LYRICS (translation):
Quietly Quietly
What a quiet lad,
what a calm rider,
how quietly he enticed away
a maiden into the granary.
Green rue crown
How calmly he took away
her maidenhood,
how quietly he worked off
her golden ring.
But suddenly he awaked
and sensed danger, -
took a horse
and moved away to the battle.

Tykus Tykus
Tai tykus bernelis,
Tai tykus raitelis,
Tai tykiai privilioj
Mergelę klėtelėn.
Žalią rūtų vainikėlį
Tai tykiai nuėmė
Rūtų vainikėlį,
Tai tykiai numovė
Aukselio žiedelį.
Bernelis pabudo,
Nelaimę pajuto, -
An žirgelio sėdo,
In vainelę jojo.

My absolute favorite piece in existence executed perfectly
Honestly one of the greatest pieces of choral music ever, and executed so perfectly. First of all, the acoustics in the church are beautiful, then the basses are very strong (with an EXCELLENT light compliment from the tenors) at parts like 0:48. And the tenors carry the harmonies so well with the altos throughout. Also, I'm not usually the biggest fan of soprano voices but DAMN it hits hard at 1:16. They kick off that verse so strong, and it really makes it a bit of a highlight in the song. And the ENDING IS PHENOMENAL. It's so beautifully written, and the soprano-alto harmony there give it the reflective feeling that the entire song is about. Such a glorious piece. Bravo
Thank you Brendan! This really motivates us for our next project. And we agree, this piece by Vaclovas Augustinas is amazing!

Best version on youtube
Sooooo beautiful 🥺💕🦋🌼✨
Wonderful music, wonderfully realized. Too bad about the casually misogynistic text.
Respectfully curious - where did you noticed misogyny?
@@jonasjonaitis7635it’s unfortunately a poem about a maiden getting assaulted in the woods and the man running off on his horse :/
@@davideatonjr.8571 It is Lithuanian folk song about young man riding on his horse with ring in his pocket to make the proposal to his beloved. Please believe me, i don't need translator.
