I changed a set of tracks 52 years ago on a D8 we had no equipment as you have and there was no Bla Bla Bla either......................which made the job easier.
I love heavy machinery! When I was little dad used to bring me to a railroad crossing and I watched passing freight trains for hours and never got tired. I also loved watching tractors and heavy trucks leaving tacks in mud. I still do!
My father was a sewer/waterline contractor. We moved to a 100 acre "weekend farm" in '82 when I was 12. I grew up around Cat, Komatsu & Case excavators, dozers, backhoes & payloaders. Life was like living in a giant Tonka Toy world. Back then there was nothing better than being awakened at 5:30 in the morning by the distant sound of Gus unloading a Cat 225/235 off the lowboy down on Masters road. On those days I'd get home from school, throw my books where ever, put on my "dirty clothes" and go find whoever was doing whatever work on the property. All the operators knew when they saw me standing a safe distance away, staring in their direction, that they needed to throttle down and let me climb up on the tracks and get myself situated standing next to them in the doorway before they could get back to work. I loved that better than any amusement park ride that existed.
I'm glade for you, I pray all goes well, I'm a retired HDR/W. 75, I serviced the first Cat Demo D10 that came to Southern CA, Later it was actioned off, McCoys, bought it, I moved over to that company for years, and again I was watch dog over that cat and the like, and one day I asked what came of it, The super told me it was cut up for scrap. I was shocked. After that the early first production of the D11..with rippers, ... came out of a coal mine. used it up above Canyon Lake. lots of blue granite up there, Denny McCoy got ticked off watching an operator battle the rock with a D9L, kicks the operator off, jumps in the seat and commences tear up the rock, but all he accomplished was to actually tear off the ripper assembly. and that is how we came by the D-11. I assembled it, only to discover the engine had a rod of two rapped around the crank. got it fix, That was something 40 years ago. It was all new to us back then, we had to learn as we went. Today I know nothing. They call the Yellow Iron we used back in the day,to put the beans on our table antics. The Lord Be With You.

Interesting process to watch - thanks for bringing us along! Of course, it's made even better when we get Casey and the ZackLift as a bonus (and we have to have the banter). Thought about you when I saw some heavy equipment being moved outside Ely a few weeks ago while I was down to Vegas on vacation.
HI Quinton, being somewhat dyslexic I glanced at the title and saw IDOT and being right brained I added an extra I making it and idiot dozer! Love your channel! Please forgive dyslexic people!
Can’t thank you enough for taking the time to record how you changed out these tracks. For years I have wondered how it’s done. That is big very heavy equipment your working with, one can get hurt in a heart beat. I’ve noticed the care you take for safety👍, thank you. Not counting cost for changing out that whole track assembly that you took off of another machine and put on this one, what did the tracks cost and what did the labor cost come to? Great video, well edited, very informative and educational video. We’re watching from Missouri.
I swear i saw something about breaking both tracks at the same time in a training video... All well. When ya work with heavy equipment, you gotta Shake Hands With Danger sometimes.
Wow, I’m genuinely impressed by the durability of that old excavator! It's incredible to see how it keeps going strong despite its age. It’s a true testament to how well-built machines can stand the test of time when taken care of properly
I'm a new subscriber & enjoyed this video. How little it takes to disassemble something like this is surprising. It seems the rub is that everything is so heavy. I can't figure how you install that heavy subframe onto that big pivot point without hammering up the fragile seal on the inside of the frame. Time to watch some of your previous videos. Great channel - keep the episodes coming!!
(16:07-29:26): On day two, they reassemble the new track frame after securing seals and a new retaining ring. The team faces minor challenges but successfully attaches the frame, fills it with oil, and aligns the new tracks beneath the machine.
I'm a cat dealer tech. I spend every day working on machines. My lady says I'm a weirdo to watch someone else do what I do. Gotta say heavy equipment is an addiction 😂
Nothing better than the sound of a Cat engine... Those new tracks look really good. They should have some serious bite and last a long time. It's too bad you had to replace the track frame too.
"Nothing better than the wound of a Cat engine"... Especially the older Cats! I'm not a mechanical person but grew up around a lot of big Cats and they sound different to me now than when I was around them as a kid through the 80's.
Thanks for the solid video and also thanks for the subscribe reminder. I know everyone clowns on the "like and subscribe" but youd be surprised how easy it is to forget to do those things so its always a good idea to throw that in lol

When are you going to source a Lincoln pneumatic grease pump that sits on a 33 gallon barrel of grease. Take a strong pallet and mount it with a small gasoline powered air compressor so you can move it around easily ?
Greetings from Ohio. I was about to ask if anyone knew where this work is being done ..... then you mentioned Elko ... I would assume it's Elko in Nevada. Long time since I was out in your part of the country.
One issue thought you guys where gonna put new idler wheels on it but you didnt it would be easier with the track off than having to take them apart again 😊
Those growsers on those track pads are gone. I have never used itr undercarriage parts, how to they compare to OEM caterpillar undercarriage parts? I need to replace the undercarriage on my D6 very soon.
Welding up bogies is the absolute worst way to hold bogies up, i saw a bogie fall down on a guys arm using that method when the weld did not hold onto the cast bogie pin cap, if you get 2 pieces of 4 x 2 hardwood and wedge them down the back of the idler from the top and hammer them in with a 14lb hammer to make them tight then get a 6ft length of 3/8 chain with a single dog and loop it over and around rollers 4 & 5 and dog it off. Then when you lift the machine up the chain holds the middle bogies up and the timber jammed in the idler the end bogies, when you put the frames back on and lower the machine down takes 2 minutes to remove the timber and chain. No mucking around with welders and cutting shit off.
Dude in the overalls had a very unfunny head trauma scar, wtf happened there?! Working on these things is super interesting, the scale of the parts is mind blowing! Only thing more serious is marine engineering.
That's scars scary as F! Whatever happened the man's obviously lucky to be alive, even more so not to be a drooling vegetable. Am guessing he's quite proud of it or he'd wear a hat to cover it up
