    I absolutely love this product. I'm on my second bottle. I use it daily. I genuinely believe that women with a little age do not exfoliate enough, leaving their skin looking rough and dull. It leaves my skin super soft without any irritation. I'm a big fan of CeraVe's cleansers as well - Hydrating Facial Cleanser and SA Cleanser. I also use their moisturizing cream.

    According to some derms and cosmetic chemists Ive seen on social media, lower percentages of glycolic acid are great for people with dark skin. They’re more likely to suffer rebound hyperpigmentation with higher percentages of glycolic acid.

    I got this this week! I've only used it once so far. My skin generally tolerates acids well but I've been on tret for a few months now so I've been incorporating very gentle exfoliating here and there. I like the pump packaging and it was lighter weight than I was afraid it would be when I saw it was creamier than their AHA/BHA combo Acne Control Gel. It didn't pill on me and absorbed quickly. Very gentle and seemed to work (albeit from minimal testing).

    • @NOBSBeauty

      That is a very good point, those who are using other actives and/ or tretinoin might be better off using a gentle exfoliant to avoid extra irritation so thank you for mentioning that.

    It’s funny that you are reviewing this as I have been researching AHA/BHA/PHAs today. I am still in my first year of having an actual skincare routine, despite my age. The only acid I have tried is L-ascorbic acid. Because of my rosacea I was afraid to try any of the AHA/BHA/PHA products. However, I got a sample of 4% glycolic acid and I was so surprised I tolerated it and my skin texture was so improved after just one use. I have tried it two more times, have tolerated it and now am researching the many variations of AHA/BHA/PHA products. The CeraVe product is made for someone like me, but there’s so many other possibilities.

    Hi Sarah here in the UK we have a very limited selection of cereve available tbh. This purple range is not available here, apart from on Amazon at inflated prices lol. I just don't get the cereve hype. When it first launched here a few years ago I was so excited, as I had seen it all over youtube. I bought the hydrating cleanser, the pm moisturiser and the big tub of moisture cream - what a disappointment they were. The cleanser is fine - it worked fine and didn't cause me any issues, so I used it up (I haven't repurchased as it wasn't really all that impressive). The pm moisturiser and the moisture cream in the tub both burned/stung my skin on face, neck and chest. I used them up on the body, but they weren't moisturising enough and I had to layer more moisturiser on top - never purchased again due to how disappointed I was in their performance. I later realised the formulation we had was different from the US and is the same as their new US formulation - which is not getting the best reviews as far as I can tell. There is something in the formulation of their moisturisers my skin hates, although so far I haven't been able to pinpoint the issue from the INCI list. Both cereve and cetaphil have been a disappointment tbh - the only thing I really like is the cetaphil redness night moisturiser. Everything else has been either meh or irritated my skin. All of that said I think a 5% exfoliating treatment is probably a decent percentage for more sensitive skin, which is who they're marketing too. Used daily this will probably be enough for most people to see results. Of course really sensitive skin will probably struggle with the glycolic acid and might enjoy either PHA or mandelic acid better. I think it's a reasonable addition to their line and in keeping with who the products are marketed to. Best wishes.

    Can you mix products/actives into a cleanser? Ex: Geek and Gorgeous Jelly Joker with their Salicylic acid serum. I’m looking to achieve a SA gentle cleanser for fungal acne. Both are FA safe.

    • @NOBSBeauty
      @NOBSBeauty  3 года назад +1

      You probably could try that, but Salicylic Acid can be a tough one to "mix" into another product. Typically Mixing salicylate acid works best in a Propylene Glycol based formula. For the Paula's choice, I would use it like every 3rd day to start to see how your skin tolerates it. I overused it in the beginning and got very dry/papery feeling skin, especially on my neck when I went every other day/some days in a row. I had to back off of other actives/AHAs to find the best balance. Now I use it every other morning. Helps keep my large pores clear. I could use it more frequently, but I like to use the days off trying new products :)

      I would tend to agree with what Gwendoline said. Slow tends to be the best way to go with most Skincare products, especially exfoliants like BHA. I really have had great luck with pretty much all of the exfoliants from Paula's Choice, especially their bha ones. Another option is to apply the bha specifically to the areas of concern as opposed to the entire face.

    Hey @NoBSBeauty Sarah, can you do an investigation into what “extracts” are extracted into? Especially in K Beauty, this is really important to figure out.
    I’m an herbalist so I know how extractions are done…there’s always a menstruum that the mark is extracted into. Could be water, glycerin, or alcohol. Or something else!
    Point is, something that claims to be nothing but mugwort extract and “no water” like…what is it actually? It’s certainly not just pressed mugwort juice. It’s mugwort steeped in SOMETHING. What? And in herbalism we can do a calculation of how strong an extraction is. Mg equivalent of dry herb per ml kinda thing.
    Basically my point is these k beauty products that are so rich in extracts are probably using a method of labeling different then the US FDA would. Can we please figure this out?

    • @NOBSBeauty
      @NOBSBeauty  3 года назад +1

      I have been intending on doing more research on this, it really is a fascinating topic. The variations of quality is also a big concern. The better the quality Extract the more expensive the product would end up being, so I have to wonder how some of the brands get away with charging so little for some of their products and still make money?! Comparing the Isntree Green Tea Toner to the Amorepacific Vintage Extract for example, the price difference is astounding. It is also interesting to see what they use to Extract them, Water? Alcohol is also a common ingredient with Extracting ingredients. Very importance comment, and also a good reminder that not everything is an apples to apples comparison.

    • @juliaangelina1984
      @juliaangelina1984 3 года назад

      @@NOBSBeauty yay! I hope you do . I mean I buy glycerin extractions meant for internal use and they're usually around ten bucks for an ounce and they are deep brown/green/red/purple, depending on the herb they're extracting. Like centella, that's also known as Gotu Kola. I've taken it internally for years to do exactly what the topical stuff is supposed to do. But my glycerin extractions of it are DARK BROWN, potent, and I know exactly how much herb I'm getting. (Also since they are so potent and are nothing but herb, glycerin, and water, I add them to skincare.)
      When I look at the Purito serum and how clear it is, I really wonder how much plant extract can really be in there. Like they could put a small amount of centella in a vat of glycerin and water and then call the result "centella extract" but it could be super weak.
      Another point I want to mention: I've been adding a couple pumps of astaxanthin into my night cream. So in a 1.7 oz jar of cream I'm adding about 3 mgs of astaxanthin. I'm not great at math, but that's gotta be a very low total %. And it turns my cream very red. I look like an Oompa Loompa when I go to bed, but it all absorbs and my skin looks incredible in the morning.
      Wanted to mention it because astaxanthin is a very well studied ingredient and possibly the most potent antioxidant on earth. More and more brands are adding it to skincare, but the products are like, pale pink or pale orange or actually even white or clear! Astaxanthin is bright red by nature. the color itself is what is so beneficial about it. Same goes for berries. the pigments ARE the antioxidants. I could go really in-depth into this, but the point is, if you have a product claiming to have astaxanthin in it and it doesn't turn you a little red, or lutein in it and it doesn't turn you a little yellow, or blueberry in it and it isn't a little blue....you're not really getting much. I wish % values were required on labeling!
      Anyway. Thanks for reading my rant! I figured you'd appreciate a rant. Lol.
