I remember one night at our synagogue, a honeless man came in and asked for food. Our rabbi gave him a plate with food and invited him to join us for our big sukkot dinner. He was so happy and he even came back the next week for friday night aervices to show his appreciation! I hope he is doing well wherever he is!

I’m lucky that they both married delightful spouses whose presence enriches our family life but I am otherwise alone my late father was Jewish my mother not so my brother and I are not. I love learning what I can about our family.

@@catherinenewman6516hallo catherine.

I miss the Sukkot “houses” back home in Chicago. I still remember one that looked like a pergola with pine branches, and Italian lights. I loved my old neighborhood. It was Hasidic and I felt at home. How funny to find out that in my mid 30’s I actually WAS Jewish! I was so happy because now I knew why I felt at home.
My grandpa, who was a sergeant in the German army, was able to get my grandma, my aunts, and uncles off of the cattle cars by bribing an officer to look the other way. He told them to run until they got to my great grandmas house. Luckily there were nice German families who hid them and fed them. Without him, my mom (and of course I) would not be here. Unfortunately my other ancestors were killed at Dachau.
I love this video and you have a new sub! I’m Ashkenazi so I find it interesting how the Sephardic Jews celebrate. ❤

Check your DNA. OLIVERI has Jewish ancestry. Were your ancestors from Spain or Portuguese?
Also... look for a birth mark on your body. Levites have wither reddish marks behind the head, inside hairline OR a brownish birthmark that sometimes looks like a coffee-stain.

I love happiness! Thank you for sharing this beautiful custom with us. One of the Jewish children's books I bought for my classroom (the same one in which I was reading about the blowing of the shofar for Rosh Hashanah) also includes instructions for assembling a sukkah (it's much more simple than the nice one your family has constructed, but it meets the basic requirements) in the Sukkot chapter. I had not been previously aware of this holiday, or the customs associated with it, until I got that book.

I love happiness ❤️ Thank you for sharing, I had not heard of this holiday before and found your video really interesting. Connecting to nature and how our ancestors experienced life appeals very much to me as a way to step out of the busyness and commercialisation of today and bring us back to the joy of spirituality and being with loved ones. I appreciate your content and always feel a sense of love emanating from your content. Thank you x

I love happiness! Thank you Dr Malka for sharing your wisdom and beautiful holiday. I’m a Christian woman and absolutely love learning about Jewish customs and mitzvahs. I sometimes teach children’s church and wanted to teach the kiddos about Sukkot and had them all sit in little tents while we did our lesson. They had so much fun! I do wish I had seen this video beforehand though lol. I didn’t know about the rods of different leaves! I think that is so fascinating and love the emphasis on unity despite differences. Thank you again! I pray you have a fantastic week!

I love happiness. I wish I watched this earlier as the first day of Sukkot is tomorrow morning and I'm completely unfamiliar with this holiday outside of the basics. This will be my first time going to Shul for Sukkot. I goto an old Shul built in 1913 in Manhattan and we are Ashkenazi and use Sefard Siddur. I'm excited to go as I've been a member of this Shul for over two years. I do not have the four species though I I was reading some excerpts in the Talmud or somewhere and I'm unsure about some things, but I guess I'll have to play it by ear and learn. Thank you as you videos were always helpful to me in my earliest days of becoming observant and I go to an Orthodox Shul. Chag Sukkot Sameach
