A native of South London, with Greek and Jamaican parents, La Havas began teaching herself to play piano, write songs, and sing at the age of seven. Her family’s diverse taste was very influential, when she was a child, her grandparents babysat her often: “They’re from Jamaica, so when I was growing up I listened to a lot of religious reggae-almost hymns, but in a reggae style-on cassettes. But at the same time my mother was listening to a lot of '80s and '90s Michael Jackson, and Mary J Blige, who I loved from a very early age. Plus India Arie, Jill Scott and The Fugees”.
Lianne’s biggest hits include “Green and Gold”, “Unstoppable”, “Gone”, as well as an incredible cover of Dionne Warwick's “I Say a Little Prayer”, and a show stopping Tiny Desk performance for NPR Music. Her catalogue also includes the albums “Blood” and “Is Your Love Big Enough”.

Some people's light just shines so bright.
You are so right Ma'm
You are so right Ma'm
You are so right Ma'm.

Here I’m from Argentina
This is on repeat. Oh how I miss these days. When you're free to go out and listen to good music from amazing artists.
Hahaha that is the good thing, whan you don't have a girl no mo😅😂😂😂
❤️
The thing i miss the most!!! A live concert!!!!!!!!!!!!!
literally 1 year ago, i was fortunate enough to have seen a bunch of concerts (Mac Ayres, Snoh Aalegra, Giveon, Teedra Moses) right before COVID hit NYC!
still livin' off that experience

LYRICS:
The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little pray for you
While combing my hair now
Wondering what dress to wear now
I say a little pray for you
Forever and ever
You'll stay in my heart
And I will love you forever and ever
We never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, together it's how it must be
To live without you would only mean heartbreak for me
I run for the bus dear
And while riding I think of us dear
I say a little pray for you
At work I just take time
And all through my coffee break time
I say a little pray for you
Forever and ever you'll stay in my heart
And I will love you forever and ever
We never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, together
It's how it must be
To live without you would only mean heartbreak for me
You gotta believe me
For me there's no one but you
Please love me too
I'm in love with you
Answer my prayers now baby
Say you love me too
Answer my prayers now baby
Forever and ever you'll stay in my heart
And I will love you forever and ever
We never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, together it's how it must be
To live without you would only mean heartbreak for me
😭😭😭😭🗽💔
I don't typically comment on videos, but I got to say, she probably has the most beautiful voice out of anyone I have heard in a very long time. It's got to be really tough in the music business these days to still be original, but she is truly something special. Listening to her sing is like looking up and seeing the sky for the first time.
Nice metaphor 🙌🏼
Got goosbumps reading this
There's just something magic about her singing. The guitar accompaniment fits her very well because she can take her own time for her phrasing and can really let her voice ring out. There's just something about her control and way phrasing that catches me everytime. And even after learning how she's phrasing (I'm a man) there's just something special in the texture of her voice that can't be archieved with technique. She's one of the few singers that are truly individual.
Her vibrato, texture/tone, rifts and polished vocals = I can listen to
her and a guitar any time or day. Continue to be a gift to the world.
Huge gift to the world.
Wow nice to see you guys commented here
2:08 why so dumbs and idiots and without brains jajaj kkkk kkkkk
Her stopping to ask everyone to do the backing vocals is exactly the reason I love her.
I heard this at a loud restaurant and almost broke my neck trying to shazam it by standing on a chair next to the speaker. 100% worth it!😍😍
Me too! I was walking past Chipotle and it was playing on the patio, I stopped on a dime..I asked Google to show me all the artist who sang this song ...never heard of her but I am so glad I found it!!! Made me smile from ear to ear when I heard it ( I'm sure it was on a podcast) she has that Amy winehouse rawness🙋
Classic move
Been here done that hehe
Her rendition of this song....does it so much justice! Of course no one can outdo Ms. Franklin, however if you’re doing her song you gotta do it right and Lianne did it right !
No one can outdo Ms Warwick....
@@foshoucitron4595 especially on solid gold with boy George
I think Carole King was first.
Also H.E.R
2:08 why so dumbs and idiots and without brains jajaj kkkk kkkkk duvido oooo
I like her natural look- i.e. her hair. In this day and age it is so refreshing.
As well as slim elegance and no visible tats.
Kathy Cunningham I agree
Truth! I am so sick of all the no talent posers. In particular it is sad to see how far down and back Black women have been driven regarding their hair. Natural is beautiful!
You'd like me. I haven't bathed in a week.
Yes and her dressing too! Her voice and Everything about her is so authentic and relatable! Love it!
And 7 years later I’m still crying and singing along. I love this rendition she did so much, definitely at the same caliber of Aretha’s. Any song coming out of this woman’s mouth will be ethereal.
Absolutely magical.
She nails it perfectly, the brief stops after each chorus, the control and range of her voice and guitar accompaniment , the way she builds to a crescendo, her aura, passion and delicacy.
The crowds awe , lack of phones, general silence , but then unanimous clapping in time to the last chorus,
Incredible.
Aretha Franklin's original is a classic, but totally different vibe. This is a rare case where a cover just adds extra brilliance to an already amazing original piece of music.
She's a smooth criminal with those pauses
Dionne Warwick is actually the original singer lol. Idk why aretha's own is so popular but this was a beautiful and accurate comment
You defined everything so brilliantly. :-)
Love how the audience is paying attention to her and no one is caught in their phones trying to record everything. They're just simply enjoying the beautiful moment💜
1:05 sure open your eyes and stop lying to yourself
True... savour the moment...
Beautiful comment 💖
3:25 phone right there lol
Every time I hear this song I think of “My Best Friends Wedding”
Yaaassssss. It was on repeat on MTV back then.
me too! lol it's where i first heard it and fell in love with it
Me too !! 😊🤍
Same af 💯🥰⛪
YASSSS 😍
How is it possible that this delightful girl has such a huge following but I have never heard of her until a few days ago? I only stumbled upon her because I was watching Tiny Desk concerts and happened to see her video. Lianne is phenomenal.
Prince was a great supporter of this young lady
imagine leon bridges and lianne la havas
id actually drop dead.
magical!!
I would pass away 😭!
dude why hasn’t this happened
She has the potential to become one of the best artist of all time. I hope fame will not change her. Can't wait for the third album!
You write it as this is her song ;) but good cover, yes
I know that's not her song. I was talking about her voice, presence and style of music. ;)
PJ Many artists' greatest hits are covers and some people don't even know they are not theirs. For example, I Will Always Love You is not originally by Whitney Houston. The list goes on. So, no need to judge Lianne for an amazing rendition. She didn't even copy the original. She made it her on. That's not easy to do.
@@RayasNegroOvejas All renditions of this song are covers as it was written by Bacharach and David and was originally recorded by Dionne Warwick in 1967i sh. I heard Warwick sing it live once and I loved it but this is my favourite rendition of all time. Anyone is entitled to sing it. This is my favourite rendition. 😇
@@RayasNegroOvejas Aretha Franklins cover is more popular than the original your point is what?
I am always lost when I watch this woman, wow! She's breath taking
thats exactly the feeling!

There are very, very few songs I like as much as this one. Beautiful homage to queen Aretha.

A los 70 años descubrí esta maravillosa mujer y su voz. Lo máximo para escuchar siempre.
When my wife and I were sick with covid-19 and it wasn't looking good for us this song got my son through the hard time.
This is simply a beautiful rendition of this song. It would be amazing to be at a show and listen to this live :)
Let's Do Better Now it was one of the best moments of my life hearing this live outdoors in summer, the whole atmosphere was just the best, definitely see her live if you get the chance, you won't regret it! :)
💘 it
I love her hair
I love her everything!
Neghie Thervil she is so perfect
She's on a whole another level vocally. She's an angel!! And she is the cutest too! I love her!
She is a real diamond, her voice, her soul, her hair, her skin, Is a real pleasure listen to her and see her !
I am 67 years old and this young lady brought tears to my eye… she is a gift
Did you notice almost no one is recording with their phones?
And also... 2:55 who are you? i love you
Might just be the concert's policy
Nope, I'm at that festival every year, no such policy :) This was simply respect and a job well done.
TheMilajki it looks like Rock Werchter (a belgian festival)
Indeed, Rock Werchter :)
Brenda Sánchez aww lol
This Is Us anyone?
Yes! I didnt even know Lianne had covered this but her voice was so recognisable! Gorgeous!
Yep. Lol
I'm here for it. I couldn't wait to hear it again after watching last night's episode.
Yes yes yes ! Just watched the ep13 5min ago

Lianne is a gifted and soulful artist, singer, and guitarist. Her voice is strong and she has nice controlled vibrato and her guitar feel and tone is soft and warm. This is a real and impressive performance with her touching peoples' souls and hearts with her soul and her heart making a beautiful sonic and soul connection with her audience.I love hearing her sing and play and she looks visually beautiful with her updo and red and green look. This video shows why people are into her and her music, talent ,beauty, and truth all are evident to all those who listen and feel her warm graceful energy and soul.
By then she had Prince's blessing.... may we hear what he did...
She somehow looks like Willow Smith when she is hitting the High notes with her facial expressions.
Was thinking this exactly too, and searching for somone else who saw it
I love that she has no make up... Her hair not relaxed and just natural... Voice like a siren.... This girl is magic...
Angel.
I don't how I found this, but I'm so in loveeee ❤
#R.I.P Aretha Franklin
Now she can.
her playing the guitar and the sound of it gives me life
God this performance is so incredible but the audience clapping on 1 and 3 hurt me
Must have been in Germany. Sad but it's a ongoing problem... parents teach it to their kids already before they even go to kindergarten. Considering clapping my home country is seriously lost.
iirc the audience started on 2 and 4 but the chorus is in an odd meter. by the second phrase they were clapping on 1 and 3 but by the third they got back to 2 and 4
me emociono todas as vezes que ouço essa música. lianne toca a alma!
🇧🇷
🇧🇷🇯🇵
Omg this song combined with Beth's scene on #ThisIsUs just made my week. Actually all of Black History Month
I had the feels for sure!
I cried my eyes out. What gorgeous storytelling!
Jay D.R I had a total breakdown! Was very personal tonight watching that episode!
I'm so proud of myself clicked this video in curiosity. Her voice is just..WOW
Just imagine Lianne + Benjamin Clementine... I already have goosebumps
💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
Kleopatra I swear!!!!!
Rock Werchter 2016, I was there when this was recorded... I'm so happy it was, allowing me to relive this magical moment every now and then.
i love how she just vibed so much with the crowd, made it feel like a private and personal performance. serious talent.
wow. can't wait for the day when coldplay opens up for her.
And they did~!!
She captured words in a dream, like delicately catching hold of a butterfly's wings as it flutters around.
That's beautiful and exactly what she did!
Her voice sends shivers down mine spine.. she's actually perfect.🤤 What festival is this??? Anyone know
i think its afropunj
This is Rock Werchter in Belgium
Canta muitoooo 🎶🎼🎵👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
A voz é como uma seda ...de tão suave 🇧🇷 show 🌷
Yes I’ve been under a rock. Glad I came out she’s like the breeze you’ve been wanting to remember why you love sunny 🌞 days
This may be one of the most beautifully done renditions ever done!
Thank God for This is us. Not sure I would've discovered this gem of a cover otherwise.
Omg, you're just amazing! I fell in love with your voice and your talent in general! Thank you!
Amo essa música e interpretada por essa cantora ficou ainda mais linda❤️🌻🇧🇷
I shed a tear every time watching this. The beauty is unreal.

never heard this song covered so beautifully until I heard this.Been following Lianne since I stumbled upon her singing Midnight! What a voice ,her vibrato and tone, and control and vocal range are to die for!Hope to see her LIVE one of these days!
Her Vibrato is simply beautiful 🤩
So natural.
I am confused by the audience participation. How do you not sing the backing vocals?
Talent ....no showboating just pure talent.
I could cry.
So not only does Lianna have a gorgeous voice, she plays guitar too? 🥰😍❤️
Twice post this song on instagram. Nice song and voice tho.
OMG! I subbed the moment she said the first word! This is Angelic!! Love it so much!
This is not an Aretha Franklin song it was Dionne Warrick who sang this It was written by Burt Bacarach for her
Adorável melodia e voz da cantora 🎶🎼🌷🎵👏🏽💐🇧🇷
Strong Jamaican blood running through her veins. You go girl. Loving your debut album.
Lots of stress but hey we survive
LAURYN HILL WITH AN ACCENT, JUST AS BEAUTIFUL AND LOVELY.
Omg what the hell youre tight
Right**
Strange - i didnt know about her all the years . This young lady is absolutely great . The combination of an outstanding voice and her splendid guitarplaying is unique.
You are a superstar
dude, what a voice !!!!!!
so beautiful!!!
Who else is here because of This Is Us? Lol

Yes .... ! ❤😻
Heard her on Instagram and had to stop and do a search … she’s so beautiful and unaffected … stunning girl ! Going to use your version at my wedding ❤
I was just looking at the show”This Is Us”, and I heard the song… I have heard this song many times before. I even try to sing it myself 😂, Lianne La Havas knocks this classic out of the park. PERIOD💕🙏🏽💕
Same here! Rewatching the series and it brought me here!
I needed this today..especially during these times. This song is beautiful
that voice, that emotion and those fingers on that gitar..... sun starts shining when you peform lianne, come back to belgium woon, so I can come stand in the sunshine 😊
Oi hello desde Brasil 🇧🇷 lindas canções vinda voz ! Congratulation
De que país Lianne é!?
I love how the people's clapping starts on 2 and 4, moves to 1 and 3 and back again because of this little 3/4 part (2:53)
yesssss
That bothered me lol. Their clapping sounded off beat
I loved this song when Re Re sang it. I even loved Dionne Warwick'z rendition. Lianna La Hava however takes it to a whole other level!!! This is how you do a cover version. You pay tribute to the artist that gave you the song and you nail it. You have to convince us that we're hearing it for the first time. This is beautiful
I started looking for her when she sings at cold play concert here in New Zealand! You are so amazing! 😍
Just caught this woman opening up for Leon Bridges up in Burlington VT. She played this tune. Nailed it.
I was there too-but didn't make it into her selfie.
I've been a fan since 2012 and was so stoked to see her with Leon Bridges.
I think the crowd really loved and were wowed by her. A great night of music.
One of my favorite songs, covered by one of my favorite artists.
I have NEVER heard or seen something so beautiful in my whole life
Saw her at Crossroads Festival last Sat in Texas. She was a giant amongst giants. Beautiful set - she connected w the audience in a special way.
Watching that very Crossroads concert on pbs, is where I discovered her. And, just saw it for the first time tonight. Excellent show, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Jeff Beck et al. And, Lianna. Wow! She's amazing. I had to look her up. Man, you got to see an excellent concert. I've seen Clapton a few times, including the Cream reunion in 2005, in NYC. But, this one looked solid, too. Very cool. 😎👍
@@waynej2608 Can't wait to check out the dvd. I learned about these great concerts by watching them on PBS over the years, and I always wanted to go to one...I kept my eyes open for the next one and sure enough, I got tickets to the Dallas show. It was definitely a great event to attend - I hope Clapton puts more of these together. People from all over the world attended this show. There was a really cool guitar trade show in the plaza in the afternoon before the show; where you can walk around and look at historic guitars and catch acts like Eric Johnson and John Mayer playing the quad area. Then the concert starts and it's all amazing. BTW - that Cream 2005 concert must have been amazing...I have that dvd and it's killer. Cheers!
Best Cover eveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer
I kinda tore up cause of how beautiful this cover is....
I was talking about the concept of being completely devoted to someone earlier this morning, and then I heard this in the afternoon...sums up devotion beautifully I think.
Men she looks like willow smith haha or willow smith looks like her
This interpretation is sublime. Even our greatest diva, Aretha Franklin, blessed her and Burt Bacharah and Hal David took off their hats!
Like how they start clapping on the one around 2:58 and she slowed the guitar a beat to make them clap right. CLAP ON THE 2 & 4 PEOPLE
Nah it's a bar of 3/4 that's at the end of the first 3 lines of the chorus, it's in the original song.
You can hear people clapping on 2 and 4 at around 2:53, but that gets changed to 1 and 3 after the bar of 3/4.
@@abbreviateddisc I like that some people notice those things
for this she was changing the tempo at will so I would say don't clap, just let her do her thing.
@@abbreviateddisc and then they clap on the 2 and 4 again at 3:03 aaaa music nerds 😍😅
That's all what you need, a good voice ( in this case ) an Angel and a fine working instrument. No big show and stuff like that. Pure Music!!!
When you watch this video and experience this woman's talent just remember that some deep darkness had to happen to create this light,
Although I'm now in my mid-fifties and actually a Jazz fan, I find Lianne's version of the old Burt Bacharach/Hal David song is so captivating. She has so much Jazz in her voice - wow!! Hey Lianne - how about a Bigband album;)...?
She did an orchestra evening on BBC radio with Jules Buckley (2019 or 2020 I believe but I could be wrong) which would go a long way to slaking your thirst.
Vale Burt Bacharach 🍂
May 12 1928 ~ Feb 8 2023 Thanks Lianne for sharing his art with new generations 💙
The guy at 3:27 didn't feel it,
I did - Great song, great voice, great cover :)
