I remember one night at our synagogue, a honeless man came in and asked for food. Our rabbi gave him a plate with food and invited him to join us for our big sukkot dinner. He was so happy and he even came back the next week for friday night aervices to show his appreciation! I hope he is doing well wherever he is!

I miss the Sukkot “houses” back home in Chicago. I still remember one that looked like a pergola with pine branches, and Italian lights. I loved my old neighborhood. It was Hasidic and I felt at home. How funny to find out that in my mid 30’s I actually WAS Jewish! I was so happy because now I knew why I felt at home.
My grandpa, who was a sergeant in the German army, was able to get my grandma, my aunts, and uncles off of the cattle cars by bribing an officer to look the other way. He told them to run until they got to my great grandmas house. Luckily there were nice German families who hid them and fed them. Without him, my mom (and of course I) would not be here. Unfortunately my other ancestors were killed at Dachau.
I love this video and you have a new sub! I’m Ashkenazi so I find it interesting how the Sephardic Jews celebrate. ❤

I love happiness! Thank you for sharing this beautiful custom with us. One of the Jewish children's books I bought for my classroom (the same one in which I was reading about the blowing of the shofar for Rosh Hashanah) also includes instructions for assembling a sukkah (it's much more simple than the nice one your family has constructed, but it meets the basic requirements) in the Sukkot chapter. I had not been previously aware of this holiday, or the customs associated with it, until I got that book.

I'm Reform, but I got to help my synagogue make our sukkah for the toddler sukkot celebration. It's so cool to see how more religious sects do this! Love your videos!

I love happiness ❤️ Thank you for sharing, I had not heard of this holiday before and found your video really interesting. Connecting to nature and how our ancestors experienced life appeals very much to me as a way to step out of the busyness and commercialisation of today and bring us back to the joy of spirituality and being with loved ones. I appreciate your content and always feel a sense of love emanating from your content. Thank you x

Thank you! I love seeing the different aspects of the holidays. Sukkot has always peaked my interest as a non Jew. Since the Torah instructs certain times of the year to G_d feasts of rememberence. Sukkot has to be my favorite! Thanks again for sharing.

Jewish people say they follow the Old Testament, but don't do what it says "Kiss the Son".
Christian people say they follow the New Testament, but don't do what it says: "Keep the Feast".
Does anybody follow the whole Bible?

    • @nicolegallagher4319
      @nicolegallagher4319 3 месяца назад

Judaism does not follow the old testament which has been blatantly corrupted by the church, in fact that term is offensive to Jews. The Tanach is the Jewish Bible.

I renounced idolitary (worship of JC) after 64 years, and now on a journey to convert to Judaism. I worship only the one true G-d of Israel. Our Rabbi just lectured about this holiday. I enjoyed the video all the way to the end.

I have to say that I really like your channel. I'm not Jewish, but my family is from the Netherlands and various Jewish foods are common. The one that always comes to mind first is the honey cake, which has become a breakfast staple there. I have lived in a few places where the local grocery store had fabulous Jewish holiday food available. Those have been some of my favorite times of the year. Curiously, I cook fairly closely to your kosher prep, in terms of details such as inspecting the food first for bugs or spoilage and so on.
The other thing I really like about your channel is the long list of kitchen tips. I have moved more often than I'd like, but each place inevitably has a weirdly shaped pantry and I have to rethink how to organize each one. You always seem to have ideas I haven't thought of before.
Currently I live on my own, so I'm no longer cooking family meals. I get so frustrated at not being able to get full use of fresh veg before it spoils. My experience of it was that putting it in plastic encourages spoiling, but then I watched you wrap a half used vegetable TIGHTLY in plastic wrap. I'd never really thought about the tight wrapping completely keeping air out as we would do for the surface of a cornstarch pudding. So now I'm taking your tips for making food last for your family food budget, and using them to be able to stop food spoiling before I can use it all.
I am mindful of the Judeo part of Judeo-Christian and think the Jewish roots and the respective crlebrations are important to keep in mind.
Keep up the good work. Amazing how you keep up between job, family, and required daily tasks.

I love happiness! I read a book series when I was a child called "All of a Kind Family " that described the life of a Jewish family in New York in the early 1900s. I LOVED those books! They described all of the holidays, including Succoth. The holiday sounds so fun. I was surprised that the prophets come to visit! I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday.
