I was a 10 year old boy when that bulldozer was built. Not sure if it was made in Peoria, IL, where Caterpillar had many of its factories, but if it was made in the Peoria area, I lived only 30 miles away, and some of the people in my little town worked at Cat. I'm 64 now, and love how you got that old monster running so smoothly. They sure did a good job making heavy machinery back in the day.
A suggestion about adding oil: If you pour the bottle, bucket or can with the spout up at the 12 o'clock position instead of at the bottom at 6 o'clock, air gets in sooner and easier and you will not get the glug, glug, glug. Without that going on, the oil/transmission fluid or whatever will flow in easier and faster and you are not as likely to spill it.

Experience has shown that if you look after your tools and equipment it will serve you well. Judging by how hard the fluid plugs were frozen in place leads me to believe the fluids were either long overdue for replacement or maybe not changed at all. Great attention to detail in changing oil, trans fluid, greasing and filter changes ,Andrew , a valuable lesson for all equipment users/owners..👍👍👍

I love the intro to this video. Just a drone shot and straight to work. No need to tell us what the title already says. Keep up the great work Andrew and Co!
It amazes me reading the comments how many critics are on here. Didn't your parents ever teach you that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all? This is some of the best content on RUclips. If you don't like it, go watch something else. Anyway Andrew, keep on going and ignore the trolls. Fire extinguishers are a last resort. New t shirt design. I want to take time to brag on you big guy. You are one of three chancels who l rant the bell for and hit the like button before even watching, but Andrew I swear dude the time you put in to these videos along with the editing/filming quality is second to none. Best of the best, with no big sponsorship or nothing, just down right good damn videoing of real stuff!
Good that you're servicing it. A lot of old machines just get run until they stop dead. There should have been a lot more trans fluid in the bevel gear case.....like 25-30 gal. Part of the problem may be that it's leaking into that left hand final drive, which is probably why it was over full. Be sure to check the bottom of the torque converter housing too. There is a drain and a magnetic screen in the bottom. There should be only a couple of gallon the the torque housing. If there's lots more it can indicate a leaking torque converter which can cause overheating.
i mean theres what 25ish new gallons in there if he missed a few in the TC i think its fine, most people would of ran the old oil until the machine dropped dead
@@AndrewCamarata Ambition Strikes channel has a good video on their channel of fault finding the trans and torque converter on their Cat D8 (seal failure on torque converter). Maybe similar to your Cat
Thanks for the video Andrew, it's always nice watching you and Samantha tackling projects as a team. I noticed around time stamp 14:30 that someone had to resort to using a cold chisel and hammer to loosen that bolt you were struggling with. The manufacturer will have included the correct torque settings to use when tightening bolts and nuts and when the person servicing the machine decides to guess, well, that means the next person doing the service (you) will be on the struggle bus and waste a lot of time. LOL, Andrew accidentally sets the cat belly pan on fire and then says" I knew that fire was a good idea". Cute but still not as fun as " It broke for no reason". Cheers from Canada.

Glad you got that fire put out!! A suggestion. I put down one of those cheap blue tarps whenever I have to crawl under something in my gravel driveway, almost as good as using a creeper. ; -)
From your words to the guy trying to get the starter bolt off the international dump truck “pull harder” “I can’t pull any harder” “well pull harder” 😂 just so good never forget that.
Every time you pull start something Cody goes nuts. The sound of it, and the way you pull your arm back makes him think you're trying to get away from something attacking you. I guess he's protective of you.
If you ever want to run that thing in the cold without freezing, you can reverse the fan blades so they pull instead of push. We did that on our d8 building logging road in Pacific Northwest. Made winter days way more comfortable.
@@jimmyashley8002 You don't take the fan off and bolt it on the other way, you change the pitch of the blades so they throw air the opposite direction.

There were some great camera angles from around the 28:00 mark, I felt as though I was there. When you see that mountain of dirt heading towards you, and you realise the brutal power of those machines, awesome stuff....don't get in their way. Thoroughly enjoyed this video here in the UK....many thanks.
14:40.. When those plugs are stuck like that-- put your heat on the case around it, not the plug itself. And also it's good to have a little water squirt bottle.. You can get close and spray that plug (or bolt, etc) but try not to wet the casing, and that cooling will cause the plug to shrink, while the heated casing will still be expanded. So if you just spray it with water and then quickly try to crank on it before the heat finds equilibrium again-- you'll have a much better chance of getting it to break loose. The KEY" is to have as much of a DIFFERENCE in temperature as you can between the casing and plug: With the casing being hot and the plug being cold. Cheers.

Experience has shown that if you look after your tools and equipment it will serve you well.
Judging by how hard the fluid plugs were frozen in place leads me to believe the fluids were either long overdue for replacement or maybe not changed at all. Great attention to detail in changing oil, trans fluid, greasing and filter changes ,Andrew , a valuable lesson for all equipment users/owners..👍👍👍
def changed at one point... that's a 52 year old machine lol
Andrew, I don't know what the relationship is between you and "Sam" (I assume it stands for Samantha), but she is a really good match for you. I like her! She is a real "fireball"! She is very talented and seems to be afraid of absolutely nothing! Don't lose her, Andrew!
Andrew, I have been watching you since your 20th video. Still love ya man. Keep it going and keep on fixing
the labs are such great entertainment. thanks, Andrew
Service videos are my favorite!
I love the videos. It's good to see someone maintaining their equipment. A good wash and paint would be great. I loved the surprise and absent minded comment; "There'sa lot of leaves in here. "when he found leaves in the bottom of the chassis. His machine has been sitting under a tree in a clearing of a forest.
I love the intro to this video. Just a drone shot and straight to work. No need to tell us what the title already says. Keep up the great work Andrew and Co!
One of the reasons I love AC's videos: No useless time-wasting fillers!
Andrew ran into this video like Stone Cold Steve Austin.
It amazes me reading the comments how many critics are on here. Didn't your parents ever teach you that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all? This is some of the best content on RUclips. If you don't like it, go watch something else. Anyway Andrew, keep on going and ignore the trolls. The number of followers you have proves you are doing it right.
you need a torque multiplier for those really stuck plugs where you don't have any room to add leverage. best tool I have for working on heavy iron.
The trans leaks on this still. I need to try to figure it out.
I was wondering about a converter. You cleared up my cobwebs and Andrew answered for us.
i mean theres what 25ish new gallons in there if he missed a few in the TC i think its fine, most people would of ran the old oil until the machine dropped dead
@@AndrewCamarata Ambition Strikes channel has a good video on their channel of fault finding the trans and torque converter on their Cat D8 (seal failure on torque converter). Maybe similar to your Cat
I have been subscribing to Andrew for some time and must admit that Samantha adds another great dimension to his videos .
Plot twist, check out last video and comments
lolz
Kenneth Hume, " _I have been subscribing to Andrew for some time..._ ". Shame that you don't watch his videos before commenting, then!
@@nickturner2813 , what makes you say that I don’t watch his videos ?
@@dave_in_florida , explain ?
Hard Bolt to Shift - we always put "Never Zeese" on some of our Bolts it helps for next Time ! Wow a small Fire ! Dozer needed its Grease and Oil Maintenance - Job well done ! Testing the Dozer and she worked Brilliant ! Great Video we really enjoyed and many Cheers from us in Australia !!!!
I'm really looking forward to when Camarata starts crushing the mountain!
I'm been working with that myself in Sweden.
This is the best on RUclips!
Good kid. Seems to be in touch with what he’s doing. Crawling around on and under oily, rusty machine builds character.
Camarata's service station...Service with a smile! Great video as always Andrew!🙂
Золотые руки! Мастер! From Russia with respect and good luck!
You are really building up quite the infrastructure on that mountain. Ever since Jesse Muller mentioned a collaboration with you, I have been picturing a giant ICF castle up there. Whatever it is you have planned, it's going to be epic.
One of your last vidieo's we get to see Samantha, really liked her in your video's. She was quite your match.... Nice video.
Thay old dozer seems to be running real good. Can't wait to see the new gravel pit.
Thank you Andrew! Can't wait to see the video of the crusher 😁
i LOVE watching you take care and take service of your equipments, keep up the good work:)
If you ever want to run that thing in the cold without freezing, you can reverse the fan blades so they pull instead of push. We did that on our d8 building logging road in Pacific Northwest. Made winter days way more comfortable.
We did the same with an old cable, hand clutch D8. We also had a canvas tarp running along side of the engine to throw heat back onto the operator.
Unless you reverse the direction the blade rotates, merely turning them around only means they are less efficient.
@@jimmyashley8002 It worked just fine for us on all our Cats, cheers.
@@jimmyashley8002 You don't take the fan off and bolt it on the other way, you change the pitch of the blades so they throw air the opposite direction.
Brilliant as always and just enough talking in Andrew style to keep us all aware of what’s going on!
AC & crew is 1 money making Hard WORKING Fella 😁👍...... Very Inspiring...... Nice Work Andrew......... (ole Levi ) & pups 👍😁😊
When your king of the hill, things go your way. Great video Andrew, I was glued to the screen through the entire video.
My almost 7yr old son is your biggest fan!! He has a big obession for all things construction/heavy equipment and watches you almost daily. 😊😊 Just ordered tshirt/sweatshirt/stickers/magnets today for Christmas🎄!!
Cool, glad to hear that.
I am exhausted just by looking at these people struggle. Respect!
LOL Andrew, I like the alien artifact you unearthed at the 27 min mark! Love the vids man, Thank YOU.
You are the first person I ever seen checking the oil with the engine running, I always check it after it runs a while.
It's nice to see your latest videos with your little brother helping out with the repairs that's a great trade to pass on in the family good for you Andrew!!

So many filters and oil changes on a single piece of equipment.
Great work and video both.
Thanks for sharing.
Andrew is on a steady march to two million subscribers. Just a matter of time!
Cheers.
Those plugs don't have to be torqued some guys don't know what they are doing
You're videos are excellent, even better now with Sam !!
good job Andrew..... Don't really know what the finished project is to be, but for now, Your
yellow Iron is getting after it. both mechanic and operator, How's that Bell truck working
out for you.
It's good to know, Cat anymore now, really doesn't own the corner on heavy equipment.
Years ago, case was a viable option for small projects, although they have stepped it up some. The Bless you and yours, Jesus is LORD.

I’ve been watching a ton of oil drip heater videos lately. Planning on building one soon to heat a large shop. With as much oil as you acquire maintaining your equipment it could be beneficial and would be cool if you made a video making one!
True, but if you own a mountain, chances are that he has enough wood to heat a whole village...
