- No-Talking, ASMR. Building a Basic Survival Shelter Lean-To / Bushcraft Camp; using primitive skills to weave a hammock to sleep on, tapping a birch tree as my water source, and finally some delicious campfire cooking! This video is no-talking, ASMR, silent.
fire cooking!

This trip has a few bushcraft and primitive skills I wanted to play around with. I first aim to build a simple lean to shelter using natural materials found in the woods. However, losing light was a big challenge I faced, and ran out of time QUICK! It is a survival skill on it’s own to properly plan.
Because of that time, I only built a very basic shelter - so it wouldn’t withstand any tough weather conditions - but I was eager to get on to some more fun skills - such as harvesting grass and weaving that into rope and ultimately, a makeshift hammock to sleep on.
Again this task took me deep into the night, and it was so late by the time I was done, I just wanted too sleep and would make my fire and “Dinner” tomorrow morning for breakfast instead.
I passed out instantly from some level of exhaustion, and though In was woken a few times by the cold, I slept a surprising amount!
In addition to the tutorial aspect of the video, if you choose to use captions, I try to capture the beauty and peacefulness of the wilderness with cinematography. These trips are as much about having fun and testing my survival and bushcraft skills as they are about sharing techniques, and creating something beautiful. All of this together is a form of art for me.
Wether you’re a survivalist, prepper, are outdoorsy, a bushcrafter, camper, primitive enthusiast, or just love to unwind to silent vids, I think you’ll find something here and from my channel.
Thank you for stopping by, be sure to say hi in the comments!!

I’m fascinated by your commitment, here in the PNW, there’s been an overwhelming ‘leave no trace’ movement these last few decades.
Thx a bunch, it took til nearly midnight to finish the hammock, I was determined to do it though. Next time il get out earlier.
Ya this is on private land, so I enjoy building shelters and adding to them over time etc.
Love those Zebra pots. Never thought of using one for sap collection before.
He was using it to collect water but if you also like maple syrup…
Zebra pots are my absolute fav!! So good and useful
Sat here watching in rainy North East England ❤

Teun thanks so much man!! Just made my day 👊 let’s get out for a fish or camp this year, and at minimum - a beer 🍻 . Thx again man!
I like you tinsle bed . Very christmassy 😂 .
Lol I’ll have to do a holiday version next December!
I love seeing someone do the stuff that the survival books talk about. Leave it to DJ to go camping and use the land to its fullest. He doesn't even bring that much with him.
Hey this is just really nice to read. Thx for making my day. Was a great trip, I had never tried this before and so it took a fair bit longer than I had anticipated. But I’m really happy to be able to show the realistic nature of it!
Like your video 👍😊
Thank you Joann!
Hi DJ. I appreciate the video. Looking forward to my own Bushcraft journey soon in US Virginia.
Thanks so much, let me know when you go for it!!
Nice Work! Did you use Bank line or Paracord or was it both?
Great channel! Just discovered and subbed. Looking forward to more…
Thx a bunch!! What type of content do you like best, I’ve got a couple diff formats here :)
@@TheBearEssentials I’m liking everything. Your tutorials are first rate. I particularly appreciated the POV knot lesson aimed at visual learners. This is how I best absorb psychomotor skills. I was able to quickly learn some really useful knots over a few practice sessions. That said, the shelter building videos are the most fun. I am stoked to try a primitive oven now! So my suggestions are that you keep doing what you are doing… short practical lessons, and longer videos where those skills are put to use. Thanks for the content!
@@jayseven5eight253 amazing, thanks so much for this feedback!!!
What part of the world is this please?
You have great bushcraft skill and thanks for the video.
Hey!! This is in Ontario, Canada :)
Wow my Auntie is near Trenton
could you provide a guide for square lashing?
00:18 a baby snake with legs omg
Lol! Just a lil guy
No sleeping bag or underquilt or anything, just the sweaty clothes you worked in all night... What was the approximate temperature that night?
I hammocked once with some thin fleece blankets, a mylar reflective space blanket under me, a hoodie, a winter coat and a bunch of extra socks. With minimum temperatures around 6-9 °C the butt freeze effect still woke me up a few times.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I bought some better base layers and a Swagman Lite to use as an underquilt anyway.
Was probs 8-10 C.
Was extremely uncomfortable and the cold woke me up a few times. Exhaustion helped me fall asleep - this was a challenging one to say the least.
If I were to do this more of a camping style, I don’t even go for an under-quilt, instead I use my r7 exped sleeping pad in my hammock base, with a sleeping bag and I’ve camped at -20 with this setup.
I don’t like underquilt for the butt chill effect specifically.
Can I ask are they the RVRC trousers? Thanks
They are!! I love them!
@@TheBearEssentials me too. I get mine on Monday, love the colour of yours! I might have to get some more
