    I love this video! As a certified herbalist, I just wanted to add one little helpful thing to the plantain oil infusing instructions, to help anyone who is going to try it with fresh leaves. If you are going to wash them, which really isn't necessary unless they have been sprayed with something or have a lot of dirt on them, make sure you dry them well before and also add about a Tablespoon of vodka to the leaves just prior to adding the oil and stir it around well. These steps are very important to prevent spoilage. Water in the jar with the leaves and the oil will spoil the oil much, much faster. It is really best to use dried plantain or any herb, for oil infusions. It will make everything much more shelf stable. Happy herbing friends! :)

    Christa, I was thrilled with the video today. I have searched for comfrey roots for a some time now and while I was looking at plants an Amish lady was selling, I inquired about comfrey. She didn't happen to have any but said she would check with others, she took my number and address and I figured that was the last of hearing any more about the plant. I was shocked this week when I received a package in the mail from Iowa containing 6 comfrey roots. The dear Amish lady in Ohio contacted a friend in Iowa so I could be blessed with this wonderful plant. Thank you Christa for all that you do, you are an inspiration.

    I find it fascinating that the long leaf plantain has short rounded seed heads while the round leaf plantain has the long and narrow seed heads. It's not really important in the scheme of things, just found it interesting. 😁 I guess everything is balanced in nature.
    Oh btw, a couple of days before I caught your video (24 Mar 2024) I had been out in my yard 'barefoot' collecting my flowering comfrey stalks to cut up for my compost pile (I had already made up a batch of comfrey infused oil - not double infused though - so wasn't going to need any more for awhile) anyway while doing so I was stung by a bee and I'm allergic to bees, I promptly rubbed some sap from the comfrey stalk on my toes where it stung me. The stinging immediately stopped and it never did swell and I never had any allergic reaction. 😊

    I live in Nevada. I. have seen people place their washed herbs on a cookie sheet and then put the sheet on the dash of a vehicle that is sitting in the sun. You need to check periodically. I never did any type of turning or rotating. This can be an inexpensive way to dry foods while experimenting.
    It works very well, you don’t have to heat up your oven or use any electricity. The sun does all the work.
    The only disadvantage to this method is the residual smell left by the drying herb. That too will dissipate over time.

    Thank you for sharing. I have been tincturing and making massage oils for years, and me delving into making salve. I was surprised you did not dry your freshly washed leaves before mixing with EVO as thus far all videos I have watched (Old Alabama Gardner is very good) emphasizes using dry material. Water and oil do not mix. I rarely wash as the leaves I pick on my property are clean. Now that I have a dehydrator I dry fresh picked plant material up to 105 degrees. Previously I have always hung my plant gatherings in my kitchen. I am adding Silversol colloidal silver into my salve as a preservative vs. vodka. It is anti bacterial and anti microbial, for added benefit it helps heal wounds. An experiment, I plan to add a few drops to each jar of salve and stir.

    Why are you leaving the leaves wet? That can breed mold.

    Severely burnt a few of my fingertips sides of my fingers on cast iron through a tea towel i should of been more careful . Straight away I run to the dmso solution 75% sprayed all over then grabbed the fresh cut comfrey leaf from my windowsill that was for drying and aloe vera and busted them all over my hands like a soap I scrubbed the hands like I was washing them so intense. Wrapped the major damaged tips with bandage and more comfrey and aloe. 3 hours later I removed the dressing. Albeit sore with little sensation and a bit melted it feels tight but it had so much relief after the natural solution. My skin regenerated quick. No large blisters at all. By 12am it was numb but definitely safe to be able to work the next day as a massage therapist !!

    Basil is my favorite for bee stings. I make sure and grow some every year just for stings. Just one fresh leaf, crumpled up and juiced onto the sting takes it right away. A little poultice for yellow jackets and bald faced hornets.

    That is awesome. I need to make some of this. I have lots of plantain. I'm not sure about comfrey. Right now, I have dandelion infusion going on to make a dandelion. Salve. My first salve to make. I have been foraging dandelion, purple nettle, and sweet violets. I know last year I got stung by 3 hornets and the first thing I went for was plantain.

    Do you think you could use castor oil instead of olive oil? It has healing properties as well

    • @intothewildusa90
      @intothewildusa90 Год назад +10

      Castor oil will work. It will be a much heavier salve. Castor oil has a plethora of its own benefits.

      I am using both - first infusion is olive oil and the second will be castor oil. Go for it!!

      @Jenny - you can add a small percentage - say 2% - to your mix in order to incorporate Castor’s healing benefits…or whatever proportions you deem appropriate (research)

    I think you need to dry the leaves before putting in a jar and adding olive oil.
