The first time he ever performed this song was at that grand ole opry. Afterwards Ricky Skaggs told him how great it was. Craig Morgan said “Well, im glad you like it because it is the last time I am ever doing that song”. Ricky Skaggs told him he has to continue to do the song and share it with others.

Craig wrote the song in the early hours of the morning and set it aside, a few days later he sent it to Blake Shelton (a good friend) to see if the thought it was any good. He wasn't sure if he should record it or if he should just keep it for himself. Blake read it, got back to him and told him it absolutely needed to be recorded as it would not only help Craig heal but many others who faced losing a loved one. Another interesting note, at Jerry's funeral, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani (his fiance) came and walked through the front doors of the church like any other regular people, they asked for no special treatment, expected nothing out of the ordinary and were there solely to support Craig, his wife and his other kids during this tragic moment. One of the hardest things for Craig was that his son was off with friends for the weekend when he died, he was not with his parents and it did take divers a couple days to find his body in the river he drowned in. Craig Morgan is a Veteran, a father, husband and a country singer of very uplifting songs and this was a tragic moment for him and his whole family.

I’m so sorry about the lost of your son,I have lost two of my three sons, the first one passed away from a breathing problem he was born with,no one expected him to live as long as he did but Johnny had a pretty good life,he was 49 when he passed away.My middle son Keith passed from a drug overdose, herion,he had been hooked on drugs practically all his life, stemming from a episode that had happened earlier in his childhood. We were raised as independent Baptist in a Baptist Church not too far from our home.Keith had rode around with his Sunday School teacher,he seemed distraught and distracted at times but we really couldn’t put our finger on it to figure what was going on in his life at this time. Not for many years later after his death did his former girlfriend came forward and told us a little something about what he had hid all these years,I guess in his case it was just too painful to talk about, but I thank God she came forward and shared this with me,you never know how heavy your burden is until it starts wearing you down. Please if it’s anything you need to say to your family about any help you need please do so if anything to help with pressure you are going thru..

I've been hospitized 3 times and had a stroke. My husband stood by me and carried me back to life while all the time grieving himself. I'll never understand why Chris was brought into my life, he deserves so much more than me. This song is sung from his true personal life about losing his son to a drowning accident on the lake with some friends. He went into a deep depression. It was as hard as he could bare. He was lost. Then one night in a dream this song came to him. So he sat down and wrote it for his son and to help him try to heal a little bit inside. He sang this song on stage ad could barely get through it without breaking down and said he couldn't sing it again. But thank God Blake heard the song and called him and talked to him about how this song he wrote could help others who heard and could relate to it. When I heard this song I broke down and cried and cried. I Lost my twin brother Paul in a semi accident on the interstate. The truck driver didn't have time to swerve when he saw my brother walking down the middle of the interstate. It happened to quick for him to react. So my brother was killed that day and the pain of hearing that is more than I could bare and feeling that half of Me was gone. It's a continuous struggle for me everyday. We were very close and done everything together and it's hard to know he's no longer here and I never got to say goodbye and that I Loved him. So I could relate to Craig song and the pain that he was feeling for his son was similiar to what i was going through with losing my brother. So this song helps me heal a little bit inside but he's right it won't feel the same until we're both together again in heaven one day. I love this song and would recommend it to others who are hurting with the pain of losing someone you love.. God Bless you Craig Morgan for an amazing song...Paula Holbrook

I got to see him sing this song for the first time on Opry on The Circle TV Network. I was in tears because I knew about his son's accident. As to be expected, you could clearly see he got choked up but he finished the song. In my opinion I don't think Craig gets the recognition he is so deserving of. But there are some artists that aren't about all the fame as others are today in the industry. I appreciate your comments💕 and honesty. And, yes how unimaginable losing a child. 😪 My younger sissy lost her oldest daughter, (she has two daughters and two sons) she just turned 31, June 7, 2020 and she passed on September 19, 2020 just 2 days after her Mom's birthday. She left behind 4 young children 8-2, her husband of 8 years, he's a disabled Veteran of the United States Army. It did unfortunately involve drugs. Immediately folks are quick to assume she wasn't worth anything. If you've ever had a loved one struggling with an addiction, you feel completely helpless. You try to help any way possible. It's difficult to see folks who aren't blood go through it. I don't believe that is how they want to live but society has become more evil than ever...I don't understand how a human being can knowingly give someone who is totally unaware of what they are about to receive. It is a death sentence plain and simple. And it isn't just the person who is no longer here. It leaves a trail of destruction. The Medical Examiner's report said that my niece died of a Fentanyl overdose. The amount was small but the amount she was given would have killed 500, yes 500 people. Dr. Phil had a recent episode on this very subject with four families who each lost a child. The statistics are unbelievable, it's deadlier than Morphine. These folks are making it look legit but it's not what is prescribed by a physician. They think they're getting a Percocet, etc. but these are made to look like the real deal to a person not familiar not noticing the difference in the synthetic vs a Brand name drug. Whether an adult or younger, a 15 yo it isn't an overdose, it is 1st degree murder. PERIOD. It is premeditated and they are profiting off of innocent people. I would like to say that I'm not taking away from Craig Morgan's son's passing. It was truly a devastating tragedy. I'm sure given the account, it was a freak accident but nevertheless it still doesn't take away the fact his son is gone.
I am a believer in Christ Jesus and he allows bad things to happen. We say "What kind of loving God would allow bad things to happen?". We will never begin to understand or to know why. I myself know that He has a Plan for each and everyone of us. I would not want to know His Plan, for my life...I will continue to trust in Him. I pray for the people everywhere that have been through a loss or some tragedy, completely turning away from God, if they had ever even had a relationship with Him.
I remember my sissy before the funeral in the bedroom just arranging her things in her suitcase. A distraction. I came in to check on her to see what she was doing. She said "I'm not sure, Sis!" As she laid her head in the suitcase screaming, "WHY?" "I DO NOT UNDERSTAND!" "HOW HE CAN BE A GOOD GOD IF HE LET HER DIE?" "I JUST WANT HER TO CALL ME REGARDLESS IF SHE NEEDS SOMETHING, TO HEAR HER VOICE AGAIN" I just held her telling her to yell at Him, He can take all your pain! In my mind I was happy that she was talking to Him regardless if she was screaming, blaming Him, which is one initial way to cope. SHE WAS! She had strayed from our Catholic faith as a lot of folks do and do not give any thoughts of their salvation. Being a good person doesn't get you a "Get out of Jail Free" card and think, "I'm going to heaven". No, no! He is a merciful and loving God. But He also judges each accordingly. We fail to see He has blocked more things than we know everyday. We don't stop to say, "Thank you, Lord" We're all here to live Christ-like lives and He knows we are not perfect human beings, that thing we have, "Free Will" and get caught up in this world and not eternal life with our Lord and Savior who wants us all to be with Him. It's the reason He sent His only son in human form to be as us, only He was perfect and He had powerful abilities to heal people, raise the dead, and more. He took on the world's sins and wrongfully crucified...out of hatred and of jealousy. We are to take up our crosses each day no matter how difficult, He will be right there to help us. I can remember things I went through and thought about it afterwards wondering how in the heck did I get through? It wasn't a perfect outcome but I still made it because Divine Intervention
I pray that you all will make your way back to Him, you still have an opportunity to. And to those who already have a relationship with Jesus, discern...check yourselves. Are you doing what you should? Even a lukewarmness is still a relationship that needs to be rearranged. I say this as I myself have struggled in my prayer life but I hear Him in my silence and get myself stronger in Faith even with my cross that I carry and accept all of my illnesses, and give Him the glory. He saved ME! I can choose to be thankful to be alive and to do His will. Whatever or wherever it may lead me. At times it was at the foot of the cross asking Him to help me through my anxiety, depression, because of the autoimmune diseases, and difficulty breathing due to my Emphysema when I was not a smoker. I've learned to accept these as gifts, He will never leave my side. Can He heal my body of everything? Of course, but it may not be His plan, it isn't a "No" maybe "Wait" or "Not at all." I will continue to be faithful. I may backslide, but I will get back up.
Continue to stay safe during this ongoing Covid19 🙏❤
    God Bless You All!
❤ From this Detroit- Tennessee and Kentucky transplant chick 😉

Van this is one of several truly amazing songs written by Craig. His son drowned at 19. He wrote this because that is how songwriters cope with life. He performed it on the Grand ole Opry and everyone told him it was great. He said he would never do it again. Some of his friends including Blake Shelton told him he needed to record it and keep doing it. It would help people heal from their own losses. He still performs it and struggles to get through it every time. Craig is quite a guy. He served (I believe) 8 years as a combat medic. After getting out and coming home he had a few different jobs before deciding his part time hobby (music) was what he wanted to do full time. He has done very well. He and one of his kids were driving home one day and passed a house fire. The FD hadn't gotten there yet, so he asked if anyone needed help. He was told there were still a couple people (I think kids) in the home. He carried 2 of them out as the FD was pulling up and then pulled a line and helped put out the fire. Van do yourself a favor. Listen to a couple more of his songs. I like "That's what I like about Sunday" and a great song called "This ain't nothing". Check them out. Look for the music video versions of both, then try a live performance of any one of them. You won't be disappointed man.

The one thing that country music does is it tells you a story or a message that is usually relatable to some part of your own life and that's what Craig Morgan just did he played it for his friend Blake Shelton and Blake told him that he had to record it but Craig couldn't get through it he was so emotional but finally did with a lot of tears and even now when he performs it he still gets emotional still

We forged an unbreakable bond through that pain and have endless love for each other. Since then we’ve been blessed with two amazing daughters and another baby boy. Nothing can replace him but God has blessed us so much. If you’re going through this now and ever need someone to talk to message me.

Craig Morgan's son died in a tubing (boating) accident when he was 19 years old. Craig sang the song at the Grand Ole Opry, saying it would be the last time he did so. Ricky Scaggs convinced him that he had to continue singing it again and again, 'cause some people needed to hear it so they didn't feel alone in their loss.

I have lost a lil sister to murder, a lil brother to a car accident, my dad and mom in 8 months of each other.... I have buried almost every person I am blood kin to. I have one sister left who lives far away that I probably will bury too cuz she is not in the best of health. I have broken because I had to put down my beautiful dogs to stop their pain within the same year... that hurt so badly I still cry for them. But if I ever had to bury my child, they might as well put me in the casket with her. I couldn't bare that pain. I can't fathom the pain. I watched the light go out of my parents eyes when my siblings died. I watched my best friend just exist after losing her only child. When you lose a child, you lose your heart, your sanity, your will to go on. I admire anyone who goes forward. My daughter and I are best friends. I was a single mom far away from any family, completely on my own. We are Gilmore girls type mom and daughter. Losing her would kill me. Thank you for the reaction. From your words and expressions, I know you know exactly what I am saying. No parent should ever have to bury their child.

Craig said he woke up one morning early with this song in his head. He said he went downstairs and wrote this in 30 minutes. He said after he debuted the song on the Grand Ole Opry that he was never going to sing it again. His friend Blake Shelton reached out to country radio and asked them to play the song. Craig said dependent on the day, he may or may not sing this at his concerts. Jerry’s loss affected the entire family. Craig is a decorated retired Army Ranger and Marine serving 19 years. He’s an incredible singer songwriter. One of the best humans.

My oldest boy was killed in an industrial accident at his workplace back in 2003. It's so difficult to accept that a son that you've known all his life, and thought you'd ALWAYS see until he was at your bedside as you were dying .... is GONE. You'll NEVER see him again -- at least not in this world. It takes a lot of grieving to finally get to the place of acceptance. This song reminded me of all the days, weeks, months and years that I grieved, sometimes screaming at God to give me my son back. Bless all of you and remember to hold your children tight. Never forget to tell them you love them.
