Scotty Kilmer, your a legendary mechanic. I don't like the electric car's. I'm a gas combustion engine kind of guy. Hahaha 😂😂😂
If I ever were to purchase an EV, it would be made by converting a quality body shell thru such cottage companies such as Zero EV who know a thing or two.
Skotty, when it comes to the Tesla Giga press making the subframe in one piece brings a lot of question to mind about reliability and performance of that component. I had spent most of my life working with the same technology as it's been used for such process. Making a complex piece such as this will be challenging to say the list, but at every turn ratio of aluminum flow adjustment is propense to crack if not process properly and must! have extra support for reliability. Once there's any kind of long-term stress will create fatigue and weaking the structure itself. Throw away Tesla for sure, I'll wait a long time before any consideration if any for anyone to purchase. 🤔
Hey scotty...I've got a question about red and yellow dots on new tires and the proper positioning.
Might make for a future video as well.
To much conflicting info on utube about where to position the dots.
What is the proper position...ty.

"They take the bailout from the government."
NO, NO, NO.
The bailout was from the taxpayers,.
doesnt matter it was paid back with interest within 2 years. companies and individuals take out loans all the time whats the big deal
@@cantwealljustgetalong2 The big deal is that if you or I went to a bank with no way to show we could pay back the loan on our own we would not get a "loan". In a free market, businesses have the right to make money. They also have a right to lose money and go out of business. It is not up to taxpayers to bail them out, regardless of whether the loan was paid.
Look at all the people filing bankruptcy,. Do they just get a bailout?
Yes, the loans were paid back, but they should never have been bailed out in the first place. It's not like people would stop buying cars. We'd just be buying a different brand.
"But we had to bail them out or all those poor people would have lost their jobs"...uh, yeah, they did lose their jobs regardless. Companies do not have an inherent right to exist. They live or die on their own.
@@cantwealljustgetalong2 LOL paid back with interest? Not to us it wasn't, we never got a rebate on GM garbage, they cut labour costs moving production to Mexico and jacked up the prices on their cheap, plastic, dogshit vehicles. The problem with bailouts is it always hurts the tax payer. The government uses money that doesnt belong to them, it belongs to the people.
My fully paid off 25 year old pick-up truck works just fine for me. In fact, people are starting to catch me on the street and offer to buy it!

It’s funny how that works. After all those years taking care of your vehicle someone comes up and ask to buy it. I asked them why? They say cause it’s nice. I was like why not take care of your own vehicle and you could have your own.
@@Rusty1972 Yup!!!!
GM probably don't mind if you never buy a GM car, since the government has already paid them from the taxes they stole from you.

Rates for EVs were on the news in Canada recently talking about rates will skyrocket because of high costs to fix. Scott's right.
I’m so glad that I’m a former GM customer. Their vehicles just aren’t what they used to be decades ago. I became a Toyota customer this year and happy with my decision.
NOTHING is as good as it used to be. everything made today has an expiration date built in so you have to keep buying. I think a lot of people bought new appliances to "update" when they would remodel their kitchen and the new appliances ar braking down, when their old appliances they sold cheap or gave away to be taken away, ar still running strong. It's shameful.

Won't happen. Democrats will always want to protect one of their core voter groups (unions).
GM did the same thing in Australia. The govt gave Holden $20m to keep their factory open. They closed it and imported everything. No-one bought the crap and they went broke and closed Holden down.
Wish we could a seen more of the great Holden models of the 90's and early 2000's outside their native land.
Holden should have been nationalised, along with Ford and Toyota manufacturing here.
It was more like $60 million after many subsidies before that.
@@brianlove8413 nah we shouldn't nationalize anything, then the losses would be endless because tax payers would keep covering their losses. Better to let them go bust, it would be cheaper for everybody

@bassethoundguy3545, it happens in the U.S. assembly plants, too. When they order tools, they figure 3 per shift, and one would go home with the worker.

I work in a dealership collision center and have a work mate whose wife is a high up in an insurance company. You are correct when the Tesla get in minor wrecks, a lot of times she said they total them out.
GM in the 70s made great cars and trucks. My wife's family lived in Flint. Her dad was a foreman in the assembly plant. He and her mother had and raised 8 kids on his salary. 50 years ago I bought my first auto, a Chevy. As long as troubles go, you name it, I got it. Two of them almost killed me. The list is so long you and I don’t have time to get into them. Two years later I traded it for a Honda and I drove it over 200,000 miles and it was still running. I sold it. I am still a Honda fan.
Fifty years ago I was a Toyota mechanic and had been for the six previous years. That experience caused me to lose a lot of respect for American car companies and German car companies. If every car had the place it was made, as well as the country of origin of the ownership, we'd know whether we were getting garbage or not.
In the USA your best option is to buy a 5-10 year old Toyota or Lexus and maintain it yourself. It's easy...

GM. . USA bailed them out. Every US citizen should get a free car or truck.
I like that idea
As long as it's a quality car
if you go by that logic every tax paying american should get a check for a half a million, the amount given to GM was a drop in the bucket compared to how much of our tax money is given to other counries and other organizations that we know nothing about and dont approve of
Yep, a Free Toyota.
Obama likely is the only one who got that "free car or truck". Funny, that nobody has mentioned so far that he masterminded that "bailout" . . with taxpayer funds.
I have no problem with my car not being made by the UAW. The last time I bought a UAW made auto, it arrived and promptly went into the shop for 3 solid months while Ford put on the parts the UAW strikers forgot after returning to work.
Watched the tyre balance bead video. Fascinating
UAW got their new contract. GM and Ford says we'll just move to Mexico 😂
Exactly what I was thinking!
Yep, OK , we will give you auto workers a great new contract with 20% more money in their pay....but we are moving all manufacturing to MExico and you US auto workers are Laid off...Bye Bye
You do know Toyota also builts cars in Mexico right??
GM would be perfectly happy building cars in the US if they could shed the UAW millstone around their neck.
@@DarkForce2024 I had the same thought.
We send our jobs to Mexico, they send us their people, are you kidding me. I won’t miss GM, and I’m like Scotty, I won’t be buying an EV.
They send their people because the US gov tell the Mexican gov to send the cheap labor.
You know they build Toyotas in Mexico too

Hey Scotty I got a great question for you. There's a huge problem in the 04-06 Mazda 3 2.3 hatchback and sedan where the dash cluster gear indicator flickers sporadically after about an hour or so of driving and some times causes the transmission to shift down to 3rd gear and back up to fifth. And I've checked forums high and low and no one can figure it out.
Holden (Australian GM) did the exact same thing! They took bailout and bailed out! Needless to say Australians are NOT Fans of Genital Motors!

This is absolutely true. Despicable. Hello from North Queensland.🇦🇺
Exactly. They took all the taxpayer money and sent it to Detroit instead of making decent cars locally. All they did instead was import crap Korean Daewoos
Yup, if we ever started supporting each other and refuse to purchase stuff that is not made in America, things could change pretty quickly.
No they would just keep raising the price of American made thinking it was good quality. You can't win.
us people i doubt it
The ridiculous regulations and the union crap protecting bad employees tend to chase job’s away. Yes quality is not so good especially at FORD. It would be great if most products for America was built here. However, the masses don’t seem to care where things are built anyway.
I'm with you 100% I look up American made everything before I buy it and IF I can I will buy American. Clothes, shoes, anything. They weren't totaled because of the frame damage. They were totaled because of the Lithium Ion battery damage. Any major wreck and Lithium Ion has to be completely replaced. That's where the market is.
That is S.A.I.C. A joint venture. GM does not even own then. And after the Obama’s lending program , GM executives went hat in hand to get more bailout money from the Chinese.
The deal breaker stipulated by the Chinese was that GM would have to drop their Engineering deal with Korea’s Daweoo and send it all to China. Which they did.
And to top it off , S.A.I.C. also has VW under contract.
Basically all the engineering that was performed by Opel to make subcompacts , a GM USA weak point , go trashed by greed and stupidity, and further worsened by killing Daweoo’s deal.

I drive a 1984 Chevy C-10 daily. Runs good with its new 500hp engine. Dependable too.
RIP Scotty...Thanks for the lessons
Government Motors - Nuff Said
General Mistakes since Hail Mary took over...
They paid back the loans
Tell that to many of the stakeholders who lost their money.
@@user-iq2ng5cq2v NOT really...they SCREWED the bondholders over the preferred union workers
@@michaelkendall662 how did they screw the bondholders? Remember all countries help their manufacturing base. The Japanese in Chinese will manipulate their dollar to give their manufacturing base a competitive advantage..
I’ve refused to even consider buying a GM vehicle since they closed their plant in Oshawa.
They just closed up a GM dealership. Right around the corner from my job . It’s been there for decades NOW. 40 Chevy Silverado trucks. Are all gone. It’s just an empty lot. I still can’t believe it..

I love your channel, it's the best!
They left along time ago. I replaced the check engine lightbulb and the instrument cluster said made in Japan.
your right on the mark again scotty.
Wasn’t there an expression: “What is good for General Motors is good for the country, and what is good for the country is good for General Motors.” Oh, the times they are a changin’.
That quote didn't specify what country.
I like "So goes GM, so goes the country" better
The quote is by Charles E. “Engine Charlie” Wilson, who was head of General Motors in the early 1950’s. He became Secretary of Defense in Eisenhower’s cabinet and served for Ike’s entire first term 1953-1957. This was back when competence and work ethic were recognized as necessary to produce quality products at affordable prices. People weren’t hoodwinked by DEI, woke, self proclaimed ‘social justice warriors, and other 24 karat phony purveyors of destructive nonsense. Amazing there were no boxes to check and you actually had to pass the bar exam to practice law. Tick Tock Tick Tock…
@@sdrc92126 It does sound better, but the quote I gave is what was actually said.
@@jonboz7585 My quote was told to me when I was 5 years old by someone who worked for GM and my dad always repeated it. I guess they didn't really say it to me, just something they used to say hahahahaa
The last GMC I bought was a Yukon back in 2005. Then they took government money during the last crash & I said then, I would never buy from them again. I hope those traders go belly up.
Hey Scotty, where do you get your information??
Funny how he doesn't provide sources huh.
Last I saw Mexico was coming here
Right!!
Only the unemployable criminals are coming here, all the fortune seekers are staying put because that is where the jobs are ending up...
At this point, it's best to learn Spanish if one wishes to travel to the US lol

WHEN Life gets hard in the U.S maybe they will go back to MEH-HE-KÓ and work at GM... WHOOPS WORK¿¿ 🤫🤔
This would be a good time for an entrepreneur to start a company building old-style, old school vehicles. Crank handle windows, vacuum boosted power brakes, points and condenser, air conditioner, CB radio, pull handle seat adjustments, manual transmission. But with new engine tech for fuel economy. Gas or diesel with “scrubbers”. Maybe not the catalytic converter as we know them today.
That doesn't fit into the hypernovel sensibilities of the ocd ruling class
The current government safety regulations would not allow that to happen. The safety standards have changed, thus no way going back to the old ways that are tried and true.
Government will not let them
Or you can just buy a classic car from 1974 or older and have practically unlimited freedom to configure it anyway you want without an iota of pollution controls.
@@jim9930 great idea. good luck.

Hey thanks a lotn. I was wondering about those beads. Here is the answer! You know that after 5 MPH, the centripetal force is more than gravity, so I put them on a bike. I had to cut a hole on the tube to insert them😂
GM lost soooooooooo much money on EV, I am so surprised they are not bankrupt yet at this point. Of course, TAX PAYERS money save them again from the Democrat party! 😂
I drive a great North AMERICAN car.. oh, it’s built in Canada LOL
My current "Japanese" vehicle is more U.S. than "U.S." vehicles 🤣
My 2 Canadian-made GMs from the past were pretty decent. My last GM was Mexican and after their bail-out, what a joke it was, I've been done with GM after that.
Unions have even more power in Canada. Canadian factory owners move their production to the US once the union is too much of a burden and/or government subsidies dry out. If things go sour even in the US, they may try a red state first but eventually go to Mexico or China.
@@lajya01 Canadians have a better work ethic than Americans. Canadian made 'American' cars are actually decent quality.

american made cars are expensive trash. no wonder they moved to mexico. and they will still be trash after they move to mexico!
My AC for my home made in Mexico lasted 1 year and broke. "Quality"
You're not very bright are you? they've been building cars in Mexico for years and in Canada since the late sixties where have you people been?

GMdid the same to the Holden here in Australia 😢
Not before they milked Holden to the last drop. A set of wheels that could be done cheaper in Australia had to be imported from the US, at a higher cost, so US execs could meet their bonus targets.
Certified usually come with a warranty, though.
The stockholders win again! At least in the short term! Great job!
Thank you, Scotty !
