    • @jakell99
      @jakell99  3 года назад +10

      Out of all the songs on an upcoming album, one (or maybe more) would usually be released as a single in order to promote it. This worked for some styles of music more than others, and non-pop bands such as Pink Floyd for instance, would struggle - I recall 'Another Brick In The Wall' being a bit of a stretch, but it did quite well, other examples might be Hawkwind and Silver Machine, Black Sabbath and Paranoid, even Focus did quite well with Hocus Pocus.
      This sketch is very neat in that the 'punchline' is the _only_ line..

To be fair a lot of mainstream guitar bands in the u.k. charts in this period had this sound as it sold records at the time, its just oasis came out with it first and record companies wanted other bands to have the sound as it was the trend and sold cds but this song does sound a mix of supersonic meets shakermaker meets cigarettes and alcohol. Check out Brian Pern ( which is Simon Day's fictional character based on Peter Gabriel - the guy on the left of this video sketch) check out and watch 'Brian Pern sing Poundland Polly' on youtube . . . a parody of the Oasis performance on the word from 1994 - pretty funny.
