I have worked for Wholesale Sign Companies that make signs for only Retail Sign Shops. I was SHOCKED at the number of small retail sign shops that did not know or understand how to price their own signs. I was even more shocked that many of these small shops did not understand how the signs that they were selling are even built. So it is not surprising that some of these sign shops under price their products. They remind me of these Etsy shops that under price their products. RDI is providing a great service to people on how to make and price vinyl signs. Keep up the good work !
I think this is a great video because I do think it is important to know what other businesses are charging as well. This all plays apart in how you do your business.
I have been doing this since 2011 and apparently I have been way underpricing, lol. I have only been charging $1 per inch longest side up to 24 inches. So ie: 24 inches x 24 inches. 24 bucks. 13x 10 13 bucks. For single black and white and 2 bucks per inch longest side for any other colors except gold and silver which is 3.50 per inch same dementions. Then if it is over 24 inches x 24 inches, is going to be double. So by thier price or yours I apparently am to cheap. And I don't charge an installation. Thank you for posting all your videos. It actually helps all of us. For one it helps us all not to under bid jobs so everyone can get more consistent and everyone can get business that way.
Exactly this is the purpose of this video thank you because some thought we were spying or undermining this peoples job but to actually stay competitive so we all make money 😃👏
@@RDIdecals I am thankful you posted all the videos. No matter how long you do this job you always learn something new. Plus cost of materials has went up so much new prices are needed. Thank you so very much. And all the hard work you put into helping all of us with our small businesses. Not many people help others they usually want to charge for thier knowledge. You have no idea how greatful some of us are.
I'd appreciate it if you could price your services based on cost. You can learn about margins. Too many people need to understand the value of their work and the cost associated with it. What about design charges? How is it going to get on the page/computer? Great work sheet. Keep plugging.
This is great. No post I know has done this kind of field work regarding pricing work. Depending on the location of operation (state) cost varies. In my state everything thing is high costing so something you show here will be around $190-$220 net total which includes materials and labor. Great video!
Great video. Your 250 though included your artwork vs the others where getting handed finished artwork. This is an area I'm trying to understand, what to charge (quote) for custom artwork.
We do free estimates and no set up fee on projects over 400 but this company has work with us before the 250 was just for decal and installation but it will be interesting to do another video without art work
Also, if you only have 3 employees you'll need a higher shop rate to cover overhead and equipment. A 10 employee shop can generate more dollars per day which makes the cost per square foot and capitol investments smaller per employee.
Pricing is a perennial problem for all businesses. I started working for a sign shop back in the late nineties. That guy tried charging based on his costs. He would charge double his materials cost, as a rule of thumb. At the time, it seemed to be a competitive rate. I'm not sure how well that would work today. It seems like it might not be enough.
I don't charge by the hour on design because I'm slow at it. I just charge whatever feels right for the entire project start to finish. One day when im better and faster I'll use a calculator to figure pricing.
So true even today we deduct the time we use filming we never charge our customers more than it should take and to be honest I think we still to slow for been 3 guys but we are fair with our customers it’s not their fault we slow or we spend time filming not their loss but ours great point 😀
TO BE HONEST, from what I'm seeing, yes the pricing for these services are everywhere, but the highest pricing that I'VE seen has come from RDI on RUclips. Not even hating here about it, but maybe it's time we set this to the new standard. These businesses are probably just trying to compete with everyone else's low prices which isn't surprising.
My problem is being here in the UK is the weather the cost of renting an industrial unit and all the bill that come with it would kill me so what i do in the wet and cold time is do what they call is wall art it keeps the wolfs away from the door
Yhea even for us winter is kind of slow the weather makes it hard to work with decals as we have no garage but we get by with hoodies and shirts mainly
Nice undercover work! I'm a start-up in central California i would charge 170 just for the vinyl. Install another 25-30 bucks. Nice things cost money and people have money. If you think pennies you get pennies, if you think dollars you get dollars. If you lose customers and sometimes you will , thats just the way things go sometimes. Period. RATA!
Equipment, designers, software, rent, employees. etc local business has more expenses than individuals, but that don't mean be cheap take de advantages of both and make a good deal
Yhea we thought of that only problem is we wanted a estimate right away because if we didn’t bring any art work or size they would just say send me the art work to my email and will send you an estimate who knows how long that would take 😁
Posting your hourly rate is meaningless. You might charge $75/yr and take 2-hrs for a project whereas I might charge $150/hr and only take 1-hr. Sad thing is, people are drawn to those low published prices without getting quotes for the whole job.
Well I think right now we all are in that time of the year that are the slowest but we always keep up advertising on social media we also sell online like eBay and Etsy you can also try paid advertising even tho we never have paid but we just keep up on social media which is free good luck and wish you the best

You’re right! Being cheap is not the best strategy as that will only get you cheap customers. Thanks for watching!
Do channel letters, lightboxes, and other big signs next please
I have a vinyl business and I charge $20 a door of that size and I charge $30 for my magnets a piece they are 24x12 with the decal
Wow What state are you from? Thank you for sharing 🙏
Im in Georgia
Your giving work away for nothing
I am curious as to what they would charge if you did not have artwork. Have them do it from start to finish. Creating logo etc.
Yhea we thought of that only problem is we wanted a estimate right away because if we didn’t bring any art work or size they would just say send me the art work to my email and will send you an estimate who knows how long that would take 😁
What are you using for your calculations for each project? Is that an excel spreadsheet or?
It’s a calculator made with html it works similar tho
@@RDIdecals where could I get that?

can u show how to do the qr code on the tshirt
Yhea we will keep that in mind
Help me start a vinyl business. I have all the machines and been doing it a while on the side. But can't get any work. Please help

How much do you guys charge a hour ?
Since is 3 of us and we can do our job faster here in indiana we charge 120/ hr for vinyl signs and decal projects
@@RDIdecals thanks. I was just wondering if I was underbidding myself
I charge more for magnets also.
Do you make them with vinyl or are they made with a printer?
That’s super cheap, I pay in New York $1300 per truck. With coloring though but not any crazy design. It’s pretty simple
Yhea I heard chicago and California is more expensive because expenses are higher too so I guess NY is no different
Did you say you charge $250 for a pair of car door decals???
Yes with installation and we drove 15 miles to the customer
They’re charging me 7k to get both doors on my truck and back 😐😐😐
Wow! That is high 😮 I think the most we have charged for a project has been close to 2k and we almost covered the whole van. Thanks for watching!
Jesus, is it bulletproof vinyl material or something military grade
Greetings from Germany 👋
😊
