Hey guys. Craig's 19 year old son was away with friends on a river tubing trip and was drowned. Craig wrote this to help himself deal with it. He recorded it and then said he wasn't going to sing it again. A couple of his Nashville buddies told him he could help a lot of people with it. Then the audiences started asking for it at his concerts. So he started doing it again. I have seen him do it on several TV shows and also on the Grand Ole Opry. I have never seen him get through it without breaking down a little bit. In fact there is a video on RUclips of him doing it at the Opry and the entire song the guys in his band are just watching him to make sure he is okay. That's family. Craig is quite a guy. He served I think 8 years in the army as a combat medic. After he got out him and one of his kids were driving somewhere and they drove by a house fire. He ran up to see if he could help. The FD wasn't there yet and someone said there were still people in the house. He went in and carried 2 people out. (Kids I think). He has another video you should check out. Great message for the times we are going through now. It's called "This ain't nothin'. Stay safe and well. Peace.

It's true that it does help others that are going through the same thing. I lost my son to a motorcycle accident three years ago on 09/21 and though I don't wish anyone to join this club I unwillingly became a member of, it helps to know there are others who understand.

Just a minor correction. And please don't misunderstand my comments as being hostile. I admire Craig and tear up every time I see his video. Craig served with the Army's 101st and 82 Airborne. He tried out for the Rangers but was injured in the selection process and didn't make it. Regardless, I very much appreciate his service.

All 5 of my uncles and both of my grandmas served, my husband wanted to but concussions in high school sports kept him from it, he is the most patriotic non-veteran you will ever come across. Our son is considering working with a company to develop wheeled and tracked vehicles for the military or teaching high school history so he can coach sports too. If you want to know about the evolution of tanks, anything about world war 1 and 2 especially, how men like Hitler and Stalin rose to power, etc just ask our teenager. His bedroom is decorated in military flags and winter camo colors. To add another amazing quality to Craig & his wife....this son that he is referring to was a child that they adopted at a fairly young age. Gerry came home from college for the break and told his Mom that he broke his chain that he wore with the Saint Michael pendant on it and he would like to get a new chain bc he felt it's security. His Mom hadn't yet made it to the jewelry store to get a chain and now she holds some "what if" type guilt. Was so sad to see the pain in their faces as they gave that interview on one of the tv talk shows.

His first time doing the song, on the Grand Ole Opry is just as heartbreaking if not more. It is what he talks about in the interview with Kelly. Saying he did it once but couldn't again, yet he was told it needed to be heard. So he did it again, and has continued to do so. Truly I think it is a release for him and then it helps others going through very tough times.

Yes his son drowned. He woke up in the middle of night and God told him to write this song, half way through he was going to go back to bed but god told him to finish it. The first time he performed it was on the Grand Ole Opry . As he walked off the stage Ricky Skaggs was standing there and Craig said, I can perform that song again. Ricky told him he had to so he would help others. He contacted Blake Shelton and Blake started having it played everywhere even on Kelly who of course was crying. Blake showed up to surprise him. Was a beautiful sone, written by a beautiful man about a beautiful love between him and his son.

I worked for a woman looking after her horses and cows. She had a wretched old pool. My youngest son would go with me to work. He was not even three. I went to tell my employer I was done and she kept talking and talking. Found my boy floating in the pool, not breathing no heartbeat. I pulled him out, started working on him and God blessed me. He started making little sounds, I thought it was his body outgassing and he was gone but he started to breath, opened his eyes. The paramedics had a hard time finding us but after 45 minutes they arrived. Took us to the hospital. Nurses kept telling me I'd done everything right. All I could think was if I'd done every thing right we wouldn't be there. Spent the day in the NICU with my beautiful boy bouncing around, chattering and laughing. I apologized to the nurses for the ruckus, they told me it was wonderful to see a little one who was going to be OK. He's an engineer and engaged now. I thank God daily for letting me keep him.

When I was a Soldier stationed at Fort Sill, Craig Morgan with Jason Aldean and Dirks Bentley performed a concert on the 4th of July for the troops. It was a part of the Army concert tour. Me and my friend Erin had been at the lake all day and missed the concert. Afterwards, we went to our favorite little hole in the wall bar called Guys & Dolls. After an hour or so, me Erin and one other person was in the bar, when about 15 people came in. It happened to be Jason Aldean, Dirks Bentley, some of their entourage and of course Craig Morgan. I sat closest to Jason Aldean and Craig sat on the opposite end. After exchanging pleasantries, Craig Morgan heard that I was in the Army and that we had served in the same unit once upon a time. They stayed for about 2 hours and me and Erin danced to their songs while they say at the bar, it was so surreal. Craig even bought me a shot of Jack. It was when we still had flip phones....it was amazing and he was such a down to earth guy

Loss of a child transcends all pain a parent can experience. It's not natural for a parent to bury a child. The love for a child is greater than any other emotion a person can feel. I was blessed to watch my son being born and I thank God every day he is with me. My wife had to bury her only child, my step son , at the young age of 24. This song especially the second verse is her. It's been 5 years and I have watched her in a pain that nothing can ease. It doesnt matter your sex, race, age whatever, love bonds all of us together and death may take the physical body but the memories are with us forever. Love your children, hold them tight and never take them or their lives for granted. You just never know what fate has in store. God bless you and your channel.

Craig Morgan is such a great guy. When I lived in Kentucky he came into my store bought a few things. Told me how great my store was and took pictures with all of us. It was so great meeting him and finding out how down to earth he is.

I'm really glad Craig had those friends who helped him and told him to share the song. I'm also very thankful for Blake for sharing it to his followers and even telling people to get the song higher than his on the charts, it was wonderful watching him push his fans to stream the song and get it to number one, it was very beautiful to see. It's an amazing song so I am very glad so many people got to witness his performance and hear his voice and his story.

True story. I live in Nashville and it happened not far away. It was all over the news. To write this with the pain I’m sure they have been through and singing it over and over is amazing. He says he sings it to start conversation and God and Faith.

Craig Morgan was on the lineup when I went to my first show at the grand ole opry in Nashville. He decided to debut the very first live performance of this song that night. The opry was packed, and needless to say, there was no one sitting nor a dry eye in the entire building by the end of his performance. A beautiful song.
Fun fact about Craig Morgan, he was an officer in the army (mos-13A-artillery officer) and got noticed for his singing ability in a talent show while deployed. I believe some Entertainer was on the same FOB (forward operating base) as Craig for a USO trip and they happened to catch a part of Craig’s performance while on the USO tour.

He wrote this song for his son.. his son passed away in 2016 in Tennessee.. he was boating and out tubing and being a teen, when he just went missing off the tube and his body was later recovered by the sheriff department already dead.. he was only 19.. such a sad story I’m so glad Craig released this son this year I lost my brother this year in January 4 days after he turned 27 and even though he’s my brother and not my son the song means a lot to me

Yes it is a true story. Craig was a special ops soldier and felt with a lot of pain before he got into country music. He lost his son and it broke him. Depression is what kept him home. His wife being sick was a lie to cover his depression. The pain of a parent who has to bury a child. That makes this song even more beautiful

Oh my goodness, its been like 5 or 6 years now.. I remember sitting at my computer watching the reports hoping they would find him.... his life vest got snagged so after he went under he never came back up.... I cried as a mom for them... first time I heard that song was on Kelly Clarksons show.. and I bawled like a baby... My throat still gets tight hearing it.. I am a mom... I have an 19 year old, 17 year old and a 6 year old.. and I watched my mom fall apart after my brother lost his battle with Cystic fibrosis and its been 7 years and she is still barely glued together.. we parents are not suppose to outlive our babies.. so my heart can break with theirs... as a mom.. much love to any and all who have had to face that tragic loss

My nephew was killed in March in a drug dispute. His sister played this song for their dad on what would have been Zack's 27th birthday. Every word of this song describes the man my brother is. He lost his son, his best friend to heroin addiction 6yrs ago. 8 months ago, thst young man permanently lost the battle. The family finds peace that he is no longer fighting his demons and has found peace, and i know my brother listens to this song often
