  • Lets talk about my problems with Dresden Files: Fool Moon, a quick review looking at the second book in the Dresden Files series following Harry Dresden, and his rather problematic approach to women as we look into all the cool werewolf lore to be explored in the magical city of Chicago. Jim Butcher hopefully steps it up after this book, but I was extremely let down by this sequel based on all the hype.

All I could do watching this, as a huge Dresden fan i might add, was nod my head in agreement.
When I said on your review of the first book that his male gaze gets better I mean about the nipples at 300 yards stuff. That dose slide away some. But it never goes away.
I'll have to reread these again and make notes on if he's saying things that he can be remanded for, because my imperfect memory always chalks them up to being inner monolog but maybe I need new glasses.
As for your question as to the best book?
12 Changes is the best book. But my favorite is book 7 Dead Beat. I feel like a lot of the pacing issues of the earlier books is completely gone and the action and mystery are well laid out. This also for me was the best ensemble of good guys and bad guys. All were much better written with more thought into their motivations.
Anyway, I do hope you like the rest of the series and it isn't just a continuous struggle with seeing good ideas but issues of this sometimes antiquated hero.
Cheers for another great review. You got good insights keep it up.

I hear enough people say they get better, I'll certainly stick it out because yeah the really cool things are interesting enough to hold out for it to improve! I have read the third, and it certainly is a major step up from this one, so that's certainly promising!

Hard not to be an improvement over a negative review! Lol. Glad you saw some modicum of an upswing.

Everyone that loves the series knows the first 2-3 books are difficult. Keep reading.

That's the goal! I keep hearing they get better, and I see glimpses of really interesting things in these earlier books so I'm hanging on 😂😂

    First
I'm going to give you an example of the ideas behind the villains in this book that you might not have figured out at the time of reading this. I mean you're a kid obviously and likely have never considered the possibility of what the driving force in this book is because you've never had to think of the issue. and if you have thought of it and had to deal with it but missed the meaning, that's on you for not thinking.
The issue that's shown is in both the Streetwolves and the Hexenwolves.
Harry describes it after using the belt he got off of Roger.
    It's addiction, sir.
THe Streetwolves are addicted to the power they have when killing people and the Hexenwolves are addicted to the belts - as they were designed to be addictive.
The theme of the book is addiction to power, that's why the Alphas are taught control and restraint from over using their power.
That's why the Feeb wanted to replace Marcone with the Streetwolves, Marcone is about restraint and control in the face of wild and abandoned violence, we learn how that kind of violence negatively affected him later in the series and became his driving force against allowing it - and making an example of the person who was that wild and without thought.
    Second
If you're gay and you don't like hearing that men like women's bodies that's fine, but don't sit there and say it's wrong and objectification when there's plenty of Harlequin Romance Novels that do the exact same thing that you will most assuredly not sit there and go 'its wrong that Sally Anne on the Ranch objectified Barry the Sailor who was always without a shirt on'
You'll sound like a loser incel for saying that.
What you'll do is ignore one side and pretend it's an issue with the other, when the reality of it is you are either not into women or not brave enough to talk about women like that while desperately wanting to.
