I like it when the piano player looks back at her and they sort of make funny faces at each other briefly and she wiggles a bit. It looks like all of them are having a ton of fun together :)
I'm from Germany. I'm here after an exciting and tough day. Her voice, the craft (I mean the mix of lyrics, Instruments, cooperation between the singing and playing and, of couse organizing and sound-engineering), a beautiful piece of art and beautiful to see, what humans can create together no matter where they come from, what the believe in, what they look like, or whatever.... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
@ Amanda +1, and the guy on the piano, he's good too. James Wyatt, Frida Mariama Touray, I'll try to remember their names, too. They all 3 together are interesting and sound great. Love it.
Karen Lum, right and this version is way better than the original, and her voice so much better. Don't understand her actual productions when i hear that kind of live performance.
One of the many, many things that amaze me about Lianna is her per-fect pronunciation of every word she sings. You can hear every consonant, every syllable and she uses the accents in her words to add a new layer of rhythm to her songs. It makes me appreciate language even more and it's a rare sound to hear in music these days.
So, my son is 2 years old now and he is crazy about Lianne since he was 11 month old... no cartoon or anything else can match her, he just stops anything he's doing to listen to her sing.. HER EVERY SONG!
That's so sweet. I don't have a kid but my future kid is gonna be listening to Lianne whether she/he likes it or not! They better like her or I'll doubt they are mine :D
I don't know how they do it, but NPR music transcends the billboard charts. Lianne La Havas's tiny desk has more views than Taylor Swift's and Billie Eilish's COMBINED. That is incredible. NPR is a space where the most talented artists get the recognition they deserve. Always.
@@esmeveleztoro oh 100%. Not slandering Taylor or Billie, in fact their tiny desks are amazing too. I was just impressed that Lianne had so many views which is absolutely deserved!! I guess I was also implying that Billie and Taylor get their fair share of flowers on other platforms, and I’m glad this happens to be the platform where lianne can get hers
+Clement Piano but a bad engineer can destroy great musicianship with a slight turn of the wrong knob. Very much agreed with Ralph, brilliant engineering on this. Credit where it's due.
I feel this way about almost all the Tiny Desk concerts. I fall in love with the raw artist then go listen to the album and am disappointed in the over-production of almost every one of them. The latest one was Andrew Bird. His performance is AWESOME but in his album his vocals get washed out by the music too easily. I think the pendulum has swung to far in favor of electronic manipulation so it is now on the back-swing to raw live music. I can only hope :-D
Backing vocals, if done seriously, require skilled vocalists. It’s accentuation, not overlaying and singing against lead melody and rhythm isn‘t easy at all.
Luc ky ...u said it so well... she's is easily one of the most beautiful sights ive ever seen... if i die and come back as a woman, i wanna look just like her...
Conor Hughes Thank you (: it's a musical achievement I was first made aware of by Steely Dan talking about the making of their Aja album, so can't take all the credit but glad to pass it on. She's fine example of it.
+Tony Lednev I wish I could say she was terrible live, but she wasn't. Friggin I N C R E D I B L E dude, I was vibing out hard during her show. I even stayed back after the show and managed to speak with her (I was a nervous mess lol) for a little and got a picture and autograph!
Tony Lednev I'd say it was definitely more unique than her live performance here or a studio sound. She had a full band and sang every song a lot differently than the albums IMO. Also, her voice is a lot more fantastic live than the albums.
***** That meant that I didn't want to make the guy feel bad that he was missing out on something awesome, which, unfortunately, he did. Just trying to save feelings my dude.
Fun fact: She actually has to keep her eyes closed as much as she does, as not to unintentionally mesmerize people around her with her smile, let alone her singing. Currently, both the UN and NATO recognizes the action, of her making direct eye contact, while smiling a WMD, weapon of mass distraction. Stating, that be she allowed to, on camera maintain eye contact while smiling, AND singing, for more than a couple of seconds, people watching said clip, will be unable to get any work done for at least an hour, locked into a semi vegetative state, with the risk of dehydration, as they watch her again, and again unless someone forcefully removes the victim from the source.
@@ashleymichalski1037 shit, just discovered that she's also made music videos, I mean why wouldn't she have music videos. My heart is beginning to engulf my body, send help

I really appreciate your guy's recording quality. You COULD get away with one fairly cheap cardioid picking up everyone. But you go out of your way to mic every voice and instrument separately, mixing and mastering at different positions in the soundstage. Feels like Tinydesk is someone's passion project. I love this series so much.

Jordon Brewer i think im not appreciating josh enough. i know nothing about sound mixing and mastering but any of tiny desk concert’s audience can tell that their sound quality is impeccable, whatever set up they use and sound editing they do enhances the musician’s voice, enabling us to hear it crisp and clear, and amplifies the characteristics in each voice so we can hear every twist and turn and projection. it’s indispensable for a musical experience. top notch
+1 i watch npr's tiny desks pretty much every day since a couple of years and it's just amazing/incredible how they regularly make the very best recording available... in a one take session?!
Lianne is such a music nerd, you can tell in how calculated she is in her vocal delivery. even when she plays guitar, she's cautiously stroking each string for the exact effect for the exact length she wants the note in the air. Love her
@MaxamillionGrey also just so we're clear, Prince, one of the greatest musicians of all time PERIOD, did not work with many people. Guess who he DID work with because of her raw talent? Lianne. Good night.
Forget always floors me. The fingerpicking, chords, the tone of her voice, the bouncy rhythm, the songwriting. True artistry. Also, her outfit? I can't. One of my fav Tiny Desks to watch.
Heard Prince say she was something special before he left us : ( For those who don't know... Prince played about a dozen musical instruments. And he didn't just play em. He destroyed on them like a boss! So that's not nothing when a dude like that is telling you that you have something special!
@@soyborne.bornmadeandundone1342 yes she participated in one of his last albums too. If a genius like him layed his eyes on her.......man there is no doubt the is good, she exudes talent.
DeadVoltage1 .Yes.I discovered her by accident singing Midnight and when I searched her she has already made Albums and Prince loved her talents too.Yes it's insane why this amazing talents is not World Wide Known.
Tiny Desk is where sub-par vocalists can't hide. Too intimate, too raw, too in your face. It is however just another venue for someone Lianne. Few vocalists can hit a note and be 100% in tune the second the note is released and maintain the pitch throughout, with or without the help of a vibrato. Most vocalists who have this kind of control and accuracy often developed the ability from playing and mastering an instrument in addition to their voice. Leanne is clearly no exception. She is truly Exceptional!
I dont't know what it is, but the NPR tiny desk concerts bring out the best in some of the performers. Here's another example. Thank you NPR and all the artists!.
It also helps that they mic every voice and instrument and then have an extremely talented sound engineer mix and master the tracks, but of course, having talented artists is obviously a prerequisite.
Her live performances are waaaaaay better than her studio EP, honestly. Not saying her EP is bad, on the contrary, it's phenomenal. But her performances are so natural and the sound is so much richer. The two other musicians with her are incredible, too. They really enhance the whole thing.
the little “wow” from the audience at 3:39 is really my mood this entire video. I found out about Lianne through her colors performance and I’ve been in love with her music ever since
I always download the songs but am always a little disappointed that they don't sound the same as they do live. They need to release them on iTunes or Spotify!
Whoooooaaaaaa. Completely entranced. Went from doing dishes in the kitchen with NPR tiny concerts on autoplay to sitting on the floor with my face inches from my screen. Thank you.

i watch npr's tiny desks pretty much every day since a couple of years and it's just amazing/incredible how they regularly make the very best recording available... in a one take session?!
@@FB-mw5gv wow, I need to speak to Josh.. I just wanna talk.. In a good way.. LOL
Lianne is such a music nerd, you can tell in how calculated she is in her vocal delivery. even when she plays guitar, she's cautiously stroking each string for the exact effect for the exact length she wants the note in the air. Love her
MissOJAY cool!
😭
@MaxamillionGrey it meant enough to get you to make a snide remark.
@MaxamillionGrey also just so we're clear, Prince, one of the greatest musicians of all time PERIOD, did not work with many people. Guess who he DID work with because of her raw talent? Lianne. Good night.
Too much calculation.
I'm completely blown away!
This version of unstoppable is incredible, damn!
Sept 2019 and I'm still hooked
I agree it's addictive and beautiful
@@leef250 2020.

Knight this man, now!
Not many ppl understand - thanks for that comment :*
My man’s dynamic volume control makes each npr album worthy
All "NPR tiny desk" are incredible well recorded indeed!
I love most of these artists on Tiny Desk, but the engineer stars in all of them. Always a cut above.
💯🎶💯🎶💯🎶👏🏽🙌🏽💪🏽💯🔥🔥!
WHOAAAAAA... her voice is amazing. If you haven't listened to this with headphones yet, go get some, sit in the grass somewhere...... and feel life
Andrew Rodriguez BRB GONNA DO JUST THAT
word !! funny ive been doing this for a while now!!!
this is all i want.... i can't wait to do this.. // something similar.. i just want to feel life (again) so badly. this is a lovely idea.
Forget always floors me. The fingerpicking, chords, the tone of her voice, the bouncy rhythm, the songwriting. True artistry. Also, her outfit? I can't. One of my fav Tiny Desks to watch.
Frida, that harmony is spot on!
Who is Frida? :)
The back vocalist :)
Ah ok, thank you! :)
💯💯💯
What's her surname..?
@@acharich kahlo
Prince loved her and it's easy to see why! I've seen her live, it was amazing!
Prince had such good musical taste. How did you learn that he loved her?
The Prince seal of approval.
I just listened to Adam Buxtons podcast and she was being interviewed and mentioned Prince called her and that was the start of their friendship!
where did she learn to do this please ? how do people do this ?
It's true. I do love her.
the colour of her voice....
i love it
She still has the best tiny desk concert.
She's so beautiful god
i think we all did :)
I fall in love with her everytime I watch this video
No auto-tune folks. The girl is BRILLIANT!
Heard Prince say she was something special before he left us : (
For those who don't know... Prince played about a dozen musical instruments. And he didn't just play em. He destroyed on them like a boss!
So that's not nothing when a dude like that is telling you that you have something special!
@@soyborne.bornmadeandundone1342 PRINCE is my all-time Favorite.
@@soyborne.bornmadeandundone1342 yes she participated in one of his last albums too. If a genius like him layed his eyes on her.......man there is no doubt the is good, she exudes talent.
Clicked on the vid cuz I thought her outfit was cute. Stayed cuz her voice sounds like a magical fairies.
Hahaha ikr
same! shes so cute
isnt her outfit the best?
Same here!
Same :)
8:23 My most favorite part - I love her little smile. Only she knows what she thought about in this moment.
she is sunshine incarnate
Criminally underrated.
DeadVoltage1 .Yes.I discovered her by accident singing Midnight and when I searched her she has already made Albums and Prince loved her talents too.Yes it's insane why this amazing talents is not World Wide Known.
I sounds like her voice comes from an ethereal dimension. So beautiful.
!!!!!
I will be attending Lianne La Havas' and Leon Bridges concert in 2 days. I cannot wait.
are you going to the clearwater show?
did they play together, or did one open for the other?
Lianne opened for Leon
Good God, what a line up!
Yes, it was amazing. One of the best concerts I have ever attended. I feel blessed to have been in the presence of real music(talent).
She's just perfect.
I always revisit this every once in a while. It never gets old!
ShatteredDiscoBall same 😊
me too! It's so beautiful.
The perfect version of Forget. Absolutely incredible
What a great artist she is! These arrangements and the way they sing and play together are just incredible!
+Mark Scheffler Not too shabby on guitar.
+Mark Scheffler And apart from th e great music, I must say I love her long skirt with buttons and her shirt.
+Arpa de Lluna she has a nice ass too
So many feels I didn't even know existed. She is phenomenal.
Their chemistry as all their voices blend with the instruments not to mention the gentle dancing. It’s all so magical.😭😭🤗
I know right? They were touched by God's grace here :)
HOW CAN THIS VOICE BE SO SOFT YET sO POWERFUL?? holy jesus i love her :((
I dont't know what it is, but the NPR tiny desk concerts bring out the best in some of the performers. Here's another example. Thank you NPR and all the artists!.
Seeing how much she enjoys herself when she plays makes her so beautiful I'm not even sure if I'm describing it right but she's a beautiful soul
your back up singers are heaven sent!!!!
Well that was too short for this little concert. She is amazing ❤🎉
I've never fallen in love with someone because of a RUclips video before.
you need to look up her take away show. walking thru the streets of Paris playing her guitar. so lovely!
She is truly beautiful. Its hard not to fall for someone who bares their soul so faithfully
+Michael Ryan clearly !!!! In Paris its waouuuu
...its not a youtube vidoe its a npr tiny desk concert
It's so funny because as soon as I saw this video I said the exactly the same thing. There is something so beautiful and intoxicating about her.
That dude on the piano seems to be so sweet
And so in awe of Lianna :)
How is the sound so polished in these NPR tiny desk concerts. They all sound almost too good to be real.
Helps when you invite extremely talented musicians
Bruh.. Completely on point sound..! 😭
It also helps that they mic every voice and instrument and then have an extremely talented sound engineer mix and master the tracks, but of course, having talented artists is obviously a prerequisite.
Its the size of the desk ... the smaller the desk the better the sound.
Ok. I've been listening to this for the past 7 years and nothing comes close to this on Tiny Desk. Only three people performing!
I too keep coming back, again and again and again.
Yes, awesome. She's a favorite of mine! Check out Ledisi's performance... there's 4 folks! I think you'll enjoy! Peace
Lianne is new to me, but her vibe is familiar... "unstoppable". Gotta love these Tiny Desk gems!
+NikolaTeslasGhost
"Tiny Desk gems!" True !
+NikolaTeslasGhost Yes "Tiny Desk gems" couldn't have said that better myself
Her live performances are waaaaaay better than her studio EP, honestly. Not saying her EP is bad, on the contrary, it's phenomenal. But her performances are so natural and the sound is so much richer. The two other musicians with her are incredible, too. They really enhance the whole thing.
afroPunk Performance was THE BEST!
Her backing vocal name is Frida and she is a singer as well. And a good one, by the way ^-^
True!
Yesssss!! I have saw her twice and I was blown away both times 👏🏾
Lianne is such a wonderful storyteller.
the little “wow” from the audience at 3:39 is really my mood this entire video. I found out about Lianne through her colors performance and I’ve been in love with her music ever since
3:29
tiny desk ruins the studio versions of songs (it's a compliment)
I totally agree have always thought that. Especially Mac Miller
I always download the songs but am always a little disappointed that they don't sound the same as they do live. They need to release them on iTunes or Spotify!
Yeah same with Florence+the Machine.
cough cough *Anderson .Paak* cough cough
@@glenjnr10 Absolutely! And Tank and the Bangas, Avett Brothers, Andrew Bird, and Monika too!
Absolutely love the interaction and vocal harmonies from James Wyatt and Frida Mariama Touray, in addition to those fabulous songs.

Whoooooaaaaaa. Completely entranced. Went from doing dishes in the kitchen with NPR tiny concerts on autoplay to sitting on the floor with my face inches from my screen. Thank you.
