Yep sadly that’s true. The only ones who can afford to go to Premiership games now are the wealthy middle class Hooray Henry’s, especially dons south. Just look at the crowds at the England games. It’s all management types who’ve secured a few England tickets through some corporate jolly or sweetener. I remember when I used to go to the Birmingham city matches way back in the early 90s when were in the old division 2 and kids could get in for a quid. That’s why I don’t even bother with football now, it’s all money and the few that can afford it, I don’t even watch England play anymore, which is why I’m more into Rugby league now..

I literally sat in front of 'this guy' once. Not long after hull city got their new stadium and there was a surge in new supporters, although we were in the old 3rd division still. Was watching a crappy midweek evening match against Barnsley and the bloke behind me would not shut up comparing every players abilities vs Beckham! Player gets tackled - loses the ball 'he's no Beckham'. Player takes a half decent shot at goal 'he's a budding Beckham'.

Hence why at most premier league grounds esp the newer ones the atmosphere is generally is Flat, staged, stale.

They all turned up at Reading when we went up on 2 occaisions. Buggered off when we went down. Pain in the arse......
Goto the away games as well, Arsenal were by far the worst. This was really close to the mark for them.

Get your point - genuinely hope the Royals get back this year, playing good football. The first year you got up under Coppell was a revelation - Doyle etc were superb. I was there for our cup game and did stay until the end if only to see Chamakh score which was something of a rarity. I remember Elm Park - proper ground unless it rained!

@@rogerramjet5302 cheers mate. as sad as it was to see the back of Elm Park, we desperatly needed an upgrade to progress. To finish that high in the Premier League was disappointing. Missed out on Europe on goal difference, then got relegated the following season. Clubs like Chelsea taking our players for next to nothing and shoving them in the reserves (eg Kitson) hurt us badly.

@@Clem_Fandango11 tell me about it! Ashley Cole, Fabregas, Giroud - admittedly some of those departures were from the club but then add in Van Persie, Clichy, Nasri etc and we’ve been a feeder club too. Youve had some great players over the years with Quinn, Gilkes, Lita, Long, Hislop etc. Showing my age but I do miss grounds like Highbury and Elm Park - remember a match many moons ago when you sang to us ‘are you Swindon in disguise?’. Brilliant but factually inaccurate as none of us bought livestock or wore wellington boots!

Chelsea worse once they got the minted Russian. I know someone I was at school with who definitely wore a Hammers top in P.E. but denied it, when We met up at a school reunion, and told us he was a season ticket holder at the chavs. There's a few like that.
