Dave I’m fast going backwards and forwards these days. I’ve been outside tonight loading the trailer in the dark not sure what’s wrong with me working way too late lol. Thanks for stopping by take care up there brother.
Same here for me this time of year. Between being short-handed at work and driving between 2 locations to pick up parts or what not during the week is my splitting and stacking time..
Daniel yes it’s busy. All we can do is our best. I just want to get 30 cords ready to go soon as possible. This way it will be ready for next winter. Thanks for stopping by.
For sure the milk crate is great. I caught some just in a plain bin before and wasn’t pleased because of all the trash. Thanks for stopping by sir. I’ll check out your email.
I statrted out spliitting my wood under one of those carpots like they seel on the side of the road. That went well and I soon had a few cords of wood, which was enough for a couple of years. I enjoyed splitting so much, I kept going and going, now storing wood outside. Then came the problem, If I didn't put that stack there, I could have had more room to use over there..... After a couple of years of splitting, I had enough wood so that it will take five or more years to get to it. I don't want to be in the fire wood business, so I give some away and now don't split as much. On the other hand, we just took down a big Ash tree and I'm going to have to do something with it. Long-term plans are hard to come by in the firewood splitting world.
Phil sounds like you have a problem lol. You’ve burried yourself in firewood and nowhere to put it. Yeah I keep trying to expand and then I hit a roadblock and think why did I put that there. Take care keep splitting and stacking.
Sounds like a plan to me. This was not my favorite I still prefer to cut the rounds from the tractor and split as I go. For some reason my back doesn’t like cutting day. Yes I’m staying hydrated not near as hard this time of year.
White oak splits about as easy as any wood. Get some live oak if you want something hard to split. I see you are still using your Johnny to cut rounds. If you were close I would loan you one of my Stihls. They will out cut that Johnny. I used to buck every thing up and then split it with an axe, maul, sledge and steel wedges. My 😅rounds were usually a lot bigger, too. I cut them with a 24” bow saw, so you know how big they were. I do wish I had bought a splitter but don’t know if I could have gotten them up on the splitter by myself.
John I have to agree about the live oak definitely some tough stuff. I’m still splitting on those rounds hopefully get them finished up today. Thanks for watching hope you have a great weekend.
@@OGAOutdoors Ben, once you split live oak the first time it gets real easy to plank it out. I used to cut a groove in the end of the round with one of my chainsaws and then use my splitting wedges and a sledge to split it in half. I could then take an axe or maul and cut the halves into planks pretty easy, almost like splitting white oak. Down in South Georgia I used to get a lot of live oaks that had been blown down in summer storms or hurricanes which meant they were full of water, sap. These were tough to split and stack up but were even worse after they dried out. It burns great and makes a good wood to smoke meat over. There is nothing like a Boston Butt smoked over dried live oak. I welded to 55 gallon drums together, end to end, put a meat rack in the top, a door at the bottom and used it to smoke/cook Boston butts, turkeys, etc on. I would load it up with firewood at night, put the meat on the Hardwear cloth rack, close both doors and go to sleep. It was done the next morning, pink all the way through. It was the best smoker that I have ever owned.
@@johnclarke6647 Yeah not much live oak up this way. I think I’ve only had one and I guessing it was planted. Now you done gone and got me hungry. I may have to stop by the store after church and get something to throw on the grill.
@@OGAOutdoors to cold to cook out. It is even to cold for me to put my lemon trees out for a little sunlight. I will leave them under their grow light until it warms up a bit.
Great video. Big cherry wood, bark looks different than our cherry wood here too. Get system. Little bit each day gets er done. Have a great week. 🪵🪓🔥👍🏻👋
Yeah I’m sure the bark is different. I was just walking with my wife and it’s wild how many different types of hickory trees there are. I’m heading out now to get a little bit done for today.

Great work Ben! Love the scrap catcher!👍👍
Thanks Jeremiah. I think the milk crate may create a little income if I have time to pursue further.
another great firewood video, seems we never have as much time as we want.
Joey really appreciate you stopping by sir. Yes time is the limiting factor. I’m hoping to free up some time by the end of the year.

I love cherry wood.big rounds you got.looks good.🍻
Yes it is the good stuff. Once I split it all I had about a cord and a half.
@@OGAOutdoors I really like the cherry because it dries fast.and if you find a dead 1,the core is always solid
@@brentsmith2384 yeah it has lots of good qualities. I know a guy that’s pretty much all he heats with.
the milk box is great for catching your kindling. I sent you an email. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

Im tying to cut a day, split away and stack a day. Doesn't always work out but for now it seems best Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
