Adam Tobolowsky my current set up is a tremec t56 with stronger synchros & 3-4 tooth is stronger. Ford IRS 8.8 rear end with 3.73 svt gears. The fly wheel is something that’s unknown for me. I may had overlooked it in the paperwork, there was a lot! I didn’t do the build myself. this is my second 94 Miata, I still have my 1.8L 94 for the street :)
What I need to do first is a dry sump, it’s my biggest concern. The previous owner tracked the car on semi slicks & didn’t have any oil pressure issues but I’d rather not take the chance.
Pete Mullin continuous...ha, doing Aero right now. As it sits in this video. Moton Coilovers 315/345 tires with CCW wheels T1 Sway Bars 30-40k in the motor with dry sump Wide fenders $6800 custom built tranny $3,000 in the rear end Carbon driveshaft 10k brakes Tilton clutch/flywheel Blah blah blah 50k + for sure You could replicate something similar for 30-40K or so... cheaper suspension, used ZR1 tranny, 3.73 gears, rebuilt LS7 with a big cam, wheels and tires. Totally worth it when you burn 675LTs and pace 918s in a C5Z :)
I appreciate that. But I'm not in a position to start this project yet. Just doing casual hardware homework way ahead of any kind of financial reality. Plus, I doubt I could realistically swing that kinda budget on a $20k'ish car. I do some similar driving for a couple companies as an instructor, and have a friend who I teach with that also works at Katech here in Michigan. They have an engine build option for the C5 Z that caught my attention. They call it the Johnny O'Connel package. I'm just looking for reliable power without forced induction, and 20-30 minutes per session of handling / braking that can piss off any high end toy that I'm likely to come across at any of the tracks that I teach at.
Oh, I know. And I still totally appreciate that. Sorry if you thought that I was trying to brush off a used car salesman. Not my intent. Any guidance towards acquiring my own C5 Z, and getting it to sound as angry as yours is welcomed.
skierman64 the car has no aero, and a custom built polished short ratio TR6060 tranny with a 3:73 rear end. So, the RPMs in 5th are ideal for laying down power on exit. I can floor it earlier vrs 4th gear has a high rpm on exit. It's a toss up sometimes but the idea is to achieve more speed and my 5th makes power.
when down shifting coming out of the longer striaghts, are you letting the clutch out for every gear you downshift through ? example from 5th to 3rd. are you heal toeing to 4th letting out the clutch while still maintaining brake pressure, then heal toeing to 3rd ? I've always been unsure about the proper way to do it
@Brax_beezy that's a great question, I am releasing the clutch, watch my legs. Delaying the downshifts is key when coming from 6th>2nd. It gives you more time to between gears so you can release the clutch, it doesn't overslow The car etc.
@Brax_beezy delaying the downshift as keep your foot on the brake pedal for 1 second longer and start your downshifting process later in the brake zone, this way you don't over blip and don't over slow the car. Delay as in time delay.

Build cost?
Pete Mullin continuous...ha, doing Aero right now.
As it sits in this video.
Moton Coilovers
315/345 tires with CCW wheels
T1 Sway Bars
30-40k in the motor with dry sump
Wide fenders
$6800 custom built tranny
$3,000 in the rear end
Carbon driveshaft
10k brakes
Tilton clutch/flywheel
Blah blah blah
50k + for sure
You could replicate something similar for 30-40K or so... cheaper suspension, used ZR1 tranny, 3.73 gears, rebuilt LS7 with a big cam, wheels and tires. Totally worth it when you burn 675LTs and pace 918s in a C5Z :)
Awesome stuff. I'm considering building the same car, and just wanted to get an idea of how deep of a hole that I'll need to explain to my wife.
Pete Mullin I’m not trying to sell you, just trying to guide you.
Oh, I know. And I still totally appreciate that. Sorry if you thought that I was trying to brush off a used car salesman. Not my intent. Any guidance towards acquiring my own C5 Z, and getting it to sound as angry as yours is welcomed.
Literally cried
You let that 911 eat your lunch, you snack and your Slim Fast shake! Nice safe video though!
Pete Butler that’s a 991 GT3 cup car on slicks lol
@@AdamTobolowsky Whoops, I didnt realize it was a GT3. My bad!
It would be cool to see this car slam through tail of the dragon
Great video..exhaust note is pure sex!
Nice driving, beautiful soundtrack. Why 5th gear through the triple apex?
skierman64 the car has no aero, and a custom built polished short ratio TR6060 tranny with a 3:73 rear end. So, the RPMs in 5th are ideal for laying down power on exit. I can floor it earlier vrs 4th gear has a high rpm on exit. It's a toss up sometimes but the idea is to achieve more speed and my 5th makes power.
skierman64 I also try 4th at the end of the video, you can see where I show my buddy and stick my hand out
Sounds absolutely MEGA. This is Not helping to ease my temptation to buy a C5 for the track.
Honestly curious as to how this was not removed as pornographic content
Pure Evil coming out of that muffler...
Dan Cullen6 u 5 tug u 77 straight pipes! No mufflers 🤘 it has a monster cam!!!
my tr6060 certainly dont shift that well
🙌 ha right! Neither does my C7ZR1...this car has a micro polished stage 5 RPM TR6060. I wanna say it cost $5,800 10 years ago or so...
@@AdamTobolowsky heck. yeah thats outa my league
2:20
Man......
ain't saying nothing just listen
Hi from 2024 this vette sounds like satan by the way
You have to know this steering wheel is from wish
Car sounds great. The hand commentary however .... cringe.
Steve Peters lol thanks, I appreciate the honesty!
Was it your first time out or are you just learning how to race.
Skills are lacking...
Spdygon lol I did a 2:21 lap time in a 2004 C5 Z06 in stock aero...
You're insane and you have no clue what you're talking about
when down shifting coming out of the longer striaghts, are you letting the clutch out for every gear you downshift through ? example from 5th to 3rd. are you heal toeing to 4th letting out the clutch while still maintaining brake pressure, then heal toeing to 3rd ? I've always been unsure about the proper way to do it
@Brax_beezy that's a great question, I am releasing the clutch, watch my legs. Delaying the downshifts is key when coming from 6th>2nd. It gives you more time to between gears so you can release the clutch, it doesn't overslow
The car etc.
when you say delaying the downshift what do you mean , exactly
@Brax_beezy delaying the downshift as keep your foot on the brake pedal for 1 second longer and start your downshifting process later in the brake zone, this way you don't over blip and don't over slow the car. Delay as in time delay.
@Brax_beezy notice my hand on the shifter on the high speed brake zone downshifts, how I always pause for a second or so
I see what you mean thank you I also have a c5z I just got so I'm trying to transfer over from how I drove my Miata, do you have a Instagram I can follow you at? I'd like to see more of your car
