Have to try your tips thanks great video
That was a nice load of Hickory and thanks for the tips!
I learned a lesson need to store logs in full sun. The last two in the back were the worst. Thanks for stopping by.
Oooooo listen to this sound with headphones inn
Good morning Ben, That hickory is tough splitting. still looks pretty good.
I finished it up yesterday. The last two logs were the worst. They were in the back and got the least amount of sunlight. Guess I will have to remove more trees so my inventory can get more sun. Take care enjoy your Sunday.
Great!
Stay grinding my friend..miss seeing ur videos
I’m still getting out a few. I put out two in July so I guess production is down to half. Thanks for stopping by.
That saw is a shindaiwa, which is made by echo. It ain’t no stihl but not a bad little saw
I’ve got my moneys worth out of it for sure.
Couple of days late watching your video!! That hickory turned out Great!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Thanks David you do the same. This is definitely some serious stay hydrated weather.
Interesting, thanks Ben.
Thanks for stopping by.
@@OGAOutdoors sure, how are you liking that splitter?
@@davekana8388 It does everything I need. I’ve done 25-30 cords with it the last couple years. I’m guessing I won’t reach that number this year since I went back to work full time.
@@OGAOutdoors what’s your day job?
@@davekana8388 I’m a contractor working for the Army. I do IT/customer service support.
I have a love hate relationship with hickory .
I love it too but it does have its drawbacks.
Hickory is a tough wood but it makes great smoke. You be careful out there, Mr. Ben, and stay hydrated. Our Southern humidity is not for sissies, is it? Blessings
Makes smoke and heat. I always have some to add to the stove on those cold days. The humidity is pretty thick lately. Our doors and windows have been fogged over pretty much every morning. Take care.
You are tough…the southern heat and humidity has been dangerous this past month. 🇺🇸
@@larryterrell8458 Yeah today took it to a new level. High heat and humidity from all the recent rain. Thanks for watching.
Ben , your chainsaw see to be cutting on an angle 📐. Make hard cutting with it Ben . See you later 👋 take care . 😊
Ben look 👀 like bark rot on the outside. Fir logs 🪵 after two year are know for 👍 bark rotten travel threw the log 🪵. White birch is bad for that, be lucky 🍀 to get a year Ben . White birch once it’s dry burn 🔥 it or put it inside out of the bad weather. 😊
Yeah the bark was definitely flying off the hickory. It was approaching the end of log life. Thanks for watching and stopping by.
I didn’t know that about hickory. Thanks Ben👍👍
The old dog is never too old to learn a new trick. Take care and be safe.
Ben, you are right about the hickory. It's best split right after you take the tree. Great to see you and God bless.
Thanks George hope you have a great week. I’ll see you on the next one.
It always makes my day to see a new video from you, sir. Stay blessed.
Thanks so much appreciate the kind words. Hope you have a great week. God bless.
Great setup. Looking forward to more content. Also looking forward to getting my own splitter.
Thanks Don. Hope you get your splitter soon. They are a game changer for sure. Take care stay safe.
BEN it’s great to see you again! Split on! Tim in northern TN
Thanks Tim I had fun splitting and sweating. It will be cooler weather before you know it. Thanks for stopping by sir.
Hello Ben, just split up a bunch of Hickory logs, they are running a close 2nd to elm as my most disliked wood🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
Yeah they can be a lot of trouble. They sure do make a mess when the bugs get in them too. Thanks for stopping by.
I turn down hickory. Too stringy and takes 18-24 months to dry out.
@@davidself3169 It seems to dry quicker for me. Pretty much everything I get is ready in a year. May have to do with the size of my splits.
Thanks for the video and hard work Ben!
Thanks really appreciate you watching and stopping by. I’ll see you on the next one.
Ben, sounds like it is not getting enough bar oil on the chain and probably a little dull, too. My Ms 440 or ms360 would eat that wood up. Get a chain grinder. They are reasonable and will clean up a chain mosh quosh meaning pretty fast
John it could probably use a little more work but for what I need it’s getting the job done. I may look into a grinder sometime I just don’t have the space to set one up. Thanks for stopping by.
Hackberry goes bad pretty quick as well. Never had hickory.
I get some hackberry occasionally just split it up and put it in the mix. It all burns when dried. I’ve actually had one customer request hackberry said it burned clean.
@@OGAOutdoors I’ve burned a heck of a lot of it over the last 15 years. Probably more than any other wood.
Douglas Fir has these similar bugs that go in just under the bark. Would be neat to find out how many BTUs that add.😂
Daniel they probably don’t add too many BTUs just a nice smoky aroma. Thanks for stopping by take care sir.
Great work!! Excellent job on that hickory!! Turned out nice!!
It really did I was surprised. Thanks for stopping by hope yall are having a great Sunday. Take care God bless.
Ben, my problem with hickory are the bugs that bore into the wood and leave powdered sawdust in my woodpiles. But I will say I love burning hickory, I know you’ve mentioned it previously but what is the name of your wife’s channel? Thanks for taking us along. Stay cool👍TCT
Tony I agree completely about the bugs and the hickory. It makes a huge mess but we deal with it. The wife’s channel is Our Greene Acres that’s where OGA came from. Thanks for stopping by.
Good Evening Sir, Thank You Very Kindly For Making Your VIdeo 👍👌😇🙏Keep Up Your OUTSTANDING work Sir Cheers 😇😇👌👌👍👍💪💪🍻🍻
Thanks Dave I’m just surviving the heat. Looking forward to your brutal winter videos. Hopefully we will see the boiling water trick. Take care brother God bless.
I like that double action splitter. Would like to upgrade my old Speeco 22 ton, but don’t need a 15k + pro model since I only split to heat my house. That hickory looks just like mine. Tough and stringy. I’m in southern Missouri. Mostly burn Joe’s favorite, red oak.
The Split Fire 2265 is one of the best home owner splitters out there. It tackles about anything I throw at it. I do about 25-30 cords a year with it. I burn just about everything especially the ugly stuff. I burn pine some and poplar is one of my favorites especially with the mild winters. I do get out the oak and hickory on the cold days. Really appreciate you stopping by see you on the next one.
I LOVE the smell of hickory but am growing tired of it being around the yard. That bug chews into it and makes sawdust/sand like stuff everywhere. Makes me itch when stacking it with short sleeves! Good job ben, that looks like nice stuff
I’m covered up with it and you are definitely correct about the sand. It’s really hard to get it off the wood especially when wet. Just guessing probably 60% of my current inventory is probably hickory. Oh I went back to the dark side in late April. I got my old job back and so far I’m happy with the decision. Thanks for stopping by and take care.
I get that bud with my mesquite wood.
Love the videos Ben .
Thanks Jason I appreciate that. Hope to see you on the next one.
Love your setup and that splitter!
Eric yeah it works pretty well. As I mentioned I like splitting the rounds at the pile so I only have to touch the wood once. Doing it this way though keeps the bark and scaps out of the way away from the wood piles. Thanks for stopping by.
Welcome back,missed you
John good to be back. I guess I’m on my limited summer tour. Especially since I rejoined the full time have a job tour again. Enjoy your Sunday God bless.

Sounds like your saw is running rich. Maybe a tune will help keep the chain moving
It may be suffering from the heat like me. I’m sure it could use a little tweaking. Thanks for watching and stopping by.
Hey Ben, I have been wondering about the videos. Glad to hear all is going okay.
Yeah I had to go back to the dark side. It’s all good though. The full time RUclips etc was starting to get stressful. Thanks for checking in.
Hi Ben, Still at it I see. Thats a lot of hickory
Joey yes I am. I still have quite a bit of hickory left. Take care and be safe.
Glad to see you are doing good and producing content. I will keep checking to see what's happening with you. Take care, Ben.
Thanks Obie I’m working hard. I should have another video coming out this weekend. Appreciate you stopping by as always.
what kind of sand is that?
Just some bulk sand I purchased from my local farmers supply store.
Just set this pool up after watching I don’t know how many videos . 60 minutes my tail.
Yeah it’s quite the project.
How did you get the last 2 pieces to plug in? My dad and I can't get it to go together
Best I remember I just had to keep pulling and adjusting. Make sure the pieces are wet so they will slide inside the plastic sleeve.
What’s your wife’s channel name? And about?
It’s Our Greene Acres. We started out on it together so for the first couple years it was a combination of outdoors and DIY home decorating. Since I branched off I guess she is pretty much diy decorating now.
Had to stop in to see what you've been up to! Good to see you Ben!!
Hey Brian good to hear from you. I’ve seen you here and there on Facebook etc. Looks like you’re doing well sir. I’m back at M&S almost like I never left just took a three year nap lol.
Glad to see you again Ben!
Thanks George. Hopefully you will be seeing more in the future.
Thanks for the update, was getting a little worried about you, glade things are going well for you, but did miss your content you are one of a few that I watch when it comes to firewood
Thanks John really appreciate the nice words. I’m going to try to keep some content rolling out for you sir.
Ben, glad you’re doing well. RUclips is a fickle beast, as you say you can’t count on it. 👍TCT
You know it. I guess it’s my own fault. I thought as long as her channel grows and you maintain views you should at least maintain income. Now I know better.
Nice to see you Ben. And wishing you and Teresa the best for the rest of the year - Cheers!
You too sir hope all is well. With all this heat I’m already looking forward to snow blowing videos. Take care.
Thanks for the video Ben! 👍
Was just thinking about you this morning. Glad to here from you.
Thanks sir. Hopefully more videos coming.
Yep, it’s hot in Bama! 🦌
Really happy to see you back online. Glad you are feeling better. You are right. It is His plan. God is good. Hope to see you soon.
Thanks for stopping by. He is all the time.
I’d love to have your weather. Here in WI it’s been nothing but rain since the start of June. We haven’t had more than two days without rain. My garden is almost 1 month behind cause it’s so wet. Been a rough year for garden in WI. Firewood sales have taken a huge hit with the rain too. Best of luck with everything and I’ll try and send some rain down to you.
Yeah the weather does it’s own thing for sure. We rarely have too much rain down here in the summer overall. May occasionally get a really big rain but for the most part it’s borderline dry. Thanks for stopping by take care.
