He made characters that were actual heroes, that as kids we all looked up to that would fight to protect the people they cared about and never give up and would put in the hard work. And it wasn’t for fame or to get riches. It was because it was the right thing to do. To always try to do better and push past your limits and keep working and training and never give up even when it’s tough or you feel weak. He was an amazing story teller and artist and we will all miss Akira Toriyama and the stories he left with us.
I think the best part of his “heroes,” is that they actually had flaws and weren’t perfect. Goku had this “poison” in him, as described by Akira Toriyama himself in an interview, where he said that Goku only primarily fought to test his limits and for his own enjoyment, even if it meant risking a lot, because he had this selfishness to himself, unlike a perfectly clear, pristine hero.
I know how you feel, man. I can’t even watch the ending songs of any of the dragon ball series without shedding a tear. I don’t know who Toriyama is and it messed me up that much.
