This should be great should be dry in a couple weeks. Yeah I went and bought a cord of cheap hickory a couple months ago and since then I’ve been buried.
What is with the measuring stick? Just measure your bar on the saw and remember which letter is what length. Presto hold the bar up and you have your length. You can also use a paint marker and renew it every few days as needed.
Thanks for watching sir. The pvc is just my preference. The bar does work but the saw weighs over thirteen pounds kinda takes a toll on me elbows. I just like the stick because it’s always there and I can adjust around knots and things to create less waste. I’ve tried several things and end up going back to the stick.
I had a similar experience with some Scotch pine. It was several years old, been buried in a giant log pile, and had some grubs in it. (1/4" holes bored through it, with lots of sawdust plugs. Very messy to split, because of it) Some of the wood seemed rotten-ish, the rest was orange with pitch, or looked almost green. It dries fairly slow- because much of the water is caught up in all the pitch. Burns like crazy, though! I've actually been cutting out the knots, sawing them into chunks, and splitting those for firestarters. They are THAT resinated! Only thing I don't like about it is it smokes like crazy- and the smoke is very harsh smelling. (the regular wood, not the orange stuff) Normally pine smells great... I wonder if it's because it's semi rotten, because of all the bug poo, or due to the high moisture. But, hey- it was free. And it lights my fires very well, so... After this, it's back to the spruce and soft maple for kindling. Great stuff- and it doesn't stink!
Sounds like some good fire starter for sure. I may have to give that a try sometime. I’m hoping this will dry pretty quick in the shed out of the weather. Thanks for stopping by.
Ben, you know I can’t stand the sound of that 1165 from my past comments lol. However, I can’t imagine using anything to split kindling where it would be worth the time of doing so. I have given the splinters away that are the natural byproduct of splitting with some firewood deliveries. That really didn’t costs additional time as I would’ve had to dispose of them anyway, but I don’t know anyone I like enough to split kindling for 😜
I tried to cut the volume back on the squealing splitter portion lol. Yeah I try to stay away from the kindling. The little pile I made will probably be enough if not I may make a little more. I don’t even like messing with the scraps although I do pick up a few for my own use. Take care sir.
Maybe new driver was in a hurry. Stuff happens but can be corrected, i like the little splitter except the whine it makes, bit for what it does, I could learn to tolerate it. Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Oh yeah I’ve moved several logs. They had to be moved anyway. I just finished cutting up several. The little splitter does have a whine but a little hearing protection takes care of that. Thanks for stopping by.
While you were spliitting that pine I thought about how long it would take to split a cord of that and how much you would have to charge. That's a lot of labor and a lot of splitter cycles. It seems like that would almosr be a favor to your customers and not a great way to make money, on the other hand, if it gets you more firewood customers, that's what it's all about. Thank Goodness for the cooler weather.
Phil it would probably take several days to split a cord for sure. I don’t split it real small and I don’t make a lot of it either. The bundles I make are small and sell for the same price as my regular bundles. I’m sure there’s a better way but it works for now. Take care.
I was with you until you actually split the kindling with your splitter. I do the same thing with cedar in that I cut slabs with my splitter and then I cut the kindling with my hatchet. Like your channel!

Pine makes great kindling! Some nice hickory you scored Ben!!👍👍

Great to see you again Ben, God bless.
Hey, thanks George. God bless.
That will work great for a few select customers!
Yes select is the key word. I will be changing a decent price too.
Lot of work doing kindling. Great splitter.
Have a great day 👍🏻👋
Yeah not my favorite but I don’t make much. You have a great day too.
@@OGAOutdoors 👋👍🏻
Hi Ben, Sounds like its about to get busy there with the cooler weather. Hope you have a great firewood season.
Thanks Joey it’s been pretty busy today. Just sold my fifth truckload.
Ben,
We pay about 25.00 per wheelbarrow load of kindling.
28 wheelbarrow loads in a cord.
It’s worth it too. Lots of work with kindling. That’s why I try to stay away from the stuff. Thanks for stopping by.
thanks

Hi Ben, I like to use kindling here in the shop and house so always have a little around. As you know it doesn't take long to dry. Talk later. Terry
Terry yes it’s good to have not my favorite thing to sell. I try to keep them happy though. Thanks for stopping by sir.
When you split the kenneling you should stack a few pieces on top of eachother and get them done faster
Yeah I’m not the biggest fan of kindling. I may try to improve the process going forward. Thanks for stopping by.
Maybe the tree service driver was in a hurry.. oh well you will have that all sorted out soon 😁👍
Oh yeah no problems all taken care of. Take care.

Yeah I don’t plan to make a lot. I split a lot by hand especially for my own use. Thanks for stopping by.
