  • Sonic Frontiers is a game I liked at first but have conflicting feelings about now, even with the content of the new updates, so let us look back and see the game for all its worth.

    I agree, and I don’t. The update has made playing the game in traversing the world and levels a lot more fun to me. Especially when it comes to making my own paths and using my speed to get to the locations I need to be. In terms of what I want for the next game I definitely don’t want them to go back to just linear levels. I want them to expand on the open side of the game and get creative with it. Put those cool level design into the world. While also, assuming the linear levels aren’t going anywhere build on top of that with the movement and opportunities of it being open. Especially if we have multiple playable characters officially coming back hopefully. Embrace the sonic basically.

  • @kao7143
    @kao7143 Год назад +12

    i highly disagree
    extreme difficulty and new game+ are both modes that allow you to replay the game in different ways
    and yes cyberspace isnt designed with the spindash breaking in mind, but id argue it makes the stages way better as now the spindash carries skill behind it
    that speedrun is professional stuff
    but people can easily flub it up and die multiple times if they're not careful, you're rewarding by being risky and making skips which adds layers onto it
    i also disagree on the puzzle koco challenges being boring because they're actually quite cleverly designed and require you to think about what you're doing, never anything wrong with brain teasers

  • @roiitzkovich4545
    @roiitzkovich4545 Год назад +5

    I actually disagree with you. These "new koco" platforming challenges take more time to design AND are overall longer to overcome. Designing all the memory tokens to play like these will ruin the pacing.
    Frontiers is a game where you run around and collect stuff. What makes it fun is the movement. The platforming challenge behind each token is simple and (as you claim) mostly automated, but you aren't meant to judge each memory token on its own. You are meant to look at the entire map as a playground, where you do all the typical stuff you do in Sonic stages, but scattered. These aren't 3-5 minutes long stages of non-stop action, these are bits and pieces of stages spread throughout a big landscape. Each of these gives you a token.
    Now you might say "quality over quantity. I'd rather have less memory tokens if each one feels more substantial".
    However, with less memory tokens, you'll make a map that's 5 times smaller (or keep it the same size, but make it empty and dry). At this point, what's the reason behind making an open world Sonic game to begin with? Sonic runs so fast and covers the ground quickly, which makes smaller maps feel limited and meaningless for him. If you want to make an open world Sonic game, you need a lot of space for Sonic to run.
    The reason why the simpler platforming challenges for memory tokens work as they are now is because of how you finish them quickly and immediately move to the next challenge. Additionally, you can sequence break a few challenges and get the tokens quickly, and it's always fun to have that feeling you outsmarted the game. However, because the tokens are so easy to get, sequence breaking to get a few of them doesn't ruin the challenge. All it does is add variety to exploration, with multiple ways to problem-solve.
    If you go for the "meatier platforming challenges, but less in quantity" approach, each token will be slower to get (making the collect-a-thon process less streamlined) and sequence breaking will make some of these platforming challenges worthless (which is much more severe here considering the platforming challenges are meatier).
    I enjoy the world design and game vibe as it is now. If I can recommend anything for future installments is to take the "new koco" platforming challenges and make them the story missions. Rather than guiding kocos to Amy/Knuckles, have Sonic do some platforming to save trapped kocos.

    @leonardoalmeida8283 Год назад +9

    So the problem here it's that sonic team doesn't want to make the game that you want to play, frontiers it's another type of game and just like breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom you have options to have fun with the game, but fun movement, and the abilities in tears of the kingdom case doesn't make a game replayable because they are designed for the first experience only and once finished you don't have a reason to go back, and thats why I recommend to return to frontiers only in update 3, you are forcing yourself do play something that's already finished (replaying the game will not fix replayability), you never see someone starting a new save file in unleashed because it's really boring, you only replay the levels and that's it.

    I can't lie. After Update 2 came out, I've been playing the game a lot more recently. I've 100%ed the game a total of three times now, and while there were some tedious parts like getting every single Memory Token on the map, but I found the overall experience to be fun. Let me just say (for probably the thousandth time), the Open Zone wasn't my ideal direction for Sonic, but the game really did immerse me when I first played through it. I think Frontiers is a game where you value your first experiences more than repeat playthroughs, and Sonic games may follow this trend going forward.

  • @P0tatoz9
    @P0tatoz9 Год назад +10

    I see what your saying about the spin dash breaking the game, but that’s the fun part. Sonic is all about expressing yourself and the spin dash let’s you do super cool skips and makes movement way better. Also Not every game has to be super replayable, you don’t have to replay a game 20 different times for it to be good. For example games like the last of us are things people would consider good games, but they most likely wouldn’t go back to them. The same thing could be said about frontiers because frontiers is not a regular sonic game, it is an open world game meaning you will suffer from open world fatigue if you play it over and over. This game is not the same as gens or unleashed, it’s a completely different genre and should be treated as such. PS: The satisfaction on mastering a level in frontiers is still here, in the sky rail example you showed, it can be really rewarding to get the fastest time you can with the tools available. The only difference is that the levels are able to be cheesed easier

    El problema es que la idea de frontiers no es que cada vez que abras el juego tengas niveles ya boost como otros juegos, porque claro que esta el ciberespacio, pero el centro del todo el juego y lo que lo hace más divertido actualmente es la movilidad del personaje y como se desplaza por el mundo
    Y de hecho, es lo que hace que me guste más que otros juegos de Sonic, no es un conjunto de niveles que me obliga a tomar rutas variables para tener una nota
    Es un nivel enorme donde puedo ir donde yo quiera, algo así como la sensación que da spiderman de ps4 pero con Sonic

    • @bbumbs747
      @bbumbs747 Год назад +3

      That's not a really good argument to be made because sales does not and will never equal quality of a game. Heck if your talking about games that has a lot of Sales Pokémon Scarlet has millions of Sales and is regarded by a good amount of Pokémon fans as a dumpster fire, heck other examples of games that sold well but isn't regarded well quality wise would include games such as Battlefront 2, RE6, and if we were going to include a Sonic game, Sonic 06. So overall I don't think calling out the sales of a game should be an indicator of how good a game is.
      I will say though alternatively you could call out other things that give Sonic fans a reason to like the game. For me for instance I like Frontiers due to its overall movements mechanics, and overall freedom it gives to the player. Some people like the game for the story, it's uniqueness compared to other Sonic games, the soundtrack, and more. So yeah their is a lot of reasons to like Frontiers but the Sales of the game don't prove much tbh.

    Lame, this is the best 3D sonic, it's everything sonic needed. The platforming challenges are fun, and it's fun going up them to get higher into the world. Just the act of moving in a sonic game should be fun, and frontiers nails that, even more so after update 2. They need to stick with this for the next game, and we will have a game that will probably be one of my favorite games ever made, frontiers is already pretty up there. I'm not saying this game is perfect, it has issues, but the issues are so minor at this point, the 2 biggest ones being chaos island being littered with 2D, and the ending segments/"final boss"
    Kishimoto already said he wanted more momentum and stuff in the game, blame Sega for making them rush the game out, they are lucky they got the extra year. This game is a passion project from sonic team bringing back what the blue hedgehog is supposed to be. I dont hate lost world/colors etc but forces was so bad it wasn't even funny, frontiers did exactly what the series needed. But no Frontiers is not boring, not in the slightest, that's just a you issue. Also you complain about wanting sonics movement to be used more, and in cyberspace in particular, you get upset that you can skip whole levels if you know what to do, because of sonics much better movement.. why? That's part of the fun of sonic levels, skipping things and cutting off as much time as possible. So you clearly don't want more momentum like you say in the video, because it "breaks cyberspace" these "arguments" make so sense.
    Lame video, this just seems like the tears of the kingdom video I saw a few weeks back, complaining about a really good video game because every one else who is a sonic fan loves it.
    Update 3 can't come soon enough, can't wait to see what it brings.

    • @Daviron
      @Daviron  Год назад +3

      What I want is a game that uses my movement in clever ways in conjunction with the level design, I want to perform skips in the level itself to save time on my run, not jump over the entire level. The game has issues that go FAR beyond "chaos island is 2d" and "the final boss sucks" which are both valid complaints. The artstyle sucks, the game is filled with unfun challenges that are used to unlock the map, and the automation is really boring when not messing around with the movement. I say that the movement can be really fun to mess around with in the open world, but theres nothing to do otherwise, the game has no semblance of replayability. Sounds like you mightve misunderstood my complaints. Even still regardless, my opinion isn't objective, I'm not stopping you from enjoying it, just saying that I have some issues with the game (which I still like btw)
