    I liked that you kept it short and straight to the point.
    I've been using Octane for 4 years, it's great for small and simple (or _VERY_ well optimized) scenes - beyond that it crashes constantly.

    I used Octane for 1.5 years and then moved to Redshift, at first out of curiosity (still loyal to Octane). I stayed w/ Redshift because the developer activity is totally insane (in a good way). They seriously listen to their customers and are super responsive. I once had a bug I pointed out in the forums addressed in the next build release 1 week later. And yes, it is more stable than what I remember from Octane, but it's not totally crash-proof. One of the things they're addressing in the upcoming version 3.0 (which has alpha build releases in the forums if you're a customer) is the need to "dig really deep into settings" for certain results. They're working on greatly simplifying that. The biggest thing I had missed from Octane was the post effects (bloom/glare) which they thankfully added earlier this year, and it's actually better than what I remember from Octane! But I am holding on to my Octane v4 license, just cuz :)
    It's about the developers for me!

    I've been using Redshift for some time now, and I really love it. The performance is great, but the only problem is it supporting other plugins. I've had so many issues trying to use other plugins, and even some of 3DS Max own particle system. Right now from what I've tested, it old works with PFlow, the other particles systems won't render. And the biggest headache is dealing with volumetrics, especially plugins like FumeFX. After creating the simulation, you need to save and import the VDB file, but somehow it always gives me very different results. Redshift did say that it was because of it being a GPU render and the FumeFX being cpu based, so it can't flow together directly. I was wondering what about Octane? Does it support most of the plugins, especially like FumeFX? Thanks!

    Octane is a beautiful renderer that I really wanted to use. However if your using it with Maya its absolutely rubbish, its good for making a few stills, it crashes non stop, you will run into so many brick walls with it, the support for it is absolutely rubbish and slow.
    I tried taking on a small production with it and I just ran into way too many problems.
    The support for Cinema 4D and octane is insane though so if your a cinema 4D user then Octane is a great choice however Maxon recently bought redshift so redshift will just get even better integration into cinema 4d in the future, Octane will have a hard time keeping up with the funding Redshift now has.

    • @hondmij
      @hondmij 4 года назад

      No, the plugin in cinema 4d is also way to unstable to use in production since v4. I love octane, but the constant crashes, slow updates, and the fact that you must use old drivers made me buy redshift.
      And boy, do I love redshift, the stability and speed alone makes me never use octane. Its a shame, cause octane was great, till v4 that is, and i refuse to buy the 2019 update because they wont release a stable v4.

    Doesn't take much effort to get realistic results from Redshift, so slightly biased (no pun intended lol) comparison. Used to use Octane, loved it. @@THEOexr If I can help, I worked with octane for over a year on freelance work before buying a license of Redshift this summer. I bought GSG's redshift course at the end of the summer but I was unable to finish the playlist. I find the videos painful to watch. Now, it's been over 3 months that I use redshift, and the adaptation was pretty smooth. I still haven't touch the logic nodes, but for regular shaders using specular, diffuse, SSS, etc, it was pretty much similar to octane, so I wasn't lost and got the hang of it pretty fast. In comparison to Octane, I personally find Redshift to produce a more "high end" imagery. It's easier to have beautiful render, not sure how I can explain it without going too deep in my thoughts aha
      The most important thing to know, and maybe the more complex to understand, is render optimization, which is completely different from Octane. Weirdly enough, GSG course didn't go through this most know feature, but a good friend of mine recommended this video, and seriously, after watching it, the concept was easily understood. ruclips.net/video/25YZ--F1aAQ/видео.html I highly recommend to watch at least the first 20min, afterward, it's a demonstration of the render optimization of a scene. The demonstration help a lot to understand what was explained before tho
