Hey Wolfman and Tick, so excited that you've finally got a Polygon. I agree with you guys, the Premier range is way overpriced in the US (I also didn't know that they export them to the US...). Back home in Indonesia the Premier 4 costs around $290 and the top spec 5 $340. And yes, the bike's geometry was last updated in 2019 or 2018 if I remembered correctly, so it is a tad bit outdated. But the thing is, although marketed as an entry level MTB, the Premier was never conceived as such. The first generation of Premier was actually a trekking bike, nice to ride around neighborhood but still sturdy enough to handle some basic green trails. It was since the second generation onwards (I think this one is the 5th generation) that Polygon beefed it up to be an All Terrain Bike, coherent to the market demand back home for an affordable allrounder. They were (and are still) not a fully fledged mountain bike, I've actually ridden the 3rd generation Premier, and I do think that they have a point, it was comfortable enough for me to enjoy cruising around town, and it could handle some tricky trails, but it would be destroyed by gnarly stuffs, unlike the big brother Xtrada. So I guess it would be of a fairer comparison if the Premier is considered as a mid level ATB, instead of entry level MTB (I'm not trying to defend Polygon though, I just happen to have ridden multiple models of their bikes and I would really love to share some insight to the relatively new brand in the US 😀). And when you review it, please be careful, I have ridden the same Deli Tires and on wet conditions they are as slippery as an eel! Love the show and stay rad dudes 🤙
I think you nailed it on who this bike is for. If I was buying at this price point, I would consider either the GT or Kent Trouvaille. Theres plenty of low cost upgrade options to bring either of these up to speed. It's too bad that Polygon, who really is en vogue right now with their well-spec'ed dual-suspension offerings, couldn't have produced a better tbought out and equipped bike at this price point.

I had a Polygon Xtrada 5 which is similar to this bike. I cut 50mm off the seat stem so I could get it lower. It was still long enough for climbing.
BTW, the crome in the background is exactly what my foster dad got for me me to keep me off his "Huffy" sponsored road bike and stop crashing it.

Hey All! Long time listener 1st time caller here! I like polygon as a good budget option. I ride a pretty stock T7 myself. I don't think this is a great deal. It's ok but they didn't quite hit the mark IMHO on this one. The geo should be better for this price point and a less expensive 1x would be better in this price point, again my $0.02.

The 44 head tube also provides more weld area and more of a contact point with the top tube.
Welcome to the polygon family, been ripping my Siskiu N9 for about 3 years now and it’s been great (after a couple upgrades of course) - this one seems to be the bottom of the barrel and probably not a good representation of the whole brand

Agreed. I absolutely love my Siskiu T8! Didn’t expect to see one of those, of course, but I was really hoping there was at least an Xtrada 5 in that box.

In our (German) bike shop we're currently having several Cube Attention for 759€ (roughly 833$) on sale. Modern Geometry, Rockshox Judy Air fork, MT-200 (180/160), Deore 11-Speed rear derailleur, 2x SLX Front Derailleur. I love test riding those - they go off like a rocket and the front and rear shifting is A+. I'd take one of those over this Polygon for sure!

Polygon has awesome bikes....this is just a bargain basement model! My D7 has 2500 miles of hard rocky trail under it with no issues and very fun to ride. I actually swap all my Presta's to Schraders when I go tubless and Stan's.

I have a polygon and love it! Just so you know those x15 rims are tubeless compatible. The website doesn't say it but I did ask bikes online and they confirmed it!

i'm very familiar with this bike. last year, i bought Marin's version, which is called the Eldridge for $500. i rode it 1 time, then sold it. the 1st issue was the lack of dropper support. the 2nd was never feeling like i was in the right gear. 2x's suck on mtbs. lol. the 3rd issue and final straw was the weird frame sizing and overly short reach. honestly, this bike should have drop bars on it and sold as a gravel bike. lol. great video, guys!
Yeah exactly what I was thinking the headtube angle is very close to a gravel bike.
Great review. Polygon is a new MTB player here in the Philippines selling mostly high-end bikes from Hard Tails to FullSus. I think we do not have that model in our market or I have not seen it yet. Entity products are common among Polygon bikes. Love u guys!!!
I liked the clouts more than the MT200 and Tektro 275. mainly because it comes with metallic pads VS Resin
Love that you guys will give an honest review, instead of having to fluff it up because the manufacturer sent for review (maybe a contract or something). Saw someone who was sent a polygon FS and he said it rode just like his $4000 bike... highly doubtful!
I think Polygon really shines in the mid-range competition. For $575, I wouldn't be convinced to buy this bicycle shaped object.
I love my polygon D5 your going to have to ride it you may be surprised and like it a lot. ?? Or not?? Cant wait to see the test video.. I think my D5 had that same fork it actually worked pretty good for what it was.

Hi on Chain reaction there are some droper post at that size 27.2 for the price of $70-160cad including the remote!
It's a Great looking bike. But I think they cut corners with the groupset and derailleur, chain slap all day long. Totally agree with some of the comments that Polygon has great options for full suspension, but this hardtail kinda falls short for the price + shipping.

A well set up 2x or even 3x can be amazing, especially if you're racing xc. I use my old 26 inch bike as some sort of gravel bike with a 3x9 xt and I don't have any issues with it at all. Im stoked tho how this 2x8 stacks up.

I drill all my rims to schreider. Wolfmans idea for bigger rear rotors might be worth trying, bigger rear rotor might give you more feel without locking up

I have the premier 5 its a great bike
External routing of the rear brakes, makes it easier to swap out and removes the hassle of bleeding after installation
The beauty of shimano drive train, even the lower end such as altus, acera, alivio, they are easy to tune and shift easily. 2x isn't all that bad, it has more usages. It be ridden on pavement with decent speed, probably top out around 18 mph. This bike would be great for someone who is trying out easy green trails, and still able to ride on the streets.
Oh, a little disappointed, no wolf dad dyno. Even without a lockout, wolf dad can still do the dyno and test the claimed 120mm of travel.
Brilliant unboxing review guys, sad that Polygon of all people skimped on this bike, it seems like they are churning out old geometry stuff and thriowing some things on it to make it appeal to those who are less in the know its the old (Mutton dressed as lamb) trick i thought Polygon of all people wouldnt try that but hey ho here we have an example of this.
Guys great show guys i'll look forward to the ride review that'll really show this bike for what it is i think. I considered the Poly Sisku 7 (dal sus) a while back which was raved about and i have heard good stuff about other models they do but this seems a bit of a let down .... we will see guys, great show though well done
Polygon have a good reputation, but I can't figure this one out. I think it could've been better specced for the money. We'll see how it goes on the realtime.

I have the Acera on my Axum DP and am happy with it. I would take this bike and. 1. Do a 1X conversion replacing the crank and the rear cassette. 2. Replace the fork with an air fork, maybe a Manitou Markour or a Suntour Epixon and 3. Larger rotors, either 2 180s or 180 front 160 rear and finally 4. dropper post. This could get it under 30 pounds. Love the look overall.
I have a Cascade 4 that I upgraded with a SRAM SX 1x12 drivetrain, Shimano MT400 brakes, Rockshocks Judy fork, PNW handlebar, grips and pedals. Just need to add a dropper at some point and it will be a sweet hardtail.
I just bought a large troubaille and plan on adding hydraulic brakes and dropper pputting me at that $600 price point. Wider tires bigger brakes and a simpler drivetrain with about the same number effective gears.
One note, i have a set of the standard M1 Clark brakes on my bike, adjust by my local bike shop, no issue it give me all the braking force i need also i get no fade. The only thing i did was change the brake pads to hardheadedram downhill brake pad.

Pros- 29er, 1x, Tektro m275 hydraulic brakes (your favorite, Tick), -$220 from $760 to $540. I like the green option.
Cons- 1x8, I think most of the other negatives are to be expected at this price point

16:22 this RD will work well, the previous version did, no clutch means chain slap, so more of a commuter, city bike RD, and I think it only does max 32T or something tiny like that.
The only thing holding back some of these more budget friendly hardtails is that they don't accept wider tires. Thats one thing I liked about your Kent Trouvaille video
Just recently bought a 29 inch specialized rockhopper for 499 upgraded front rotor ( 180 ) forks ROCKSHOX ( SOLO AIR FORK ) and platforms ( aluminum ROCKBROS ) less then $ 600
I love a 2 by 11. I bought a set of race face turbines an now the groups hurt just a little less 😅
A 160mm rotor on the rear is enough for most riders, even the hardcore ones. 180mm+ is overkill in the rear but crucial at the front. At pretty much any speed, with minimal lever power the rear wheel with 160mm is going to lock anyways and tire is going to skid. That being said, even if you use the rear more often, you do need MORE power on the front, that's why 180mm/203mm is important. Keep it up guys!

Y’all need to review the polygon Syncline. I’m sure a lot of us would be so excited to see a full carbon hard tail on your channel. They’ve got on sale for $999.99. Always been super intrigued about the bike and there’s not that many videos on it.
Btw I’ve been a fan since I started the hobby. Built my GT aggressor pro because of you guys. Now I ride a Polygon siskiu T8 and I can’t get enough of it! Thank you guys so much for getting me into such an addicting sport!
Delitire currently used for low-mid Polygon bikes. And it's the same manufacturer as the "Delium" tires, an Indonesian brand 🇮🇩 . bang for buck

Im 6'4 and 225, and i like most 27.5 bikes but most frames I've seen larger are on the 29ers. I dont wanna buy a 27.5 and its super small . I went into Walmart and sat on a 27.5 and a 29er. I dont know. Any recommendations

Bikesonline doesn't play with their packing. I have ordered two bikes from them and was impressed with the packaging. I used the velcro straps to transport my bikes in my truck and van, I even had to use one on my bmx racing bike due to losing a brake cable clip before a race. I absolutely love your channel and the father and son dynamic. All my bicycle adventures not only include my two sons (18 & 20), but also my daughter (16). Thank you for all the great reviews and projects....keep up the great work. :)
6:31 that's one of the shortest stem I've seen on a XC bike. Which makes me curious about the head angle.

paying a little more for the xtrada puts you in another league for performance and components. i like that seat though. my youngest daughter hast that on her xtrada.
For the light riding you do 160 rotors should work fine. You just need a halfway decent brake caliper and lever.
Looking at getting a polygon in the UK
Frames and forks have a rotor size limit set by the manufacturer for safety reasons. You don't usually use 180+ on a QR rear. The bike having 2.1 tires on 27.5 wheels but has coil fork, 2x and weird geo. Not really a Cross country bike or a Trail bike. Looks like its meant for older teenagers/college kids riding around town/campus or the occasional bike path

I would get a Specialized Rockhopper currently on sale
The price is fine, but id rather spend a bit more and get a higher end used bike. Polygon is a great brand, but i prefer their higher end models.
I got a xtrada 6 few weeks ago and had a cheaper fork than it was supposed to have still a great bike but I was somewhat upset about it
Man I would be too, we understand limited inventory but, there's no way it's that difficult to change a description.
a trouvaille plus a rs recon rl can be had for less, though the trouvaille is more trail geo vs xc on the premier. For another xc, one can walk into a store and get a base rockhopper for $499 or the next up for probably $575 or spend less than $200 and get something similar used the slap a brake upgrade on.
the value of their fs bikes seems pretty good but not this
I have the Rockhopper sport (560 or so on sale). Has 2x, coil fork, hydraulic brakes...does have presta and the shop was able to put an internal routed dropper on it.

The bike isn’t bad at all expect I had to change the tires and the tubes when I got it. The tires aren’t built for a trail so you have to buy good ones from your local bike shop.

15:52 This RD had a nut instead a bolt there on older models, new design is better, RD still looks exactly the same otherwise, butt no silly bolt and nut, so if that comes loose you would need an ratchet with a bit or an adjustable wrench. But don't be surprised if you some bike will come with old RD. I few years ago I kept seeing other models like M772 on newer than this rd by several models, so same can happen with this one or other rd's even 5 years or 10 years after sometimes. I guess they have to use up old stock they did not use up.

At this price point, Trek Marlin 5 or Specialized Rockhopper Sport 29. Hydro brakes, better gearing, and geometry that makes sense.
I'm with Pops on the rear brakes. I got FLAMED on reddit for suggesting sticking my dual pitson on the back and single on the front.

Great video fellas ! All cheap bikes hsould have cable actuated disc,never hydro. It is a recipe for disaster. Just my opinion

Does anyone else make a mountain bike that's around $600. I think Vitus, Canyon, YT have started charging a lot more than that. Vitus probably use to have the budget hardtails to beat for $800ish but now they start at $1200.
$600 might be a good amount if your looking in used market or for a fixer-upper though. Or maybe you can get Disk's Sporting Goods bikes for a around $600 that are basically Walmarts bike with a little bit higher prices.

That bike was probably built when parts were hard to come by. Not long ago Tektro brakes had an almost 2 year wait. Even Trek put Promax Hydro brakes( absolute junk) although spec’d as Tektro’s on the site.
Bike companies put on what they can get heir hands on just to get bikes built, and I’m sure this is why this has Clarke brakes instead of Tektro’s.
Not at that price 2x8 and they didn't grind down the inside of the frame to get the seat all the way down. A upgrade bike should be priced at 300
Those bolts on the seat tube are more of a problem than a solution.
For that price it should have a drop or post hope port hole.
20:20 Zoom mostly makes trash, but I've never tried their stems and bars, but their suspension is a joke.
They could be seen on would cup bikes in the 90s, but now it's only on cheapest bikes, or low end mtbs.
suspension forks with 28mm stanchions, and no adjustment, quill stem, probably their most known product, garbage forks that make the bike handle unpredictably.
But their stems look good, but never tried any.
I see they do boost forks now, with some adjustments, but I doubt they are good.
