Hi Paul! I love the idea of free and playful painting. The colors really are warm and happy! This particular one looks like a great opportunity to relax and have a quiet moment if we’re happy and playful; or, stressed or having a little downcast day.. I find painting can really help with mindfulness practice.. rewind, relax, refresh! 😌 Thank you again for sharing your love and joy of painting! Happy painting indeed. 🦋🎨🖌️😍🤗 Have a great week!
Yes, painting is definitely my happy place. It can be a little stressful but that's the challenge of making videos too. The painting and filming are fine its the editing and post-production that takes sooo much time. I thought I would be getting a little quicker at it. But as I learn more I want to try and do more too. So onwards and upwards. Bright autumn leaves are everywhere. Have a lovely week - Paul 😍😍😎😎
I love autumn paintings! Thanks for another wonderful tutorial! I thought the little water lines at the end were the perfect touch! Best wishes from Utah!

Hi Kenneth - high praise indeed. In a world full of technology and demanding deadlines ( to name but two ) - I find great peace in simply painting. I look forward to making many more tutorials for you😃
Hi Paul. I like that you use small amounts of paint on your pallet. Watching some old Bill Alexander video's (now there was a character!) and he would have half a tube squeezed out on his pallet! Now these paints cost 30-40 dollars a tube, I'm not broke but that is wasteful. I called them out on this, suggesting that as they are in the paint sales business, encouraging using a tube per painting was in their financial interest. They responded that this was done so the colour on the pallet would be strongly visible from the camera's perspective. You know, that's almost believable. Well done on this warm little painting and encouraging folks to pick up a brush, a few starter colours from the hobby shop and give it a go.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's interesting to see how different artists approach their palettes. I always try to use just what I need to minimize waste. I know Bob shot two or three videos in one session. Running out of paint mid-way through a scene was a costly mistake. Studio time is priced by the minute so he painted end to end without a pause. Thank goodness I don't have to do that. But we were taught to speed paint as part of our teacher training. It's amazing just how quickly you can paint with some practice. Happy Painting - Paul 😃
Paul, there is such a thing as a paint saver palette for acrylic users. They come in different brands and go by different names. They have a water bearing sponge in the bottom and you can leave your paint on the pallet and close it up tight and save it for later. Some brands suggest say that it can be used it with oils. It occurred to me that even if it does not work that well for oils, it could help with water mixable paints because they are a little different and the moisture on the sponge inside the air tight pallet might help. Have you ever tried such a thing? Maybe you should them to let you try it and let us know how that works! If not, I may have to give it a go myself! Now you have me talking like you! 😂 Love your low key calm instructions. Thanks!
Hi Darla - my other half is a lovely watercolour artist and uses a Stay-Wet palette for her paints. Water mixable oils are a strange combination of oils modified to accept water molecules in their mixture and then evaporate again. Maybe a damp atmosphere would keep the surface hydrated and prevent skinning over. I mostly use traditional oil paint and work quite quickly so it's not too much of a problem. But if I do need to take a break I cover my palette with cling film ( Sarran Wrap ) and pop it in the freezer! The atmosphere in a freezer is incredibly dry and airless so oils just go stiff and can last months without drying out. 😃
Hi Claire - welcome on board my little art channel. So pleased you enjoy my easy going style with a few smiles and a pickle or two as I paint. All part of the fun! Hope to see you at one of the weekly Live Premiers on Sunday 6.00pm UK time 😃🥰😎

Another fabulous painting! Do you ever clean your brushes like bob did or do you always dry clean? I haven’t tried dry cleaning but would love it if I could do that instead of using paint thinner every time.
Hi and a great question. I dry clean almost exclusively when I'm painting but I always wash my brushes at the end of a painting session. I'm very (very) fussy about looking after my kit. I use Zest - It brush cleaner as my skin doesn't like odourless thinners. And never ever use white spirits! It will destroy your artist-quality brushes. Hope that helps - Paul 😃
Hi Alice - Thanks for watching. I used a 16" x 20" canvas painted with light grey to tone the canvas down. Its the basis for almost all my paintings as white is too stark and makes the paints overly bright. But, this painting can be adapted to any size or shape of canvas. Have fun creating your own masterpiece - paul 😃🥰😎

The sea next to me, always gray, on studying the patterns, seen the 2 waves crashing into each other that i was going to attempt, the only thing i picked up on, was getting the fold right, as in, no actually a wave pattern as such, its on the over flip and backward fold, that's the two main points to capture... Yes, mine had a little wrinkle when I apply the first coat of acrylic. I always use heavy-weight decorators ( as per the list of materials in the description ) lining paper which wrinkles far less. And I use a small roller to apply a nice coat of acrylic paint that's a reasonable quality. Some are more water than paint and this causes a few wrinkles. Lastly, I always tape my paper to an old canvas to keep it as flat as possible when drying. These steps usually keep my paper flat. The second coat of acrylic usually knocks out any other wrinkles. Hope this helps😃
