I’m going to Rome then Florence this Friday and have done hours of research and planned a full itinerary but I’ve also been bingeing your videos. They’re so detailed and helpful. Everytime I have a follow up question, you answer it right after I was thinking it haha.

I can't wait for Rome, our first time to Europe. My wife and I leave Phoenix on April 25th for NYC and then taking a repositioning cruise to Civitaveccia. We will be in Rome May 24th to June 2nd. We are staying in an ABNB between Piazza Navona and Ponte VittorioEmanuele II. I have been planning and watching RUclips videos for months planning. Thank you for all your helpful instruction.

I have to concur with your advice on making restaurant reservations. Visited the city this past March and wrongly assumed that since it wasn't the high season yet, I didn't make the reservation to this Michelin rated restaurant specializing in Emilia Romagna dishes. Turns out all of their lunch and dinner seats were fully booked in advance!

    • @Romewise

I know the restaurant you mean and it's a must to make reservations there year-round. I eat there often and know to book at least a day in advance, sometimes more! Thanks for commenting!

Last year, we booked 3 but took a chance on the other 4 nights. We were never disappointed in any we ended up in. Some surprised us by being even better than they looked.
I would definitely recommend the tasting night at Roscioli. It was superb.
Not booking it this year as my friend can't drink red wine.
My rough rule is to look at the restaurant, the menu, dinners and staff. Is it clean and pleasant. Are the staff attentive. Do the dinners seem happy? Is there enough choice on the menu for everyone?
I've come to believe it's illegal to serve bad pizza in Italy. 😊

That's a great idea to have at least a couple of places booked - I do understand that many people, us included, just want to see how they feel and where they are at the end of the day. Glad it worked out for you!
Agree about Rimessa Roscioli - and it's a must to book there!
Thanks for your tips. They sound very reasonable!

Thanks a lot Peter, as always! Curious which restaurant you are referring to. I love Santa Maria Maggiore - it's one of my favorite churches in Rome.

@@Romewise Thanks for the tip Elyssa my wife wants to go there now, our restaurant is La Mela D'oro via S Maria Maggiore. @@Romewise hey Elyssa - do you have any suggestions for nice, affordable bars and wine shops in Trastevere and also Trevi areas? Also, any tips for solo travellers to Rome and Florence?

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  Год назад

@@gregg3744 I have a page about where to eat and drink in Trastevere and another about the Trevi Fountain area:
      www.romewise.com/trastevere-restaurants.html
      www.romewise.com/restaurants-near-trevi-fountain.html
As for tips for solo travellers to Rome and Florence, I'd say to not worry about sightseeing and eating alone. You will not be alone! First of all, it's common to see people eating out alone. Many locals do it, especially if they are eating during work hours or if they are travelling for work. I don't know of any restaurants where eating as a solo diner is a problem. Second of all, where sightseeing is concerned, of course, you can do this on your own but you might enjoy taking part in a small-group tour if you'd like to meet fellow travellers. For even more interaction, consider taking a food tour or cooking class.
      Have a great trip!
