  • Got to meet up with a buddy of mine over in Novi MI today, his name is Nathan with Four Season Lawn Landscape. Him and I got to know each other over the last year, both being part of the ECHO UAG program.
Since then, we've been able to keep in touch back and forth through social media, and I have to say, this kid blows me away with his success. He's only 16 years old, but has managed to take on over 50 clients (while still being in High School full time), and now start a whole landscape division of his enterprise.
Check out his brand new F-250 that he bought 100% on his own. It's awesome seeing you young guys out there hustling to make it happen, carving out a name for yourself, and eliminating excuses and distractions at his age. There's a ton of nay-sayers, obstacles, and a lot of stuff to learn, but it's cool seeing younger folks getting in to the industry and making a ton of money along the way.
Congrats to Nathan and shoutout to his dad Kevin who has raised a fine young man. Leave Nathan a comment down below, let him know ya'll are excited for him and to keep on keeping on! Hopefully his success inspires some of you young guys out there to get yours!

I'm 16 as well and just starting out my sophomore year! I'm wanting to grow and currently I'm working with my Daily Driven 1995 F150 Eddie Bauer Supercab and a 7x12 utility trailer. I have a Toro Timecutter Zero-Turn, and a Husqvarna AWD Walk Behind. I've got loads of landscaping equipment that goes with that and a couple employees I can hire on the spot. I'm having a hard time finding new clients and I'd like at the very least 30 clients/week I've been kicking butt getting started but now that I'm out of school I'm starting to struggle to find work, which is crazy since just a month ago I was overloaded. Learned my mistake in turning work down! ); Never do that!

The reality is the amount of money you can make depends on where you’re located. If you can mow all your properties with a 60 inch mower and are mostly open and big of course you can make money. Where im located 99% of properties are too small to run a big mower. Most backyards you can’t fit anything bigger than a 30” push mower, tons of obstacles on lawns, tons of trimming, and people don’t want to pay good money to have it mowed. You gotta be super picky with which properties you take to actually make good money on each lot, and when you do that it makes it way harder to fill up your schedule.
You can’t just listen to guys that say you can make good money that don’t know what it’s like to have to push mow the majority of your properties. I do on average 12-15 properties a day by myself and most of them are push mowed. You’re working long days and it’s hard work.
I know it’s nice to be encouraging and optimistic but also be real. Sometimes people get their hopes up high watching vids like this and then go open their own business and fail within 2 years because they thought they were just gunna go easily mow 50 accounts a week by themselves and rake in 20grand a month. It’s just not reality.

If you are in a place where there’s tons of competition it doesn’t matter how good of a job you are doing it will be tough to get new accounts.

Like your videos I do wanna say that I’ve been seeing a lot of landscape videos and stuff saying they did this on there “own” I myself am 25 I purchased a 2001 Dodge Ram / plow in 2014 did some snow made some money fixed the truck up a little in 2015 I bought a brand new ex mark laser Z I had to have my grandmother help me co sign on it then shortly after that I bought a brand new open trailer 2016. In 2017 truck broke down transmission blew too rusty to fix had to sell it blah blah part out big mess lol now it’s 2018 and I’m about to get into a new GMC all I’m saying is unless you have money from your parents or your well off this business doesn’t just happen at 16 I’m not trying to bash on anything either just wanna help with some of the people that come from a less fortunate family and tell them it’s still possible to still do this. It’s taken me almost 5 years to get new equipment maybe I’m doing something wrong lol would like to hear anyone else’s thoughts on this as well again not trying to bash on anyone.

Hey man I love your videos, and I’ve seen that you’re very active on RUclips as you’ve commented back on my comments which is awesome lol, but I’m in the market for a new stick edger. I got a Husqvarna 128LDX for my birthday like 3 years ago and the weed eater works great. But it’s a multi system weed eater. I bought the edger attachment for it as well, and within a it was trash. So I’m just lookin for some advice on some good brands that will sell a reliable edger

Just go with any brand name and you'll be fine for a while! Echo, Stihl, Redmax, etc!
