I have both Deus II and Manticore and I could never part with the Deus II. Both have their places when detecting...I started with the Legend and Im already comparing it with the Vortec...I certainly hope Im wrong about my first thoughts on this new machine and I eagerly await to see Calabash and others reviewing and testing it in real situations.
As far as fishing reels go I have a 20 year old Shimano B mag on a berkley bionix rod I can cast 80th ounce jigs2 of them like nobodys buisness accurately. For a bait caster to do this is unheard of.. So what you said is the truth.
I think the D2 menu is easier to navigate than the legends. I was very skeptical about the performance etc of the D2 and it has proved me wrong time and time again. Been using it for over a year now.
A couple of things here. First, unless running a slow, controlled grid sweep, most detectorists will have sections of ground missed on each swing of the coil. Second, the ground was as hard as concrete in Italy yesterday. No one was digging any depth, in fact, most people were not digging at all. They were going for surface finds. It is just all marketing smoke and mirrors at the moment. I am not saying the Vortex doesn't perform well but until we get it in our hands and do some proper unbiased testing we just don't know.
My personal opinion, means nothing, the vortex is a move to retain whatever user base they have not yet lost and maybe even fool some just getting into the hobby.
Being that it hasn't been out long enough to make that from Garrett, I feel that they are trying to promote a product in flooded market of proven machines. Seems they have left out some key features of better units, Garrett is just trying to compete with that claim.
Hi, Garrett is also sending the Vortex to independent testers before it goes on sale. We will see a lot of videos before sales start. Here in Germany I already know 4 testers who will be showing their videos soon. They left out a lot of things in the presentation. We don't yet know all the adjustment options. They also didn't mention that the armrest is flexible. I'll wait and see. I'll buy it anyway. Best wishes from Altena NRW Germany 🙋
The guy in the Lockdown Competition video with the blue coat that is giving his prototype Vortex some positive performance ability has his arm cuff on backwards.
Garrett’s comments are true , at a group hunt , someone might be using a Vortex while others are using ML , XP, Nokta . That’s all they have to say. They don’t have to publish the results, nor will they ever do any comparative testing.
I have a hard time believing that!.......I haven't seen any ground breaking Garrett machines yet. They have bland features! Minelab, XP and, Nokta currently own that dept.....I mean no disrespect to Garrett......We'll see how the Vortex does as we learn more. I wish Garrett the best of luck👍
Well, this is a short story of my experience with the Tesoro, Whites, Garrett, Nokta and XP detectors. I have been detecting for about 32 years. First detector I bought that wasn’t just a toy was a Tesoro. Was really blown away with fast recovery speed and light weight, build quality and lifetime warranty. That machine got me hooked on the hobby. Next was the Whites Spectrum XLT. First machine that I know of that had adjustable recovery speed, called reactivity in the XP, modulation, called audio response on the XP Deus and so on. It had all the bells and whistles. A lot of the advanced settings you see on these top detectors today were pioneered by the Whites Spectrum series. It paid for itself many times over the years. Then I bought my first all terrain machine the ATPro. The advent of the double d coil was a big advance. I accidentally ran over the shaft of this detector early on and just sawed off the bent part and kept hunting with it for 8 years heavily in the lake before it finally flooded. Could float in the water beside me without having to put pieces of pool noodle to keep it afloat. Bought a Nokta Multikruzer. Even though it had the raw power, appeared ruggedly built, could only run it in three tone and be stable at high sensitivity and it flooded on me the first water hunt, had it fixed but the vibrate function would no longer work, but I knew that company was on the march and would soon take the lead. Then I bought the XP Deus 2 for a huge amount of money. It had an easier interface than the Nokta, was my first true multi frequency machine. Is great in beach but is delicate and have to fool with the antenna to water hunt. So the American companies built the foundation of the modern metal detector no doubt but have lost some ground to foreign competitors. I was curious as to why the Vortex only goes to 25khz but then figured they have higher frequency gold machines. 25khz is probably more than enough to nab 98% of beach jewelry.
As a Canadian who hunts clad, I will say 25khz is NOT enough. 40khz and up is killer on our iron clad and I suspect on many other nations cheaper coins these days as well. Chains, small gold etc. are part of the equation but not the only part. It's my go to park hunting frequency honestly, even above multi.
@@MrBottlecapBillI have the Garrett Apex and it only has 20 kHz. With it I can get the small air rifle pellets up to 20 cm out of the ground. So I think 25 kHz is more than enough for the Vortex. The sensitivity to small parts is simply great with the Apex. And it will definitely be the same with the Vortex.
It's one thing to be proud of your product, it's another thing to be blowing so much smoke that you are in a fog. Garrett either has a truly great detector or someone has slipped something in the water supply for their HQ. The elephant in the room here are still there when it comes to the Vortex line- 1)no tone options and what is there sounds like a dying duck. 2)At least in my mind, a very questionable pay to play mentality that might be contagious to the point of causing extreme greed from the entire industry. If they are claiming it is better than these other well known performers.. I wonder how long they will delay the release and shipping of them because their mouth has overloaded their azz on this? I don't know about this. A lot of big talk from Garrett and only a select few were given machines to test. We still don't have any proof of performance. Well, they best really have a good unit or else there is no coming back from all their BS marketing talk and false claims this time. To make it better, I will eat my own words about the Vortex and buy the VX9 if others known to test units fairly say its great(Calabash, Iffy Signals, etc.)
The XTerra Pro I have sure isn't great. It's the only detector I still have that would be sold if I thought anybody would buy the damn thing. There would have to be a huge difference between the pro and the elite then. But I'm not going to give Moneylab any more $$$ to find out. The XTerra Pro wasn't even close to my Equinox 800 in performance or stability and it sure didn't outdo my Legend or even the Double Score. XTerra Pro is a dig it all machine, the ID is garbage.
@@RobNC-OG the Elite is multiple Fqz...as the pro is only single..... The Elite is worth the money.....worth note is the processor is the newest batch...not from the 900/700 equinox either. No....but does it have any advantages over the D2 Oh yeah......on the beach with all the cellphones, Bluetooth speakers, Wifi boosters from the hotels, the Elite is very quiet on the beach scary quiet....no EMI the only other machine similar to that is the Manticore.
They say it will go up against high end detectors,,, Give it a shot against the ORX Lol It will have the advantage over it since the ORX is single frequency of choice..... no tones I bet it would be a good test. Vortex multi frequency against Single frequency ORX Shoot out. Let's see it........ Along with saying this don't think this test will be easy for the Vortex It won't I personally will vouch for it. I have a legend also I will say this the ORX finds good targets the legend leaves behind and not vice versa... There are other channels that have had same results live digs. To the point of disbelief and they own both machines too....
Garrett is relying on Brand Loyalty and the occasional user. Most that have been in the hobby for a long time (serious detectorist) 48 years for me , don’t buy into there claims.
Hi Calabash, I'm just getting into metal detecting at 70 years young. Trying to understand how a detector works. I've read crystals vibrate with certain frequency depending on the type. Is this basically what the detector is trying to analyze and give feedback to the user, by detecting the frequency a piece of gold, silver or iron resonates at and "seeing" that in the ground? Maybe I overthink this but just trying to figure out what is going on so my adjustments are set to what I hope to find buried. I have a triple score on pre-order, kind of anxious to get it
I am more into how to setup the detectors to get the most out of them in different detecting conditions. Frequency etc...Lower frequency silver, higher gold in general but there are some nuances other than gold for higher frequencies. Relics in iron are where high frequencies shine also..
Ok Hear me out. Is it possible that you make a multifrequency machine that has far less settings and options and so you have less filters to mess with that it is then able to penetrate deeper and separate much better then the other manufactures with all their settings? I can't wait for an unbiased side by side comparison test between the vortex and manticore or legend. Heck I would love to see it go up against a low end minelab pro or nokta score.
Nothing personal, but you have it backwards. Preset settings ARE filters that "play it safe" by filtering too much. That typically means less performance. With the ability to adjust the settings and filters, performance is increased for the particular hunter's needs.
Garrett might of just as well painted the vortex red, white, and blue, and market it as for the real American patriot who only believes in American made products, and it probably works as well as the manticore. I ordered the vortex and I need it now!!!
Bought my nephew the Q35 but it's too erratic. More powerful but stability has suffered making it difficult to pick out good targets. Air tests are impressive but find real detecting very difficult in sine terrains even after adjustments. The X20 was more stable at least. Unless we were unlucky and bought a faulty unit. Hmmm...
Did anybody say anything about performance? I dont need to use to know what features it has or doesn't. Garrett has a list on their site and the dealer websites have the quick start guide.
It was only recently introduced and it will take at least until next month before it comes onto the market or can be properly tested. Since many people think their detector is the best, they are probably now afraid that the Vortex can do something that their detector can't. Garrett detectors have always been powerful and reliable. The only thing missing were the gimmicks like sound profiles and things like that. With the search depth, small part sensitivity and above all stable conductivity and smooth running, an Apex can easily keep up with the expensive detectors. So we'll have to wait and see. I'm looking forward to the first tests.
Let me be the first to say BULLSHIT
Good to see you back on here Calabash!
Thanks!
IMAGINE... metal detector so fkd up, Calabash comes out of retirement to call bullshit.
I also noticed the long tones along with extremely slow sweep across coins that were separated by a good bit. Sounded like a very slow response
We need a demo with 6 or 7 coins with a recovery so we heart what the audio sounds like then..
Yes I agree Calabash no recovery on tones/signals
I have both Deus II and Manticore and I could never part with the Deus II.
