      @@justvid366 it's a very sad shame that EA/Bioware decided to not implement a fleet strategy, unlike what King Theoden did, pulling almost a 1683 Battle of Vienna strategy/Polish Winged Hussars charge to save Gondor/Christian Europe from the Ottomans. Too busy rushing the multiplayer elements of the Mass Effect and not having a solid ending to ME3. Commander Shepard could have played a strategy game like Thrawn in Star Wars, deploying the fleet on how to attack tactically and succeed in penetrating the Reaper forces at Earth.

      Besides the loss of the council, there is actually an interesting change that’s not very noticeable.
      If you save the Council, then you later gain the Destiny Ascention as a war asset. If you leave them to die, then you don’t get it... but the numbers don’t reflect this until you pay attention to the details.
      The Alliance would balance out the loss of the Ascention because you never lost the Fleets destroyed during that battle, thus balancing out the numbers.
      An interesting fact I missed the first few times playing this completely years ago.

    Honestly its still eerie to me: Cerberus was becoming and would became the New Collectors. If everyone else was killed or enslaved to become husks and such, they'd have the Omega 4 base or something similar, and likely be rewritten, and the cycle begins again, except its the remnants of humanity being the drone slaves this time.

      One more reason Mass Effect 2s story sucked.
      Can you imagine if theyd actually taken the time to write your cooperation with Cerberus as far more sinister and contentious? They kept adding handwaves and useless gestures but they should have confronted it more openly and made you question if stopping the collectors was most important.
      I mean the illusive man sacrificed an entire colony and potentially your former teammate and all you can do is whine a little about it afterwards until its brushed off as a "necessary evil".

      @@jmlaw8888 Kinda wish depemdong on the player's decision or disposition, they could be still.working with Cerberus in the third game (sorry i think Cerberus looks AWESOME in game three) but like...break away from Illusive Man, once Shep realizes "Wait you've been indoctrinated the whole time?!" (BECAUSE HE WAS HIT BY THE ARCA DEVICE ON PALAVAN, VIA A COMIC) and manages to convince people who are willing to listen, that Illusive Man doesn't have best intentions in mind.
      So you work to stop the reapers YOUR way, perhaps even with your ME2 teammates joining you too.

    • @WoolliestGaming
      @WoolliestGaming 2 года назад +7

      I know this is way late. But I'm sure that was the Reapers plan. Cerberus already had a crap ton of Reaper Artifacts, and the Illusive man was already obsessed with them at the beginning of ME2. Pretty sure the Reapers planned to have Cerberus be the next collectors after the base exploded. Explains why Harbinger said the Collectors have outlived their usefulness.

    • @Abrxas01
      @Abrxas01 3 года назад

      Not.... really? You gotta think, if Sovereign is successful the fleet and the galaxy is pretty much f'd no matter if you save the ascension or not. Taking out Sovereign on the other hand means the Geth will more than likely retreat. Throwing away forces to save a ship simply because it has a council that sat on it's hands even after they were warned repeatedly, or use everything you have cause even then you don't know it's going to be enough? Answer is simple. Council can get stuffed since they could have taken any number of steps to help prevent or mitigate this problem. Lame duck leadership at it's finest.

      It also doesn't make sense from a purely selfish reason. Saving the Destiny Ascension, even at great cost, showed that Humanity was capable of putting the needs of the galaxy at large over the needs of their own. Much of the council races saw humanity as arrogant and selfish, demanding a seat at the council when they had only just reached the stars. The sacrifice made by the Alliance fleet showed that Humanity was willing to make the commitment to their allies.

    I just realized, a lot of people were unhappy that even in legendary they still did not show the geth fleet turning up at earth for the battle.for earth, just a line by joker saying they reported in. Nor did they show up with the shield fleet escorting the crucible either. Perhaps they were sent to crucial relays away from the sol system to prevent reaper reinforcements from other systems from joining the final battle. My reasoning for this is because they likely possessed the highest number of dreadnoughts left after the reaper invasion given that the geth were never bound by the treaty to limit their number of dreadnoughts and as machines could have churned out massive numbers of such ships over the years in secret. Hence they would make the best blockading force for the battle.

    I think the ending war was a little lacking. I mean, if you gathered all the possible, or at least the major war assets (the fleets, the species and the techonologies) we should be able to have a glimpse of those things taking a part in the war. During the playtrhough down on Earth see Krogan, the criminals from Omega and the Rachni doing something, showing that their pressence was key to achieve some objective, in space see all the types of ships fighting, see one or two Reapers be destroyed to show that the fleets weren't just fodder, at least see one of the Leviathan fighting a Reaper.
    Make it seem like all that "farming" was for something, and that it had meaning.

    • @jameswright4236

      If I'm correct there's a mod for ME3 that depicts the majority of assets in the final holdup before the assault on the Citadel.
      I'd have personally given the opportunity to speak to their representatives, say the Geth Primes reprogrammed thanks to Legion's efforts or even Admiral Raan or Koris of the Quarian fleets.

    I find it invariably ludicrous that all those supposedly technologically advanced ships in supposedly distant future apparently have no guidance systems for their weapons and fire their main guns in line of sight like WW2 fighters (which, realistically speaking, would mean that their chances of hitting any target would be close to zero). I mean WTF? Even contemporary air force would kick their asses, no need for Reapers here.

      Ummm...they DO have guidance systems. They’re called “computers”. As for the guns...well, I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but there are these things called the “Laws of Physics” which basically mean guns HAVE to bed fired line-of-sight. And when you’re up against fighters, yeah, guns probably aren’t the best, but when you’re up against LARGER ships? Such as in, say, a fleet battle? Guns are actually pretty effective. Railguns in particular, like the Alliance uses (I think) would be EXTREMELY effective.

    • @cordar7547
      @cordar7547 3 года назад +11

      They do have guidance systems, but BioWare's terrible when it comes to depicting space battles. Which is why the in-game codex is actively considered higher canon than the cut scenes when it comes to gauging and discussing the feats in Mass Effect. One particular example in the codex is a mention of the Battle of Rannoch where the Quarians shot down Geth stations in Rannoch's orbit from behind the system's star.
      That being said, every ship class has an effective range for their guns. Dreadnoughts for example can reliably hit moving targets from thousands of kilometers away.
      As for why they are only using guns, it's because missiles and fighters are useless within the setting for the most part. The reason being the existence of kinetic barriers and GARDIAN systems - the latter of which are basically point defense laser guns with 100% accuracy rate, which causes battles involving anything smaller than a frigate versus a warship to boil down to battles of attrition where up to dozens of sacrificial waves are sent and promptly blown up until the opposing GARDIAN systems overheat - at which point the warship can simply jump out to the nearest suitable atmosphere to vent excess heat, making all the sacrifices made to destroy it all for nothing. (Which is also why no one ever built dedicated Carriers before the SA showed up, because dedicating entire ships to deploying mass swarms of kamikaze fighters was seen as wasteful)
      Which plays a large part in why mass accelerators are the main weapons used.
      Oh, and as a side note: Nukes don't work in space.

    • @SargeRho

    • @TheGenericDavis

      It IS one of the most heavily guarded places in the galaxy, if not the most. Codex entries state that the Destiny Ascension is the largest ship of any Council race, and the Turians lose 20 cruisers even when you immediately rush to assist them. Sovereign is just WAY more powerful than what they had on hand because Reapers are much more advanced, and Council intelligence services weren't tracking this unknown mega-dreadnought the way they previously keep tabs on ship movements of other races, so they have no idea they need to bring every ship they have to the Citadel right away.
      It's like if there was an aircraft carrier group along with some additional escort vessels parked right off the coast of Washington D.C., but then some undiscovered Chinese carrier 5 times the size of anything the US owns came out of nowhere for a decapitation strike on the US government.
