  • I embark on a Fall Solo Camping and Bushcraft Trip here in Canada, where I forage and harvest Wild Chaga Tea, build a Bushcraft Ladder, and camp under a Tarp with a beautiful Campfire. I love Bushcraft survival trips like this, and try to do one every month or so.
I've felt overwhelmed with constant stimulus and distractions in my life recently. So I decided to get back into nature and enjoy some time alone. I made the decision to fast for 36 hours while out there, and I wouldnt be talking or getting distracted in any other way.
I don't fast often, but I have gone long periods of time without eating, most notable on a 9 day stretch while surviving in the Labrador Wilderness - so I was sort of prepared for this one mentally. Regardless, one of the things ive come to learn from it is I get very vivid dreams and seem to wake up every hour - not in torment, in fact it's a daze like state which is easy to fall back asleep, and I wake rested. But it's just something Ive found. The Fast gave me an amazing reset in my life. I will definitely be doing another trip like this!
This is a fully immersive ASMR adventure, where I build a number of bushcraft projects, including a Pot hanging Tripod, Backpack Hanging Stick, Bushcraft Ladder, and even some flyfishing and crayfish catching.
I've updated with Closed Caption subtitles for anyone wanting to watch in a different language!
Lots of the gear I use I just make myself and some is available for sale:

So... That might sound cheesy, but I find in your content a glimpse of my late father.
He loved nature more than anything, and was always radiating happiness when teaching me small things, showing me stuff I was excited to learn. Sadly, he passed away before I could really realize what immense luck I had to have him, and before he could pass on to me his knowledge and vision of the world. That being said, I inherited in full his love of life and his fascination with nature.
Today, stumbling upon this video, and your video tutorial of your 10 most important knots, I found a share of that in you and your content. I even grabbed some paracord I had lying around for months and started learning knots out of nowhere earlier in the day, and just now I had let go, let time flow for a minute, without thinking about it, while looking at this small journey you shared with us.
Thanks for that, DJ. It was some much needed peace as I'm sick and the tension is rising for my firefighter exams, next week.
Have a good one, my friend! Have a good life.

I wish you much luck in your firefighting exams. Please let me know how they go, and feel free to reach out to me via email or dm on insta. As a firefighter myself, I’d be happy to help share advice or just my personal journey.

When I first saw that the video was 32 minutes long, I thought, I'm not going to watch all of this. Then I saw that I was 25 minutes into the video. Very captivating with majestic sounds of nature. I wouldn't have thought to make a ladder, I used to carry 8 or 10 screw in ladder rungs. They work well but do scar the tree. Well done.

@TheBearEssentials They're like a hand crank. One end is threaded like a wood screw, and you crank it into the tree, alternating from one side to the other about 20 inches apart. Then climb up like a ladder.

Haha!! It is an insane amount of behind the scenes work, For the 2nd shot canoeing in, no word of a lie a black bear was swimming toward my camera about 15 ft away from me just off screen. I couldn’t get back fast enough to film it!!
I’m glad you picked up on the sleeping scene, so funny to do this stuff, I had to take 3 diff angles waking up like that, then the camera in my hand for showcasing the interior moisture. All while I was pretty tired and no morning coffee haha!

I have to try that ladder. That cord looked like the same paracord that you made the pot hanger from, does it work with 550 paracord? I can see it being used as protection against stray dogs and other wildlife that cannot climb. Could theoretically be used against hostile humans if you manage to raise the ladder out of reach somehow. Like in the case of a tree fort.

    • @TheBearEssentials

    • @TheBearEssentials
      @TheBearEssentials  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks a bunch!!
If you start from the bottom, each rung you put in tightens the entire line above it. The tension makes it remarkably secure.
The marlinspike method would work if you have a rope ladder with wooden rungs much better. If you have the beams like this, you’d have to find a way to bind the rope to the beams as well I would think.

Yeah I do. It's a LOT of behind the scenes work and thinking of how best to capture the moments.
I think you'll like this, if you check out where I'm climbing the ladder for instance.
Watch the Axe on my side pouch. That sequence of building the ladder was very hard to capture and I needed to actually build and climb it 4X times to get the close ups, far shots, and angles assembling it. The axe on my side pouch switches directions in a few of the shots.... An aspect I figure no-one else but you and I may catch haha
