So quick note.. I know it is the first time of you using the kettle, but I would like to offer a bit of help. I only watched half the video thus far but I would like to take a moment with the two pieces of metal that make a stand. Once they are slid together put them in the top of the kettle. It is designed to fit into the top of the stack. This way you are able to boil water and cook at the same time. I personally don't have one but today is possible the day I order one. Thank you and God bless.

When starting your fire and it gets split face the hole the way the wind is coming to it it was designed for windy weather in Ireland it's a very good stove some people just don't like it which is okay if you think about it you getting water boiling and a fire going at the same time a lot of hobo stoves won't do that it's just a preference I like it and it's all compact saves a lot of money I'm buying other stuff what they already have in the Kelly kettle do the math it's a lot cheaper to buy the Kelly kettle the ones who are negative about it are trying to sell something different this was an ingenious thing made it'll be in my backpack every time and small kindling about the size of a q-tip is what makes it work quick and fast that was the point that they were shooting for where this was invented because it was cold and windy when it breaks down if someone had to rely on something like that in the situation the Kelly kettle would come through all the time 100% and little limbs about the size of q-tip are always dry on the trees and they burn fast common sense love your video keep up the great work

Thanks for posting this. Never saw a kelly kettle before. Having been caught in blizzards in the Colorado Rockies before, when driving for work, I keep a rocket stove and a single burner backpack stove with basic utensils, pots, cups, and a couple days worth of food in my truck. I'm thinking one of their Scout kettle sets would make a great replacement for that setup as instead of having all these separate bags, I could have it packed into one sack. Would still have the backpack stove as it's possible to get caught in a blizzard on the plains where there's no wood source. Plus, the chimney up the center would allow it to heat up faster. One time I took a back road as the main highway was getting clogged. 5 minutes after I got off the highway, traffic came to a stop because of accidents. Some people were stuck for 30 hours and the national guard had to come out and bring food and water to the stranded motorists. This is why I travel prepared (also carry snowshoes, a sleeping bag, and some other supplies)

I have a small ziplock with a piece of fatwood, some folded up tinfoil, and a lighter. I used to carry a small bag with a few homemade fire starters made from soaking dryer lint with paraffin wax in cardboard egg trays (each 1-egg section will burn like an emergency candle for 20-30 minutes). I have a small first aid kit, a water filter, an emergency blanket, and spare rain gear in my truck. I don't live where it gets cold any more, so no worries there. When I used to live in the desert, I always had water in my vehicle.
It is always good to be prepared, and it is way more fun to be the guy who shares some help than the guy who hopes for some.

My grandmother's maiden name was Kelley. I love the outdoors, especially the woods and mountains, and food just tastes better when it's cooked over an open fire. But you put the icing on the cake when you ended with a scripture. That touched me spiritually. May God richly bless you.

Hey there, I’ve seen a few others comment but wanted to clarify also.
Firstly, leave the “whistle” bung in until you’ve lifted the kettle from the base pan. When lifting hold the bail handle at 90 degrees to the top with both hands. That way you avoid burning your hands or the kettle tipping. Many other vids on YT showing this being done.
Second, the metal supports can be used on top of the stove to allow for heating other things whilst boiling water. I’m guessing you have the newer version so those supports can also be used as legs under the base pan to avoid scorching the ground, useful in dry areas.
And a minor last point, the grill is intended to go directly on the base pan. Let the fire burn down to coals and then place it on there.
Really hope you enjoy using the Kelly kettle, I know I have.

    • @mchrysogelos7623

They had kettles made out of copper/bass with chimneys that went up the center theirs were open pans to make soup or sauce, so they could dip their bread in the soup in a group. If I could draw you a picture,it would be easier to explain. The Kelly Kettle is new and improvement on a very old idea.

Fine Review! All the Functions become much easier with practice, of course! I've bought several of these over the years, so I could share'em with folks. Especially in anticipation of interruptions to power & distribution systems...
One Particular advantage of the system is that this design also protects and conceals the flame thru most of its operation.
Even the smallest version does the job, and as you pointed out, the KIT allows you to pack and carry a surprising amount of fuel and gear. I particularly recommend becoming proficient with a _*ferrocerium spark-generating rod*-that you can use with any number of square-edged steel items to employ as a "striker."
You show much wisdom in carrying a supply of FATWOOD sticks. Those are especially valuable as fire STARTERS, and I recommend that folk SAVE them for that purpose rather than relying on them for fuel if you can gather dry twigs and small branches. EVEN LEAVES AND DRY GRASS can fuel your cooking.
That ability to use the humblest fuel can be a life saver.

I came to your channel by chance as I was thinking a lot about Kelly Kettles recently. I was a bit tired and just needed a few minutes to sit and watch something for myself for a few minutes before prepping and making a Saturday night family meal. As I watched the opening credits I thought to myself "Thank God. Somebody with similar values and felt like a huge weight had been lifted from within. I put this down to feeling a bit tired. I really enjoyed the video. And then the Scripture reading at the end. I wasn't expecting that but the words hit me so hard. I almost burst into tears. Needless to say I am now subscribed! I think "Someone" is trying to tell me to watch your channel. Thank you.

I've had the Scout for many years (SS mod.) and love it. About 2 years ago I ordered some Acc. for it, they goofed up & sent me the complete Trekker kit, ( also SS mod.) I was a little disappointed when I opened the box, as the German Shepherd & I were going camping that weekend, but quickly realized how handy the Trekker would be, & how disappointed the poor guy (or gal) was going to be that got my Acc. I quickly called them to correct the situation, it took a bit of explaining, but finally got it remedied, I payed them for the Trekker and soon got my Acc., & the person that ordered the Trekker got theirs too. Sometimes they are both going at the same time, love them both. Keep up the awesome videos, God bless you!

Recommend putting kettle part on and lighting wick through bottom hole. Much easier than lighting fire and then putting kettle on.

While living in Oxfordshire, UK, (1979) I enjoyed a day out at a 'Fete. We would name it: Country Fair. I purchased a large Kelly stove. It was no where near as versatile as yours. Nonetheless being a Camper of brilliant ideals, I adapted to what ever the occasion called it became an ideal purchase. When I returned to (America) California, I gifted my stove to my son's Godfather. Whom I busted face-timed him if he still has it. His son does! Think when I go back and visit I'll look to upgrade this current style. Thank you for the video/demo. It was fantastically accomplished !

I have had one for years and it is my favourite cooker. Mine is the smallest model. ( the Traveller ) The two pieces of metal are used as a pot holder on top of the kettle which can be a bit of a pain if you want some hot water as you will have to temporarily take you fry pan or pot off the top of the kettle so you can pour it.if you are eating freeze dried food this is not an issue as kettle is only used for boiling. A great product.

Nice, have all 3 sizes. The larger 2 are great for boiling water/cooking when out with the Grandkids, the smaller "Trekker" is just right for the wife and I on our own out and about in the woods and hills.
