (fan made Yharim boss fight (Requiem))
8. (Vanilla terraria mod): Leviathan Trilogy (acid jazz ending is really good)
9. Onslaught of Beasts
10. Void
yeah I absolutely loved all of these tracks too, and this is a very solid ranking imo!
@@_CJS Thank you for the feedback
Also you should check out a video called "all 43 (or something idk) calamity motifs"
It's no shock that Red himself actually said he would love to hire Dokuro on for the music of Terraria outright.
Also, with Leviathan trilogy, the song plays before a boss even spawns, and the female entity named ??? shows up. Given the calming and alluring music that plays, it's easy to assume it's a siren's song meant to lure you to your underwater demise. That video you chose did skip the second theme, the one for the boss alongside Leviathan named Anahita, but that is common with most of the song compilations for Leviathan sadly.
yeah sorry at the time I couldn’t find the correct video it looks like. Either way the 2 parts I did listen to were amazing!
you have earned a new sub
thank you! ❤️
If you do end up playing Calamity, you are both going to absolutely despise the final boss and at the same time love it, it’s brutally difficult and chaotic and you will die a LOT, but its so epic, it fits perfectly as the final fight, the music is incredible and really gets you immersed in the fight
I can only imagine how epic it would be, IF I even get to the final boss that is 😭
@@_CJS yeah its a journey for sure, it only gets harder as you go as well, with maybe a few bosses along the way that will be unnecessarily difficult, but generally the endgame bosses are the hardest, i was doing a master deathmode mage playthrough and the final boss was so hard that after 40 attempts with my best one getting the boss down to like 30% i gave up (i recommend playing expert mode revengeance btw, its challenging but is the intended calamity experience, but of course play however you like! if you want an “easy” time you can always just do normal)
servants of the scourge is the theme of the minions of the devourer of gods, and then the 2 after that are for the 2 phases of the devourer of gods
oh okay thanks for letting me know!
21:21 the man who sold the world
god I love the calamity ost, I highly recommend listening to the theme of the Exo mechs, its from the calamity ost but not made by DM, though I think it carries his spirit perfectly
I think you'll be happy with what I'm reacting to next!
A slight issue, I think the sound of the songs themselves are a little bit too quite
I love scourge of the universe and universal collapse for the feeling like you are fighting some sort of giant cosmic being that literally does not care about you and and remains absolutely calm until the end when this being pisses off... Yep, this is exactly how the fight goes
P. S. I can write explanation for the lyrics in both roar of the jungle dragon and stained brutal calamity, but this will be pretty long, so tell me if you want it
god the fight sounds so annoying 😂
I would love to hear the explanation for the lyrics if you have time to but no pressure!
the leviathan trilogy's beginning is the theme of "???" (a singing creature) which spawns at the ocean floor which you need to kill to spawn the real boss who's theme is different
oh okay thats pretty cool, thanks for letting me know!
Devourer of gods was originally the final boss (old theme was called: Final battle)
This is why the current is a master piece
oh wow, that actually makes sense, I can see why this track is so grand now! Thanks for letting me know
Q&A : after listening to such songs, did that hype you up to play calamity ?
Sorry for the late response but I just answered this in my new Q&A video!
