I came across this channel searching for Charger videos. I'm not mechanical at all-I just love the '68-'69 Chargers. This guy's videos are over an hour sometimes and I love them! I wish I lived next door to him just so I could learn and help him and get a ride every once in a while. Chris seems like such a cool guy. And he's such a good mechanic! @TRUMP 2020 Bernie? i think you missed my point. all i was saying is that sometimes people buy something with big plans to restore or upgrade , but life doesn't always cooperate. the, may get sick or die or loose a job, and while i hate to see a car rot, it doesn't mean the person didn't deserve to have the car as Mr Mofo was saying. it just means they never got to finish the plan. im all for allowing people to do whatever they want with their own property. i damn sure do what i want with mine.
I think the point with the OP here is that if you got plans to restore it but are not doing anything for years at the very least properly store the car. It's very problematic when someone finally does get it and there is far more issues with it. Even if the car was garaged and completely out of the elements that's still better than leaving it out in the weeds where it continues to rot. Yeah the guy owns it and can do whatever he wants but in my opinion that's selfish when you are not doing anything with the car. It's a pet peeve of mine when people say theyll restore it, it's worse when someone wants to buy the car, keeps pestering the owner because they are not actually doing anything with it and the car just sits there and rots away leaving more work for whoever does restore it. If the guy at least had Fluid Film or Krown put on the undercarriage, washed and waxed the rest of the vehicle and put it in a clean shed away from the elements the car would have at least been in better shape than it is in this video. Because otherwise some people may look at the car and it wouldn't be worth trying to get the car road worthy and then it gets junked for parts. Seen this too often. It's not good. Got to protect the car from the elements.

Reminds me of when I found my Charger in an old shed. Fortunately, the floors, trunk floor, frame rails and sheet metal were all in good shape. Central Cal car, so no salt on the roads. You saw it in Clovis at a San Joaquin Valley Mopars meeting a couple of years ago.
Probably rust on the cyl walls. You need to squirt Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders several times and keep trying or you can just tear the engine apart and do it right. Nice find. Good luck with all that rust.
Yeah, I grew up in the 60's and 70's and I'm amazed at the going prices for rusty old plain jane cars from that era. Back in my high school days of the 70's the '57 Chevy's were all the rage. A teenage buddy of mine bought a 1969 Dodge Super Bee for $500, but it needed a new motor. I helped him put a replacement 440 under the hood. Man that thing had a monster carburetor, I think it was a Holly 1150 if I remember correctly. lol

It was my daily driver and night time money maker. Decided to drive cross country. Gas just went to $.32 a gallon and at 8 MPG I wasn't going far. Sold to a buddy who was going to pull the Hemi and put a 383 in it for his wife. Anyway went and bought a Datsun 510 made it from Boston and up Pikes Peak. down to Texas then home. Cost of this trip was around $70.00. That is seventy dollars. TODAY can't say how many times I've kicked myself. There were only 500 Chargers make in the configuration I had with a price of $5002. Great channel and keep em' alive.

About 15 years ago there was a 69 Charger on eBay nearby, I only had about $3k at the time to bid with, it ended up going for about $5k I think. For me that will always be the one that got away.
Damn. I’m only 14 but I’m restoring our families truck 1969 Chevy C10, I’ve swapped in a small block 400 and a Muncie M-22, if you remember those chargers you remember the M-22s. My grandpa said that they are some of the best manual transmissions ever made
The clock sounds like it has the same guts as the Mercedes of the same era. if they won't rewind ,there is a little blob of low temp solder which is designed to melt as a fuse link. Fixing them is as simple as giving the two contacts a touch with the soldering iron to rejoin them.
There were two reasons we got rid of the cars back then. Gas and insurance. I had a 69 Coronet R/T I bought new and I sold in 1973 for those very reasons. I was 19 when I bought it. The Arab embargo and the horsepower to weight ratio from the insurance companies were killing us. I'm 69 and just finished a 70 Challenger R/T 6 pack ,4 speed, 354 Dana car all numbers matching. So some of us old guys are still out here helping the younger guys stay interested. Glad guys like Chris are around to carry on what some of us have been doing since the early 80's.
Thirty years ago I almost bought a rusty green '69 with a 318 for $500. It sat in front of this guy's house for sale for what seemed forever. We struck a deal that I would pay him about $50 or so a week to meet his full asking price (I was a high school kid). I went there a week later to make the first payment and the guy had sold it out from under me. In '93 I looked at a black '69 383 car in decent shape, I think he was asking $2800 or so. I passed because he had a bottle of Bar's Leak under the hood and I figured maybe the radiator was bad. If only I could go back in time.
Had a 70 Roadrunner thx to my dad buying it in 1972 because it still had 30,000 miles of bumper to bumper warranty left that was covered to 50,000 miles ... vs a brand new anything, cuz warranty dropped to ONLY 20,000 miles in 1971..( check it out) could not believe my eyes when my dad got me to come along to pick up this surprise purchase when i was 18 !!!!! The young man he bought it from for $2450 Canadian had repainted it from plum crazy purple, to a gorgeous deep red burgandy , put a black vinyl roof on it and it had white interior!!! INFREEKINCREDIBLE!!! Nice American mags and fat Dunlops.... 383 Magnum automatic. My mom drove it regularily too, and often hurried thru town unintentionally sqealing the tires with the back end danglin' out lol, & eventually bought it for me to cover many hours i worked for her not expecting any pay. She had 3 businesses. Just wanted to say i envy this young man and wish him every possible success and happiness in life. That R/T Charger ....you have the most beautiful iconic muscle car ever conceived 68, 69 & 70....& it fully deserves to find the person that will restore it to its original GLORY!!! I'm 62 years old. As a junior in high school in 1975 I bought a 69 Charger 383 magnum, auto on the floor, center console, bucket seats. White with a green vinyl top. It had around 54,000 miles when I bought it. I paid $1,200 for it. I owned it for 2 years and sold it for $1,000. It was a solid car in great shape when I sold it. If only............

Original owner most likely sold it because of the oil embargo causing the gas prices to skyrocket. Many people back then did including my pops. He had a 68 Coronet R/T with a 440 6-pack and dumped it for a MG Midget. This is also one of the main reasons it's hard to find big block cars with the original engines. Folks would pull them and drop in a smaller motor to get better fuel mileage.
My daughters friends Dad has a early 70"s model mustang fastback with that Cleveland Engine...all original and it runs...........when I went to her house to pick her up after a sleep over, It was in the winter and there was about six inches of snow on the ground............as I left I look in the field where the grass is two feet tall and there in the weeds is that Mustang Fastback...Mach 1 or something.......I went back to the house to ask him about it and he said he bought it ten years ago and it still drives and he plans on restoring it............that was about seven years ago and that car still sets in that field rotting away.
Their is a guy in town has what I think is a 68 Camaro under a tarp. people have been trying for years to buy it but the guy and his wife say its their sons car and their waiting for him to come home from the war. From all the checking around their son died over seas in one of the Korean war. He got the car and a week after he got it he went to war. The car has been sitting in the same place for all these years. if the tarp gets tore up he gets a new one and keep replacing it.
I had a 1970 plain jane 318/auto Charger, vin# ended in 0003 meaning the care was #3 off the line. Bad breaks and other issues aside from the fact I was moving across the country, sold the car to a junk yard for $75.00...LOL (I have to laugh at myself otherwise I'd be crying again)...

I passed my opportunity to buy me a decent well like new condition a 68 Charger 318 auto, really solid car for only $5000.00 back in 1999. But that was my money for the down payment for my 1st home. So I bought the house.
The first owner more then likely sold the car when the gas crunch hit in late 1972- 1973, plus insurance companies we're jacking up the rates on high horse power cars, which made it impractical to hang on to at the time.
I bought a 69 Charger RT 4 speed car, rolling body with bucket seats, a trunk lid & a hood (that was all the parts it had) for $100. w/a title in 2008. Worth restoring! I didn't have anything to put it back together at the time so I listed it on ebay starting at $1. People wrote me they would pay $50.-$100 for it. It sold for $1500. Thought I did well but time will tell!

How much would you think a 68 Coronet R/T with matching # 440 4Spd Dana 60 car would go for restored? I located one for $12,000. I wasn't sure if it was worth restoring.
It must have been the thing to do in 1980. Buy a '60's muscle car, put it in a barn somewhere, and then forget that you ever owned it. So that nearly every week 40 years later, someone would walk into a barn and find a forgotten muscle car. These things are all over the place now, just walk in any barn!
I grew up in the 1980s, next to what passes for music these days, Jed was listening to some good stuff. I hated Ms Lauper and Madonna, and all the other pop bands of the '80s, I was into Dio and bands like that. The Arab embargo and the horsepower to weight ratio from the insurance companies were killing us. I'm 69 and just finished a 70 Challenger R/T 6 pack ,4 speed, 354 Dana car all numbers matching. So some of us old guys are still out here helping the younger guys stay interested. Glad guys like Chris are around to carry on what some of us have been doing since the early 80's.

Thirty years ago I almost bought a rusty green '69 with a 318 for $500. It sat in front of this guy's house for sale for what seemed forever. We struck a deal that I would pay him about $50 or so a week to meet his full asking price (I was a high school kid). I went there a week later to make the first payment and the guy had sold it out from under me. In '93 I looked at a black '69 383 car in decent shape, I think he was asking $2800 or so. I passed because he had a bottle of Bar's Leak under the hood and I figured maybe the radiator was bad. If only I could go back in time.

Had a 70 Roadrunner thx to my dad buying it in 1972 because it still had 30,000 miles of bumper to bumper warranty left that was covered to 50,000 miles ... vs a brand new anything, cuz warranty dropped to ONLY 20,000 miles in 1971..( check it out) could not believe my eyes when my dad got me to come along to pick up this surprise purchase when i was 18 !!!!! The young man he bought it from for $2450 Canadian had repainted it from plum crazy purple, to a gorgeous deep red burgandy , put a black vinyl roof on it and it had white interior!!! INFREEKINCREDIBLE!!! Nice American mags and fat Dunlops.... 383 Magnum automatic. My mom drove it regularily too, and often hurried thru town unintentionally sqealing the tires with the back end danglin' out lol, & eventually bought it for me to cover many hours i worked for her not expecting any pay. She had 3 businesses. Just wanted to say i envy this young man and wish him every possible success and happiness in life. That R/T Charger ....you have the most beautiful iconic muscle car ever conceived 68, 69 & 70....& it fully deserves to find the person that will restore it to its original GLORY!!! CAN YOU IMAGINE...!!!!!!! What a Humfreekindinger that baby would be, shining in the sun ...cooling down in the shade ..."black cars look better in the shade" / Gino Vinelli. I can't believe it - $22,000 was paid for this car when I purchased a number matching 440 Charger R/T SE with no rust and only 58,000 miles for $20,000...
It's a loss of words for what was paid for the car in this video with holes in the floor boards, broken glass and a rotted interior.

Wow must say i dont miss the Indiana rust! Having been raised in Muncie I've seen some horrifying rust on old muscle. Moved 2 states away to Tennessee and everything is rock solid for the most part.

And I'm talkin about rare Mopars. Pity. But here we are today, and with everything the way that it is, it is so cool to see you guys finding buying and wrenching my favorite old Mopars. I have owned a lot of them in every single engine combination you can think of from the factory. And yes I'm one of those guys like I have posted before... Mine is setting in a barn, but it is in out of the weather 100%. Yeah maybe next year I'm hoping. It's been decades. I'm 62 years old. As a junior in high school in 1975 I bought a 69 Charger 383 magnum, auto on the floor, center console, bucket seats. White with a green vinyl top. It had around 54,000 miles when I bought it. I paid $1,200 for it. I owned it for 2 years and sold it for $1,000. It was a solid car in great shape when I sold it. If only............

Original owner most likely sold it because of the oil embargo causing the gas prices to skyrocket. Many people back then did including my pops. He had a 68 Coronet R/T with a 440 6-pack and dumped it for a MG Midget. This is also one of the main reasons it's hard to find big block cars with the original engines. Folks would pull them and drop in a smaller motor to get better fuel mileage.

My daughters friends Dad has a early 70"s model mustang fastback with that Cleveland Engine...all original and it runs...........when I went to her house to pick her up after a sleep over, It was in the winter and there was about six inches of snow on the ground............as I left I look in the field where the grass is two feet tall and there in the weeds is that Mustang Fastback...Mach 1 or something.......I went back to the house to ask him about it and he said he bought it ten years ago and it still drives and he plans on restoring it............that was about seven years ago and that car still sets in that field rotting away.

Their is a guy in town has what I think is a 68 Camaro under a tarp. people have been trying for years to buy it but the guy and his wife say its their sons car and their waiting for him to come home from the war. From all the checking around their son died over seas in one of the Korean war. He got the car and a week after he got it he went to war. The car has been sitting in the same place for all these years. if the tarp gets tore up he gets a new one and keep replacing it.

I had a 1970 plain jane 318/auto Charger, vin# ended in 0003 meaning the care was #3 off the line.
Bad breaks and other issues aside from the fact I was moving across the country, sold the car to a junk yard for $75.00...LOL

Looks like Mamba didn't shake too bad! Windows and hub caps still intact. Bet Mamba got great mileage! Them drag reducing panels are worth their weight in gold. The dipstick is stopping the crank from spinning. Rebuild the dipstick. Them damn plug wires will give ya brain damage! Not from the amperage of the coil, the hood latch in the base of the skull's what does it! Ya might have forgot to remove the offending music re-upping. Or was it not Cyndi that got ya copyrighted? I passed my opportunity to buy me a decent well like new condition a 68 Charger 318 auto, really solid car for only $5000.00 back in 1999. But that was my money for the down payment for my 1st home. So I bought the house.
The first owner more then likely sold the car when the gas crunch hit in late 1972- 1973, plus insurance companies we're jacking up the rates on high horse power cars, which made it impractical to hang on to at the time.
I bought a 69 Charger RT 4 speed car, rolling body with bucket seats, a trunk lid & a hood (that was all the parts it had) for $100. w/a title in 2008. Worth restoring! I didn't have anything to put it back together at the time so I listed it on ebay starting at $1. People wrote me they would pay $50.-$100 for it. It sold for $1500. Thought I did well but time will tell!

It must have been the thing to do in 1980. Buy a '60's muscle car, put it in a barn somewhere, and then forget that you ever owned it. So that nearly every week 40 years later, someone would walk into a barn and find a forgotten muscle car. These things are all over the place now, just walk in any barn!

I grew up in the 1980s, next to what passes for music these days, Jed was listening to some good stuff. I hated Ms Lauper and Madonna, and all the other pop bands of the '80s, I was into Dio and bands like that. Bet you and Jed felt the same way I did when that blown Charger hit that truck, flipped and crashed, in Fast & Furious. Your new ride brought that car to mind immediately.
You can sort of see X9 with the T rusted out. TX9 is the code for black. You know on the fender tag.
