"For Emily".....maybe the most perfect song I've ever heard. What an achievement of creative humanity and God given talent.
totally agree
MAJESTIC
Mind blowing
Agree. I've never heard the song before but what you say, I echo. WOW, Artie sings like an angel.
🥺🥺true...the most beautiful song ever existed
I never get tired of listening to Simon and Garfunkel ( or both of them singing solo ). Garfunkel's voice is so smoothly angelic, but Paul's voice is great, too. The perfect duo. I've listened to them my whole life. Such a treat!
When Art sings on "Emily" it's like listening to an angel. The purity and perfection.
2:43
Do they, even now, truly realize the depth of their talent. So many moments for my generation. Thank Simon and Garfunkel!
So glad I was in That 1960s generation and associating the words of Simon and Garfunkel in their songs of New York City where I was born and raised and knowing these guys were both of the same borough of Queens like myself!
Really, really love Artie’s voice. It’s so perfect. Paul is one of the greatest songwriters , so talented. They are the best duo ever!
Every time I hear Art sing "For Emily," I expect a standing ovation to follow
Their voices are so beautiful, how lucky we are to have them .
🥺🥺❤️❤️
1965 and just about to enlist in the British army, what a time to be young. The Beatles with Simon & Garfunkel were the sixties. The best time to be young.
One is gifted with songwriting, the other is gifted with the angelic voice. They make a perfect pair.
I’m sitting here listening to these two amazing people and I look at the audience and realise that; at that time I wouldn’t have been allowed to sit in the audience. Thank heaven for RUclips. They touch me greatly with their wonderful sounds. Each word has meaning, so powerful. Nothing like some of the empty lyrics you hear today.
Why wouldn't you have been allowed to sit in the audience?
If I could sing like any singer it would definitely be Art Garfunkel ,his voice is a gift from Heaven.
To this day, there is no duo that can harmonize better than Simon and Garfunkel. They are truly a gift to the world. There is deep meaning to all that Paul writes......
There is an intensity to Garfunkel's voice that makes it much more than just pretty. Simon is simply a brilliant guitarist. He can carry the entire concert with that one instrument like an orchestra.
Exactly, it's a special tension, as if he's declaiming a fundamental truth to people, a prayer or a poem, something we needed and were searching for, but were not aware till we heard it. Something crafted by the unique and poignant writing, and playing of Simon, and created by the perfect, misterious simbiosys of their two voices, of their souls...
They are quite unique in music.
He's a Scorpio so intensity is his middle name.
SO TRUE.
פול הוא המוכשר..ארט יש לו קול יפה אבל פול עושה הכל
I reckon Paul Simon is more than simply a great guitarist lol😂
You know, Paul Simon is just a beast of a guitar player, it gets overlooked.
500 yrs. From now these guys will be remembered. Hopefully.
The magic moments begin when Art starts to sing.
Absolutely... He was blessed with the voice of an angel. Together, they have given their fans an infinity of awesome music. Love them. Paul's songwriting and marvellous gituar playing gave Art's voice wings... And doesn't his voice fly. 😍
@@patriciabarnes7034 I grew up in the sixties, so I've listened to them all my life. I can't get over how beautiful their harmonies were, but the big thing that always gets me is Paul's guitar playing. How does he do that? It's like the highest possible level of folk guitar playing. He makes it look easy, but OMG that is top flight guitar playing.
@@continentalgin truly
We shan't see their like again. How fortunate we were to listen to their wonderful music.
I didn't even know Paul had a brother so
watching them play together here was a
real treat.
Paul and his brother look like twins. Look at their right sideburns. Looks identical. Facial features look similar, too.
神業です。ガーファンクルの優しさ、控えめの出演が素晴らしいハーモニーです。ギターも。全く飽きないです。
These songs will be on planet earth 500 years from now long after nasty rap music was long forgotten.
Artie, the young man with the most magnificent, angelic voice ever. Young Paul and Art, they were also very cute. Magnificent song and Art certainly gave it wings. I wonder if they ever watch these old videos? So young and talented...Legends.
Is anyone also listening to good classics during the quarantine - Covid 19 2020?
I'm only listening to Simon&Garfunkel. I can't get enough.
2020 yes, and still listening in 2021.
Just got my second shot.
2021..There will never be another Simon and Garfunkel
Simon & Garfunkel used to play at pretty small venues, I remember seeing them twice at Eastern Illinois university, great concerts.
John Carter How nice to see them in a quaint setting. Fitting for the subject of the music.
Beautiful melody, perfect harmony, and meaningful words. They are the very best duo ever.
Simon and Ed look like twins! I never knew he had a brother.
Me neither !! I wonder why they never did an album featuring the two of them.
One of the best duets in the history of popular music.
Duos... repeat offenders.
Yup exactly
True
The best
THE BEST DUO
"Simon/Garfunkel/1968" - I knew this was gonna be great! 🙂I just like to watch Art "breathe" because he has so much control over his voice. And then there were 2 Pauls!!👍🏾🌹 Bravo
Each of us are born into this world with a complete unknown where we are going to end up. Along that path, we endure trials and tribulations that we have to overcome to succeed. Simon and Garfunkel filled that need , with music that , if you welcome it, can help one overcome adversity. True talent that in some ways will never be repeated. Thanks for helping me get through it all
You are so right, that's what their music do, it's music for our aching, burning, wandering souls. Bless them
How have I lived to be 60, and listened to Paul Simon and S&G my whole life, and never knew that Paul had a brother named Ed who played guitar? I wonder whatever happened to him...
stunning !!! pauls flawless guitar work, the songwriting, the heartfelt vocals, OMG !!!!
Yeah, OMG that guitar work! Astonishing!
Paul has always been so underrated as a guitarist.
I dare any of today's so called musicians and singers sound this good live...No computer pitch correction. Just pure live talent.
Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell ... just to name a few, it is very hard to come by these giants. Paul Simon sure is in the same league.
Agreed.. Simon and Garfunkel were the best duo ever..
Where's the band? This is not live, or if it is it was heavily augmented with stupid players. The Sounds of Silence is live.
You know it!
Without Fakin' it, probably not
Garfunkel was the voice. But Simon was the genuis.
my God, they look like twins, why did we NEVER EVER hear of this man again???
Simon and his brother are great
Younger brother, but look like twins.
The way I remember it ...the way it used to be....when life was new and the upcoming music was transitional for the times...now at 68 I watched this and "I remember when..."
Well said. Absolutely!
This is absolutely, wonderful! What great talent these men have!
Ahhh...youth is a wonderful thing. Creating music and singing so beautifully...like it’s nothing. Great memories, thank you!
I saw S & G live in Pittsburgh in 1966 or 1967 when we were all college age- great memories!
Was it loud?
five minutes into this and I am already astonished. These guys are not much more than kids writing and performing great poetry that helps define an era, and transcends that same era, as literature tends to do, which they put to notes on the musical scale. And then they sang that creation with a purity and simplicity that expresses it all.
I totally agree with your assessment. And - you expressed your views with perfection.
Well said, I agree, what a beautiful song🎶💓🎶🌼
They were a duet for year in the late 50s-early 60s. In fact, they broke up after making the first LP. Hits from that got them beack togehter. In other wrds, they weren't that young in 1968.
They're not kids, they're nearing 30 here.
They look like babies, but my goodness, what magnificent talent there is between them. Love them.
I always thought how still Art looks during his preformances. He gets totally lost in his singing... Total concentration and never, nor seldom taps his feet or shake his tail feather, so to speak. He looks like the shy intervert, yet, I think Paul is shy too but, there's something behind Paul's eyes, and a look on his face that is as deep and complex as an ocean.
Love all the songs these two did together... Still do and still listening to them today Their voices were made to go together. March 2021.
To have one Paul in this world was already awesome...! BUt now theres two of them!! This is too good to be true
Few words: they are an important part of my life
just shows what a great acoustic guitarist is paul simon as well as singer and what a clear singer is art garfunkel. very respectful audience.
With the crap music today it is sure nice to see true musicians.I'm 58 and enjoy this it brings back memories of being a kid.
Simon is a vastly underrated guitarist
Respectfully, from Wikipedia - "In 2011, Rolling Stone named Simon one of the 100 greatest guitarists"😊
When was he underrated?
What a find!!! Thanks for posting this treasure! Never knew Paul had a brother with such talent, too! Miss Art's sweet voice.
Paul's brother, Ed, is actually the better musician. He first taught Paul how to play the guitar.
Poignant poetry and haunting music combined, what a genius!
Could Artie's voice be any more amazing?
The best voice of all time
Any more amazing and he'd surely be an angel. A once in a lifetime voice.
I saw Art in concert once and it felt like the walls were vibrating from the power of his voice, he was amazing
Born with perfect pitch. Hits precisely the right notes every time. Unbelievably rare talent. Enunciation, articulation, it's all perfect.
You should hear his son, Art Jr.
The Sounds of Silence literally has been the leitmotif that has inspired my entire life...and incredible piece of music...
One of the greatest songs ever written, to be sure. "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls, and tenement halls." Left me speechless when I first heard them as a boy growing up in the 60s. Still affect me now.
The drumming is …perfect. I mean, it’s a small part of the whole. But - it in itself it is perfection. The whole would be less for any other drum piece.
Saw this when first telecast: now on 3-31-2020,I'm watching it for the second time and the CONTENT is revelent TODAY as it was THEN!!!!!!!
where did the years go?
What's to say except that it's so pure, elegant, unique, & utterly beautiful.... no one like them
How are there 34 people alive that could dislike this?
democrats
Wish I could go back to those days!
They make it look so easy.
No, no strings For Emily! Art’s voice gives us all the emotion we need.
Artie is a cutie! They are not crowd pleasers but the moment they start singing , just the amazing harmony speaks for itself.
Best duo EVER..., Paul Simon is an absolutely awesome song writer....
as well as a guitar player....
And, I don't think I've ever heard a better voice than Art Garfunkle....AMAZING!
I agreed on Paul's songs being some of the best ever written........but the Everly Brothers are the best vocal duo ever........ask Paul Simon,he'll tell you!
I genuinely believe Paul Simon could depict better imagery and evoke more emotion than Dylan, Lennon and McCartney.
Heinkle you can't deny his imagery!Sounds of Silence has the best lyrics as far as a song playing a "movie in your head"if you get my drift!
Thanks for putting this on RUclips. I missed it the first time around. It's amazing.
Wow! I just stumbled over this piece of old film on here. I remember listening to these songs on the radio way back then and loved the special sound I heard. Their music has accompanied me throughout my life and has given me great pleasure and peace along the way. This film has a purity to it that I have never seen before. The biggest surprise was seeing Paul's brother playing along. I didn't even know he existed. Fantastic to watch this and I will watch this over again and again. Wonderful!
There are few things down here close to perfection. Their synergy is one, doubtless.
Such a beautiful voice and handsome man. He has it all.
I am talking about Artie.
holy crapoli there be two paulie simons in dis ting
The setting was so cool. Wish I was there.
Hands down, one of the best duos to ever hit the music scene, Paul's creativity drawing from rhythms and melodies worldwide, and Art's stunning vocals second to none. Even after splitting up, they continued to move and exhilarate us with their individual talents, and I personally consider Art's solo efforts to rank his best, and among the finest offerings of that genre. I dare anyone to sit through his "Breakaway" album without getting misty eyed.
Gave me goosebumps.... Absolutely Incredible. 👊💚👊
Absolutely brilliant even more so 56 years later
Beautiful music Paul and Art So Amazing Angel voices
Paul Simon had a way of writing of some of the best lyrics in songs. 'we're just a habit like saccharine" written by Paul Simon. Hehe. He is a gifted genius.
Brings back memories from lon ago. I saw this on TV. So happy i grew up in this era.
The 35 thumbs down grew up only knowing rap, no musicians or singing talent. But this is now, in far off yesterdays talent meant something else.
Nothing like them today, and few matched them then... so, so special
He looks more like Paul Simon than Paul Simon!!
It's interesting how different the phrasing is in this performance of The Sound of Silence compared to the recording and many live shows. It proves how professional they were in each and every performance where they happened to be. Never missed a beat. Wish l was older when they were most visible because l would've appreciated them more.
Wow, they're even better than I thought!
“For Emily”is just heavenly ….#genius
Brilliant..... There’s nothing more to say
14:43 "there are other songs that go beyond one person"😍 The sound of silence could not be better described!
Paul Simon recently posted "The Boxer" performed in his home. The old man, almost 80, still has it.
saw that too
OMG. I saw that, and was almost in tears. He also did a recent video of American Tune, and I started to cry. It really got to me.
Do you have the link?
That’s a whole lot of talent right there!
I saw this at the time. One of their best live performances, very human.
Paul Simon is recognized as a top top acoustic guitars musician!
Music worth listening to
So needed this today. I grew up with these two.
I didn't really pick up on Paul Simon until I was in high school in the 80s then started to listen to his earlier music w/ Art.
Yes, what a range Artie has. I just awoke to Kathy's song.
Thanks a million for posting.
For Emily at 2:30
otherworldy.... Art's pitch is immaculate
I think this is their greatest song.
yes and a heartfelt emotive delivery!!! transcendent !!
@@writereducator
BINGO
Art Garfunkel has the best voice ever..
@@writereducator I wouldn't go that far, great yes but The Sounds of Silence and Scarborough Fair I would put before Emily..
These guys are our friends and touchstones. I still have my 45 of I am a Rock.
So lucky to have been around when these voices emerged as the Empire collapsed.
Took me back to when I was 19. Thank you/ It gave me goosebumps. They truly were unique.
I agree. These guys are great! Love listening to all their songs. Thanks for posting.
I remember those two. I miss the music of that time.
They practiced as kids, wanting to sound as ‘family/related’ as the Everly Brothers. They have always exceeded that bar.
How after all these years this is the first time hearing about Paul Simons guitar playing brother
No kidding? They look like twins!
I took introductory guitar lessons from Eddie Simon in Manhattan in the 70s.
He had The Guitar Study Center in NY years ago
Honestly for a moment I thought this was an outtake from a sci-fi flick where he had momentarily just cloned himself - they looked so alike.
Absolutely documental. Thank you very much.
Amazing....simply amazing!!!
Totally captivating and no need for any ridiculous stage setting which now have to be compulsory for concert shows in order to over compensate and distract the audience from the lack of song quality and talent that they are observing. This is just two young men with real song writing and singing talent!!!
Thank you for posting!!
Genuis' with lyrics, writing and playing along with incredible harmonies
Imagine being there. This time in history. These songs. Just epic.
But would you know...?
Together they were unmatched.
that rendition of "Sounds" (14:45) was better than any other I've heard. strong, powerful, moving. wow. just wow
