I see a lot of people leaving comments showing how concerned they are about Death Battle's future. It's unclear, but I do feel more optimistic than most. That's why I left the ending note the way it was because I felt like it was written in a way that celebrates how far they've come. Though yes, I do believe that season 11 will happen regardless, even if it's gonna be released in mid-May like season 10 was. Also, I fucked up a bit at 27:11. When I say "people [who are] calling these newer animations janky", I'm referring to people who are saying Death Battle in general has bad animation and choose not to elaborate. Just a beautiful review all around that gave me an even greater appreciation for this episode than I already had. I think my favorite part about this episode is that Ahreadbhar only breaks after Dimitri uses it 20 times. That is such a minor attention to detail and I love the episode a lot more for it.

As Mr. Guts VS Dimitri himself (I basically pushed this matchup and comm’d the Brandon Yates track) I absolutely loved this. Going into great detail about the episode, and even pulling out things I didn’t even notice myself in the animation or analysis before, and I’ve watched it so many times and caught onto more and more things, and I’m still learning more too. Glad you loved this episode, I loved it too, it’s my all time favorite.

It was so nice to hear someone else talk about the scene where Dimitri and Guts both go ham. Its crazy when you realize just how much alike they are, and it builds up to one of the greatest "He's just like me!" Scenes ever made and i fucking love it so much! ❤ You definitely earned my sub with this vid!
One thing I think is looked over is God’s hand, specifically what the name God’s hand is referring to since it’s a key thing in the lyrics. It’s obvious for Guts, the god hand is essentially the main villains of berserk (especially since Griffith joined). But Dimitri took me a bit to get, but I think it’s referring to Byleth, since he is kind of god. Specifically because Byleth giving Dimitri his hand is a big turning point in the Blue Lions path. Which makes the part about God’s hand “pushing us toward the end” take two opposite meanings; Guts it’s talking about how his enemies are trying to get him, but Dimitri it’s about how Byleth is helping him.
Haven't watched the video, but I just wanted to say this beforehand. Guts Vs. Dimitri holds a special place in my heart. After several years being disillusioned by Death Battle and the Versus community in general, I completely checked out of the show and everything surrounding it around Season 4 or 5, only checking in whenever a match up that was relevant to me popped up. One of those times was Ben 10 Vs. Green Lantern, and as someone who grew up with and loves both I was more than a little disappointed with how everything turned out. However, I glanced at Season 10 (I think I watched Dark Souls Vs. Skyrim, could have been afterward) until I saw Guts Vs. Dimitri show up and, as a stalwart Fire Emblem fan, I decided to check it out. What happened next, no joke, ignited a love for Death Battle that I hadn't had until then. I began catching up on every episode I missed, I began watching RUclipsrs like Biff Weed, Nemesis, and of course, Jon. The video inspired me to make my own videos talking about possible match ups for every fire emblem lord, which turned into my most consistently successful videos and made me feel genuinely thrilled to be continue making videos at a time I was feeling disheartened by a lack of success. And it all came back to this episode. So regardless of how things go in the future, where Death battle heads, or how the community changes. I will always be grateful and inspired by this episode and I am glad that so many other people feel the same way.
Guts vs Dimitri is so goddamn good, not only did it come out on my birthday. But I got to share it with an irl friend who loves Fire Emblem and didn’t really care for Death Battle. I never expected an episode with a matchup in a vacuum I don’t really care about to be so special to me but thats what’s great about Death Battle ig, full of surprises.
Although it is my number 8 in my Season 10 ranking, I believe Guts vs Dimitri is another awesome masterpiece in this season. Everything (analysis, fight, God’s Hand, and the ending) is awesome!
Very much love the appreciation given to Guts vs Dimitri in this video. Even if I feel there are some episodes that resonated with me a little more than this one, I still very much greatly enjoyed it as among my favorites of the season. Guts had such a strong redemption compared to his last outing, and seeing Fire Emblem being in DB was very cool to see.
This season is so good though I will say my overall thought on that in you eventual ranking video of that season, for now, I just want to say, man this episode blew my mind, especially that ending. i watched death battle ever since i was a kid but i honestly fell out of it really hard around season 8-9. i just couldn't get into the episodes, the post-torrian new animators animation and ideas and writing just didn't resonate with me anymore, i just got bored of it i also can't deny, nintendo is my favorite thing to see in death battle, so the total lack of nintendo at all in season 9 just absolutely obliterated my hype and interest. then i heard "dimitri's gonna be in death battle" and oh my goodness. i ignored all the disappointment i felt from death battle. fire emblem is one of my all time favorite series. we're finally getting another nintendo death battle and it has a FIRE EMBLEM character. i was SHOOK and REALLY REALLY HAPPY and oh my goodness it got me back in all the way. the writing, animation, research, detail, everything. it was just. perfect to me. it was so fantastic i loved it so much. guts vs dimitri made me a death battle fan again. it's probably my favorite death battle episode of all time. i love it so much. i dont even know what berserk is.

...Well I'll be damned. I honestly thought your new favorite episode was Scooby vs Courage since I've heard you express how much you love that episode before. But for real, this is such an amazing analysis of this episode. Guts vs Dimitri is an episode that means a lot to me because it's what got me to become a Fire Emblem fan (which is impressive considering I've been a Smash fan since Brawl), made me interested in checking out Berserk, and how's it's just a phenomenal episode with an incredible fight, with the last minute of it having two of my favorite scenes in all of death battle. It's currently in my top 4 favorite episodes of all time behind Goku vs Superman 3, Dante vs Bayonetta, and Dio vs Alucard. Also, I just wanted to express that your videos have been some of the best DB related videos I have ever seen. The superb editing and the attention to detail when your analyzing something make for a fun watch every time. I can't wait to see how you rank season 10 with that in mind. But wait, you said that Winter is the best season when it's clearly the worst and Fall stomps on all fronts so nvm, 0/10 video, will not be seeing the season 10 ranking.

Possibly Rick vs The Doctor but that's mainly me just being a massive R&M fan (I wonder what gave it away) with my only real complaints of the episode being Rick's analysis was too short Rick getting caught by the Sonic Screwdriver twice in the animation was a bit weird alongside him letting the Doctor monologue. I'm going to be honest I'm not even a big fire emblem or berserk fan But this episode is easily in my top five of all time so that shows how good it is.
Another really good matchup with thematic similarity to Guts vs Dimitri would be Velvet Crowe (Tales of Berseria) vs Clive Rosfield (Final Fantasy XVI). Both of them are action JRPG protagonists from the 16th games of their respective series with a significantly darker tone to stand out, who wield blades and demonic arms on a quest for vengeance after a tragedy in which their younger brothers were killed and their aforementioned demonic arms manifested in the aftermath, only to discover that the circumstances behind the tragedies that befell them were not exactly as it seemed to them, and eventually come to terms with said revelation and end up struggling against gods who schemed to strip humanity of free will.
I remember when I first watched it, when the fight ended, I legitimately stood up, clapped, and announced out loud, "Best ending they've EVER done!!" and you know what? I STILL stand by that.
My only problem with this episode beside some of the animation is not using to other half of their connection that they were brought back from the darkness by people that they love only the sallowed by darkness It’s used in the gods hand with “what you got to lose, what you, what you got to lose” with the slight stutter of the second what you got to lose showing the have something to use So how do we fix this? The answer is we are gonna have to change the ending of the insanity scene that it still starts with them hear the voices of the dead starting to lose it but then hear the voices of those who’s alive telling them to stay alive and change the final line being something like “I will even if I have to kill every last one of them” then they go insane and it changes the final clash from to beast just trying to kill each other to two beast fighting to get back to those they need to protect. The best thing about this is that you only change one scene and the feel of the rest of the fight changes while the fight itself stays the same down to the ending
I really hope they do Byleth vs Rean Schwarzer for Season 11 or so as the next episode with a Fire Emblem character, especially we got that really good first one with Guts vs Dimitri. Both characters share so many interesting and compelling connections with each other, but the main theme of this matchup is that they are both JRPG protagonists who are renowned professors of prestigious military academies, who are excellent at swordsmanship and tactics and happen to be vessels for divine entities. It would be so awesome to have two badass university professors with a PhD in asskicking to clash with each other with their incredibly diverse array of abilities and their brilliant tactical prowess.
This was a great analysis. I'm curious to wonder what will be the next fe death battle. I've thought about my own ones and I've seen othets but I think if they were do another one, I would love to see Felicia and Flora from fe fates vs Ram and Rem from Re zero. (Talk about a tonal whiplash)
The hype for this fight was unbelievable Three Houses turned me into a JRPG fan and took hundreds of hours of my life and Berserk is Berserk so seeing my top 5 favorite franchises fighting with some of their best written characters fighting (Guts should have won tho)

It's more so that they forgot to give Strange a multi+ feat given how Wiz claims that they were even in power and how the research team claims that the decision was a 51/49 split, but I felt that wording it that way was funnier.
I don’t care if I haven’t watched further into the video, I just want to point out that there was a joke going on when this episode was being made, and the jokes was related to Dimitri fans wanting Dimitri to lose. I think this is one of the only times where fans wanted their character to fail.

The part at the very end when I showed a scan of Ben saying that he made a Soul Calibur film script. The fan fiction thing was a hyperbolic bit I did as a means of getting back at Ben for calling me Frostathong on a livestream once.
Season 10 easily is their best season thus far For me, there were dream matches I always wanted, ones I didn't know I needed and a few I had no interest in but still loved. Those being Cole v Alex, DragonBorn v Chosen Undead & The Doctor vs Rick, respectively The latter especially was a shock for me. No interest in either franchise but it ended up being my 3rd favorite fight, period and that was not an easy bar to surpass This show I have watched for years since my best friend first showed me the Pokémon Starter episode. My husband and I have watched this together at times (we got a Brandom commish in the pipes) and i have 3 dream fights I'd k*ll to animate myself. This show means a lot in a way If season 10 sadly ends up being the last season, then what a fucking hell of a season to go out on. Even if it's not, this season is forever a highlight Even it's worst still ended up being real damn good ♡ what more could we ask for

I'm not even a Fire Emblem, or Berserker fan, but the SECOND I finnished off this episode I proudly considered it my favorite of the season. Until the funny dog episode came along
On the matter of scaling, my personal issue is the false equivalences given. There's no way of proving that Edelgard's Hegemon form is equivalent to her strength with Amyr, nor that her with Amyr contributing to killing Rhea deals with the same durability that Rhea had against the Javelins of Light, NOR that that durability feat actually scales against the Javelins' destructive power. In general I tend to disagree with the powerscaling community about when feats & scaling are appropriate. They tend to scale things beyond what actually makes sense for their series' intended power level (i.e. Dimitri being stronger than a nuke).
The javelins themselves were wanked to oblivion. We see the full damage of one from both above and below at shambala in the same cutscene rhea is hit. It barely destroyed a few trees.
Also, the speed scaling for both dimitri and guts was absolute bs. Any speed scaling that’s only supported by “dodging lasers or magic spells” is automatically ridiculously when without that, they have no superspeed feats whatsoever and it would completely break their verses. Also saying that dimitri was city level because he tanked a DIFFERENT SPELL that attacks you with negative emotions.
@@firenze6478 Yeah, dodging attacks is typically a reflex feat (specifically reacting to the attacker preparing the attack, not the attack itself), not a pure speed feat.
@@tehesprite502 we also see arrows move at the same speed as these so called ftl attacks. And magic in fire emblem does damage based on resistance which is mental power, not defense which is physical.

One thing I will mention that was an issue for the animation itself was Dimitri using Ice Magic, which is something he never uses in game, but I do love this episode and does justice to Dimitri and, from what I have heard from my friends, does a great job for Guts.
Great video, and on that point about asta being in character, as a black clover fan, I'd say not at all. He's acts too much like a meathead, he stabs deku's corspe for no reason when he wouldn't do that, and they didn't even have him say "im not done yet" or "not yet", like come on.
I enjoyed this death battle a lot. I love that they did justice to both characters. Especially after what they did to my boy, Asta. The only criticism I have for the episode is it follows the Principle of Polearms. Then again, so does everything.
@@vaggos2003 Regarding media: 1) A polearm wielder is destined to lose when battling any other weapon. 2) If a polearm wielder wins against all odds, their polearm will be broken by the end.
@@vaggos2003 It follows Rule 2 as Areadbhar breaks before winning. The Principle of Polearms is an observation I’ve had in media and have yet to see it fail. I personally view as negative because polearms are my favorite weapon but can never catch a break. The principle itself is just an observation, however.

@@lestatcanada a lot in my opinion, the animation, the way they did the characters (I think it would’ve been better if it guts and dimitri after their whole emo stage), the music, scaling was really bad both both of them and that’s including the gear and weapons they gave them especially dimitri who got magic and abilities he either doesn’t get in the main game or doesnt canonically have access to without the player choice, and the ending of the battle
They were both wanked to oblivion too. Dodging magic and sound doesn’t make characters with no other feats of superspeed ftl. The logic of scaling dimitri to light javelins could be used to scale wolverine to infinity guantlet. Also, they completely ignored the scaling of the shambala roof ( which was in the same cutscene rhea got hit in) to wank it millions of times greater in a feat where we don’t even know how many were launched. And they gave dimitri city level durability because he tanked a spell from a wizard whose earthquake spell shook the screen. Only earthquakes damage you by dropping rubble on you, also, DIMITRI TANKED AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SPELL! The spell he tanked wasnt even physical, dark magic attacks you with severe negative emotions that eat at your soul like despair.
I always considered Death Battle as just a usual power scaling channel with an animation budget backed by WB considering the amount of research they do for the characters heavily leans in one character's favor normally.... Well not so budget-backed anymore considering the tanking of RT😂

Anyone who has any criticism for our show in the slightest is just a hater." The fact they literally milked the Goku vs. Superman bit THREE TIMES was proof of them being lazy with research and quality.

By his own words, the original Goku vs Superman is a classic and an important stepping stone to the series, but the episode, and especially the conclusion, although interesting for the time objectivily do not hold up with how the team does scaling and stuff nowadays. Plus, Goku vs Superman 2 was never meant to be a "sequel", but rather an afternath that would present 20 minutes of footage from the original that were cut for pacing issues. Unfortunately, the episode ended up being presented as a sequel, a decision that Ben regrets, and by his admission accidentally disresoected Superman and kicked Dragon Ball fans while they were down, leaving no one satisfied. Goku vs Superman 3, or more accurately Goku vs Superman: The Reboot, was meant to be a fresher take on the matchup that would hood up better against the passage of time as well as allowing the team to leave this matchup that meant so much to them, the series and the channel on better terms with an episode that they could be proud of. If you don't buy all that, well, do as you wish, obviously. Those were my 2 final cents on it.
The scaling logic for both dimitri and guts was wack though. Both db versions would be like superman in their actual worlds. They even completely ignored the scaling of the light javelins at shambala to wank them into infinite by using aliel instead which is already a bad comparison since you could use the same scaling to make wolverine universal by claiming he beat hulk who beat thanos therefore wolverines strength is = to infinity gauntlet.
but dimitri is directly shown overpowering edelgard, which a lesser version directly overpowered rhea. The logic does make sense because it's actually SHOWN dimitri is stronger than Edelgard- at least in that route.
@@FranTheNerd edelgard didn’t directly overpower rhea. In the cutscene, rhea is barely able to move because its at the end of the battle in which edelgard had an entire army with several relics. (which the agarthaans specifically made to kill dragons) and she had byleths help delivering the final blow. Dimitri also has an army and the cutscene takes place after edelgard was already defeated. The assumption that they soloed their final bosses is only an assumption because the real reason the army isn’t shown is because the army could be made up of numerous different characters. And assuming in powerscaling isn’t viable. Also, rhea was wanked millions of times greater herself since in the same cutscene rhea barely survives being caught in the outskirts of a light javelin, we see the direct aftermath of one from both above and below in the roof of shambala which barely encompassed a few trees in its destructive radius. ( we never see aliel, nor do we know how many javelins were used, and sothis was there and could have been partially responsible, plus you have to completely ignore shambala which is the only fully viewable javelin feat that we see and happens in the same cutscene rhea gets hit in. Ignoring this is blatant and intentional wank.

@@FranTheNerdthey both do that with literal armies, and neither Edelgard or Dimitri were fighting alone. Dimitri also is canonically killed by generic soldiers with spears by just stabbing him multiple times which is a significant lower durability feat.
A shame I couldn't make it to the premiere, but this was an amazing video discussing one of the best episodes of the shows history. It may not be my favorite episode of the season or of all time (though it is still up there), but the fact that you brought up so many details in the analysis and fight that I didn't even consider has to count for something.

As a Fire Emblem fan I'm not a fan of it mostly because I don't agree with the feats they gave Dimitri. Dimitri isn't that fast or strong. No Dimitri isn't light speed because he can dodge faith magic and no he can't tank missiles because him backed up with an army can defeat Edelgard who can when backed up with an army can defeat a dragon that survived being attacked with missiles but yet somehow can still die to generic soldiers being able to stab him to death with normal spears
@vaggos2003 it's not an outlier, every route except for AM Dimitri dies, VW it is explicitly because soldiers stabbed him to death, CF it is because he failed to fight off Edelgard's army and is executed by Edelgard, and in SS it is off screen but is implied to be the same fate he faced in VW and was only off screen due to Byleth not being on Gonder Field in that route. Even in AM he was at risk of being stabbed to death by a child and was only saved by his father figure jumping in to take the blow instead. We have more routes of him dying or at risk of death to normal people compared to routes where you can at least say his cause of death is someone that can be scaled to high levels of strength.
@@sam7559Death Battle does present characters at what they perceive to be them at their consistently strongest, buuuuuut I don't know anything about Fire Emblem, so I don't know how powerscaling works there, so I won't comment further on that.
@vaggos2003 the issue is that in Three Houses we see the stats of a generic villager and due to the way stats work short of having a crest a generic villager can do pretty much every feat given to Dimitri just maybe with less consistency. They can dodge light based attacks, tank meteors, damage and possibly kill Rhea which scales them to Dimitri. They're stats are low but Fire Emblem works on a system of low enough numbers that you can offen still do stuff. Heck one example of a challenge run I've seen is people beating the game with zeros in specific stats like strength or speed
I feel like Death Battle is one of the handful of people who are starting to realize, just because your on the internet doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want
I see a lot of people leaving comments showing how concerned they are about Death Battle's future. It's unclear, but I do feel more optimistic than most. That's why I left the ending note the way it was because I felt like it was written in a way that celebrates how far they've come. Though yes, I do believe that season 11 will happen regardless, even if it's gonna be released in mid-May like season 10 was.
Also, I fucked up a bit at 27:11. When I say "people [who are] calling these newer animations janky", I'm referring to people who are saying Death Battle in general has bad animation and choose not to elaborate. If anyone wants to pick apart a specific episode and explain why they think its fight scene looks janky, by all means, do it! I do that, too! There was supposed to be a block of text addressing this, but my dumbass got too impatient with the post-production and I completely neglected how fanboyish this sounds. My b.

I think my favorite part about this episode is that Ahreadbhar only breaks after Dimitri uses it 20 times. That is such a minor attention to detail and I love the episode a lot more for it.

One thing I think is looked over is God’s hand, specifically what the name God’s hand is referring to since it’s a key thing in the lyrics.
It’s obvious for Guts, the god hand is essentially the main villains of berserk (especially since Griffith joined).
But Dimitri took me a bit to get, but I think it’s referring to Byleth, since he is kind of god. Specifically because Byleth giving Dimitri his hand is a big turning point in the Blue Lions path.
Which makes the part about God’s hand “pushing us toward the end” take two opposite meanings; Guts it’s talking about how his enemies are trying to get him, but Dimitri it’s about how Byleth is helping him.
Isn't his main weapon also part of the hand of a dead god or something?

Haven't watched the video, but I just wanted to say this beforehand.
Guts Vs. Dimitri holds a special place in my heart. After several years being disillusioned by Death Battle and the Versus community in general, I completely checked out of the show and everything surrounding it around Season 4 or 5, only checking in whenever a match up that was relevant to me popped up. One of those times was Ben 10 Vs. Green Lantern, and as someone who grew up with and loves both I was more than a little disappointed with how everything turned out.
However, I glanced at Season 10 (I think I watched Dark Souls Vs. Skyrim, could have been afterward) until I saw Guts Vs. Dimitri show up and, as a stalwart Fire Emblem fan, I decided to check it out. What happened next, no joke, ignited a love for Death Battle that I hadn't had until then. I began catching up on every episode I missed, I began watching RUclipsrs like Biff Weed, Nemesis, and of course, Jon.
The video inspired me to make my own videos talking about possible match ups for every fire emblem lord, which turned into my most consistently successful videos and made me feel genuinely thrilled to be continue making videos at a time I was feeling disheartened by a lack of success. And it all came back to this episode.
So regardless of how things go in the future, where Death battle heads, or how the community changes. I will always be grateful and inspired by this episode and I am glad that so many other people feel the same way.

Guts vs Dimitri is so goddamn good, not only did it come out on my birthday. But I got to share it with an irl friend who loves Fire Emblem and didn’t really care for Death Battle. I never expected an episode with a matchup in a vacuum I don’t really care about to be so special to me but thats what’s great about Death Battle ig, full of surprises.
Although it is my number 8 in my Season 10 ranking, I believe Guts vs Dimitri is another awesome masterpiece in this season. Everything (analysis, fight, God’s Hand, and the ending) is awesome!

i watched death battle ever since i was a kid but i honestly fell out of it really hard around season 8-9. i just couldn't get into the episodes, the post-torrian new animators animation and ideas and writing just didn't resonate with me anymore, i just got bored of it
i also can't deny, nintendo is my favorite thing to see in death battle, so the total lack of nintendo at all in season 9 just absolutely obliterated my hype and interest.
then i heard "dimitri's gonna be in death battle" and oh my goodness. i ignored all the disappointment i felt from death battle. fire emblem is one of my all time favorite series. we're finally getting another nintendo death battle and it has a FIRE EMBLEM character. i was SHOOK and REALLY REALLY HAPPY
and oh my goodness it got me back in all the way. the writing, animation, research, detail, everything. it was just. perfect to me. it was so fantastic i loved it so much.

...Well I'll be damned. I honestly thought your new favorite episode was Scooby vs Courage since I've heard you express how much you love that episode before.
But for real, this is such an amazing analysis of this episode. Guts vs Dimitri is an episode that means a lot to me because it's what got me to become a Fire Emblem fan (which is impressive considering I've been a Smash fan since Brawl), made me interested in checking out Berserk, and how's it's just a phenomenal episode with an incredible fight, with the last minute of it having two of my favorite scenes in all of death battle. It's currently in my top 4 favorite episodes of all time behind Goku vs Superman 3, Dante vs Bayonetta, and Dio vs Alucard.
Also, I just wanted to express that your videos have been some of the best DB related videos I have ever seen. The superb editing and the attention to detail when your analyzing something make for a fun watch every time. I can't wait to see how you rank season 10 with that in mind.

I'm going to be honest I'm not even a big fire emblem or berserk fan But this episode is easily in my top five of all time so that shows how good it is.
Another really good matchup with thematic similarity to Guts vs Dimitri would be Velvet Crowe (Tales of Berseria) vs Clive Rosfield (Final Fantasy XVI). Both of them are action JRPG protagonists from the 16th games of their respective series with a significantly darker tone to stand out, who wield blades and demonic arms on a quest for vengeance after a tragedy in which their younger brothers were killed and their aforementioned demonic arms manifested in the aftermath, only to discover that the circumstances behind the tragedies that befell them were not exactly as it seemed to them, and eventually come to terms with said revelation and end up struggling against gods who schemed to strip humanity of free will.
I remember when I first watched it, when the fight ended, I legitimately stood up, clapped, and announced out loud, "Best ending they've EVER done!!" and you know what? I STILL stand by that.
My only problem with this episode beside some of the animation is not using to other half of their connection that they were brought back from the darkness by people that they love only the sallowed by darkness
It’s used in the gods hand with “what you got to lose, what you, what you got to lose” with the slight stutter of the second what you got to lose showing the have something to use
So how do we fix this?
The answer is we are gonna have to change the ending of the insanity scene that it still starts with them hear the voices of the dead starting to lose it but then hear the voices of those who’s alive telling them to stay alive and change the final line being something like “I will even if I have to kill every last one of them” then they go insane and it changes the final clash from to beast just trying to kill each other to two beast fighting to get back to those they need to protect.
The best thing about this is that you only change one scene and the feel of the rest of the fight changes while the fight itself stays the same down to the ending
I really hope they do Byleth vs Rean Schwarzer for Season 11 or so as the next episode with a Fire Emblem character, especially we got that really good first one with Guts vs Dimitri. Both characters share so many interesting and compelling connections with each other, but the main theme of this matchup is that they are both JRPG protagonists who are renowned professors of prestigious military academies, who are excellent at swordsmanship and tactics and happen to be vessels for divine entities. It would be so awesome to have two badass university professors with a PhD in asskicking to clash with each other with their incredibly diverse array of abilities and their brilliant tactical prowess.

It's more so that they forgot to give Strange a multi+ feat given how Wiz claims that they were even in power and how the research team claims that the decision was a 51/49 split, but I felt that wording it that way was funnier.
I don’t care if I haven’t watched further into the video, I just want to point out that there was a joke going on when this episode was being made, and the jokes was related to Dimitri fans wanting Dimitri to lose. I think this is one of the only times where fans wanted their character to fail.

Season 10 easily is their best season thus far
For me, there were dream matches I always wanted, ones I didn't know I needed and a few I had no interest in but still loved. Those being Cole v Alex, DragonBorn v Chosen Undead & The Doctor vs Rick, respectively
The latter especially was a shock for me. No interest in either franchise but it ended up being my 3rd favorite fight, period and that was not an easy bar to surpass

I'm not even a Fire Emblem, or Berserker fan, but the SECOND I finnished off this episode I proudly considered it my favorite of the season.

On the matter of scaling, my personal issue is the false equivalences given. There's no way of proving that Edelgard's Hegemon form is equivalent to her strength with Amyr, nor that her with Amyr contributing to killing Rhea deals with the same durability that Rhea had against the Javelins of Light, NOR that that durability feat actually scales against the Javelins' destructive power.
In general I tend to disagree with the powerscaling community about when feats & scaling are appropriate. They tend to scale things beyond what actually makes sense for their series' intended power level (i.e. Dimitri being stronger than a nuke).
The javelins themselves were wanked to oblivion. We see the full damage of one from both above and below at shambala in the same cutscene rhea is hit. It barely destroyed a few trees.
Also, the speed scaling for both dimitri and guts was absolute bs.
Any speed scaling that’s only supported by “dodging lasers or magic spells” is automatically ridiculously when without that, they have no superspeed feats whatsoever and it would completely break their verses.
Also saying that dimitri was city level because he tanked a DIFFERENT SPELL that attacks you with negative emotions.
@@firenze6478 Yeah, dodging attacks is typically a reflex feat (specifically reacting to the attacker preparing the attack, not the attack itself), not a pure speed feat.
@@tehesprite502 we also see arrows move at the same speed as these so called ftl attacks. And magic in fire emblem does damage based on resistance which is mental power, not defense which is physical.
quite frankly they don't need the javelins, dimitri being able to take hits from byleth is honestly enough to give him the win

One thing I will mention that was an issue for the animation itself was Dimitri using Ice Magic, which is something he never uses in game, but I do love this episode and does justice to Dimitri and, from what I have heard from my friends, does a great job for Guts.
That was Frozen Lance, not ice magic. The attack is based on its functionality in Three Hopes.

I enjoyed this death battle a lot. I love that they did justice to both characters. Especially after what they did to my boy, Asta. The only criticism I have for the episode is it follows the Principle of Polearms. Then again, so does everything.

@@vaggos2003 It follows Rule 2 as Areadbhar breaks before winning. The Principle of Polearms is an observation I’ve had in media and have yet to see it fail. I personally view as negative because polearms are my favorite weapon but can never catch a break. The principle itself is just an observation, however.

@@lestatcanada a lot in my opinion, the animation, the way they did the characters (I think it would’ve been better if it guts and dimitri after their whole emo stage), the music, scaling was really bad both both of them and that’s including the gear and weapons they gave them especially dimitri who got magic and abilities he either doesn’t get in the main game or doesnt canonically have access to without the player choice, and the ending of the battle

Dodging magic and sound doesn’t make characters with no other feats of superspeed ftl.
The logic of scaling dimitri to light javelins could be used to scale wolverine to infinity guantlet.
Also, they completely ignored the scaling of the shambala roof ( which was in the same cutscene rhea got hit in) to wank it millions of times greater in a feat where we don’t even know how many were launched.
And they gave dimitri city level durability because he tanked a spell from a wizard whose earthquake spell shook the screen. Only earthquakes damage you by dropping rubble on you, also, DIMITRI TANKED AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SPELL!
The spell he tanked wasnt even physical, dark magic attacks you with severe negative emotions that eat at your soul like despair.
I always considered Death Battle as just a usual power scaling channel with an animation budget backed by WB considering the amount of research they do for the characters heavily leans in one character's favor normally....
Well not so budget-backed anymore considering the tanking of RT😂

@@vaggos2003 Fuck no. And the Battle Casts proved to me that they learned the RWBY method of using a podcast to go, "We totally didn't do/write that at all. Anyone who has any criticism for our show in the slightest is just a hater." The fact they literally milked the Goku vs. Superman bit THREE TIMES was proof of them being lazy with research and quality.

As for Goku vs Superman being done 3 times, Ben Singer has went on record stating how he ended up hating what Goku vs Superman 2 ended up vexoming and wanted to give the matchup the proper send-off it deserved.
@@vaggos2003 It is what it is. As for the point about Ben, if he did it right the first time, it wouldn't have required two other times. He knew it was controversial due to the pairing, and either did slapdash research or knew it could be milked for tbree episodes. Either way, it's in bad faith.

As for Ben, uh, I wouldn't exactly say that. By his own words, the original Goku vs Superman is a classic and an important stepping stone to the series, but the episode, and especially the conclusion, although interesting for the time objectivily do not hold up with how the team does scaling and stuff nowadays. Plus, Goku vs Superman 2 was never meant to be a "sequel", but rather an afternath that would present 20 minutes of footage from the original that were cut for pacing issues. Unfortunately, the episode ended up being presented as a sequel, a decision that Ben regrets, and by his admission accidentally disresoected Superman and kicked Dragon Ball fans while they were down, leaving no one satisfied. Goku vs Superman 3, or more accurately Goku vs Superman: The Reboot, was meant to be a fresher take on the matchup that would hood up better against the passage of time as well as allowing the team to leave this matchup that meant so much to them, the series and the channel on better terms with an episode that they could be proud of.
If you don't buy all that, well, do as you wish, obviously. Those were my 2 final cents on it.
The scaling logic for both dimitri and guts was wack though. Both db versions would be like superman in their actual worlds.
They even completely ignored the scaling of the light javelins at shambala to wank them into infinite by using aliel instead which is already a bad comparison since you could use the same scaling to make wolverine universal by claiming he beat hulk who beat thanos therefore wolverines strength is = to infinity gauntlet.
but dimitri is directly shown overpowering edelgard, which a lesser version directly overpowered rhea. The logic does make sense because it's actually SHOWN dimitri is stronger than Edelgard- at least in that route.
@@FranTheNerd edelgard didn’t directly overpower rhea. In the cutscene, rhea is barely able to move because its at the end of the battle in which edelgard had an entire army with several relics. (which the agarthaans specifically made to kill dragons) and she had byleths help delivering the final blow.
Dimitri also has an army and the cutscene
takes place after edelgard was already defeated. The assumption that they soloed their final bosses is only an assumption because the real reason the army isn’t shown is because the army could be made up of numerous different characters. And assuming in powerscaling isn’t viable.
Also, rhea was wanked millions of times greater herself since in the same cutscene rhea barely survives being caught in the outskirts of a light javelin, we see the direct aftermath of one from both above and below in the roof of shambala which barely encompassed a few trees in its destructive radius. ( we never see aliel, nor do we know how many javelins were used, and sothis was there and could have been partially responsible, plus you have to completely ignore shambala which is the only fully viewable javelin feat that we see and happens in the same cutscene rhea gets hit in. Ignoring this is blatant and intentional wank.

@@FranTheNerdthey both do that with literal armies, and neither Edelgard or Dimitri were fighting alone. Dimitri also is canonically killed by generic soldiers with spears by just stabbing him multiple times which is a significant lower durability feat.
A shame I couldn't make it to the premiere, but this was an amazing video discussing one of the best episodes of the shows history. It may not be my favorite episode of the season or of all time (though it is still up there), but the fact that you brought up so many details in the analysis and fight that I didn't even consider has to count for something.
Dont forget the berserker dont work likes what he suppose to be in the death battle likes the armor suppose to able to regenerate himself and being likes invincible but In the video he nerf

I didn’t like this episode of DB. I felt Guts got downplayed a lot.
they gave guts more than he should have with the storm demon feat- if anything they buffed guts and nerfed dimitri who can scale to byleth and beyond
@@FranTheNerd I just felt like they left out other factors to be considered. I’m sure there’s a FE character that can beat Guts but I’m not buying the whole Dimitri thing.

@@erniestrother3545 how? How don't you buy it? Dimitri can be hit by meteors falling from the sky going mach 66 and shrug large city level attacks. NOTHING guts can do can get by that durability.
As a Fire Emblem fan I'm not a fan of it mostly because I don't agree with the feats they gave Dimitri. Dimitri isn't that fast or strong. No Dimitri isn't light speed because he can dodge faith magic and no he can't tank missiles because him backed up with an army can defeat Edelgard who can when backed up with an army can defeat a dragon that survived being attacked with missiles but yet somehow can still die to generic soldiers being able to stab him to death with normal spears
Dimitri being killabke by ordibary soldiers is either a nerfing outlier or just a non-canon game mechanic.
@vaggos2003 it's not an outlier, every route except for AM Dimitri dies, VW it is explicitly because soldiers stabbed him to death, CF it is because he failed to fight off Edelgard's army and is executed by Edelgard, and in SS it is off screen but is implied to be the same fate he faced in VW and was only off screen due to Byleth not being on Gonder Field in that route. Even in AM he was at risk of being stabbed to death by a child and was only saved by his father figure jumping in to take the blow instead. We have more routes of him dying or at risk of death to normal people compared to routes where you can at least say his cause of death is someone that can be scaled to high levels of strength.
@@sam7559Death Battle does present characters at what they perceive to be them at their consistently strongest, buuuuuut I don't know anything about Fire Emblem, so I don't know how powerscaling works there, so I won't comment further on that.
@vaggos2003 the issue is that in Three Houses we see the stats of a generic villager and due to the way stats work short of having a crest a generic villager can do pretty much every feat given to Dimitri just maybe with less consistency. They can dodge light based attacks, tank meteors, damage and possibly kill Rhea which scales them to Dimitri. They're stats are low but Fire Emblem works on a system of low enough numbers that you can offen still do stuff. Heck one example of a challenge run I've seen is people beating the game with zeros in specific stats like strength or speed
