The trick I use to make a wood floor structure safe for putting a fire on the floor is a clay base with flat stones on top. The clay layer needs to be proportionally thick relative to the size and intensity of the fires you burn. For wood as thick as your wrist you want 2 inches of clay. I don't recommend burning anything thicker than your bicep (on a 4 inch clay base). Keep some water handy just in case.

I estimate no more than three years before enough of the wood has rotted that it becomes unsafe. First, eaving the bark on the wood speeds decomposition. Second, he didn't char the ends of his uprights where they are buried in the ground.

It’s all about what you design and build from what’s out there. Only thing I see that’s not what I would do is tying to a tree. The wind could break his shelter. New gear means he is thinking ahead. Nothing wrong with that. 😊

Every time when you go out to the nature to the Forest, to the jungles, to the lakes, rivers, the ocean and even to the desert please respect mother earth.... We natives have respected since the early days, make sure you look to the 4 cardenal points of mother earth (North, South, East and West) and give thanks for the stuff you're taking from it, wether it's a fish, a deer or yes even timber make sure you look up and say "Thank you for providing me with the things I needed the most to survive in this environment" and if you can whenever you go back to that place plant a flower or tree and keep everything going around like a cycle, at the end you'll be feeling good inside and you'll never have evil spirits around you....

Beautiful comment! Gratitude is so vital to our souls and to our spirit and so many dont understand the importance sadly. I prefer the inner gratitude of spirit. As I work, move through life, hike, etc, I offer gratitude through mental thanks and praise. Too many people today offer gratitude through voice and through deeds seen by others. All too much we see folks trying to show others their gratitude instead of allowing our spirit to be that channel of gratitude.
Thank you so much for you beautiful comment. I see so many folks get so negative in comment sections of RUclips and other platforms and I must say, its so refreshing to see such a beautiful comment. Thank you. 🙏🏻🙌🏻

I was thinking the same thing.
I also disagree with putting moss on top of the plastic roof material. It's going to dry out and fall off. It looks good for the video but it's worthless otherwise. There are better roof options, both for waterproofing and for finishing.

um hey friend just a pointer if you turn your hatchet upside down in the air after you get the head on there then hold the handle and wack the bottom of the handle so your axe will drive the handle into the head you will literally hit it like a nail it walk the head upward it will wedge that head on so tight but that's the proper way to have a better result hitting the head is not as efficient try it

Im worndering how that thin plastic used for the roof waterproofing held up to the heat of the camp stove? That stuff melts under the slightest abmount of heat. I personally would have used a regular green tarp for durability and less chance of warp and holes from the camp stove. But I do wonder how that thin plastic held up to the heat of the chimney and stove.

Trotzdem ein Like
