Solo Hammock Camping∙Building a Stone Oven Campfire
HTML-код

- Out solo hammock camping where I take on some bushcraft projects like the stone camp oven to beak some bread. I also show a solid tarp setup, introduce you to the type of hammock I use, and cover some ropes and knots. A little fishing action too.
This was my first solo vlog style video. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for this... I've been re-playing specific elements of this video.
So fantastic I stumbled on your channel.. I’m a regular viewer of UK based guys and a few Canadians such as lost lakes an Xander, but you take the time to explain and educate as well as such excellent vlogs of your adventures. You have another subscriber from across the pond my friend. Good work man 👍🏼
Wow thank you so much!!
I think I’ll be doing more education based content nowadays rather than camping vlogs- I feel like they help people out a bit more.
But I’m still trying to find what I enjoy doing most for videos.
Very nice to meet you, thanks for stopping by!
Why isn’t this video at more views
Thanks for saying this Justin!! This is my first one (long form). Im sure they will catch on with time :)
@@TheBearEssentials do you sell those satchels that hold your axe?
@@RogueBeats.mp4 Ya man I do! The ones with the rivets are more secure for holding your axe if that’s your main goal / for add ons for canoes or quick removal etc though, then the snaps are your best bet (still holds an axe, but less secure ofcourse)

I think that here we see the unfair side of social media suggestion algorithms. Not quality content is valued, but the compatibility of the video with the platform's monetization mechanisms. From RUclips this means:
Optimal length 10-18 min., buzzwords in the title, likely related to actually relevant topics and most of the viewers users are watching it to the end without skipping much.
Especially the last point is contradictory to the approach of this video, which seems to give a REALISTIC impression of all the things being done and experienced here. I value this approach very much - but it is not 100% compatible to the short-attention-span quick-moving social media world we have today.
Many viewers might start watching this video somewhere with limited time and jump out after 5 minutes - maybe with the intention to watch the full video in a quiet hour at home. But for the algorithm, jumping out after 5 minutes is marking the video as "less relevant content" - which will be suggested less.
I really like the video as it is - and I'm a bit sad to see such formats completely disappearing over the time since effort and outcome for the creators isn't matching anymore.
But there is a possibility to link the desired audience to videos like this as well:
Once a channel ist established, links to the long video could be added to potentially more successful shorter videos when the topic fits. In addition, some promotion in the description below the short ones might help. And if necessary, creating these portrait-mode shorts matching to the most relevant chapters might bring some traffic - with a link in a pinned comment and mentioning the long one in the short. Last thing: A survey (with link to video): "Have you ever considered staying in Nature overnight with just a sleeping bag?" with answers "done already", "nothing for me", "sounds appealing" & "is on my bucket-list" could create some visibility.
By the way, comments & discussions below a video will help it as well :-)
I was just wondering that
Wow. This is very well done and informative. Love your style!
Glad to find this channel while its so small. Keep it up!
Why do I enjoy DJs videos so much?
Greetings from the southeastern US!
Greetings from your neighbour up north.
Thank you so much for the kind words my friend!!!
Interesting hammock design. Ima perpendicular hammock sleeper.
Ah that’s a great way to do it!!
Nice to see something different, than a canoe hike typical thing
Oh that’s awesome thanks for saying that
Thank you again for your teaching. The first slice with the bow saw was brilliant for me. Other subtle things were excellent for me. Thank you.
Hey thanks for going back on my library and watching this one :)
I’m rapidly working through DJ’s back catalogue of videos! Absolutely fantastic stuff. One of my very favourite RUclipsrs! You can’t fail to learn something new each and every time! 👍🏻
Glad you like them! Thanks for actually going through the older ones chris!!
Always a great video with adventure, great skills and leaning experiences. I think DJ and Xander Budnick (from Ontario) would make a great pair for a future adventure. So many similarities and Xander wants to learn how to fly fish better. Thank you DJ, Blessings
HI ! Also Canadian and new to this channel and i already love it ! Great vids and very usefull tips ! Thanks !
Marco, hello and thanks so much!!!
Love your videos. Did my first kayak back country and your videos were helpful!
Thanks a bunch!! how was the trip? How many days was it?
@@TheBearEssentials booked 21 but went home for a 2 days in the middle. Wasn't as remote as I wanted but great for a first trip
@@Night7Star wow that’s a good one still! Well done! Must have been great
I've been studying the knots. Looking forward to camping this summer. I will be using the taut line hitch. Planning to impress all of my children and their spouses. Keep up the informative videos. I love watching them.
Wohooo! Please shoot me a pic or vid of your setup Kathleen :)
love that reverse fire, I do something similar when I go camping, didnt know there was an actual name for it lol, thanks for this very informative video handsome ;)
Hey! You're so welcome, I think a lot of people do that type of fire just naturally and dont know the name. Thx for the compliments!!
Love this first long video. Our family watched it together. The context is well organized, variety of tips, nature, thrills, and comedic relief. Lighting and crisp clean shots were awesome. Transitions are so very well put. Keep it real and true to your purpose and goals! This is the very first camping/outdoor channel I am subscribing to! MORE please! (Also sent you DMs via your IG account). You've been messaging with my "otter" half, Jason).
Thank you so much Aileen!!! You and Jason have been a big support to me, and I'll always appreciate and remember that!!
Awesome video!! I really like all the info, tips and tricks u share. Liked and subscribed. Cheers 🍻 from Massachusetts USA
Hey thanks a bunch Matthew!! Much appreciated my friend. Cheers from Your neighbour up north 👊👊
Nice chill and interesting video, can't wait till the weather warms up and I can go out and apply some of these skills! Could you make a video about identifying those different types of trees and stuff
I absolutely will!! I think it would be helpful to a bunch of peeps!
Love what you're doing. You inspire me to be and do better🙌
You just made my day with this comment. Thank you so much 😁😁
As I’ve mentioned before and what one of the other subscribers said, I love the educational aspect of your videos! I’m so glad I found your channel and thank you for taking the extra effort to explain things! Keep up the awesome work!
Hey thank you so much.
Really means a lot to hear this. I don’t know if all, but I try to share whatever I do know :)
Thanks for sharing,beatiful channel
Thank you so much maurizio 👊
Just discovered your channel (thanks algorithm) and what an awesome intro into what you do. This video was great and I really like your knot video too. I'm a sucker for a good knot, lol.
Thanks a bunch Graham! This was my first sort of longer form vids. I’m glad you went back and discovered this one :) welcome!!
my first video...I liked it 🙂👍
I’m happy you liked it!! Thx for watching
Great video for explaining techniques. Nicely paced. Thanks mate
Hey my pleasure. This was my first one of this style. Might do more Vlog style talking ones here and there if I keep getting some great feedback like this :)
Very Awesome Adventure
Thank you for Sharing
Happy Trails
Thanks David!
When you sat on the slab over the fire, a great line would have been there “looks like we’re havin rump roast tonight”.
HA!!! This is good. I’m definitely stealing this line for another video :) thank you!
New sub. Came over from Britt & Teunis's channel. Glad I found this video. I leave next week for 23 days in Algonquin and I'm a first time hammock user so these tips were very useful. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Rob
Ah that’s amazing!! Britt and Teun are awesome.
23 days!! Man thats a trip!! Enjoy rob!! Let me know if the brook trout fishing is good for ya! Im headed in on Friday for a few
I just found your channel today, and have no idea how it’s taken so long for me to get here. Thanks so much for the fantastic videos!! 🙏🏻✨
Ahh thank you so so much for the support. I’m glad you’re liking the channel!!! I only started just less than a year ago so I’m still figuring it all out :)
Recently found your knot videos and am enjoying everything else. Love learning about camping the outdoors. Going to be going on a few kayak camping trips this year in Wisconsin and plan to use a lot of the stuff I've leaned from your channel.
Oh I’ve heard Wisconsin is beautiful. I’ve never been but I think it’s very similar to southern Ontario where I’m from
Great video! I learned some valuable tips. Thank you!
You’re very welcome, thank you for taking the time to watch
that saw is amazing my friend. You should do a tutorial how to make one! Love the owen as well, good vid well done!
Thanks so much!! I’ll definitely be working on a tutorial for ya 👊
Love this video. Keeping it real and true to your purpose and goals! We want more please!
Great Video Thank You
I sure hope you climb your way to the top survival channels instead of the crazy prepper crap. The meditation alone will help. So peaceful.
Thank you, glad people are enjoying this :)
Man I'm on the edge of my seat watching this like what is he going to pull out of his pocket next.
Lmao!! Thanks so much!!
Thanks for taking us with you. In contradiction to YT, I appreciate the format.
See my snswer to Justin's comment.
Thanks so much Peter!! It’s always hard to please everyone I find. I appreciate you taking the time to day this!
Enjoy your Chanel

Great night out with tons of tips and tricks shown. That bread looked amazing and so did the steak. Got to ask, what was that pot you were using. Looked like a great size and good dimensions height vs. width.
Nate
I just want to say that you don’t need to split the wood to start a fire. I do it with three logs and it burns for days.
I just found you. This is my second video. Do you build those buck saws to sell? By chance.
Awesome video! I’m in southern Ontario, too! Thanks for the great content. What general area was this video made in?
Are you? That’s fantastic!
If you pull up a crown land map, this is one of the more southern areas near algonquin :)
What type of suspension system do you use? Is it one of warbonnets systems which you can buy together with the hammock or have you made your own?
Ya this came with the hammock it’s just a webbing strap then one called a woopie strap.
Thank you for your response. Very much appreciated!
I really like your channel and content. Thank you and keep up the great work!
@@epeome5really nice of you to say. Thanks for taking an interest in my work and all this :)
This is my favorite channel cant g er t enough of this guy and his outdoor knowledge one of the best channel's on RUclips bar nun...🌲🏕🔥
Awesome pit fire restoration.
Great video glad i seen your hammock and mat! 😂
-first time in a long time I seen real living. 🫡
All I would have needed is a k9 best best friend by my side to complete it!
